MUCKERS 2025 APRIL CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 4.

ROUTE AND RACE DETAILS:

Partij to Epen | Netherlands | 23.8 miles | 2,730 ft. climbing.

Proper route to finish this months Championship! Netherlands isn’t flat after-all, but even though this had alot of elevation, it never felt that you were ever on a climb that was massive (if that makes sense?) it was just up and down all the way. Anyway, lets see what ROUVY had to say about this route: “Ride a segment from the Amstel Gold Race is a tough and hilly one-day classic in the Netherlands, known for its relentless short climbs and twisting roads. Featuring ascents like the Cauberg, it demands explosive power and tactical precision, favouring punchy climbers and Classics specialists”.

Ok, the time is 10:05pm and i’ve just checked the LATER-ON race and no one is still on it so time to call this race over.

99 riders set a time today. That’s amazing on such a tough route. Now lets see how many get dsq’d. 85 riders still in after the no heart rate data riders have been removed, no one went over 5.0w/kg average and only 1 male rider was under 60kg so 84 riders getting points tonight.

TO FINISH OFF:

Well done Bareremi! Nearly 20 points in front of 2nd and running with 3.75% ballast! Lets see if you can do it again next month but you’ll now have 6.25% which is a big deficit.

Ballast will be added to this months top 10 in time for next months first race and we have 3 riders getting there first taste of it as well so will we see another 900+ points winner next month? and will we see 1 or 2 new riders getting there first lot of ballast again? I’m not sure on that one but you never know.

207 out of the 297 riders played by the rules this month. So remember, if you are in the top 100 leaderboard above, there’s another 107 riders who didn’t make it so well done to all 100 of you.

How did you do in your category championship? We learned a bit more this month about the categories and what happens when we set it at the first race but its all good data for next year.

We are really happy that no one got into the top 50 by only doing one race (which did happen a lot last year) Its close, but its something we really don’t want to see this year so lets see if the summer months play ball as well. Here’s hoping!

World Championship and Category championship leaderboards and blogs to be updated over the weekend.

Cheers everyone.

Very tough route! Had a great time though and pushed hard all the way to get into the top 50 on the road and eventually end up with some decent points in 53rd. Was fastest in my Category tonight and won it overall as well. Can’t really ask for more. Well done to all that got into the top 50 and top 5 in there categories. Bring on May!!!

Oh I couldn’t catch up with you, although I worked really hard to do it.
Please write me that you got tired at least a little while running away from me 🙂

Oh no, it was dead easy! 😂😉. Not al all!!! I’m always nervous when you are near me on a climb as you can go deep into the 3.0s and i just can’t! So if it wasn’t for the group i was with, i’d have never pulled away from you but i was constantly watching your gap, especially every time i hit a climb and you were on the downhill to the same climb and the gap just dropping and dropping. The closest i saw you get was about 250ft, then the next one it was over 400ft, so i knew i was “just” pulling away from bit by bit.

I am always more determined to beat you on a week night as you always smash me to pieces on a Sunday. Sorry…. lol

Well, as Neil saw, this route was one that was “favoring punchy climbers”. I am not a punchy climber. It was a tough route, but it was fun! Couldn’t get on with the lead group of 25, but with the first punchy climb coming soon, that probably wouldn’t matter. Up the first climb, and I ended up with Yumile and Stu (bikeanddogtrips). We got a good thing going, zipped by macko (not having a good day?), and reeled in several riders dropped from the groups ahead including stfmgr_65, Sublac_72, and Doges. But Thomas_Lyhne, soloing from behind, caught the bunch of us. Pretty impressive. The uphill finish broke us all up, as it did the entire field. Not an easy route at all. Almost 12 hours later now and I’m still bagged. Kudos to all that finished!

To be honest I wasn’t looking forward to this ride, due to the amount of climbing, being a heavier rider, but with the chat before hand Steven Ludford, had agreed to cycle with me. The climbs weren’t as bad as I thought, and it was a great incentive to follow Steven’s wheel, and you were able to recover on the long descents, we eventually caught up with Stelviobound, and Tom Rieger. The last last climb as agreed my chaperone shot of into the distance, and I limped home. Really was great fun, many thanks to Neil for organising, and can we have some flatter routes in the future 😉

mucker, we have all types of route on Muckers Races. If you came to them all, you’d see that 😉. these routes that are lots of smaller climbs, but add up to a lot of elevation are some of the best routes to ride as like you say, you can hold decent power up knowing you can recover on the downhills. They make a better race route than a straight up climb to 2700ft that’s for defernite! Well done Mucker and thanks for jumping in the comments.

was a nice but very though route this small “amstel gold race”. Started a bit too fast and had to pay tribute for this at the last climb where I was overtaken by Ste and Jeff. congrats to all finishers

Been a while mucker! But glad you pop on when you can. Tough route this one and it just ate away at your power reserves with every climb! Thanks for jumping on the comments.

I like such rolling climbs and descents. Anything can happen here and you never know how such a race will end. On the first longer descent Neil dropped me and I had a choice to chase him or wait for LinV. I chose to chase because I know LinV is strong and could easily beat me. Consequently, a large part of the route I had to work alone. It was a real effort for me but very enjoyable.

    • Neil Rushby says:

Well done, i could see and feel the effort right behind me in my nearby list and was only getting away from you because i was in a group of 2 to 5 riders at a time.

I enjoy a different approach on Thursdays and take a steady start hoping to encourage enough riders to share a controlled effort from start to finish … Jeff65 and myself were joined by a few riders at various stages throughout this race, much appreciated … and I got to enjoy a nice blast up that final climb with a new personal 5 minute power record.

Party in Partij to Epen. I have no idea what does that name mean, but i had idea how this race will be. Solid legs despite no rest day after recent mix of outdoor rides combined with Rouvy races. Very challenging course, group all together over first and second climb. Then first selection and we stayed six.

I thought im the weakest chain here and it turned out be true. I dont like this race style when no one pedal in descent and then goes all out in climbs, but not much todo with that. I left group when Brian attacked and continued my pace. Velobuch was also dropped and we joined, challenging Premek who was not far from us.

There was also strong group behind with few folks. I tried to work consistently so it was hard stick with my partner in climbs. We reached final climb, not catching Premek, but also not being caught. Tight uphill sprint finish, which i lost, but im happy as i gave it all. Thank you all who joined us!

We try and vary the routes as much as we can over the month so no one gets favored for all 4 races. this is why some of this months could have easily been included in a Sunday hill climb, but these Hilly routes are usually the best race routes.

Thanks for joining us and for commenting.
