MUCKERS 2025 DECEMBER CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 1.

ROUTE AND RACE DETAILS:

Passo Gardena from Corvara | 7.56 miles | 1,942 ft. of climbing.

ROUVY SAYS: This iconic Dolomite climb winds through alpine meadows and towering limestone peaks. With sweeping switchbacks and expansive views, Passo Gardena offers a steady ascent and a dramatic backdrop—perfect for riders chasing beauty as much as altitude.

WE SAY: 1st race!! Gotta get some base points in! So shut up legs and get me to the top of here as fast as possible! 😏. This was a really nice and picturesque climb from the Featherweight Five which has been a really nice challenge, and if you rode with us for the last few weeks, you would have completed it as well tonight and managed to bag the SWI Leve Bike bike as well.

It’s five to nine, so it time to go and see if anyone’s still on the last race…It’s clear, no riders anywhere!. So lets close this down and see how well you all did! 149 of you climbed up the Passo Gardena with the Muckers so now lets see how many of you stuck to the rules… oh no, just received word from NITEOR that stats might not be retrievable tonight but might be available tomorrow… But i like to get the blog done tonight so its still fresh in the mid of you all….. what to do… what to do 😂😂. Ok, lets give everyone a free pass tonight and no rules imposed and i can’t even relearn the categories… interesting…. So you might be in a different cat next week, but at least we can see if it does change a lot or not… if you get what i mean… ok. lets crack on

TO FINISH OFF:

Oh wow!! Some riders are clearly not in the right categories which just goes to show that hitting the relearn every race really does work. We will definitely see some changes next week!

Also, did you notice not one rider in the top 100 below 3.0w/kg!! NOT ONE!! now i know we didn’t delete anyone tonight but how do we attract so many strong riders! i don’t think I’ve seen so many 3.0s in a top 100 in a long time, and it’s also nice to see no silly +5.0s as well. But interesting to see how it all looks without any rules applied isn’t it.

So the last month is finally here. For those that don’t know, we had to make a decision on what to do for the final race as it landed exactly on Xmas day. So we thought, why not a 10 mile TT route? Ste Ludford had suggested a while back to use their Farnham Road Club TT route when i next thought it would fit in and we feel its a great way to end the championship. So we spent some time the other day scheduling it and we went with 3 days (24th, 25th, 26th of December) and at our revised start times and names for 2026. Don’t worry, nothing too drastic, just some new names so we/I know exactly when they are and some time slots either removed or blended together. I’ll explain below but for the last race of December, we just won’t be doing the “Recon” time slot over the 3 days.

So for Next year, we will still be doing the non draft “Recon” on Wednesdays at 19:30 UK (all times are UK GMT) then we stick with the 2LATE4ME at 23:30 on the Wednesday too, then the Thursday Schedule is: 05:30 2EARLY4ME (this is a new time as I’ve removed the 04:30 & 06:30 due to a year of low numbers and made this one slot instead). 09:30 RISE&RIDE (no change). 12:30 (same time slot, but now called “Noon” instead of “early-on”). 15:30 (same time slot but now called “Brunch” instead of “Bit-Later”) and then the Main race at 18:30 but this will also be the last race due to needing to get onto the blog earlier as these late nights are killing me as we wait for the “Later-on” race to finish so we can crack on. This “later-on” has been removed for 2026, but we’ve moved it to the day before and called it “Recon”.

Tuesdays will pretty Much be the same apart from no Recon version and the main race will stick to our normal Tuesday time of 19:05. All this and the above will be explained in a separate blog at some point between now and the start of Next year as well.

Oh…. while we are on the Subject of next year, We will be starting the championship in January! We only had January off this Year due to being part of the OMG series, but that’s not happening so we can kick on in January. But as it falls on New Years Day, and we have already reported we will be doing a TT as our first race every month anyway next year, we will schedule the first round to take place on the 1st and the 2nd of January at our new time slots and then go back to Normal from then onwards. Also if you fancy having January off, then that’s totally do-able As the world championship will be based on your best 10 months out of 12. (This Year was best 10 of 11)

Sorry guys, I’ve pretty much over-explained how I’ve made it simpler to understand next year.. at least I’m consistent and you know this isn’t A.I generated (add emoji here)

Please remember that if you want to help us keep this thing going to pop over to the shop and maybe buy an item or 2. We only use the profits from the merch to keep this site alive so if you can help us do that then that would be amazing, plus you get some rare and decent merch to show support as well! Also, not much time left if you want to get anything delivered before xmas… just saying….😏

That’s it for tonight. Thank you all for the support and reading the blog, especially those who read all the way to the end

So basically a 2.91 average doesn’t get me into the top 100???? I was pretty much on it all the way as well…. I’m gonna put it down to 50 riders in front of me didn’t have hr data, or were all 30 kgs lol.. But never mind, this race tonight reminded me of our old saying that if you have the right people around you, you will have a race on your hands! And i did!

Got to the base of the climb in the main pack of around 60 riders, then i settled into 3.0s with the lightweight bike and the lightweight wheels… now I’m gonna smash it up this climb and overtake loads!!! erm. No! i was around 55th at the base, and even though the same 2 were always up front , i got caught and passed by a few till i was around 65th place and got into a really good trio with UnlceE64 and barttt and this group kept me fully engaged all the way. Uncle got a bit of a gap and i gapped barttt but i was always trying to pace till i got to about 70ft from the top then i would knock it up a few gears and grind up and over the top whilst emptying the tank. 70ft came just as barttt re caught me and i went, passed Uncle and was dying over the top but had to keep momentum going otherwise he’d have me on the downhill down to my climbing gear set! It worked, and i nearly caught the rider just ahead on the downhill but i was just 0.1 second behind at the line.

That was a pure love-hate race for sure but like we say, have 1 or 2 riders around you trying there hardest as well and you have yourself a race! cheers!

Re: your last comment. I was alone for a good 20-25 minutes and it was pure misery, let me tell you!

Good to know I wasn’t the only one struggling 🙂

      • Neil Rushby says:

hey, i also have “at least i get the challenge credit” going over and over in my head when i do hit a wall or start to struggle. Tonight was just “do everything to stay with these guys and lets have’em at the top” lol

        • UncleE64 says:

Gotta say that the great non-climber that i am was pretty happy to sustain 3.0 this time. Neil blew by me near the top and all I could was wave! Nice job Mucker Master. Saw the Shark at the base of the climb but didn’t have a chance in hell to stay with him. Is it just me getting older and slower or is he getting stronger every month? Kudos Sharky – my Italian wife says you’re taking your revenge for me actually beating you one month and that the payback won’t stop until niter finally deems to promote you to A5. Cheers!

          • Manuel Lamber SHARK says:

Your wife is very wise 🤣, I see you and I’m very happy when we ride together… our A6 it’s a very battle Cat, if in the future I’m able to go in A5 will be more stronger but I’m ready to battle also there 😉💪👋

        • Klinthomie says:

But Neil! Oh my god – I have been doing the Featherweight Five for the past two weeks, and it’s been a real pain for a heavy dude like me to do and I got to 3/5 on monday, then I realized that our tuesday and thursday race would be 2 of the climbs that I had already checked off.

Hahahaha! I was trying not to be bitter, as it was my own mistake, but man.

          • Neil Rushby says:

yeah dude that sucks. Just try and remember 99.9% of the Muckers races will be challenge routes and if i do my job right, i will have them all scheduled somewhere in my Tuesday, Thursday or Sundays slots before the challenge starts. 🤞🤞

  2. Klinthomie says:

What a brutal climb! Haha! I was desperately trying not the end up as the lanterne rouge. Got me a 79 out of 92 in the thursday night race, landed even further back in total – oh well! But hey, I beat my own PR with over 10 minutes and I am satisfied with my effort. I mean … it’s not like I was sitting holding back on any extra juice in the legs on that climb anyways.

I have a question: I was A9 last week, now I am A6. How do the categories work? Sorry if this information is available somewhere, I am still trying to understand and grasp everything.

As always, thank you all for the ride – it was fun seeing you speed past me 🙂

    • Klinthomie says:

Ah wait – the categories are messed up because of NITEOR?

      • Neil Rushby says:

not messed up exactly, just not re-learned so its going off some past rides and also other data, but not todays data. I’ve been told the more i hit the relearn button after my races, the more it will get everyone’s categories as close to what they should be as possible. I just couldn’t do it tonight.

  3. Slyfly says:

Yes, the races are really getting more demanding, or maybe I’m just getting worse, that’s also a possibility 😉
3.1W/kg and 97th place. I was lucky to get under 100. My maximum heart rate this time was 175 bpm. Normally it’s around 170. Maybe because I took a four-day break from racing, or maybe it was because of the two strong women, Vero-R and ValRdz… 😉 They caught me in the last few kilometers of the climb and then put in a tough
    race. 🥵
It was a really great performance from Vero-R and ValRdz, two strong riders 💪👍
    Greetings, Slyfly

You folks will not SEE me again in 2025, after this Sunday. Next week having cataract surgery. Then hopefully I will SEE those nasty tree roots on the singletrack in the forest, and also actually be able to read your avatar names and w/kg during the races.
A few times I have tried to be funny and say that I am racing “eyeballs out”. Apparently if I do any HIIT too soon after the surgery, the eyeballs might do that in real life. So, my plan for December will be to take life pianissimo for the month..enjoying my new Mucker full zip hoody, feet up by the fireplace, eating and drinking lots of tasty things to put some meat on my bones, enjoy the 14 grandchildren, and things like than (and maybe check in on my Mucker friends to see how much you are suffering. Then hopefully in January the training can begin again and then on the starting line for February.
Just one maybe complaint Neil. If I had been designing this race the finish line would have been right at the top of the hill. I think I was there with Madien, DocPS, maniacm3, groshong, Kariann, macko, ThomasLyhn, Dave12, EddieDomino…..and then , maybe they did it with mirrors, I got gapped some how and was smoked. Make be Santa will bring me a 53 chainring. Is that something the Mucker store might sell?
It was great for me to meet so many new friends. All the best for the holidays, and hope to see everyone in the new year……cheers

    • UncleE64 says:

Wishing you a speedy recovery, perfect vision, and a joyous holiday. Cheers

    • Neil Rushby says:

hey Paul, im also not a fan of the climbs that have a short downhill on the other side. i’d rather they just finished at the peak as well but i have no control over the recordings, i just puck the route.

Wishing you a speedy surgery and even speedier recovery Mucker. All the best to you and your family and SEE you next year!

  5. Mike Hagen says:

What an awesome race for me! Really good start and I’m at the front. Maybe everyone is taking it easy because the climb will sort everyone out. Except for MatthiasHeil: he’s doing his trick 10 – 12 m up. Nice to see that! Onto the climb and I’m thinking it’s my sweet-spot, 7% for about half an hour. I’m with RaTim, Svard, and akoval. RaTim is smashing it. So am I. Haven’t ridden with Svard and akoval for awhile! We’re catching folk usually comfortably ahead of me: KonaBleit, chorus, and Sublac72 among them. nielsbrynnum even does a cameo on my Nearby list; been awhile since that has happened. It’s so fun holding 3.7 W/kg, even if my HR is redlining in zone 7. I’m enroute to a year’s best 30 minute W and a new 90-day FTP by 13 watts. But what’s this? Kin_Kwan is motoring, catches up, and passes! WTF! He’s gapped me at the top, but I catch him on the downhill, so does Sublac72. Into a downhill sprint finish and apparently I’m pretty good at that as I get it. Whoo! Such a fun race.

  6. Paul bateman says:

That was a cool route. I think Tuesday night was beneficial this week. It got me physically and mentally tuned in for a decent climb.

  7. Hans HM says:

Nice to be back in the championship after a one-month break. Difficult not to be inspired ‘riding in’ the Dolomites – even though Gardena is by far one of the easiest of the climbs around Canazei – so treated it like a 30 minute TT and went full gas from the start – a short period of resettling after dropping from the front and then basically in the wheel of koniekupe for the last 2 km of Gardena trying to catch Morten and keeping a distance to Laurent. Now for all to experience real suffering it really must be time for a Muckers Thursday Championship Race on Passo Fedaia FROM CAPRILE, Neil!

  8. Mr Steven Ludford says:

Feeling very fatigued after a lot of recent big climbs. No fast start, just drafted and freewheeled down that hill before joining up with Sunniva, batbuilder and my FRC teammate Gunnera. Average was 2.9w/kg and I always had the feeling it was slightly too high, ReginaL came into view and I made the decision to back off once we made the catch and exchanged ‘kudos’. Probably didn’t help that I have increased my weight to 101kg on Rouvy (99kg for me + 2kg to replicate my real life water bottles and tools) … I love a disadvantage 😂.

Apologies to the people who have sent me Rouvy friend requests recently, I can’t accept unfortunately as I use my friends list exclusively for Farnham Road Club riders to operate and retrieve our Winter Championship Race Results in Rouvy. You can find me on Strava where I am happy to follow/be followed.

  9. Ludwig db says:

That was a tough ride. I’d started well and was in 19th position when my chain wouldn’t go down to the small chainring… I thought I’d give the derailleur a push myself… That worked, but it pushed my chain past the chainring, so I slid down to 45th position and wanted to catch up with my Muckers mates Mike and Ratim, which I managed, but it took too much energy, so I couldn’t keep up the pace on the steeper sections and dropped further down to 49th place… Let’s hope this can be rectified next week with a strong ride. We’re looking forward to it… see you next week!

  10. Karel Sousek says:

Festive season started, can’t join main race tomorrow, so let’s do Muckers in recon time trial slot. It took me over ten minutes to restart engine again after long Mamiky race earlier, but two riders in front kept me motivated. One dsq later on, but i closed gap to both in second half. Decent effort, however too late catch them. Thank you all who joined us!

  11. Manuel Lamber SHARK says:

This week start all mountain race… after 3 days of hills I’m very worried for me legs and for ride a good first race Champ. I don’t know which type of wheels to use, and at the end choose the biturbo…. Good start and I arrive in good position at the base of yellow sector… but I know… now start the real race. I try and do a good pace, I must use a big concentration if I want to do something good.
I work with stadler, I use his wheels and also try to put me in front many times…because it’s more stronger of my, I must try always to push…🤷‍♂️
I see many mates, and slowly slowly the shark coming… I work also with MNHROUVY, I see he don’t have spedy wheels and when I finish the last m of hill, I start to shoot the last power inside me… at the end a very big effort for only a 74th position… too strong this Group but I loved.
See you the next event, thanks to everyone ride with me 👋💪🦈

  12. Sunniva says:

I had internet problems 5 minutes before the start, and I thought I wouldn’t be able to set off, but I made it. Except I didn’t have time to swap my racer set for a climber set. Really hard work (2,9 W/kg) and I ended up outside the top 100. I don’t like that 🙂 but at least I was in good company, thank you Muckers.

    • Neil Rushby says:

i’ve looked at the segment time on ROUVY for the climb and i actually did really well up that which was a shock! maybe 2000ft is a good height for me lol i went lightweight bike and wheels and steady 3.0 all the way.

Looks like around 17/18 riders in front of us would have been removed for NO HR data but i can’t implement it this week as I’ve already said i wouldn’t in the blog, plus a lot of data is missing for riders just outside the top 100. We will smash it next week!!!

    • paul bernstein says:

      You are one tough warrior.!!

      • Sunniva says:

Thank you, Paul. I’m a little envious of your fitness, in a positive way, of course 😁
I wish you good health. See you at the Muckers races.

  13. Neil Rushby says:

Some stats have started to filter through on NITEOR plus TisjVs result needed to come over as well. TisjV wasn’t a problem and that’s now added, but there’s still quite a bit of data missing from some so I’m definitely sticking with leaving messing around with it this week, but i hope it will all be good for next weeks race.
