MUCKERS 2026 MAY CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 4.
ROUTE AND RACE DETAILS:
QVRO4 Asque-Cietat | 15.92 miles | 2,484 ft. climbing
ROUVY SAY: The 4th in a series of Quellevue routes, forming a network of linked rides in the Pyrenean Barronies. We begin in the heart of the Barronies near the source of the river Arros. The farms and villages are from a bygone era, a forest climb to the Col des Pallomiéres and magnificent view of the Gers. Then dive into the valleys before heading North towards the tiny hilltop chapel at finish.
WE SAY: If it’s a challenge route…. then lets have at it!! nearly 2500ft of climbing in just under 16 miles puts this right into the clutches of those lightweight climbers so it will be very interesting to see who does well here…..

WHATS NEXT TO COME:
Remember you are more than welcome to come and race with us on any of our races even if the championships are of no interest to you. The more the merrier!! These championships are just here as extra motivation and fun ways to train.
Sunday Hill Climb (aka the Sunday hill climb championship)
Passo Stelvio from Prato | Italy | 15.35 miles | 6,073 ft. elevation.
Time for a big one, so we will do the climb that those of us who are “luckily” going to do it in real life in a few weeks time for this years Muckers Real World meet up!
So, not a challenge route, just some training and a chance to get a high climb in!
Search “Muckers Sunday” in the event search function on ROUVY to find all the scheduled climbs we have created so far. All start times included in the championship.
Tuesday Race Night (aka the w/kg training championship)
Lajes do Pico | Azores | 17.75 miles |1,457 ft. elevation
Beginning of the month so we are set for a nice and steady 2.0w/kg target! Hit the target, get the 10 points and you will more than likely be in a group of like minded riders, but remember, don’t ruin all your hard concentration with a 10w/kg final sprint!!!!!
Search “Muckers Tuesday” in the event search function on ROUVY to find all the scheduled races we have created so far at the 6 different start times. All start times included in the championship
Thursday Race Night (aka the world championship)
Porto | Portugal | 13.27 miles | 305 ft. elevation
1st race of the June leg and we all know the 1st race is the TT. And what a route to use. This will be a fast one and don’t forget, these are set up as non-draft so you can pick the TT bike if you wish!
Search “Muckers championship” in the event search function on ROUVY to find all the scheduled races we have created so far at the 7 different start times. All start times included in the championship
TO FINISH OFF:
i don’t mind saying this, but this has been a tough 4 weeks! Kudo to those of you who tried to race all 4 with us, we really do appreciate it as the more we have coming back week in / week out, the more competitive and ultimately, “fun”, this whole thing is.
Congrats to those that have won their category, those that came 2nd, well, next month is yours for the taking (unless the rider who’s dropped down to your category decides its game on as well lol)
Remember we only relegate a rider if we’ve had 4 or more riders do all 4 races in their category, and we only promote up from A9 if you have done all 4 races and are supplying hr data. If not, you stay in A9 till you are ready 😉
World Championship Blog will be done over the weekend so please keep an eye out for that over then next few days.
Thanks again to S.Ludford for the ongoing help and support with the spread sheets and just his invaluable support throughout all this. Without his help, this world championship would not have carried on as i still don’t fully understand all the ins and outs of how the spread sheet works, but i do hope to get there soon…….. Sunday and Tuesday spread sheets are easy (for me), but this one…OMG! But its spot on, i just don’t seem to have the mental capacity to be all over it…. especially after a race like tonight and all i want to do is sleep lol.
And yep, you guessed it, thank you to you all for racing with us and reading this blog, especially those that read to the very end. I honestly appreciate it so much.
Mucker1974

Tough race, 30 degrees in the spare room and the fans just felt like they were blowing extra warm air around! I totally bonked on Tuesday in similar conditions so i told myself to just settle into this one and control the heart rate, then see how i am later. So climbed the first climbs but kept the hr under 150 bpms, then for the 3rd part of the big climb, i finished it off with a 3.0 stint to the top. This seemed to be ok, and the next few climbs went the same way, climbing at around 2.8 then recovering on the downhills, but after the hour mark i was struggling, hr at 160, drenched and just about staying with “Toel” who was with me pretty much the whole way. Caught and passed stelvio who i did fear was going to catch me up later on, but i just managed to keep him safely behind till the end. really tough night, but kinda ok with my performance as this route / profile just wasn’t for me. But it was a nice route.
I have been quite interested in my category movement over the last few months. I lucked into promotion to A5 by basically being the only one to finish all 4 races in A6 in April, so this month i just got beat up in my category and in the GC against my usual rivals. I’m So happy Valrdz went for it this week so i got the auto relegation, but looking at my points this month, if I’d have been in A6, i would actually be getting a relegation to A7!!! .. that’s how bad I’ve done in May! So i need to really get my act together next month as unlike this month, i don’t want to get relegated and really hope to be more in the mix 🤞🤞🤞. But i still like that i was promoted, if anything, it makes you realize what your level is and who your real rivals are!
(Palbo) The field wasn’t very big, but the big dog climbers showed up. At the beginning of this month I thought today might just line up for an “A” race.
So, how did we do? I did start with a plan, be mellow at the start, and use the first of six categorized climbs to get the diesel engine going, at least as much diesel as an 81yo grimpeur could grimp. Stay smooth on climb #1, oh, there is Mike Hagen, Yumile, Wollie.D and then, near the top, srichards and macko. Over the top with those two very distinguished wheels. Would it work? Yes. Started climbs#2 and 3 with them. Originally I had planned to use these climbs to go hard and get established with a racing group to fight it out further down the course. But in fact, those two climbing dogs, and me, were the group. We rode hard, and opened gaps to those behind. My slightly modified plan was to stay with them through climbs 4 and 5 and then if body, heart, lungs and mind were available, to attack mid way up climb 6.
This is where I came to a fork in the road and the story takes on a different perspective. Nearing the top of climb 4 I was starting to distance Macko and srichards. Not a lot, but at the top I had 40-60 meters gap. Prudence suggested waiting to proceed down the green stuff, but 35+ years of IRL racing recognized the possibility. Attack! Now! The growing group behind would make up time on the green sections, but that late into the race I believed I could gain time on the on the two remaining climbs and the false flats.
And so it went. ITT time. Heart rate up to about 97% max. Survive the downs and smash the ups. Chasers Mike H, Wollie.d, Macko, srichards, yumile, grochang, Barttt. At the end I survived by 14 seconds. So, an “A” race for me? Maybe A-, but I sure didn’t leave anything out there.
Now what. I am going to get off the Thursday race CG tredmill for the summer. Six months ago I had no idea how much Mucker Thursdays and Sundays would improve my fitness and racing appetite. I had already accepted that 2025 would be the last outdoor racing in my life. But now I have signed up, payed good money, for some high mountain gravel races. There will be one in two weeks that starts with a 16 mile climb and 4000 feet of elevation. A good chance to see if Mucher Sundays are the real deal.
(Pablo)..oops, pressed something just a bit too early. I wish I could be there in Italy ,next month, but this local stuff will have to do. Have a super summer everyone. Be well and cheers.
That was intense. Lots of climbs, lots of descents, lots of chasing. I actually can’t remember much about the race, other than it was so fun! Some snippets: Got a pretty descent start, got to the front and saw MatthiasHeil doing his thing 50 m up. Drifted back out of the top 20 before the first climb. Did good climbing today. Am I one of Pablo’s big dog climbers? But he sure zipped by when he passed. Dropped the group I was with, reeled in Yumile (it took forever), but he glitched just as I caught him. Didn’t seem fair to drop him then, so I waited. I wanted a partner for the descents anyway! Wolli.d caught us and we made a good group. We caught some folk together: macko and srichards in particular. Pablo was a km and a half ahead at one point, then he was only 400 m. Yumile fell off the pace, it was me, wolli.d, and srichards onto the last climb. srichards attacked near the top, still a km to go! That was ballsy. Chasing, I did a hard pull to try to reel him in. Into the finish chute, wolli.d passed, now get his wheel and slingshot by them both–but I was gassed. wolli.d pipped srichards 0.6 second ahead of me. Great finish! Fun race! But let’s have some easier routes sometimes, huh?
I find it ironic (and a bit funny) that you were complaining a bit about the categories a lil while back, and now you are dominating A1. Would even be doing great in the Elite category.
Well done, Mike!
Tried to go all-in right from the start. Hit the first climb hard and tried to sustain it. My legs started cramping up 2 km from the finish, so at that point, it was just about survival. Fun race, though. The profile fits me absolutely perfectly.
Finally May is finished, 4 races very hard to ride, and I try to take the max in this month. 2/3 months that I play in A4, and to be onset, I fell well but I can’t aim for the top of 2 place, many big riders around me, but I find a good 3rd.
Now I need 2/3 day rest because my legs are definitely dead.
In this race I hold always a good pace on the hills not my best but that I have, 3.1 – 3.0 – 2.9 – and in the final 2.8.
In the last 3 hills I rode with a new name, but he don’t collaborated never, for 2 times I stopped also for pedal, but nothing, always behind…. I was tired and nervous… but this is the reality 🤷♂️.
I decide to hold a pace for not be catch by the group of Sunniva and 4WorldPace, hard work but also in solo version I finish the race in front and death. I hope in a June better, thanks to everyone who ride with me 👋💪🦈
Race after a week pause, so i was curious how it will be. I could stay in front group after initial steeper climb, then i was in second group when Baremi went into breakaway with koniekupe. I rather pushed moderately in descents too as there were strong riders behind. We caught koniekupe but lost Andrus.
Then i could not follow koniekupe and sylv30330 disappeared so it was solo ride suddenly. Tuden closed the gap strongly and i was caught and distanced few moments later by his 8wkg attack in the very last berg. This is a shame, because i lost podium, but it is as it is. Hard race in summer conditions, i liked that. Thank you all who joined us!
That was scary I started to glitch in the last km. Luckly it straighted out before the finish. Definitely not my terrain but it’s all good. I’m extending the length of time which I can stand. I need to work on the drivetrain. The chain skips too much. And yea I was on the wrong virtual bike, hilly not climbing. I can’t let any of this bother me, this is the time of the year that I need to focus on getting projects completed outside. Good weather and lots of daylight. See everyone next month.
The month of May was particularly disrupted. The weekends are starting to be quite busy, it’s hard to keep up on Rouvy. Especially in the last two races where the connection crashed each time at the time of the race start. For last week’s stage, it was impossible to catch up with the peloton; the stage was too flat.
I had bet everything on yesterday’s race to get back up in the standings. Fortunately, it was with climbs, and I was able to catch up with everyone on the first hill. But it was a terrible effort that affected me the whole race. It was still very nice to run with Ghostkiller, Duckman2 and Klinthomie. Although it was tough to hold the entire race and try sprints.
Finally, maybe it was a good thing for the other runners that I made a false start, otherwise I wouldn’t have run into them. XD
Otherwise, the course choices were really good this month because they were very varied to let everyone take the advantage on their own ground.
Let me honest, complete strangers and fellow Muckers: Not feeling great today. In fact, my mood has been so down I didn’t even feel like commenting and giving a report, as I usually and faithfully do … but, back up on the horse again! I am not getting any sleep these days, because of the *wonders of being a parent* to two small kids. And my weight has hit a plateau for the entirety of May which just … bums me out. I know this happens, and it will continue to happen, and it is probably also because of the lack of the sleep, but it just sucks when you are doing everything you can, doing so good, being consistent and then nothing happens.
But I guess something did happen. When it comes to racing, May has felt like I have taken a step up. Or two or three? I am definitely on another level than before my US trip. On a stage like the one yesterday, I could feel it. My stamina is greater, my heart rate can go into higher zones for extendes periods, but most importantly, I can feel the difference in how I am able to push through on climbs. It is night and day! Normally, I would struggle not to be in the bottom 10%.
Duckman2, Ghostkiller and ValRdz kept me company for most of the yesterday’s course. Normally these people would drop me on a hilly route, but I was able to keep up m. At the end, I felt cheeky qnd tried to drop them, but I dunno what it is with Val – I am never, ever, ever able to drop her. Once she catches you, she sticks like super glue (only to put in the dagger on the last climb). One day!
Anyways … what a brutal freaking race! I can honestly say that I left nothing out there and I am very proud of my performance.
Here comes June and here comes A5. I am excited.
I love the variation in routes, but I must admit, every week I pray for a flat(ter) route, haha. Thanks for the ride!
Also, Neil, how does relegation work? 4 races and not on the podium, and you get relegated. Or are there other factors that play in?
I went into this last race of the month with one thing in mind, to not get dropped from A6. I had a pretty good points lead on DanWren but, I didn’t want to let that change the way I rode. My goals were to finish the race below 1:05 and to be ahead or close to DanWren. I started strong and hit the first hill moving but, watch all the strong riders start passing me including DanWren. I knew I would get absorbed by sunniva and team before I crested but, just tried to get as much draft from the passers by as I could to extend it. I didn’t won’t to blow up on the first hill, so I just watch DanWren slip out of view. Oh well, it was a long race with lots of climb left so just keep working. I crested the first hill with sunniva, VilemStrakos, Josean67, and steven81 I think. We work together for the next 3 climbs. I had to really work hard to stay with the group early in but, started to feel stronger as the race progressed, plus I started seeing DanWren pop up every now and it looked like he was riding solo so maybe we could close the gap. Not sure which climb it was but, were passed by DonMatteo_07 and BikeandDogTrips and we caught flam.tap. flam.tap was able to ride away later on but, I felt pretty good on the 6th climb and so I attacked it hard and VilemStrakos came with me. We rode the rest of the race together until the last decent which I managed to pull away. All in all it was a good race and a good month for me. I didn’t crack the 1:05 goal but finished at 1:05:28 so close. I also stayed close enough to DanWren to stay in cat6, at least for June. It should be a competitive and fun month because sunniva, Muckers1974, and I will be in cat6 together again. Time to focus on TT now! See you all soon!!
