MUCKERS NOVEMBER CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 1 OF 5. 02/11/23

ROUVY Route Used: DATEV Challenge Roth | Germany 40 km | 23.61miles |1358.27 ft. climbing

127 registered | 91 starters | 77 finishers | 14 DNF | 36 DNS

Decent turn out for the first race in this months championship and as we all set off with fingers and toes all crossed after the latest reports of glitches and Tuesdays race nearly not happening due to not loading, it was time to get some points on the board!

“breers33” get the perfect start with a bump up to 1st position, just in front of “luca_ma” in 2nd and “Risckys_GURE” in 3rd, “nelsonsnyder” in 4th and finally “Dennis_R” in 5th. I’ve grouped this top 5 together as only 23 seconds separated them all! Well done!!

In a little bit of no-mans-land comes “IvanSagan86” in 6th, then a sprint off for 7th which was won by top Muckers Worldwide Team Rider “Grochang” just in front of German duo “s.p.” in 8th and “Stefan793” in 9th. 10th goes to “lrollin” 11th to “m-forby” and 12th to the 2nd Mucker over the line “nielsbrynnum”. “A2-569-DIEGO-DONATI” comes over the line for 13th then we have a little gap while 3 NEDs finish.

14th gets awarded to “rocket996”, then a close battle for the next 3 places which was won by “Stefan_Smit” in 15th, Mucker “Andy_UP” in 16th and “boogybill70” in 17th. 2 Muckers next with “Svard” getting 18th and “Gazinho” in 19th, then the final mention goes to “yayarecki” whos been racing with us for a long time now so I’m really glad you got a mention tonight!

Sorry to the guys who didn’t get points because of no friendship/HR data but i sent friends requests to you all again but once I start this blog, that’s final. Top 50 positions are all checked.

2 more races to go tonight so the championship table will be published tomorrow.

Cheers everyone.

Intense race and harder than expected, started very well, after the first uphill effort, I managed to catch up with a group that was traveling well, Chack, MattiasHell, Michelleke and SwissChris69.
I try to take advantage of the draw but then after a few km, I was no longer able to hold them and I ended up on a long solitary ride. Positive run-up on Arjanbier overcome with a final sprint even if the result was without points, it’s a shame not to have caught Chack a short distance away. Until next time. Today I got on the starting line 25 minutes early so as not to risk it 😬💪

  2. Steven Ludford says:

I hope the riders who see me hanging on to their draft understand I am at full effort and pose no risk to their final positions. If I was strong enough I would contribute but the effort required to haul 95kg up the inclines leaves me needing to draft and regain my breath on the flat sections where normally that would be my opportunity to help the group. Big thanks to Mucker ‘DonJulio’ tonight who was really trying to keep me in touch with our big group, after dropping away he brought me back to a tantalising 100ft gap but I had nothing more to offer and it was 100ft too far. The 2nd half of the route saw me riding with a couple of different riders but mostly with ‘rouvy1bryon’ to the finish line. He took 75% of the pulling while I hoped my 25% was helping to keep us both ahead of the closing chasers. I glitched badly and lost 100ft while ‘rouvy1bryon’ pulled away for I assumed the last time, however, my desperate out of the saddle big watts to keep ahead of ‘Mates11’ saw me catch and pass my previous partner on the road, if ‘Mates11’ wasn’t so close I would have rolled easy to the line but in the end I felt a sprint was justified to secure the best position possible.

Got messed up a little by the time change. The UK is already back on standard time, but we in NA don’t fall back until this weekend. I knew that, but forgot to double-check, and while I was ready to go at 10:45, the race wasn’t until noon. So I did the Culverden | Hurunui route as a warm-up. Maybe that was not the wisest thing to do? So it seemed, as I was decidedly sluggish when the race started, folk blowing away from me, and I’m in the mid-30s? OMG! But finally settled in. Rode with and/or passed MattiasHeil, Chak, and Squalo early on; and was in a good group with kyleofski, Rens_Piccavet, tomleregier, yayarecki, and neminemlaedere to about mid-way. Seemed to lose the draft then, and maybe everyone did? because we got some separation. So I did a surge and was able to get up with Tom-MWW and batbuilder. batbuilder got away, and I got a gap on Tom, so we didn’t have a sprint finish. Which was fine with me, quite frankly. But 30th overall? I guess my top-10 days are in the past. These Muckers races are really getting competitive, and that is awesome.

Thanks to ROUVY application defect and new absolutely unfinished release, I has been kick out from the race somewhere in the middle distance after the splitting hill without possibility to re-join eventhough the ROUVY was showing that I am already joined. Thank for 13 points eventhought I DNF. I appreciate that fair play Muckers game!!! Looking forvard next time.

looks like we are 1st and 2nd in the “app crash” league mate!! I’m gonna switch from my ipad to my iphone for the next one just to see if it lets me get over 500ft from the start. Good Luck Mucker

      • Silvia says:

Tip: since I switched to my Windows laptop Rouvy has never crashed. And I have never downloaded any route. Extra tip: while riding on my laptop I can also watch other parts of the race on my iPad in Watch-mode. No problem logging in on 2 devices with the same account. Only have to wait till after the start to watch the race since the last Rouvy update.

        • Neil Rushby says:

nice tips. i only have the ipad so i can only try my iphone next race. funny its just the races though, as both times I’ve been kicked from the races, I’ve been able to go back on and and do a just ride on another route with loads of other riders on the route and had no issues.

  5. Gary Taylor says:

A big win for me this week I’m now 87.3kg as of this morning due to changing out high density calorific food for low density carbs = more fruit and veg and legumes making you feel fuller for longer. At this rate I will be in the 86’s by next week with a goal of 80kg. I do think we need to bring in proving your weight for the top 20 as I see a lot of weight doping going on. Also publishing w/kg would be a good idea so you can check what weight a riders using. Doing a small spot check against riders stats outdoors tells me that something is off with about 20/30% of the riders in the field possibly running a lower weight to than on real life. The stats don’t lie,as for the real athletes I commend you for being true and that is why I will where the muckers shirt as a symbol of being weight clean. Rant off!!!

    • Kyle Goodram says:

Gary my weight changes during the week from 166 – 168 lbs that’s why I set Rouvy at 167 lbs. against my real world I can see my speed and hill climbs are roughly the same. Also a few of the riders on here I’ve also riden in the real world and they are as true to live as can be. if we add more restrictions on the races the fun element will disappear for a few. we have to catter for everyone. hope you understand.

      • Gary Taylor says:

Fair enough Kyle but it won’t go away anytime soon. I don’t see it as a restriction just more of a validation. Yes we all have fluctuations but it’s really common sense prevailing weigh yourself first thing in the morning will help give or take 1-2 lbs isn’t much but 5-10kg is 😂

        • Manuel Lamber says:

I’ll gladly give you 10 kg 🤣, I trust in honest people… at least on the rollers.. however for me it’s always an incentive to push harder, even now that with so many friends it becomes difficult to get into the top 30 😬

        • Silvia says:

Most of the guys in the top 20 know each other and also recognize if someone rides with unrealistic weight and W/kg. These people are mentioned in comments on Strava (and maybe here too?). So either they explain themselves or change their weight realistically for the next ride. I trust in the system that people want to win and get recognition for their effort. If they don’t get that, they’ll probably won’t stay in these races for long. If you want to be part of the Muckers race, you better behave like a Mucker 😎

          • Neil Rushby says:

Silvia, thank you again and you say what i hope a lot of people feel and hopefully trust. I can’t do anything about weight dopers, apart from message them and just ask “why????” “is it really that important to you to be in the top 10 of a virtual race that you are just doing all alone in your spare room/pain cave/ garage etc ??” “surely its better to be as realistic as you can make it so if you beat that rider you’ve just piped over the line, its actually because you did out race and out sprint them, and not because you gained an advantage by cheating!?” It completely baffles me and the rest of the Muckers.

  6. Torben Adolph says:

Due to leg injury I just did an easy zone 4 ride. A respected 72 place 🙂
For the first time ever I manage to stay away from fights along the race and the ride was good for my leg. Two more weeks with these low zone rides and I hope to be back for much better placement and a lots of infights along the races 🙂

  7. Kyle Goodram says:

Excitement wasn’t the word. Knowing it’s the first of the November Championship, I wanted to perform well even though the terrain doesn’t really suit my type of race. Hopefully, Rouvy would have sorted out its glitches. Unfortunately, for some riders, it didn’t. However, with 91 riders on the line, we started. I was in the 50th position, and pedaling hard, I found 2 other Muckers, “Rens” and “tomlerieger,” and basically, between the three of us, we made it to the end. It was a very tough ride. A few other riders, “neminemlaedere” and “macko,” helped this mini peloton. In the end, I finished 34th but bumped up to 26th due to the lack of heart rate data from others ahead of me. I’m quite pleased with that. See you next week for part 2.

  8. Haldor Lønningdal says:

Did my warm-up on a different route and joined the start-line 12s before GO 😉 Tight…
Decided to do a “gentle” start instead of pushing max wattage and find a nice group to work in. Managed to stay in the top third for the most part, and joining efforts with others when able. Rode with Matthias Heil for a while in the middle/flat section – I tried to ride up front/draft on rotation and we got a decent effort out of it.. Power profile didnt match well on the ascent/decents (I am close to 90kg) and I gained ground on the last main ascent which (barely…!) secured my position ahead – FUN! 🙂

I wont stand any chance against the top peleton, but that is part of the game – to chase “the difficult ones” 😀 My November/December structure is Zone 4-6 work on Tuesdays/Thursdays which work out perfectly with the Muckers November races…! 😀

Good race everybody, hopefully Rouvy will sort out their apps regarding this who suffer from connection issues! FWIW I run Rouvy off direct from Mac and have had zero issues fortunately. Cheers!

  9. Thomas Rieger says:

my legs felt nor really fresh during warm up due to my wednesday night ride effort. Started fast as possible, but controlled my HR. Found myself in a nice group at around place 25-30. The street was full of light blue shirts, what a nice view! Rode with fellows Kylofski, Rens and Mike until the top of the first hill. Had stomac problems in the descent (drank too many coffees) and lost contact to the group. rode alone for some time with no hope to come back to the group. waited a little time for Matthias and his fellow but decided to pull on the last 10K. Was close to catch Kyle again but was too weak for the final sprint after my effort! nice first race! thanks Neil for make this possible! cheers Tom

  10. Andy_UP says:

Downhill and flat start. Wanted to start really fast to get max opportunity of the draft. Worked well. On the hill I settled for abour 4.2w/kg, hoping I could manage this untill the top. Sadly, most just rode away from me on the hill, and another group just picked me up in the decent. Still it was a fast group and we managed to catch some racers back. Very fun race. Got dropped a few times, catched back some guys a few times. Even did some pulling and a final sprint. Love these kind of routes! Also, got bumped up into the mentions this time. Yeah!

  11. Mads Grosen says:

My legs were ready to conquer the first climb, which by the way felt forever.🥵 But first I need to mention how disoriented the first miles were. I found myself comfortable secured in top 10, but somehow and unexpected, I figured out that many ghost Riders had passed me, and I ended up as nr. 25ish before the first climb.😲 I were mentally prepared to dig deep on the climb to join a strong group on the descent. On the climb I mostly push over 5 w/kg, and I was glad to catch up with Nielsbrynnum on the middle of the first ascent. Niels my Danish companion and fighter were left with empty deflated legs to follow my “dig deep” plan on the first climb, which took me in to a 9th or 10th position
I found myself with the strong German S.P. but we were soon hooked up with Tim_U, Lrollin, Pawlaz and Stephane_martin who did a huge effort up front.🙏
The only way I could match the France man, Stephane_martins watts, were the up hill sequence or in his draft🚴🏼‍♂️💨🚴🏼‍♂️
At the finish line I was beaten by Pawlaz, but glad I took the 10th podium just in front of S.P.
I see now after regulation that many riders had technical issues, and I’m so sorry for those who couldn’t finish. At that expense it brought me up to seventh place.
Thanks Neil, a million times, for bringing together competition on every level👍

  12. Silvia says:

I just want to compliment the organization for getting all these big guns gathered together! My goal in crowded Rouvy races is to leave at least 70% of the men behind me. In the Muckers races I’ll be happy to finish in the top half 🥵. Especially on climbing routes.
So I’ll just try to be 1st on the women’s podium 😉. Succeeded that again, working together with Fabito88 and Andonhemust and winning the sprint to the finish. To bad I just missed the 50-cut by 2 riders, seems I loose a lot of points because of that: nr 50 earns 140 points and nr 52 only 94 😢

    • Neil Rushby says:

Hi Silvia, thanks for the comments. It takes so much time checking everyone that i have to stop at some point so i’ve decided on top 50 and those in the top 50 who i can’t see the hr data for, will not get any points. so if i hadn’t checked them you’d still be on exactly the same points anyway, and if the top 50 all had heart rate data, youd still be on the same points as well. I’m just giving the top 50 that comply with the rules, the chance to get a bump up in points… extra incentive to get top 50!! (which is a mad thing to write as it was only last year we were happy to get over 20 riders!!)

      • Silvia says:

Got it Neil 👍. Don’t want to give you anymore work 🤣. So I just need to get in that top 50 then 😉

        • Neil Rushby says:

          easy as that! 😂😂

          • Michelleke says:

Hi Neil, I’m quite new here (only did 4 races so far) but as I don’t like indoor cycling on a trainer, I registered myself in my first Roovy race last week hoping I would like it. And I really do! So many thanks for your time to coordinate all this and especially to spend your time to keep the Championship up to date. Great job! But -although the answer might be somewhere on your website already (I searched, but couldn’t find it yet)- I was wondering how the points are calculated, and why the 1st starts with 245 pts and not (for example) with 250. Not important at all, of course, but I was just wondering how it works.

I ‘ve also read the discussions here regarding the incorrect weight settings some riders may do. Really can’t believe some might do this in such a virtual race (but probably some will do). Fully understand you won’t be able to solve this problem. No worries!
