MUCKERS 7pm Tuesday Race Night. 25/04/23
Rouvy Route Used: Langkawi Malaysia – Kampung Mawar – Kamung Raja | 12.43 miles | 462 ft climbing
Route1 from the Tri Combination series | HARD challenge
26 registered | 16 finishers | 3 dnf | 7 dns
19 racers on the start line for this and quite a few of the regular Muckers races podium finishers not around tonight. I feel this will happen as we get closer and closer to the nicer weather and those who use ROUVY just as a winter training platform start to disappear. But for the rest of us who live in places that are just not sunny, or prefer to race indoors, or just don’t have the time for an full evening of getting out in the real world, then these Muckers races are going to be here for you throughout the year.
This is a very strange ROUVY challenge though. one route is the really long Taupo route then we have this , a relatively easy route in the same challenge under the “HARD” banner. A bit strange, but, a very interesting route and one that should provide good racing 🤞🤞🤞🤞
When I saw “karel_sousek” on the starting list, i had a feeling he could win this and that’s what he did! This very popular and well respected rider did a class job and finished well over a minute in front of the very strong French rider “pasjordi60” who claimed a very respectable silver almost 40 seconds in front of the bronze placed “rouvy1bryon” (who himself was the head of the train of riders all the way down to 10th that finished in the 31 minute bracket!)
4th, 5th and 6th came next and it was 2 muckers worldwide riders “Mick-Michel” and the returning “Svard” that got the first 2 positions, with “Pavelforltyn” coming home 6th.
Then just over 10 seconds later came a group of 5 riders to see how the final positions of the top 11 would end! 7th went to muckers worldwide rider “denny44” who had completed his first gran fondo of the year at the weekend and was racing with tired legs!! superb result especially as you had to close down the gap near the end of the race to get the chance for 7th. 8th was “26_GURE_Bikevans” who also worked with you to close down the gap, then came 2 more muckers worldwide riders in “SwissChris69” in 9th and “Mucker1974” in 10th.
All 16 finishers did this with an average speed higher than 18.5MPH And you all beat the 3 who quit. superb racing and thank you all for jumping on.
cheers.

10th!!!!! me!! now, granted, a lot of the regular top 10 riders seemed to be missing tonight but i do feel i raced strong and quite smart as I realized quite early into the race that “SwissChris69” was just as bit stronger than me but if i hung onto him, i might sneak a good result. So that’s what i did, i went deep into the red on the short uphill blasts, then tried to recover in his draft afterwards. looked like we were fighting for 8th but then you could see denny and bikevans were closing us down really fast. me and chris tried to up the pace but i think we realized they were coming so kinda backed off to conserve energy to have something left for the end. So 5 of us were together for the final sprint, but i was already nearly at full power just staying with them so when they kicked, i had nothing, but i was so determined to at least get into the top 10 that I emptied the tank just to keep lloydie behind! what a race! over in a flash but so good.
Okay, the first race in the evening. A flat course. So the idea was to pace at the beginning, find a group and then enjoy the drafting…
Worked quite well. The first riders were too fast, but it soon became clear that “Svard” and “Pavelfoltyn” are good partners. We had a good race in the group. Shortly before the finish line we rode side by side and I thought: let’s cross the finish line just like that. BUT, one of the other two guys – I don’t even know who – probably thought: finishing with a sprint is also very nice. So I pushed the pedals to the limit… 4th place.
Thanks to “Svard” and “Pavelfoltyn” for that fantastic group work. That was fun.
An anecdote: “Yesterday afternoon I said to my wife: A top ten finish in Mucker’s race would be nice. But illusory, the top riders are too strong”. Ooookay, as Neil said, the top riders weren’t there, but – hey – who cares? Mission accomplished 🙂
Thanks all.
Greetings Michael (Mick_Michel)
@Neil: The date in the headline is not correct 😉
hi, well done for a strong race, you’ve got to take your chances when you can so a top 10 is still a top 10!! I’ve sorted the headline date out, total misprint but thank you for pointing it out to me. Did you also notice you are in the image on this one? thanks again.
Yes, I have seen it. What an honour 😉
