MUCKERS 2025 MARCH CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 4.

ROUTE AND RACE DETAILS:

Nieuwkerke to Ypry | Belgium | 24.58 miles | 1,919 ft of climbing.

Back to Flanders which you have to admit it, they do make some of the best race routes with short sharp cobble climbs, long gradual climbs and nice rollers with the odd Kicker in them. Great route this. Heres how ROUVY described it:

Gent-Wevelgem is a notable one-day cycling race in Belgium, forming part of the UCI World Tour. Renowned for its combination of flat terrain and demanding climbs, including the Kemmelberg, it draws in elite sprinters and classics specialists. Enjoy a segment from this course.

Only 110 riders set a time before any disqualifications. lets see how many we remove this week:

88 left after the no HR data riders removed. And one of them was Alieno who won the main race!!

everyone else played nicely! Well done!

TO FINISH OFF:

Well done to the top 10 in the GC. Your Ballast will be added to your name and you now run with that deduction for the rest of the year.

We have 5 riders this month getting Ballast for the first time. Lets see how they do next month…..

Well done to the Top 5 in the categories. We realize the first race was too “drafty” to get everyone into the most accurate categories, especially in the top categories. Lets see how the first race in May works out and if that’s not so great, we will just have to use short hill climbs for the race we use to set the categories for the month. We will get there!!

The World Championship and “Top 5” blogs will be updated over the weekend so you can then see how you are doing in both championships.

Thanks everyone for the continued support and hopefully see you on another Muckers race soon.

Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

Tough race!! lots going on but a no show from “ghostkiller” and just finishing within the gap i needed to Kyle means i somehow won the A7 category by 1.75 points!! If i hadn’t won my 4 way sprint at the end of Todays race, i’d have been second! Just goes to show you really need to keep pushing right to the end.

I also love how everyone who did all 4 races with us, got into the top 50 of the GC! That was impossible last year so i think this shows the new points structure from 51st downwards, really keeps those committed riders within a chance of top 50 this year.

Thanks everyone for a cracking race today.

  2. Mike Hagen says:

Yeah, it was a cracking race. Funny how things change. I wasn’t enthusiastic about racing. Didn’t have a good warmup. Wasn’t looking forward to, not one, but two times up the Kemmelberg. No rocket start. Was in the mid-40s a few minutes in, but RaTim and SwissChris were near. Maybe it wasn’t so bad. First time up the Kemmelberg, seemed I had some legs. Caught MatthiasHeil near the top. Not bad at all. Settled into a group, and we caught stragglers, moving up. There were, I think, eight of us in the group at the base of the second run up the Kemmelberg. Time for the pain-cave. What followed was my best 3-minute W of the year; overhauled chorus and Yumile at the top and powered into the descent. Actually thought chorus and I had broken away, but Yumile and MartijnS1980 got back on. We lost Martijn soon after. Throwing down hard pulls to keep the other two tired, I could see BigJonRides, macko, and m-forby in a group ahead. Guys I want to be with. We were gaining. But the runout was not long enough. chorus attacked with a km to go (WTF?!–he was supposed to be too tired!). We had 20 m gaps between us with 500 m to go. I almost reeled chorus in, Yumile almost did the same, it was a cracking good finish! Kudos to all who finished. But I don’t want to see 24% Kemmelberg any time soon, thank you.

For me it was a fun race. It went by faster than I thought it would at first, also with little warm up. I started slower than in other races and little by little I was catching some riders until I got into a bigger group with Mike and Ratim, but it didn’t last long because as we were catching some of them others were staying behind. At the end we were Mike, Yumile and I, and seeing that I was going to win the sprint, I decided to attack first and got to get first. A fun finish surprising my teammates.

Race very tough, after 3 days of hard training, I did a good thing. This month for me was difficult to do a good result in my category A6, first because I rode only 3 races and 2 in other slot times with not many riders and second also in this category I find some riders that usually couldn’t be there 🤷‍♂️. I finished at 8th general position in A6. I hope in a better for the next April Champ.
    See you all 👋

Happy with this performance and time. Started steady and quickly joined Muckers sunniva and Jeff65 at a constant pace. Comfortable doing 2.9 – 3.0w/kg pulling on the front with regular rests in the draft, our group never got bigger than 4 riders and we spent time with Muckers teammates Arno & stelviobound who unfortunately fell away on route. sunniva worked me out perfectly and would allow me to claw back on when I lost ground on the cobbled climbs so I could help on the flat sections. Up the Kemmelberg the final time she had a decision to make, follow hoos or risk waiting 400ft for me so we could work together to reel him back, luckily, she took the 2nd option and we succeeded in the ‘catch’. Then it was important at least one of us out sprinted our ‘non Mucker’ opponent, this is hard without communication, sunniva gave the ‘thumbs up’ 👍 in the final mile, I translated that as ‘work done’ and permission to go for the sprint ( I hope ) so I was pleased to finish the job.

You understood me so well Steven, thumbs up was my thanks for the race and now you can go for the victory.
I like such routes very much and we rode well, I was tired but happy. I improved my time from last year’s race.
Thank you and see you next time.

Confe-race. All day networking with old friends, few good speeches and making new connections. I also met developer from Rouvy and he showed me features to be shipped soon, think everyone will love them! There was afterparty and they served great looking burgers, but i had to resist, because Muckers race was coming and im sure it would end up terribly 🙂

Flat introduction with three kickers along the route. First one decided race. I had strong legs and was sitting 7th after first climb. There was Alieno ahead and Nelson slightly behind. Knowing who is real rider and who not, i waited to Nelson. We tried catch leaders, it looked promising, until it did not 🙂 Tijs was dropped from leading group, but i think both Nelson and Tijs rode some crazy race before, because they looked a bit tired.

Never mind, i continued with other group led by famous Simon. I choosed different tactic and was riding in front of group as much as possible, hoping we might catch four in lead group? That was too ambitious, but we forced them to ride actively and both groups finished with nice sprints. Great and different racing, thank you all who joined us!
