MUCKERS 2025 JULY CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 4.
ROUTE AND RACE DETAILS:
Caen | France | 20.44 miles | 676 ft. climbing.
Now this looks like a nice race route! nothing too hilly, with the longest and hardest looking climbing being done right from the start then its those “nice” kickers for the rest! But, it’s 20 miles long so no 30 min sprint, you need to not blow up too soon!!
Also the last round of the Month so all to play for! ok, its 9:41pm, all the races should be finished so lets see what we have shall we;
Honestly can’t believe we had 132 different riders do this weeks race! And on a route from a challenge thats been out a while now so i suspect a few of you are repeating this route as well. Just blown away but now its time to implement our 3 rules so we can see who’s left: 106! All bar 1 was down to no HR data. remember, you need supply this to be involved. Its £20-£30 for a strap from amazon and a great training tool plus, if we need to look into your performances, this data is imperative for us to to judge fairly.

TO FINISH OFF:
Wow!! Well done TisjV!!! We said last week that we thought the gap was too big from 3rd to a win, but you did all you could with a win in this round and luckily is was just enough points to win this month! your reward?? 50 points into your world championship total and a nice 2.5% ballast going forward! Well done to Hans and Karel for another solid month and getting on the podium.
Top 10 was nice and close and we also welcome 2 newbies to the “ballast club”! antyradziu and MatthiasHeil! Well done guys and i hope you carry the ballast with pride!! 😉
We are still on a learning year with the categories, but like we said in the last weeks, we are pretty much nailed onto what we will do with them next year and it will be some kind of bonus points for the top 5 in each category at the end of the month. We want it to be worth going for, but not too much. however, We will only be awarding it to the riders who do all 4 races in the month. This will then guarantee that the riders receiving the bonus points will have been there for the first race of that month which is where we will still carry on doing the category er-learn based on the first race of the month. We feel a shortish hill climb works best to calculate the categories but we are limited by what challenge routes are available at that specific time of the year, but the first week in August 2025 we are using a long route to to get the data so we can compare what it looks like from this type of route as well. Like we said, this is a learning year so lets learn.
So no championship race next week as its a 5 Thursday month. But we have a very special event as we do another batch of short races one after another in our “one night of HIIT: extreme edition” event. The last one was a great success as we raced along 12 different routes from 12 different countries, but this time its 11 races, from 11 totally different countries (yes, even different from the last one) We’ve called it Extreme due to the routes being a lot harder than last time! We have also set this up at 3 other start times, over the day and all separated by 6 hours to try and give everyone around the world the chance to join in. All the race times will be blended into one big leaderboard on NITEOR when its all finished. You can even do all 4 versions if you wish, or 2 or 3, as we have set it up that it records your best time on any route at any of the start times.

Here’s the link to the event on NITEOR so you can see the different start times and if you find one that’s for you, please register for all 11 from that time zone so they will then appear in your “joined events” and will be easy to find once you get into the event!

oh, while i remember, please download the 11 routes well in advance as well. just incase of any glitches or time constraints between races. last thing you want to be doing is waiting for the route to download while the races is just starting!
Blogs for the world championship and category top 5 will be updates and released this weekend. Thank you all for the continued support (go buy a T-shirt or something i beg you 😏) and as per usual, thanks to those of you for reading to the very end.

Didn’t think i’d be racing my heart out to try and get a top 50 finish so soon!! The horrible glitchy start didn’t help, and i was doing the first climb in about 70th place, but still kept it controlled at around 3.2 just so i knew i’d be good to go at the green stuff! Got into a nice group but we just weren’t catching up those in front as fast as i wanted so at one stage, on a slight climb, i went to bridge over and somehow did it. Now we are motoring along, catching riders and as we approached the closing stages, i was quietly confident i had it in the tank to win the stage sprint, and just as i decided it was go time, my good old friend the glitch came back and it just stuttered and farted for a few seconds then “finished” came up! eh?? Bollocks! 😂😂🤦♂️. Ah well, never mind, it is what it is and still had a great race and felt pretty strong which was nice. Well done everyone and thank you so much for so many riders showing up on a Thursday in July! That was awesome!
So, after doing both races on Tuesday, I figured I had burned (BigBadBern) all of my matches…but it was an uphill start, and by golly there is was with a nice group of powerful youngsters..focus, focus…I got gapped off somewhere for reasons not clear, but then I became a carrot for a lively group that ran me down just at the end. good job all. great fun. I was so exhausted that I had to have a nap before my proper nap. thank goodness there are not 5 of these events this month. cheers
cheers Paul, can’t beat a pre nap nap can you! But your wise enough to know how to listen to your body so i won’t teach you how to suck eggs (as we say here) but we are just happy to have you along! race pace whatever you decide is right for you on the night!
Excellent race for me today with timely cooperation and great competition. Sooooo much fun! Entered the race with just one goal: Beat Sharky for this month’s A7 cat win (sorry Sharky!). Everything fell into place – 87% drafting factor at 3.5 w/kg for the opening 8.5 minute “climb.” Nice group to ride with from there for as long as I could hold on. Periodically dropped to the back of the group, so I could see who was trailing (i can only see 4 nearby riders on my phone). I can see Chak and Duckman2 sometimes only about 200m behind, but no real climbs, so hopefully they won’t catch up – and hopefully they’re not bringing Sharky with them. We pick up MatthiasHeil along the way and I’m feeling pretty good heading into last tiny incline when out of nowhere I get dropped (maybe MatthiasHeil or one of the others I was with attacked?). Now when I look behind me I can see that Sharky is indeed with Chak and Duckman2 and possibly some others. RUH-ROH! Quick decision to wait vs trying to catch those in front of me (they’ll just outsprint me anyway I’m thinking). I get a little over 6 minutes of “rest” before the train behind me catches and I latch on! I don’t usually sprint hard at end of these races, but the competitive spirit takes over – this one is for July A7 bragging rights – lol. Chak goes from a long way out, but we chase him down – thankfully (for me) it’s a downhill finish, had it been uphill he’d have been long gone. I figure Sharky will sit on my wheel at this point and pass me at the end, but he doesn’t – he winds it up early and I’m able to get some draft on the downhill with enough distance to pass before the line – a finish tailor made for my non-sprinting self. Whew! What does this prove: Only that I had the highest w/kg of all the riders that got classified as A7 this month (i.e. I can’t climb worth a damn, so got to ride A7 vs A6. Hopefully back with A6 next month and incredibly thankful to Mucker74 (Neil) and the whole group that organizes and participates in these events.
Hi Eric, this is exactly why i love this comment section and when people take the time to post these race perspectives! Its like i was almost there!! What you’re describing is exactly what I’d want to explain to those who post comments on socials about how they don’t race, or hate races etc etc, i just don’t think they’ve had what you were going through above. You weren’t racing for the podium, but you were in a battle!! congratulations on the A7 cat win, Squallo is hard rider to beat over 4 races and my illness last week took me out of it which is probably why this weeks glitches didn’t have me throwing my iPad and Wattbike out of the spare room window as i was already too far away in the points 😂. Thanks again for the comments, we are really glad you are here and enjoying the races and long my it continue.
Great to see Mike Hagen riding today!
here here!
This last race it was very nice, on the paper this route should be in my characteristics and so it was.
I have a good start, but after few minutes just overtake me Uncle64 my first target… but I think don’t worry the race is long anything can happen.
I try to push always in front of the group to hold a good pace and for stimulate the other to do the same.
Fortunately I find Chak that work with me and after a few km also Duckman2, now I have to right Team to try to catch the other in front.
Near the end finally I find Eric but I imagined that he was in rest pause… i spend more energy to increase the pace, and my front group start from distant in a long sprint. I know that a long sprint don’t like me but I hoped to find some power draw for the final line… at the end Encle64 beat me for little mt on the line (many compliments of you), I lost the first place for 9 points but I’m very happy for this nice battle in July.
Now I can go to the see for my little holiday in Touscany…. I think all of you but a little less 😎🤟🏻.
Cheers to everyone, and see you for the August Champ 👋🦈
cheers Sharky! nice battle between you and UncleE64 all the way which sounds like it was very much on both your minds as you raced here! enjoy the holiday and see you next month where i reckon the long route will have us in the same cat!
Had to push surprisingly hard to stay with the front group of 11 on this VERY flat route. Doesn’t suit me at all, but good training in the heat indoors. Focused on staying close to Karel for the last 5 km – and succeeded so much that I almost forgot to sprint … and completely forgot everything about Tijs and his powersprint. But I guess it’s only fair that Tijs gets some ballast as well in the Muckers Championship 😅
Thanx for another hard and ‘fun’ race Muckers 👍🏻
Hi Hans, thanks for the comment. from the results it looks like it was a 7 or 8 way sprint battle for the win so if TijsV hadn’t have won that and been a second slower, he would not have won the championship! But he now finally has some ballast!! Glad its still as competitive up at the top as it is for all the categories in the race, even in these summer months, we really appreciate you jumping in and having “fun” with the muckers!
Lost Internet connection about six times in the first ten minutes, every rider stood still while I carried on, had to keep the power on and hope I would still be near my group when connected. Luckily, I kept with the group, unluckily, they were slightly too strong for me. Ended up in a group of three, including David1951, with another group of three following at 500ft behind. The following group were all Muckers so I was calculating if they could catch and if I could encourage the catch. My only influence was to sit on and drop the power if I hit the front. Mucker1974 and Sunniva managed to bridge across and we also picked up Stelviobound for a nice team group. To be honest, I was only just surviving in this group and I won’t race a Mucker on Thursdays, so I dropped off in the final couple of miles and left them to sprint it out. Really good to see the number of riders tonight and the depth of abilities so everyone gets a race to be involved with.
cheers for the comment mucker. well rode up front as well as if you’d have been on a full pull, i’d have not even considered the bridge over so thanks for that. But it still makes me smile how engrossed we all become in that moment in time as if we are really there and need to do this or that… it’s definitely not a Peloton spin bike session is it! 😂. I was also really amazed to see the number of riders on the main race, might have just been an anomaly due to the “racey” look of the profile so maybe we see a dip again on the first race of the August championship which is a 30 miler!
How does it feel race after 400 km ride the day before? Special. Mostly flat profile and big peloton. The key tactic was cover all surges in the front and not to get dropped. I managed to do that, but i could also feel i lack short power bursts. As the race progressed i could feel better and react quicker. Suprise attack by Tijs, i did one more push in front to get our group closer and then we finished by sprinting. Let’s see what other will say, but i see it as hard and honest race. Thank you all who joined us!
cheers Karel. always appreciate the thoughts from the sharp end so please keep up the comments and watchful eye on all around you, keeps people honest!
😃
