MUCKERS NOVEMBER CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 2. 09/11/23

ROUVY Route Used: Challenge Wanaka | New Zealand 40 km | 24.85miles | 1466.54 ft

127 Registered | 88 Starters | 79 Finishers | 9 DNF | 39 DNS

spookily we have the exact same amount of starters for this 2nd race of the championship as we had for the first one! But only 9 NEDs in the top 50 positions so can i first thank you all for getting on board with how we are trying to keep it so we can include all trainers on these races. Yes, some of the “dumb” trainer results look a tiny bit out, but they will never look as accurate as a smart trainer, which is why we ask to see heart rate data so we can at least see an effort was put in to get into the magic top 50 points positions.

Watching the live stream we had a proper sprint for the race and “breers33” gets awarded 1st place and maximum points tonight! very closely followed by “Simon_Hahnenbruch” in 2nd, “Luca_ma” in 3rd, “nelsonsnyder” in 4th and “Dennis_R” in 5th. The top 5 separated by just 1.4 seconds!

“karel_sousek” finds himself in a little bit of no mans land in 6th, then we have the sprint for 7th thats won by top places Muckers Worldwide Team rider “Grochang” with “rocket996” getting 8th, “lrollin” getting 9th and “CerveloKevin” getting a well deserved 10th!

Sprint for 11th from Duo “DeGutter” in 11th then with identical time in 12th comes “Stefan793” We then have a gap to another duo duking it out with “Gazinho” in 13th and Mucker “nielsbrynnum” in 14th. 10 seconds later comes a 3 way sprint with “stefan793” getting 15th, “boogybill70” getting 16th then “leonelcunha” pipped to 17th.

18th gets awarded to “s.cata” , 19th to Mucker “MikeHagen” and final mention goes to another rider whos proud to be a Mucker, “batbuilder” with the bump up to 20th!

The live feed really showed so many little sprint offs over the line, it was so good to watch. If you a reading this and didn’t realize we live streamed it, please pop over to our YouTube site and watch as you take on the opposition!

top 20 mentions is a very exclusive club, and, so hard to get into with so many strong riders joining us race after race! Why not celebrate this with a special mention T-Shirt? visit the shop and treat yourself!! you deserve it!

Neil Rushby

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

So many great little races along the way to 54th. finally a glitch free race, well the ROUVY side was fine as long as i use my mobile phone as my screen at the moment, but the bike decided to loose power tonight for about 10 seconds, which was enough to drop me from a group i was just holding onto in the first place. But even then, it wasn’t long till i was caught again and another race started! really enjoyed it, and its been a while since ive been able to say that. cheers everyone.

I have been kicked out 1 minnute before the start, than again on 100m after the start. As usually new ROUVY release did not allow me to rejoin to the race. I quicky started up old PC and older ROUVY release which alowed me to rejoin to the race. 7min time gap from the start and 83 place on the tail evoked me to individual time trial. When I catch some riders and reached around 70 place on 15km I lost connection to all sensors. Grrrrr, no time for tears. Next minutes gap and the riders I have overtaken, were ahead me again. So again the alone time trial to the finish to reach 65 place. Please I want obtain an award “Jumper of the race” 😀

  2. Steven Ludford says:

Physically, I did not enjoy this race. Mentally, I loved it, with numerous tactical decisions and a bit of teamwork. A difficult start, found a group but immediately sensed it would be tough to stay with. Myself and ‘Mucker1974’ dropped back from the group and found ourselves together for a few miles in need of more firepower which arrived in the shape of ‘flyger’ plus another I forget name of. They arrived with a little more power than I had so I dropped to 0.0w/kg hoping Neil would get the message to go with them and forget me … my race over … well, no it wasn’t. ‘Runner2003’ and ‘Ruud.B’ caught me but didn’t ride through with momentum so I jumped on, had a brief rest, then actually contributed until we came back up to Neil who was now solo after a glitch. ‘Runner2003’ appeared to be strongest and eventually rode away from us, leaving 3, I was unsure if ‘Ruud.B’ was riding clever for a late break/sprint or starting to get tired. On the penultimate ‘kicker’ Neil put in really strong watts, 100ft gap quickly, I continued up the hill deliberately pulling less watts to see if he could create a gap worth protecting, 200ft+, success, unfortunately for ‘Ruud.B’, but hopefully, not unexpected, I now sat on his wheel regardless of speed and power and allowed Neil to keep increasing the gap. My new partner now had a choice of losing more and more time or pulling me back in his slipstream. Now sensing he was definitely getting tired, on the final uphill I attached and broke away, apologies sir, it was not personal, but the two blue jerseys probably helped you understand the scenario that played out. So, bizarrely, about 25/30 positions lower than Tuesday but equally fulfilling race.

  3. Manuel Lamber says:

Tough race, at high pace. Good start, looking for a group that maintained a medium-high trend. I worked hard, with Batbuilder, S.cata, macko, DonJulio. I worked as a team with TOR68, and in the end I fought hard with MatthiasHeil and Tranberg, I risked a long final sprint, wheel to wheel with TOR68…. head down hoping not to explode 🤣. Until the next challenge 💪

  4. Rocket Roy Nield says:

Nice write-up Neil. This was a real puncheurs course and I just didn’t have enough punch. Quite enjoying my move from RGT with some decent racing and great to see an organiser who enforces his rules rather than sweep them under the rug.

  5. Kyle Goodram says:

This route didn’t suit me, but I thought I’d give it my best and see where I end up. At the start, I could see I was in 64th position — not good if I wanted to earn some points. Knowing there would be a few climbs, I aimed to gain a few places. I managed to reach the 50th spot, securing some points. I joined a group with “SwissChris69,” “Squalo_delle_Alpi,” “joRoe,” and “HeikeHardt,” gaining several positions and ending up in the mid-30s. Later, I caught up with the group ahead, including “Michelleke,” “DonJulio,” and “TOR68.” In the end, I could see “TOR68,” “Squalo_delle_Alpi,” and “MatthiasHeil” gaining on me, but I just about managed to hold my position. That was tough. Looking forward to the last race of the championship — my type of race. See you all on Sunday for the Epic 112 Mile ride in Hawaii.

  6. Mike Hagen says:

I rode a smarter race than on Tuesday, sheltering in the draft of my group a fair bit. My group was holding positions 18 through 27 or so; it was a good group. I was trying to go hard at the bottoms and tops of the shorter climbs, and survive the longer ones. That was working well, then we got to the long 3 km climb out of Albert Town at about 26 km, and there leonelcunha and boggybill70 went hard and it broke the group up. At the top, those two were away, I could see s.cata just ahead, and I was riding with fnajazzman. He and I traded off for a bit, then coming into Lake Hawea I decided to attack one of the snappers and see if I could get away. It worked a charm! I nailed the climb, and, I don’t know, maybe fnajazzman missed a shift, but I got 50 m on him by the top and stretched that to 150 m shortly after. Then it was just a cruise the last 6 km to get 21st, except fnajazzman wasn’t giving it to me, he closed to within 75 m and it was a hard last few km.

  7. Silvia says:

I started really fast in the top 10 for a few seconds 🤪, then drafted as long as I could with guys passing me until I found a group with Batbuilder, Peters7 and my all time female opponent HeikeHardt. But she’s a way better climber than I am, so after 12 Km and Z7 HR for too long I had to let go 🤷‍♀️. After that I sadly couldn’t find a group to hold on too, so I just enjoyed the scenery and made sure I ended in the top 50 😎

  8. lrollin says:

A bit less than 5 kilometers with the lead group at the beginning, and then, at the first real attack, I got dropped. I rode solo for a while and then waited for the group with Grochang, who was 250 meters behind. A fairly large group formed, but an attack by BareRemi shattered it. I followed him and rode with him for 5 or 6 kilometers before losing his draft *. Again, a slowdown and waiting for Grochang, rocket996, and CerveloKevin, who were still 200 meters away. We rode together in the final part, on a slight downhill, to the final sprint, which was won by Grochang.

*Since the new Rouvy update, there have been quite a few issues with riders disappearing and losing the drafting effect.

  9. luca_ma says:

This one really hurt. I almost missed the initial split (again!). I was fighting with bad possibility and constantly finding myself at the end of the group with almost no drafting. So it was hard to fight back, few times I made the “attack” a bit longer to make it feel for others. This reduced the group to 7 people. All of them looked comfortable with the peace. When I saw procat and Dennis_R how calmly they drop behind and went back to the group right in front to pull, I realized I have to save energy as much as possible, just to survive in this group.
Then a long stretch with small hills, a lot of small attacks and no time to catch breath. In the end of that hilly part the strong duo split our group into peaces. I joint with Nelson and Simon and somehow managed to get back to the front. Then it was last 7 km flat run to the line. I was really done, no chance to try something, just pushing what’s left, hoping I will stay in draft. Not knowing who is attacking and who follows, sorry. Just all out in like 350m, finishing in the middle of the group. My top watts on rouvy so far, thank you guys!

  10. Torben Adolph says:

My plan was to stay in zone 3-4 (power) but ended up in high zone 4 and 5+6 from the start. I didn’t catch any other riders during the race that was able to work on draft between us, so this was again a one man race for me. 2/3 of the race my stomach again didn’t want to play along and that ended in me couldn’t even do freaking 200 watt for the most of the remaining race.
Despite of an internal gasturbine I only got a 68th place.
Now it’s recovery ride until the long Sunday “race” with the Muckers 🙂

  11. Peter O (batbuilder) says:

Another really good race, through nice scenery. I set off a bit slow, as I always do. I prefer to do the chasing rather than looking over my shoulder all the time. I am not sure that this is the right strategy but it seems to work. I got in a group with Peters7, SillySILNL and HiekeHardt for a few miles then managed to get away to the next group containing some familiar names Squalo delle api, TOR68, Michelleke and others. With 7K to go we made a concerted effort to catch up with next group before the last sprint finish to the line. AndyUP passed me with a few 100m to go but I managed to catch up. The avatars looked as though they crossed the line together, but the time put me 5s ahead.- It looked a lot closer than that, infact it looked as though he might have got over the line slightly ahead, but Rouvy knows best…

    • Peter o (batbuilder) says:

Looking back at the Youtube video it was Svard, not Andy_UP who I sprinted to the line. However Svard doesn’t appear in the muckers or Rouvy results table. How can this be, he was definitely there and definitly beat me?

      • Steven Ludford says:

Svard reported and shared a screenshot of Rouvy crashing on him right at the finish line …. very frustrating

      • Ard (Svard) says:

Yes, it was me! I had some support by Andy_UP, he prepared my sprint. I needed it as you were quite fast in the final. My application froze at the moment I hit the finish line, so I got a much slower time (it reported me as finished after restarting the app and go back in the race). But I enjoined the battle, was fun!

  12. Andy_UP says:

Championship race! Fast start (into top10!) grabbing wheels all over the place but had to let the front group go. A large group formed and I tried to keep in the draft and not get dropped on the hills. On one of the last hills, the group split and I’m dropped with neminemlaedere and svard. I tried to do some pulling because I was feeling ok and I saw batbuilder and peters7 getting closer. All in vein, they cought us and we’re with 5, racing for 22 to 27the place. Batbuilder attacked, Svard went after him and I tried to catch the draft of svard but I am at 8m. I manage to close the gap and I see peters7 and neminemlaedere are on 15m, so I take the lead, do a strong pull, because I know sprinting vs svard is a loss for me, I benefit by dropping racers before the sprint. The gap increased and I see they give up the chase. We all took turns and just over 1k to go batbuilder decides to test our leggs and put’s me and svard on a gap. I give it all to close it, svard, smart as he is, stays in my draft. 500m to go and I closed the gap and I’m all done. 1h02min avg 2W under my FTP, 1.05 IF, no wonder I didn’t feel like sprinting. Great race! Very fun.

  13. Karel Soušek says:

Thursday race with strong lineup, this time with different ending. We started as always, few pushes from everyone in the leading group. All looked fine till second half of the race. Then Simon or someone else did one more push in short climb and i started to loose. Nothing wrong with drafting, my legs or with paying attention, simply this push was too much.
Gap was 30-50m, slowly growing, as the leaders packed together in the next climb. Good to see how drafting makes difference. I did my best till the end, finished just under 1min gap. Good race, thanks everyone who joined!

  14. Grep. previosly grep1 :-D says:

Thanks Neil and all Muckers for these event initiatives. I am always looking forward for the race because after some passed races I feel inside the big peloton as a team member of realy big wide word friend’s group and I eventhoug “know” the names only virtually I “know” their power and style and that is what the race does more real. Thanks to all!

  15. Haldor_HalAir says:

Unable to attend Thursday 2/5 race, but enoy these write-ups after the race and I feel I missed out on something fun ;D I have been riding but solo, when schedule allow for it. In a phase where I focus on VO2-work twice a week and putting these efforts on Tues/Thursday fit me well….usually 🙂

    Untill next time…!
