Nice stand alone race tonight! No championships, double events, sprint races or hill climbs! Am I nice or what!!
Sprint at 150% for the mad start, hold tempo while you work out who’s around you, roll through the front of your group at your FTP then rest at half power in the middle of the pack. Sprint again to bridge to the breakaway then do 20 minutes hard effort to maintain your group’s advantage. Approaching the line, save as much energy as you can while you try to make your opponents work harder … then BANG … everything you have got .. 300% for 10 seconds, your opponent responds, 250%, have you got anything left … the finish line is just in reach………….
Come racing people, it’s the most fun you will ever have working out … or you could just work out … remember, we started riding bicycles because it was fun, always have fun.
I’m waffling, so what happened in tonight’s race.
A welcome return to Muckers racing to Frenchman “Procat” taking 1st place by 2 seconds from “JoseCostaRonda” who must have been tying his shoe laces (or checking his tyre pressure) on the start line as he had to make his way back through the peloton. Tuesday’s victor “Tuden” had to settle for 3rd position tonight in a final 3 up sprint with “nelsonsnyder” and “karel_sousek”, 4th and 5th.
6th place goes to the 2nd of 3 French riders in the Top 10, “stephane-martin” who looks to have gone solo to the line. “wards” was faster by 0.1 seconds than “Minyana” to take 7th. Our new Muckers Worldwide rider, “Loki1972”, scored again tonight in 9th spot, it later transpired he was motivated by his “open” Whisky Cabinet, “No water, just ice please Mucker”. Finally, “lrollin” continues a recent run of good results with another mention for a Top 10 spot.
A good night’s racing, thank you to all who took part.
Cheers

I had a blast tonight. Told everyone I was going to take it easy, I meant it at the time, then the race started. I recognised the riders around me at the start and felt it was a good group, then I feel I was instrumental in helping drag us up to the next group and then dragging this new group to the next group … I reckon we had 12 riders at one point so I started to mingle in the pack as the orange/red bits on the profile approached us. It was already clear this group was racing for 11th place, knowing the hills would be my Achilles’s Heel I wondered (without communication) how Andy_UP was feeling. Andy helped me up one rise as gaps appeared then over the top I hammered down and rejoined the others hoping Andy would see my 0.0w/kg message in time … but no … his engine self combusted all over the carriageway at the same time as mine and we just looked at each other and shrugged ready for the ride home. I had all but given up as I saw “M_Kali” making up a lot of ground, “Here we go again” I thought, another race incoming … it was actually a lot of fun as we took chunks of power out of each other, I let Kali lead us to the line, I had to, then suprised even myself with a long standing effort to take it at the line. Enjoyed tonight.
After a week off the bike due to holiday/vacation and returning at 3 am on the morning of the race, I wondered, “Will I be too tired? Will I still be able to compete?” These were the questions I asked myself. I hopped on just 2 minutes before the race. With 50+ people registered, 28th position at the start wasn’t a bad place to be. This 19-mile race with 950 ft of climbing wasn’t really my forte, but I noticed most of the climbing was in the last half of the race, giving me a chance to gain positions. I passed a few riders in the first half and made it down to 22nd position. With 10 miles left and 800 ft to go, I gradually caught and overtook riders one by one. I passed fellow Muckers DolphWader, Andy_UP, and S.Ludford. My legs felt a little tired, but I kept pushing and passed a few more racers, eventually riding solo for the last half mile. I finished 13th and felt quite happy with that performance. Looking forward to the championship race on Tuesday. Thanks, Muckers, for another tough race.
What a race 🙂
Was in the top10 group from the start but ended in a group that’s not working very good and halfway the dinne decided it was time to return the same way it went in :-p
Needed a 5 min rest but lost my position. But manage to fight my way back from 27th to 21th position – just under 2 km from the finish line
Need to find a better working group next time 😉
Wasn’t going to race… Did the same route before the race, followed Tuden up a hill @ 7w/kg. That hurts. Then the race starts, but I wasn’t going to race. Kept in the draft of a growing group, because it was slightly downhill, this was a zone 4 hr effort so, not racing. Then the hills came, and I’m in a group of about 12 riders, racing for 11 or 12th position, and I was almost halfway race! So I started to race. A few hills later, just as the steepest hill started, my legs reminded me of the km’s I did before the race, and the very hard tuseday races, and the very hard sunday training. I felt suddenly really tired, couldn’t put out any power. Didn’t see it comming, but had to ride slowly to the finish, at around 1.8w/kg, that took longer then I wanted.
The endless series of flat routes continues🤗 But after Tuesday’s success for me with two sprint victories over Hinsbergen himself, I went into this race with a good amount of confidence. But when I saw the start list I was already tired. with Juan, Procat and that Italian guy who has been disqualified before for not posting data, but who smashes all opposition. I could see that just a top 3 would be legitimately difficult. This also turned out to be true. From the first second, a really strong group set off on the long descending first part of the route. Strong riders like Nelson, Karel, Procat etc came along. To my great surprise, Juan was not there. But after about 3-4 km he suddenly appeared on the screen in the top 10. It later turned out that he had started 45 seconds late. However, it was not long before he joined the front group. Could see that he was at around 6-7 w/kg all the way up to us. Next, there was a reasonable gathering of the group until we started to hit the small climbs that came at regular intervals. Thus, the separation had begun. I tried to make a difference on the small climbs but everyone quickly came back when it went downhill again. And then the inevitable happened, of course, that Juan and Procat started to move on. It was insane surges with +8w/kg over long periods and people dropped like flies. I tried to keep up, but quickly had to realize that it was utopia to think I could keep up with that pace. So I had to give up and let them sail away. I was now in no man’s land with two riders in front of me by about 200m and two chasing riders behind me by about 150m. It was out of the question that I could pick up the front ones myself, and I judged that even if I let myself fall back to Karel and Nelson who were behind me, we couldn’t pick up the front ones anyway, so I decided to try to finish it on own hand, and drive home at my own pace. I managed to keep the two behind me all the way to the finish line, where I was able to grab 3rd place, which was the maximum I could expect in advance.
It’s great to get comments from the top of the results list. We see the close times but never quite know how it went. Nice to know it’s hard work and painful at the front too, only we are in pain for 5, 10 minutes longer.
super race tonight had the misfortune of being late to the start or should I say trouble with loading rouvy up. so had to chase all the way, pleased how it went. thanks for putting on the race
