MUCKERS EURO COAST RACE NIGHT. 10/08/23
ROUTED USED: NUSFJORD TO HAUKLAND BEACH | NORWAY | 17.78 MILES | 994 FT. CLIMBING
ROUTE 2 FROM THE EUROPEAN COASTLINES | MEDIUM CHALLENGE.
47 REGISTERED | 36 FINISHERS | 2 DNF | 9 DNS
Warm night ( finally ) in the U.K so wasn’t expecting a lot to jump on this as if its warm in the U.K, its got to be hot in Europe!! But to my surprise we had a great number registering throughout the day and it must be the added bonus that our races show up on the app as an upcoming event that we get a nice little increase in the last 5 to 10 minutes. The chat on the WhatsApp group after this one was how everyone tried so hard to do well and even getting PB’s on routes nowadays doesn’t guarantee you a top 10 anymore as is the level of competition showing up and making the muckers races so competitive. As per usual i only have you guys to thank for this so if you are reading this, thank you for the continued support!
Nice to see “hinsbergen” get a win tonight, but only just in front of the super strong “karel_sousek”! “Tuden” claimed the last spot on the podium but uncharactersistcly over 40seconds behind the leading duo. He was closely followed home by “JoseCostaRonda” who wasn’t in any trouble from behind in 4th.
Nice battle for 5th next with 2 strong French riders, “stephane-martin” just getting the better of countryman “pasjordi60” Really strong ride gentlemen!
7th comes Top Muckers Worldwide team rider “nielsbrynnum” who not only rode an amazingly strong race, he even finished in front of one of the usual podium contenders “nelsonsnyder” who claimed 8th. (i’ve got my fingers in my ears and shouting “i can’t hear you” if nelson tries to explain how he was helping someone……😂😆)
9th place came “orthostice” whos becoming quite a regular now, as is “stefan793” who rounds out the top 10 and gets that last mention!
Well done everyone tonight. Looking at a few of the Strava posts tonight, 99.9% of you got PB’s on this route as a lot of us would have done this earlier in the year in March when it was in a challenge back then.
cheers everybody and if you fancy leaving us a comment on how the race went from your perspective, please do as we all really do love hearing how it went as, is it just me who looks at all these other avatars and can’t help but wonder “why do they look like they are just cruising past me!!” 😉

So Happy I did all i could to stay with a group way stronger than myself at the beginning as when i finally bonked, i had to use everything just to keep shoffman, rogerstrainer and Lyndon65 as far behind from me as I could to still feel like they couldn’t launch an attack at some point! Sooooo glad they didn’t as i did not have an answer if they had!! Still got a PB by over a minute from my effort in March but i was dead at the line.
One of the few routes where I seem able to enjoy the view. Decided not to go ‘into the red’ at the beginning but slightly regretted missing the group containing DonJulio, Mucker1974 and uffzynda who were tantalisingly close. Then had to decide whether to lose more distance and wait for rogerstrainer and Lyndon65 or work with shoffmann who was riding strong. I chose shoffmann but gradually the shared pulls from my partner reduced as I assume he began to get tired and fell back. Seeing a chance to join Neil at the crest of the hill (midway point) I pressed hard and I could see he was also looking to team up at the same point, we then worked well for a few miles until the final hill, I could sense his power dropping towards the start of the last climb and a big drop in power was his signal for me to press on and try and ward off the fast approaching Pawiverse.com who seemed to be pulling 4w/kg continuously so I had no chance as he flew past like a train.
yeah, saw that guy coming as well and knew i had no chance to hold him off with the way i was feeling. glad you got the signal and at least had a go! We rode well mate and on another night, we probably could have closed the gap to the guys up front, just a poor night from me but it happens. 2 days rest now!
the day was hot under the roof of my house so I went to the shop an bought the biggest ventilator I could found. Did a 20km warm up while watching the women’s mtb short track: so i was ready at 8pm for the race!
Started well but not too fast and found myself at around 20th just 50m behind Chak. I tried to catch him on the top of the first climbs to work together on the downhill. I reached Chak but pulled also el Tractor with me, who did not work together with us. Tried several times to get rid of him but he was strong on the climbs. Denny44 and Andy_up managed to close up to our group and we reached the group of Matthias Heil. Denny and I attacked several times and finally I went away. Danny did not support el Tractor so the gap between me and the group increased. I ended 12th and more than 4min faster on this route than last time. Thanks Danny44 for the really good teamwork! cheers Tom
During the warm up I also watched the women WC MTB. No ambitions tonight. New plan. Let all the riders go and start from the last position. While passing riders I saw my mucker teammates but only andy wanted to follow me. He took my wheel and after a few km we were in a bigger group with Chak. In front of us was Tom and a few more riders. I used the climb to grab their wheel. That was really hard, I had to ride with 4.5 W/Kg and by reaching the top with 5.5 W/kg. Andy followed me, Chak was dropped. We finally reached the group with Tom, El Tractor, Matthias Heil. I wanted to reach the next group with Stephanie and nelson but not much support. Tom attacked and I let him go. Nobody wanted to follow him. A bit later I started my attack and could get to Toms wheel. El tractor was following and we were three. Tom started his next attack, El tractor wanted to follow but didn’t push to hard. When it was my turn I slowed him down and didn’t do any work in the front. Tom was gone and former group members got back to us. A few km later I used a climb to attack and got away. Nice ride and happy to help my muckers teammates Tom and Andy.
Had a day off from work, went to a BIG zoo. Walking and standing all day left me with painfull and tired legs so I wasn’t going to race. Wanted to stay with Mucker and Ludford, and maybe have some fun. Then Denny passed and all my plans got out of the window. Followed his wheel, even did some pulls. Ended up in a big group where I felt my legs signal it was enough for today. Let them go on the last hills. Still got a nice power average. Great fun!
I’m sorry, I couldn’t attend the Muckers Races last night because it was too hot to ride in the garage. Judging by the comments you guys wrote, it sounds like it was a challenging event. If I manage to get my internet fixed by Sunday, I’ll be able to participate then.
Haha, first race I enter and I’m already mentioned :). I didn’t cooperate since I already had a serious training in the morning. But it’s clear, I’m warned, Muckers got each others back :p
