Col de Joux Plane | France | 22.9 miles | 2,625 ft. climbing
From the Col Conqueror Challenge
It wouldn’t be a Muckers Championship if we didn’t use a tough route or two would it! 2600ft? On a School night?? what are we thinking!!! Well, we are thinking its gotta’ be hard to be classed as any kind of achievement don’t you think!?
SO how does ROUVY describe this route? “Famous for its role in the Tour de France, this climb is not for the faint-hearted. It features long, sustained gradients (up to 10%) and is often described as one of the most challenging ascents in the region. Keep a steady pace and conserve energy for the steepest sections.”
So, lets do our usual deductions once the last rider on the “Later-On” version finishes! They’ve been riding for 1 hour 45 as i type and still have 2 miles left. shouldn’t be long now and we can then hit the completed button and get on with seeing where we all are!
Its very simple to be included in the Muckers Championship. 1: don’t hit 5.0w/kg average (keep an eye on your stats as you race and back off if you have to!) 2: supply heart rate data (keeps everyone on at least some kind of level playing field!) and 3: please don’t be a male rider under 60kgs (you can be in real life, just leave your “ROUVY” weight at 60kgs!)
111 of you crazy lot finished this route over the 8 different time slots. 88 left after no hr data riders disqualified and 2 males removed for being well under 60kgs. so 86 riders get points today Well done!!

TOP 3 CAT. A5 RIDERS FROM THIS RACE: (3.2 – 3.4 W/KG)
Great race tonight and looks like Bareremi has this month sown up… its basically his to loose at the last race next week which is a big route! Partij to Epen is a 24 miler with 2700ft but at least next week its not all one long climb, this one will be frantic up and down all the way.
We have 2 riders in the top 10 as well who aren’t running with any ballast so we wonder will they be getting their first taste of it at the end of the month??
We also have some A8 and A9 riders in the top 50! will these guys get some world championship points?? consistency is really paying off now and the category races, especially in the midfield, are really close.
co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...
That was tough! tried to pace at around 3.0 up the climb and even though i hit some personal bests for that climb, it was still well outside the top 50! But over the hill i am with LP1969 and we work so well together we catch riders who were a good few miles up the road and who (in my head anyway) had laughed at me when they passed me on the initial climb 😂🤣. ok, maybe they didn’t, but it was great to catch them again later on and drop them straight away so they couldn’t jump on! (hey, it is race night!!)
Still just leading my category but Squalo is much stronger so i will have to be on my best form next week! As long as i do as good as i can, i think top 50 will be safe at least as 39th is pretty well in… as its over 70 points back to 50th so till have to be a disaster next week to fall out of the top 50…🤞🤞🤞🤞
At the end is a good performance for me also this type of route don’t like very much. When I find a long hills is always very difficult to ride. This time also the descent was not good for the brakes system, in fact should be improved to have a goods work. I work very well with my friend Gebe84, we try to work together to catch other in the second part of the race and recover on Chak and other. At the end I take some good points for the A7 table, but I’m always in second position…. Another battle in the 4th race 💪🤟🏻👋
I was the one being chased by your group and didn’t actually think I could make it to the finish line. I put all my energy into the last couple of km and managed to survive the hunt and come in ahead by only a couple of seconds. Exciting!
*Another* route with a hill at the start! Not my favorite; I’d much rather have the hill at the end. No rocket start, I was in the mid-high 30s soon after the gun. Noticed I was beside ValRdz at one point. Looked for Mucker1974, but Neil wasn’t nearby. Squalo_delle_Alpi, the shark of the Alps, was behind, and RaTim was ahead. I popped up to ride with him. Started up the climb, so much red, but found I was actually feeling pretty good. Upped the effort (why do I always do that) and hit the summit on Brampaulussen’s wheel. It was a good place to be. We hammered the descent, slingshoting off each other, sprinting out of all the corners, and put a gap of several hundred meters on Facciu and Juenger who’d been just behind us at the top. Even better, we’d halved the gap to akoval and the group just ahead of him. After the hill it was all Bram; I could barely hold his wheel. We smoked a couple of riders, but Andrii was hard to catch. Reeled him in finally with about 4 km to go, but Bram didn’t slow. The group ahead was still 30 seconds up, but we almost got them. I attacked on the last little hill with 1 km to go, more to give Bram and Andrii a slingshot to the group ahead than out of any idea of finishing ahead of them–that wasn’t going to happen. But it’s always nice to think you’re making the group ahead anxious; were Thomas-Lyhne, Ludwig, BigJon, and Alex nervously watching the Nearby list? Gotta hope so!
Is it really April or August? I was hoping for better conditions with cloudy sky outdoor, but with temperatures nearby tropic values these hopes were false. Hard course with big climb in the first half. I was soon dropped by Baremi, Nelson and Velobuch. Then joined with m-forby and later on with millony. I focused on sustainable pace in these conditions.
When we reached summit i dropped millony and continued solo in neverending descent section, like everyone else. This part was also tough, as i run out of water and other folks were nearby. Glad i could still finish in top5. Good racing still, thank you all who joined us!
