MUCKERS City Cool Down or Race 6 of 6 13/04/23

Rouvy Route Used: Paris – The City of Love | 7.24 miles | 111.55 ft climbing

Route 2 of the Cities all around the world challenge.

20 registered | 8 finishers | 12 dns

The last round in first ever points based championship for a challenge and its been interesting. I’ve learned a few things to do differently but I will now start doing this as an extra incentive for the next few challenges I’ve scheduled. These are the Brazilian and South African challenges that are scheduled to start over the next few weeks.

So, to this little race. 8 riders finished it, some coming from the first race of the night and some just to have a go at this! “EdAlves” won today making it 5 wins from the 6 events but didn’t have it all his own way like most weeks, with nice pressure from the chasing pack which was lead over like by the strong American, and prolific Rouvy/Facebook poster, “basak_oztan” who is another rider who unfortunately doesn’t race that often with us but if you ever want a really strong Virtual Partner to chase down on a solo Rouvy ride, then add his Avatar, as I reckon he’s done pretty much every route and has always set a decent time!

robbiedoo“, whos done all 6 races, claimed the bronze with Top Muckers Worldwide rider “S.Ludford” poping over the line in 4th. Top 4 coming in just 10 seconds between them all.

Just under a minute later came the next group of three which all worked together quite nicely till the last uphill sprint. “lorenzino” went first to claim the 5th spot, then “Mucker1974” for 6th after just getting past “wurstrolle_81” a few hundred feet before the line as the German let off to spin the legs out.

8th came “cdtchris” making it 3 Muckers Worldwide riders in this race and he just made it with seconds to spare from the first race. excellent effort Chris.

OVERALL TOP 10!

well done to “EdAlves” on a very dominant performance over the 6 races, only coming 2nd in the first race to a rider who never came back for the next 5! “robbiedoo” a very well deserved 2nd and was strong in every race! “Mucker1974” gets 3rd who was the only other rider to complete all 6 races and actually used the first 5 as a cool down! and 4th to “S.Ludford” who missed just the one race and tops the rest of the field that didn’t complete all 6 races.

well done to everyone, thanks for having a go and hopefully see you on the next one??

cheers.

i went into this a little worried that we’d have a massive field of riders and my third place would then be in jeopardy if i used it as a cool down like i had done in the first 5! As we set off, we only had 8 racers so I knew as long as Ste didn’t win and I came last, I should be safe. I still set off like mad though and was with the top bunch for around the first half of a mile but once we’d gone under the tower, they just dropped me into the no draft zone so I backed off for lorenzino and wurst and then jumped on with them. it was all I could do to stay with them and when they both upped it on the final straight, I just resided to 7th place but kept a little pressure on just to see. then wursts power dropped a lot and I saw I had an opportunity for 2 more points so I put the hammer down and swept past him to take 6th at the line. I really enjoyed this as a championship and can’t wait for the next one to start. I wont be doing those as a cool down!

I wouldn’t say I love this type of short flat route because they are agony, however, they suit an old ’10 mile’ club Time Trial rider like myself. Once again, my intention was to ride in the inevitable chasing group behind the phenomenal ‘EdAlves’ who powers ahead and it would be foolish, if not impossible, to attempt to bridge to him solo. A three man group forms with ‘basak.oztan’, ‘robbiedoo’ plus myself and we very nearly had the power between us to join the leader. ‘Mucker 1974’ started strong then dangled agonisingly close after the early stages but was missing the mega drafting benefits of the other three ahead. As before, as the race progressed, I sense the speed dropping during my short turns on the front so I know the other boys are just having a breather (rest) and we approach the finish line still with ‘EdAlves’ in view. Everyone is experienced enough to wait for the sprint on this slightly uphill finish, I think ‘Roobiedoo’ went first but was pipped by ‘basak.oztan’ for 2nd place. Big respect to both these riders, especially ‘Roobiedoo’ who had finished very highly in the 22mile race that ended only 15mins before this started, super strong riders on any profile route.

Finally had my first Muckers race. It’s just the timing that doesn’t work due to my school pick up duty. But this time your first race was a long one, so start time of this secons race was good. It was also a short route, a pseudo threshold test opportunity.

Kudos to Ed Alves who lead the entire race. Steve, Rob, and I worked well but Ed was just stronger. Couldn’t close the gap. In the end it came down to final sprint, Rob and Steve were tired from the race before, with little bit fresher legs I was able to move tiny bit ahead. I posted a video of the final minutes on your Fb post.

Hoping to do more of your races in the future. This was fun.
