We are experimenting with Niteor’s Categories over the remaining races this year, with a goal to use them for some small bonus points next year. Its not set in stone, so let’s see how it goes. So although you are now in a certain cat, please don’t worry, we are just seeing how it works and calculates them as we go. I really want to add them next year but want them to constantly be analyzed and updated as we go so you are always in the right category, rather than “sandbagging” at the beginning of next years world so you get put in a lower than real category and start earning bonus points that you don’t deserve! I just want to give everyone who’s not really looking at the top 20/40/50 places something extra to aim for within the race.
No other real important updates this week. 1st let me thank you all for trying to keep the heart rate data rule going as out of last months top 50, only 2 didn’t supply the data so that’s a great result. Also, at the time of this blog we only have this race and the next 2 scheduled for this months championship. We are waiting for the next challenge to be released then we will choose the route we want to use for Thursday the 28th. Ok, that’s it for now.
ROUVY ROUTE USED:
Alpe d’Huez | France | 8.9 mi | 3,547 ft
EXTRA TIME SLOTS REPORT:
We start this month with a classic hill climb. A little steeper than what we normally like to use in championship but it was the only challenge route that looked short enough in time to squeeze in as a weekday route. But 3500ft is very challenging, and then to try and race it and set a good time, is even harder! Wednesday’s 2LATE4ME version only had one starter and it was Muckers Worldwide Team Member “cdtchris” who solo’d his way to the top in a time of 1:34. Well done Mucker!
Another solo effort at the 4:30am 2EARLY4ME version but at a very strong pace comes “Phrust” who smashes off this climb in a very respectable 1:16, averaging 2.8w/kg all the way! Well done indeed!
The popular time slot of 9:30am for the RISE&RIDE version had just enough for some competition with 6 on the start line. 2 DNF’d leaving “hposport” to get the gold, “Tuden” to get the silver” and “Hans.Holm.Moeller” to get the Bronze” All 3 of these riders smashing up this climb in under 55mins!!! These are some great times for the main race to aim for!
5 turned up for the EARLY-ON version at lunch time but 2 DNF’s means just 3 finished so only a mention for first place with that honor going to “smariobj59” with the German getting up the route in under 59 mins! Great pace mucker!
another 2 DNF’s for the LATER-ON race left just 2 riders to complete the route, so the last mention from all the extra time slots races goes to “Wouter80” who climbed his way to the top in a nice 1:11:49 which is a very strong and steady 3.0w/kgs.
MAIN RACE REPORT:
169 REGISTERED, 80 FINISHERS, 8 DNF.
88 riders on the start line for a long hill climb slog-watts-fest!! You (We) all must be mad , or mad for points, but we set off at 7:05pm and its quite nice for a few minutes….. then we climb!!!
Watching Colin’s @insidecyclingworld live feed, it looked like the winner “Alieno79” had this under control all the way for the win. It might have been a different story in his real environment so it’d be great to hear from him to get his side if the story, but a very nice strong effort from the Italian rider.
“breers33” gets a hard battled 2nd in front of “Gil.Mad.io” in 3rd. Top 3 managing to stay at or above 5.0w/kg!! 4th to 9th solo over the line in the following order: “BareRemi”, “NikolajBugge” , “karel_sousek”, “FlyingSkywalker”, “millony” and “sproutpicker”. Quite interesting also is that this top 9 are all from different countries! “ErlendSundstrom” ruins my top 10 of different nationalities 😉, being the 2nd Norwegian over the line, just in front of top Spanish rider “magayol” in 11th and top Dutch rider “RuudBaars” in 12th. Trust Erlend to spoil my different nationalities in the top 11 goal as well! 😂😂😆
13th comes world championship leader “Stefan_Schmidt” just in front of “alfiocrist75” . a little later comes “Dok_PS” in 15th, then 2nd place in the worlds comes “lrollin” in 16th. 17th gets awarded to “Brampaulussen”, 18th to “m-forby”, 19th to “Guthinger-Mike” and final mention tonight goes to “Badeskum”
Well done everyone and i hope you got that joy we did when you finally crossed that line!

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...
27 places away from the top 50! that’s all you get for 2.88w/kg average up here today! i actually though i was climbing quite well, and an if score of 0.98 isn’t too far off but this was a race full of hitters. well done everyone and lets see how the next 3 races pan out and see if i can climb into the top 50. I did get top in my category though which is nice!!
Beginning to think I like these hour-long climbs; really helps to have the legs for them. I’d settled into a hard but sustainable pace, had caught and passed several riders usually ahead of me (so, yes, was having a good day), and had caught nielsbrynnam and Thomas_Lynne about halfway up. Was happy to ride with those two, but the group of robbiedoo, anatso, TedMatteo_07, and alanshann was just ahead. So, a hard surge, and bridged up, leaving the other two behind. Kinda surprised that I managed that. We lost robbiedoo shortly after I joined the group. I wonder if TedMatteo realized he was riding with three Canadian 65+ old gits? Not willing to leave enough alone, I surged again on the last steeper bit about 2 km from the finish. We lost Alan there, but the other two didn’t even wave when they caught me again and disappeared into the distance. After that, it was a matter of holding off the_romain who was on a tear. Unsuccessfully, as it turned out. But it was fun! Kudos to all who finished that monster climb.
For me it was a 48 minute mountain time trial. Had internet connection problems from the beginning and didn’t see any other riders on the track. Not too bad on this route as there was real draft only within the first two minutes. I watched Colin’s livestream and saw that the others could see me which made me positiv to become listed in the rating at the end, which kept my motivation up. Finally reached 9th place behind Karel, 366 W on average as a PR and learning that I’m just a bit too heavy to end up on the podium on mountains like these… Thanks to all riders, to Muckers and to Collin!
Please let me know if anyone has any tips to solve connection problems… (my setup: Apple TV 4k, route downloaded, 55 Mbit down, 22 Mbit up, 24ms ping)
Whew, that Alpe d’Huez climb was a beast! Honestly, I went into this race with a mix of excitement and trepidation. I knew it was going to be a tough one, but I was also eager to test myself against the legendary climb and see how I stacked up against the other Muckers.
It was interesting for me because I’d actually ridden the Alpe d’Huez on Zwift before, but it was a while ago on my old Tacx trainer which only had a 6% max gradient. I finished that ride with a time of 1 hour and 2 minutes. This time around, I was on Rouvy with my newish Wahoo Kickr Core, which can simulate gradients up to 16%! I knew going in that my time would likely be slower due to the increased realism and difficulty of the climb.
My strategy was to start conservatively and try to maintain a steady pace throughout the climb. I knew that going out too hard would likely come back to bite me later on. For the most part, I managed to stick to my plan, but there were definitely a few moments where I had to dig deep and fight the urge to ease up.
Around bend 10, I hit a bit of a wall. My legs were burning, and I started to doubt whether I could maintain the pace. It was right around then that fellow Mucker, Mick_Michel, joined me. He stayed with me and encouraged me to keep pushing even when all I wanted to do was slow down. Having him there for support was a huge boost, and I’m incredibly grateful for his help in getting me to the top.
I was really happy with my overall performance. Finishing with a time of 1:08:28 was a solid result, especially considering the challenging course and the strong field of riders. More than anything, I was proud of myself for pushing through the tough moments and never giving up.
Hi, just a quick question, this may have been answered before but am fairly new to this. On the last race my result was 37, I’ve double checked today and still says 37th but on the table above I am 41st? Not sure why there is a difference?
Hi Nathan, the reason why this has happened is because we blend all the times together from all the different start times into one big leaderboard. so you must have had 4 riders finish in a faster time than yours in one of the other versions of the race. hope this clears that up for you, but just hit the link to NITEOR and itll take you to the race results and you can see all the different results from all the different start times etc etc

Thanks Neil, I did think that may have been the case but just wanted to double check.
