MUCKERS 2025 JULY CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 2.

ROUTE AND RACE DETAILS:

Attersee West | Austria | 14.73 miles | 751 ft. climbing.

Now the fun races start! Got the hill climb over and done with on race 1 so off for a short(ish) 14.7 miler with only 751 ft. of climbing which apart from a long climb start, the rest are those short kickers with various degrees of length.

Very hot in the UK and across Europe so we aren’t holding out for a massive number of riders but lets see 🤞🤞🤞🤞. 29 riders had set some very good times before the start of the main race. The main race had over 50 turn up as well so it was up to the main race to set the best times due to the amount of draft available on this type of route. We really wish there was something we could do for those in the other time slots to help them be more competitive but we just can’t do it, so it really is up to those riders who use them slots to try and get more on it and then try to work together to set as good a time as possible. If 3 or 4 of you are of the same mind-set, you will do better if you work together in these less full time zones, but that’s also really hard to organize. But if something comes up that’s easy to implement for next year we will try it.

ok, its 9:30pm so lets get things finalized. Yep, no ones left racing on the last 2 races so lets hit the completed button. 98 set a time before we apply our 3 rules. 70 riders left. Most were lack of heart rate but 1 was over 5.0w/kg average and another was male weight below 60kgs.

TO FINISH OFF:

Another great race tonight and some interesting developments in the top 10. We still have 4 riders who aren’t carrying any ballast so will they stay up there and join the most exclusive club on ROUVY?? 😉. Even though we are still getting some great turn outs, being consistent and finishing all 4 races this month will give you a great chance to get top 50!

“STADLER-TONI” we really need you to adjust your figures in your stats on NITEOR. Because you didn’t do the first race this month, you’ve missed the category “set” that we do after the first race so NITEOR uses the stats you put in to your profile. You are clearly not an A8 cat rider and i can’t change it without changing everyone’s as well. hope you see this message as i won’t be including you in the A8 leaderboard this month as its really not your category.

This has happened a few times this year as we are learning more and more about the categories. This discrepancy is why you can’t rely on riders to look after there own stats. I feel quite confident in the way i want to use categories next year now i have been using them for the last 6 months but I’d rather reveal this when we reveal the rules, regs and points structure before the 2026 season starts. No point announcing something now, only for something to crop up in the next 4 or 5 months that we’d not accounted for. But i am 99.9% sure now how to use them for bonus points, but lets see if anything pops up to change my mind.

Before i forget, i don’t know if you see our Facebook page but we did ask the question on ROUVYS Facebook page about how we felt 60+ was a very old fashioned way to set the last age category. We set out our thoughts and reasons and we had a reply from Lauren from ROUVY saying “they are incorporating extra age categories over the age of 60 this year, its a work in progress but its on its way” We think this is awesome news and long over due.

ok, that’s a wrap. Thanks for the support, means a lot and thanks for reading the blog all the way to here….

I had a really good race on this route. Probably over thought it during the day, but after watching bits of the earlier races, i worked out the start climb was too long for my usual flat out start and the middle kicker and last kicker was gonna be tough so to save some energy for them. I actually set off quite steady and when i got to the top, i was in the 40s but feeling ready to crack on! luckily got into a rapid pack and we just steamed along, whilst all along i was waiting for those “red” kickers. Bossed them all and even though the last one was the worst one that burned all my matches, i was able to draft to the line and finish a nice 31st on my screen. This has now got me nicely into the top 50 and into 3rd in my category. Ready for next week now!!

Hi Neil – I was in the group in front of you with RaTim (where no one wanted to work – including me!) when you motored up to us near the end. At least I think that’s when you joined – I’m riding with just a phone for visuals and the UI blown all the way up, so I only see 3-4 riders “near” me in the little graphic on the left. Anyway, I couldn’t stay with RaTim when he turned it on over the last kickr (see his post below) but thoroughly enjoyed the fight to the finish with you, Chak, and Duckman2, I took full advantage of the fact that you’d worked all race (while I drafted) to nip you at the end. I’m sure I’ll pay for this in week 3! Gotta say, I wish I could have pushed just a TINY bit more at the end to pass Duckman2 and Chak who are MUCH better climbers than I, so this was a rare opportunity for me to finish higher among the 60+ group.. They got me by .15 and .09 seconds – well done guys! I hope no one takes this the wrong way, but none of us are known for our sprints – it would have been interesting to see how much faster the top guys did the last 200m vs the 4 of us.

      • Neil Rushby says:

Hey Eric, thanks for commenting. I’ve done my research from the clues and I’m 99.9% sure you are UncleE64??

I’ve used the phone in the past as well on a few occasions and it was the lack of info on the nearby list that i found to be the worst aspect for using it, but it is what it is sometimes and you just have to deal with it.

The pack i was in rapid! you just get lucky sometimes and then do everything you can to hold on and not get spat out the back. If this means strategically placing yourself in the right place in the draft, then so be it, its a race! Many a time I’ve had a rapid start, ended up as a duo then seen seen the train coming and i am usually quick to decide that ill back off and join the train rather than carry out a pointless attempt at trying to keep a gap, especially if its a hilly route as i always get swallowed up on the climbs if they are just a touch too long lol Better to get into the train sooner while i am still fresh, than trying to jump on three quarters of the way along and totally fatigued!

This is what i love about these comments after a race. how people see it from there point of view. We are all somewhere in the world, more than likely in a room or garage on our own, yet we are well engrossed in what’s happening on screen! And, with riders we are starting to get to know! its awesome!

  2. Tomáš Hloušek (RaTim) says:

It was very hard race for me. Not my favourite profile and with tired legs from my endurance week and afternoon climbing. But finally it was better than I expected. I was in perfect group and even got infront but after we lost Bill nobody wanted to cooperate so we regroup again. At the end I tried long sprint over last kickr and nearly died. On Rouvy I won the sprint on Niteor not (in same time) 🤷. At the end I’m fully satisfied with result. Nice race with lot of friends around.

    • Eric Holterman says:

Hi Thomas – gotta say that while none of us were volunteering to pull much, I was enjoying just “being there” with you and the other guys and very much appreciated being in such a solid group. Maybe next time I’ll pull a littler more. Maybe 😉

      • Tomáš Hloušek says:

Hi Eric, we will see next time, maybe. But none of race is same as another one. Even in same group I can pull and other day I’m happy that I can hang in draft…

    • Neil Rushby says:

Hi Mucker, thanks for commenting. We can’t even blame the extra decimal place that NITEOR use compared to the just 1 decimal place that ROUVY use for the difference in placing between you and Bullet81, as even by 2 decimal places the times were identical. unfortunately it just seems if this is the case, NITEOR uses the good old fashioned alphabetical order!

hope this is ok and doesn’t affect your placing at the end of the month!

  3. Manuel Lamber SHARK says:

I risk to ride with a different gear cassette this time after a double good try on last Tuesday.
I work good and also find a great group, in the 3 or 4th kicker I have a little ghost problem and lost some name and some mt at the end. Unfortunately for my opinion also with a change cassette, in downhill there are many different rolles that give more power or velocity and for me it’s always difficult to close the gap….
When I catch Pan.Rorisi, I thinked perfect, now we push to re group in front, but he’s not at the top of form and therefore we rode good but my race e with directly opponents was finished 🤷‍♂️
See you to the next 💪🦈

    • Neil Rushby says:

cheers sharky! glad i was able to close the gap to you in our battle for the category but i think first place is UncleE64s to loose now!! but we will put the pressure on for the next 2 races!!

  4. Hans HM says:

Flat route with a lot of kickers that gradually decreased the front group. I consider myself more of a diesel climber and normally prefer the big w/kg climbing routes but managed to hang on to the final sprint and among other fast riders surprisingly beat Henrik ‘Tuden’ Jørgensen in a photo finish sprint. Was rather pleased with that until I was told by ‘Tuden’ that he had been racing on a Rouvy bike with disc wheels and done 5.2 w/kg average just in order to hang on to the group. No wonder he was tired, but at least he got an impressively good workout 😂
But I guess we all did cause the race was really fast and a lot more anaerobic than normally – so thanx for another fun race guys … and enjoy the summer 👍🏻

    • Neil Rushby says:

Hey Hans, thanks for jumping into the comments as its always great to hear how things go at the sharp end! I really do try and mix the championship races up as best i can with the challenge routes available to try and stop it favoring one type of rider over another, but you have to admit, these short and kicker climb routes can be a lot of fun!

Shame about Tudens effort as his power figure to keep with you all meant he exceeded out 5.0w/kg average ceiling so got a DSQ in this race! But like you said, he definitely got a great workout!!

  5. Steven Ludford says:

Joined a big group over the first lump but the pace was too hot, like the weather 🥵. I knew I had to ease off and luckily Sunniva had a similar idea and waited so we could team up. From that point forward we were in a great race, we were never going to catch anyone ahead but could two riders hold off four riders working together 0.2 miles behind us. With bikeanddogtrips in the group they were always catching, I punched up the short kickers and then tried to catch my breath back in the draft on the flats. Just as it looked like we would be swamped the final kickers seemed to break up the chasing group and we managed to limit the catch to the stronger rider bikeanddogtrips. Once again, both physically and mentally stimulating, great racing.

    • Neil Rushby says:

Hi Ste, was hoping you’d be here as this had “FRC” type race written all over it! We were in a great group but i was surprised when you got dropped and all i though was “oh crap, I’m in the wrong group here!!” but…. lets see! its my kinda route and i might survive,

sounds like you had a great race anyway and hopefully see you at the next one!

  6. Sunniva says:

Even though I tried my best to stay with my group, I got dropped on one of the climbs. Luckily, I saw Steven on my nearby list and decided to put all my strength into staying with him 🙂 Bikeanddogtrips passed us at the end like a fast wind, raising my heart rate because I really didn’t want to be overtaken in the final meters. But hey, Stu is just fast and strong, and I have to respect that 🙂
It was a really good race, thank you all.
Training effect: aerobic 3,9/5,0; anaerobic 3,0/5,0; IF: 1,011

    • Neil Rushby says:

Well done Sunniva and thanks for jumping into the comments. Sounds like you and Ste did everything to try and hold them off but Stu was definitely out of place so if he’s ever in our nearby list he’s gonna catch!

  7. paul bernstein says:

So, I guess that if you spend huge gobs of time putting these events it is only fair that you get to pick the courses…looking at you Mucker 1974,,,,lol….sporting of you to have one race this month that actually went uphill. Pretty soon are we to have only races that go straight downhill? I am going to have to put rocks in my water bottles. Today I spent a moment enjoying being in a group of new Mucker friends, and the next moment all 8 gapped me, never to be seen again. I am preparing to do some off the grid in the mountain gravel events, but Thursdays will hopefully be Mucker day for me. Cheeers

    • Neil Rushby says:

Wow Paul! “huge gobs of time” !! what a saying mucker!! 😂. I honestly try and pick the most varied 4 routes i can from the challenges available for every month. my perfect month is uphill, downhill or sprint, a long one and then a proper mixed one about 20-25 miles and over 2000ft. But i am limited by what ROUVY release as its our USP that we have always tried to use challenge routes as this then helps those who are a bit nervous to try racing to at least give it a go and if its not for them, well, at least they got the challenge route ticked off so wasn’t a wasted ride. Glad to hear your gonna join us more!

good luck with the events and let us know how they go!

  8. Karel Soušek says:

Strong field over punchy profile, that is typical Muckers race. Knowing i miss short power peaks i focused to stay in main group, which got smaller and smaller over time. Repeated attacks over climbs, but we were all directed to the final sprint. I left too heavy gears for final bump, which probably cost me few positions, on the other hand it was precisely that short power peak. All in all exciting and hard race, thank you all who joined us!

    • Neil Rushby says:

cheers Karel, strange how you say typical Muckers race when i feel i don’t do enough of these as i love them! 😂😂. Also, really doesn’t look like the Ballast you are carrying is ruining your top 10 GC placing….so you need some more i think.😉……. (But it is nice seeing that no one is running away with it every week and its not a given who’s going to win the month!)
