MUCKERS 2025 JULY CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 3.

ROUTE AND RACE DETAILS:

Boulogne sur Mer | France | 14.09 miles | 1,178 ft. climbing

This was the closest challenge route that we could call a “downhill” this month! The profile picture looks like it is, with just a double sting in the tail so lets see how it goes.

Quite a short route overall, so as its now just after 9pm, I’m sure everyone will have finished the 7:30pm “Later-On” race so lets see if anyone’s still riding. Great, the message is “No rider on the route” so lets crack on. Off to NITEOR we go…

77 riders joined us for round 3 so lets gets the rules applied and see who’s left.

57 at the end and all were because of no heart rate data.

TO FINISH OFF:

A great race from Karel closes the gap to Hans leaving it all the play for in race 4! TisjV jumps up to 3rd from 7th as he is ballast free, but can that advantage take him to the win next week? i think its too big a gap but you never know.

These Summer months and the absence of the usual suspects doing all 4 races, means its a time for newbies to get top 10, and at the moment we have 5 riders on 0% ballast with one race to go, so we might have 50% of the top 10 getting into the “Ballast Club!” this month.

The summer months also allows a small number of riders get into the the top 50 having just done 1 ride in the month (which i was really trying to eliminate this year) . We have 9 at the moment, but this time last year, with last years points system we had a lot more and interestingly, only 27 riders finish race 3 in July last year! Sometimes it’s nice to look back just to see how you are progressing as when i first reported 57 riders in this blogs intro above, that’s more than double what we had this time last year.

While i am looking at the blog from this time last year, its also interesting to see that first place was on a massive 709.83 points (compared to this years 662.15) and the spread over the top 10 was 130.83 points, where this year it’s 123.15 which is great to be smaller than last year, but just shows that its not a massive difference, even considering the increase in ballast this year.

the spread from 1st to 50th? last year was 532.83 points!! this year? 449.15 points. A mixture of more riders and the better points for outside the top 50 has helped here, but these are great numbers and have all moved in the direction i wanted them to go. We will have another compare in a few months time and see again.

Okay, that’s it for this month. see you next week!

sneaked on the race today after being in bed for the last 24 hours with a weird fever/bug , but a few hours before the start of the race, i just felt fine, like it’d all been a horrible dream. But it hadn’t been so i promised the wife i’d just spin my legs as i really wanted to get the points on the board and not push too hard. Set off at 2.0s, and It really looked like my kinda route 😂😡 But a promise is a promise and i just road nicely, only really putting in a bit more effort on the very last climb just to see how i felt and wanted to make sure i wasn’t going to be on the route for an hour. well done to everyone and hope you had fun!

Neil, just like in a stage race..sometimes un jour sans….but you made it through. good job. as for me, I put my head down for my best start, and then looked up, and where did everybody go? how do all of ypu get such a good start. But half way through i was able to hook up with a couple of young folks and I enjoyed the play very much. cheers

Hey Paul, thanks for the comment. Starts are still a bit of a mystery to me! sometimes you think you have it nailed down, you then do the same routine at the next race and it’s a disaster. My opinion though, is that it depends on what trainer you have and how it transmits the data. Be great if you could actually specify a race to have a rolling start so at least everyone’s at say 15mph, everything’s connected and working as it should then GO! or maybe that would mess something else up, who knows.

Definitely not a profile for me, every ‘mini’ climb depleted my energy reserves further as I went in the red zone trying to get over them and stay attached to my group. Worked really well with sunniva and LinV until the final longer climbs when I had to concede my day was done with a final ‘thumbs up’. Combined with Stelviobound from that point to the finish line as we tried to keep the chasers behind.

Thanks for the comment Ste. Not as many today so it looks like a quick reply session for me as i love to use my Saturday mornings to reply to everyone. First, if i’ve not already said it, its great to see you back as much as you are and it seems you’ve got a few regulars around you/us now to really make a nice race of it. Those 2 climbs at the end were long (especially as 2.0 lol) so i was thinking as i rode up them that they’d have been a nightmare!

How we feelin’ Amsterdam? Race of the week with two nasty kickers at the end. Few big names missing due summer season, yet enough strong riders showed up. Flat introduction led by Matthias with little bumps, which distanced some guys. Main peloton was 20, then 10 as we approached first kicker.

Very tough and we formed small group with Premek, Tijs and Sylv. Second kicker followed shortly and i was able get small gap over guys, roll over horizon and reach finish line with little advantage. All out effort at the end, thank you all who joined us!

Thanks for the comment Karel and congrats on the win! Nice to hear its still tough at the top and we really appreciate you still coming along week in week out. I do need to ask, is this still part of your plan on how to win the world championship??

It was a well ride, hard effort in 2 kickers with my 4 spoken but at the end I find a good result.
After few minutes my directly opponent uncleE64 pass me and I think… shit also this time I lose my opportunity.
I ride for a long time alone, until I catch simonjp and start a good work team.
I try to give him draw in flat and downhill zone with my wheels and he give me the same for the other.
Logically I lost him and the second kicker but the most important thing was catch and pass UncleE64 and recover many points at the end.
Now our A7 is open a very battle for the next race, I hope to ride the main race for more opportunity, but as ever never give up 🤟🏻💪.
Cheers to hall and we see at the next 🤟🏻🦈

Hi Sharky, thanks for the comment! Its great to see how some of you now look at the categories and know who your direct opponents are in any given month. This is what i was hoping for, ( riders racing anywhere in the train but knowing who they need to keep an eye on and who to ignore ..) Unfortunately for me, i had to just ride so i got some points, which means you and UncleE64 have gapped me too much for me to stand any chance of a cat win next week, but i think i might still get top 5. But i will be watching to see who wins out of you both as 2 points is nothing!

HI Sharky – Great Race and nice result indeed! I was in a fast group at the beginning – over my head really. Then had to jump off the bike to answer the door – ugh! Made the huge mistake of trying to make up the lost ground (impossible) and when I went to check my HR, I suddenly realized I didn’t have my HR monitor connected. Ugh again! Got that sorted (sensor reconnection), but I was exhausted and couldn’t keep up on those last 2 climbs. Sunniva and LinV also passed me – I envy how they both climb so well. Try as I might, I just can’t go uphill. Been that way since I started road racing 12 and under as a boy. My little brother could outclimb me even when I was 11 and he was 10. The last race this month is pretty flat, so plays to my strength if I don’t overdo it. But, I can’t sprint worth a darn either, so if we’re in the same group at the end you’ll most likely get me. Maybe next month we can try for A6 with Neil. See ya Thursday hopefully!

Actually an impressive amount of kickers on a mostly downhill route. They simply kept pupping up and dwindled the frontgroup down to 10 riders until we hit the steep wall and the group split up. Couldn’t go any faster so have to be satisfied with the result 😅 Kudos to Karel who rode away solo and Niels who managed to stay with the frontgroup with a bend rib. Don’t know what I think about the mathmatics behind me still being in front (you don’t need to defend it Neil – I accept it and also enjoy just doing the races as solo events 😉) but of course it also helps that both Daniel and Tuden got DQ’ed, that a lot of the super fast guys are only doing one or two races this month and finally that Karel have a slightly bigger ballast than me. It will all be decided in a sprint next week – and the winner will get an even bigger ballast for the coming months 😂 But another fast and fun race in the books – well done Muckers 👍🏻

Some good battles this month. Make hay while we can before the fall/winter riders roll back in.
