MUCKERS SCARY FAST HALLOWEEN RACE! 31/10/23

ROUVY Route Used : Halloween | 12.18 miles | 905ft

135 Registered | 93 Starters | 81 Finishers | 12 DNF | 42 DNS

ROUVY wasn’t playing nice tonight! with about 20 minutes to go, most riders were reporting unable to get on the race until a few reports started to trickle in saying they were finally able to load the race and were now on the warm up screen! scramble last minute preps and somehow we ended up with 93 on the start line!

“Dennis_R” was scary fast tonight, winning with an amazing average power of 424watts! This was more than enough to keep fellow German, and regular podium finisher “Simon_Hahnenbruch” a good 12 seconds behind in 2nd, and “Karel_sousek” just a further 0.7 seconds back in 3rd! What a fast top 3!

Nice to see American power house “nelsonsnyder” in a strong 4th, And one of the top GURE riders “11_GURE _EDU” in 5th. Regular top French rider “lrollin” in 6th just kept Top Muckers Worldwide Team Rider “nielsbrynnum” in 7th , who was busy having his own sprint race with “TOR68” in 8th. Our next Mucker “Grochang” gets a well deserved 9th, with “Christophe-Patterson” making it 2 Americans in the top 10 of this Halloween race…..

“s.p” is only 4 seconds away from the top 10 with his 11th place, With fellow German rider “Stefan_Smit” getting awarded 12th with 2 NEDs either side! “Jackimati” gets the unlucky 13th place, with fellow Spanish, and latest Mucker, “chorus” just behind in 14th place. Getting the bump to 15th is another Mucker “Tom-MWW” , just in front of “PatrykS_Gdynia_PL” in 16th, and yet another Mucker putting in a strong performance with “DonJulio” in 17th!

18th and 19th, and making it a strong 6 Muckers in the top 20 comes “Groenen” just in front of “Batbuilder” who himself kept todays last mention placed “Michelleke” in 20th!

Some new mentions tonight so well done to those guys and to all of you as this was a crowded race! Why not celebrate the mention with the T-shirt we have in the shop just for you guys, and, possibly in your language!? They’ve really proved to be a popular seller recently, which just shows there’s some real muckers out there helping us out, but you can only buy one if you’ve had a mention!! 😂😂😂 Its the law… or something like that……

Remember to Join us for the start of Novembers Championship event this Thursday and every Thursday for the whole of November, and remember if you can’t make the 7pm race, we have another chance at 9:30pm or 11:30pm, which will be included in the championship via the time you set compared to the main race. Neil Rushby

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

ROUVY definitely played its best Halloween Trick on me tonight!! All day I’d been looking forward to this as I was confident that this shorter route would be good for me, but on the way home the chat on the WhatsApp group was getting frantic with reports of the app not loading. I got home, went up stairs to the pain cave and set about seeing if it would load. it just wouldn’t so I resided to the fact to go and spend some extra quality time with the current Mrs. Mucker! just as I sit down, the phone is pinging again! “its back one” and “I’m on” etc etc, so just as the wife was thinking about asking me to either give her a head massage or play with her feet (you know, the usual “rest” we get when we spend time together) I was off like a shot and full gear on and was on the bike, with just a bottle of water, with about 3 minutes of warm up!

This is where i went wrong…….. i jokingly said on the chat, “this is where it crashes just as we start” and guess what? that’s exactly what happened!!! #temptfate #whycantyoukeepyourmouthshut #halloweentrick

not only did it crash and take me to my ipads home screen, it had completely logged me out as well so by the time I’d put in the email address and password, and it painstakingly slowly loaded up, the race link wasn’t there anymore. couldn’t find it anywhere on the new app at all. So it was all over! what a night… happy Halloween everyone.

tried a 5-7 times today to ride the Halloween ride🎃 same thing every time the countdown stops, and I get thrown to iPads homepage🙄 when I got tired of trying that I tried a route in the Hill Thrill Seeker challenge I was missing. Spooky things here too. Several times it said I was already connected to another device🫣🤔 and I was NaN😳 The New update is full of problems and Rouvy devs need to pull their💩 together 😂

After a week ‘on the sick’ I was surprised at my form tonight. I was still deliberately seeking shelter and draft wherever possible, initially hoping to group with Farnham teammates Hoppytherocket and gunnera, then accidentally drifted forward in the draft of Mucker teammate tomlerieger, mareckii and Slyfly on a forgiving but long uphill gradient. The arrival of kylofski was my cue to drop off, the pace was too hot now, luckily Slyfly dropped away at the same time and waited for me and paced me nicely to the top of the climb, I tried to repay the favour on the descent and we stayed together to the line before launching a very late sprint in the final 150ft to the line. I was actually happy to see Slyfly take the sprint, I held my effort all the way to the line to keep it close but I was reluctant to go the extra 5% for the sake of my recovering body.

  3. Manuel Lamber says:

Rouvy pulled the Halloween trick on me too… everything connected and then down… I try a last second trick before the start and I tell myself I’ll start only with my cell phone and instead with the new updated app I’ll start I assume a time trial course. A big S…t. After 10 km I somehow return to the TV screen but everything is now gone. Let’s hope well for Thursday evening 😬

Well, it was a crazy race. I was caput before the little climb, I could not keep the pace of riders like “jakimati” and two os three more that was riding together, then I tried to arrive at finish line keeping the distance to followers. Yesterday was a hard day at work and i had to jump to the saddle 5 minutes before the race. I was lucky because the app worked fine

  4. Haldor Lønningdal says:

I was blissfully unaware of any issues last night – except my inferiour capacity to pose any threat to the top contenters 🙂 Started hard in 15th place but were passed by 20 or so riders during the race and made a sprint finish securing me with 34th position.

Congrats to those who participated and for the race, I will be back for more suffering on Thursday.:)

  5. Thomas Rieger says:

I struggled a lot after the start due to no warm up time! I rode together with teammate Steven Ludford and I planned to stay with him for the entire race. But suddenly Kyle Godram arrived from the back like a rocket. My legs were warm enough now and I could follow him in the ascent. We stayed together until finish line. lessons learned: with cold legs I will never get a mention!
have a good time whererever you are and see you on the next Mucker race, cheers Tom

  6. Kyle Goodram says:

I was really excited about this race. I’d never done a themed race before on Rouvy. A few days before, we sent out loads of social media posts about this Muckers Race, so I expected a big turnout. Oops, gremlins struck again on Halloween. Rouvy went down at a crucial point about an hour before the race. I was gutted to find out I wasn’t racing. Then, with 10 minutes to go before the race, it came back up. Quickly, I changed and jumped on the bike to warm up. The race started, and I found myself in 58th position. We still had 130+ riders registered for this race even with the glitches.

So, I decided that the first part had a slight hill, and I pushed hard. I caught up to “S.Ludford,” who was riding with “tomlerieger,” two fellow Muckers. The pace I had was a little too strong for “S.Ludford,” but “tomlerieger” came with me. We reached the top of the hill in a pack with “srichards” and “wurstrolle_81” (good to see you back racing with us). “srichards” pushed ahead. With about 1 mile left, we caught him back up, and “tomlerieger” put the power down, so I went with him. I could see the barriers, I thought. So I put in a good 8 W/KG to break, which I did. But this wasn’t the finishing barriers. I went too early, and “tomlerieger” took me. I tried to race him to the line, but he was too strong. Well done to everyone who participated last night; it was fun. A big shout out to Chad for streaming the whole race on YouTube. Awesome. I can’t wait for Thursday’s first November Championship race. 😀

Horror 👻👻 race equal to horror warm up 🚴🏻‍♂️💨 For the gun went off I tried to catch the wheels from the front group but the pace was beyond my strength 🥵 I settled instead in a chasing group with my super strong fellow 🇩🇰 Mads G 💪🏻💪🏻 and an impressive Spanish rider 11_Gure_Edu 💪🏻💪🏻. We worked well together in the group, but it seemed like Gure didn’t like the 🇩🇰 sandwich 😉 I tried to follow Gure but he was to strong 🚴🏻‍♂️💨💨 however my effort to follow Gure closed the gap to the strong 💪🏻 💪🏻 Italian rider TOR68 who had been in no man’s land between our group and the front group. TOR68 and I had a great sprint finish 👍🏻 Great 👻👻 race

  8. Batbuilder says:

That was a very fast race for me. I had no technical gripes, but I was surprised to see some riders I know to be a lot quicker charging up through the field, so I knew that something technical was going on. In the end 4 riders , Michelleke, Mako, Jami and yayareki caught me up and we had a final sprint for the line.

  9. John - SR-71 says:

I was more than prepared for this race. Since it was a short route, I had rode it twice a couple days before the race. I had my strategy and knew where I would attack. All my gear was set, livestream on the wait. And then “failure to load” arrrgh!!! I sat in disbelief on the couch. With 15 minutes to go, I decided to get suited up, vs rubbing my girlfriends feet. Yes, she must be like Muckers wife. I keep reloading and reloading…and reloading. Finally I’m in, and the only one at the line. I’m starting to wonder if the glitch would make me all alone. And then there was SlyFly, and another and another, coming like zombies the crowd kept getting bigger. Just as the race started, the livestream engaged, and I was in the moment. And as per my strategy I took off like a turtle. I was quickly in 60th place and I was ok with that as I knew what was ahead. I took it easy for the first couple miles, finding a draft where I could to save for the climbs and even lost a few positions. At mile 4 I caught gunnera. I remember he was a great drafting partner last race so I fell in line with him. We started working back and forth on the climb, we were pushing 20 mph and the draft was strong. When we got to the steeper part, my plan was to push hard. Gunnera held with me til the very top but I was trying to catch blinkybob to get help with the draft down the other side. I went over the top with blinkybob and pulled away from gunnera. I did a mild push down the hill in preperation for an assault on the second climb. I avg’d 290 w on the second climb!! (my ftp is 233) My legs were burning but I had to push down the hill and get ready for the final sprint on the flat. I sprinted with a half mile to go, knowing the final 900 feet were steeply downhill and I could just carry the speed. Somehow in all that I managed to move forward to 53rd place. I remember passing some people but not all, I was so focused on my plan and catching/helping with the draft. I ended up avg’ing 244 w and took 8 minutes off my pre-race ride times.

  10. Mads Grosen says:

Spooky ride with spooky watts! My FTP went 5 watts up, even though my legs felt very deflated after Sundays 2 races. I tried to hang on my danish companion Niels and the Spanish bull Gure, but had to let them go on the first climb. Impressive how long Niels could stick with Gure, after his 36K trail run this weekend💪
I was all solo from that point, but still had to push hard to keep the American Christopher coming hard from behind on the last 3K. I went from having over 400 meters to Christopher to only 100m at the end – madness descent watts from Christopher, so thanks for keep pushing my watts to the very end, it felt like a 3K sprint 🥵

  11. Andy_UP says:

Couldn’t make it to the start, so did this ride yesterday (wednesday). Easy 156W and 129 avg hr, took me to 69th place in the race table (38’48”). Will be (hopefully) different on thursday 😉
