Muckers Tuesday Warm Up Race. 07/03/23

Rouvy Route Used: Challenge Gunsan-Saemangeum 2022 | Korea 30km | 18.6 miles | 85ft climbing

Route 4 from the TRI Season KICK OFF | MEDIUM challenge.

39 registered | 29 finishers | 1 dsq! | 4 dnf | 5 dns

This has been a long time coming!! An actual flat route on a Rouvy challenge!! After what seems like an endless run of climbs, it was a nice change.

34 riders were ready on the start for this race and all those who have races a few times now, knew they needed to be alert and hopefully get into a group of like minded and powerwise (is that a word???!!) riders and not be left solo!

Rouvy themselves disqualified the rider who finished first which goes to show that they do try and monitor the races/riders etc etc and obviously something flagged up as wrong with this guy! But come on, if you are going to win by nearly 2 minutes in front of the guys we have finishing in the top 4 today, you must be an actual professional rider at the top of your game, or cheating/glitching. Thanks Rouvy for the swift disqualification.

Flat and a sprint finish….. not a massive surprise to find this top 4, which could have been in any order on any other day, but today it was “feelslikemonday” claiming the gold, just over a second in front of “hinsbergen” , who was just a second in front of “adampel” in 3rd.

Just a few seconds more and “PatrykS_Gdynia_PL” came over the line in 4th, then “wurstrolle_81” popped over the line in a very strong 5th. 6th went to Muckersworldwide rider “denny44” finishing under a minute behind the winner. 7th was muckersworldwide team mate “DonJulio” who had a 25 second gap to “Bones1” in 8th, who was just under a second in front of our “Chak” in 9th.

8 riders followed in the 46 minute bracket, with “Campahrich” leading them all over the line to claim 10th.

All 29 finishers got to the end of this race in under an hour which meant they were all on time to start the main race if they so desired.

Please help the website and other racers by popping a comment on here after reading this as we all love to read how the race went for yourselves.

Cheers

21st and only 5 minutes behind the eventual winner. I’ll take that! i was with the 46 minute group (see header picture for evidence) but i just couldn’t keep that pace up for the whole 18 miles. i ended up in the 47 minute group and road along with Rens, Andy and Otero. I thought I had a sniff at beating them all but I latched onto the wrong wheel, and when i changed gear to sprint, the gear was just a tooth too big to go any quicker! Really enjoyed it but please don’t ask what any of the scenery was like as I think I just watched gaps and power reading for the whole race and reacted accordingly 😆

Another fun and engaging race!!! Thanks Jeff and Bryon carried the 46 mins group. Just couldn’t keep up when the paces was up at the last 3km…

the race definitely found its little groups of riders who were averaging a certain effort didn’t it! I’ve never felt 18 miles go by so quickly! Thanks for commenting

Thanks for sharing this report on the cycling challenge in Korea. Although some riders may have enjoyed the flat route, I personally prefer more challenging terrain. Nonetheless, I had my own mini race with ‘gingy‘ and ‘jjlento‘ at the back of the pack and managed to finish in 25th position. Congrats to all the riders who completed the challenge, and thanks to Muckers Worldwide for hosting the event!

Cheers for jumping on Kyle. I totally get this type of flat route isn’t for you and your set up , but we can’t have hill climbs all the time can we? 😉

This was a near laser level flat and a good warm up to the second ride. It didn’t wipe me out for the second ride. It looked like there was good teamwork ahead of me with riders broken up into a few separate groups staying together. Wish I could have caught up to one of them. 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️🚴 👨‍🦽

i feel you needed to really sprint at the start to hopefully get into a group on this ride Chris. to start at a normal pace then try and catch a group is impossible. i went with flat out, try and hang on, get dropped, then try and hang on to the next group that ate me up! It worked. ps, thanks for the comment Mucker!

Great fun as always, enjoyed riding in a mini peloton, plenty of drafting opportunities, think there were only a few seconds separating 10th to 15th, many thanks to Neil for organising.

Really thought i could hold onto your group but you are just too strong sometimes! superb effort Jeff and you’ve gotta admit it, it was a great way to get this flat and boring route done and actually have fun as well!! cheers for the comments and support.

this was not my evening: I had I very good start and found myself in the 46min group. After some minutes I got the info “low battery” from my laptop (I forgot to plug in the power cable). So I had to get off and plug in. Back on the bike I was 200m behind the group, with no hope to come back! Then I saw rouvy1bryon coming from the back pulling 4W/kg, so I waitet for him an in his draft I managed to get back in the group and felt very happy! Some minutes later I had a stomac issue forced me the visit the bathroom (was I too happy or too nervous?). After my second race brake I had a backlog of 600m of the group and the race was over for me. Managed to finish the route an ended 26th. Shit happend! Chers Tom
