MUCKERS 2026 MARCH CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 3.

ROUTE AND RACE DETAILS:

DATEV Challenge Roth 40 km | Germany | 23.61 miles | 1,358 ft. elevation

ROUVY SAY: Experience riding on one of the most famous triathlon bike courses, situated in Roth, a medieval town in Bavaria, Germany.

WE SAY: Classic race route! Bit of everything and glad ROUVY have thrown it into a challenge again! This was actually my 6th pass on this route since 2022 and also my fastest so even though something is “off” with the draft at the moment on ROUVY, its possibly more noticeable now because we’ve had it really good for a while and have gotten so fine tuned to it, that just a slight difference is really noticeable? Just a thought, as i felt i was having the usual draft issues tonight, yet did my fastest pass on this route? ROUVY are well aware something is off so i hope they manage to fix it soon

WHATS NEXT TO COME:

SUNDAY HILL CLIMB.

Another double header, and we are doing the 2 “wall of fans” challenge routes this weekend. If you do both your totals will be 32,37 miles and 3832 ft. elevation. We’ve given you a bit of a challenge though by asking you to try and do the first one in 60 mins to get to the start shoot for the 2nd, but fear not, you can be up to 29 minutes late for any race on ROUVY and all that matters on Sunday is the elevation so you can take as long as you need if you like. Also as there are 2 again, we see some of you do one in the morning, then the other in the afternoon. Great idea if you can do that, but the current Mrs. Mucker wouldn’t be happy with that so i will take on the 2 in the AM. Search “Muckers Hill” on ROUVY to find the most up to date races scheduled for Sundays.

TUESDAY W/KG CHAMPIONSHIP:

It’s the 2.8w/kg target week and we are using the: COLON MOUNTAINS 2 COSTA RICA challenge route whos profile is downhill for the first 3 miles, then a nice climb for the rest (7ish miles). A climb route does actually help you with the quest to get as close to the target than a more drafty downhill route so remember not to coast too much on the downhill part, then get your climb on and see if you can hit that magic figure! Search “Muckers Tuesday” to find all the latest races that have been scheduled for this event. The w/kg target will always be featured in the title in brackets.

TUESDAY WARM-UP RACE!

For those interested, we have set up a warm up race before the main Tuesday race where we are having a go at the “Beat the Product Director” route/challenge. fancy it??

THURSDAYS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP:

Race 4, so the final race of the month and we use the “Schorrise to Flobecq | Belgium” challenge route and it’ll be a fast and frantic one as its only 16.9 miles long and only 1,217 ft. elevation! Should be a great race route! Just search “Muckers March” on ROUVY and you will get all the scheduled events pop up in all the different start times we do.

TO FINISH OFF:

Another championship race all done and dusted. Thank you’s have to go out to Ste Ludford who is sorting this championship out for us every week at the moment whilst i get use to doing the Sunday and Tuesday spread sheets, which are going great so far but, i just know this Thursday one is the one that takes the time and he’s all over it, all day, adding in the results as the races finish. Thanks again Ste, i honestly love everything you are doing and how you are also looking after my mental capacity as well 😏

Thanks to you all for coming along again! Because i now have to go back to manually checking each and every one of you for HR data since NITEOR closed (i am not supplying or sharing this data to anyone, just confirming its present or not) it’s great to see all the names that have been with us for ages now and it is generally the “new” names that end up being the ones with no hr data. That’s a real shame, especially as we get further down the leaderboards and those riders that spent a while getting the route done end up being disqualified from our results just because of this one thing. Please remember, you need to supply Heart rate data to be included in this championship.

Thank you to those who are still supporting us with Shop purchases, there has been a few over the last few weeks which has been really nice to see. Hope you like the items. We are in the process of getting some new items on there over the next few weeks so if you fancy something different to what we already have, watch this space!

And finally, thanks to those that have joined in with the blog! seems more and more are getting into the comments and its so great and sometimes really funny to read how the race went for yourselves. It really makes the whole thing more “real” and to read that the person whos avatar just flew past you without looking fazed was actually a real person, thousands of miles from you in a garage or spare room somewhere in a completely different time zone, and was actually very close to bonking rather than looking cool, well, that’s just epic to us, so long may it continue 🤞🤞🤞

See you next week.

Fast start, try and get to the climb as fast as possible, hold 3.0 up the climb and then hang on!! It did go to plan, but i was holding onto the wheels of some riders way out of my league after the climb, so let them go and chilled till the next train came! think i did this again a few more times till i hit that horrible climb about 2/3rds the way in. weirdly, i always remember this part every time i do this route but this time i have my category rivals behind and i have to get my arse up and over this climb before they get a sniff of my draft! Man that was a hard effort but i also had dok PS for company who is usually a good 20 places higher up the road so wasn’t really expecting to stay with him but he must have been chilling or training at a low level as we stayed together for the rest and his help/draft helped me stay in front of the fast closing LinV and 4WorldPeace and also, i found out later on Strava, kept a nice bit of pressure on Sunniva up front!

Enjoyed it, but it was a hard slog, but i suppose it wouldn’t be a Muckers Race if it was easy…….

    • Dok_PS says:

Downhill starts are a nightmare for me. My gearing on my bike limit me to little w/kg with a high cadence so I was around 50 when the climb started and then around 30+ at the end with a group that I can usually constantly follow in the draft. But what was wrong? I had the same power then the others but got distanced like in a no draft race, had to push hard to keep the wheels again but this was too much for this day where I had a run at lunch time and have a half marathon on Sunday. So I startet tapering, waving around – usually there is no time – and was then back around 50+ when you arrived. I realised you wanted to keep the gap. So I found motivation again and tried to stay with you ahead of the next group. This was nice and you looked strong in the last climb. Pat

Thanks again and thanks for noticing or hearing my shouts of “pleaseeeeeeee don’t drop me” and ” i neeeeeeed youuuuu” i think if the wife was listening she’d have thought i was getting dumped by my affair…… But yeah, my efforts were all about staying with you and staying in front of LinV, who, just to spice things up, decided to throw down some +4.0s at the finish so i had to empty the tank to line, you know, just for the fun of it ..NOT lol

Did this route as a ITT race four years ago, when I was in my Peak Mike days (FTP then was 315 watts/4.6 W/kg) and was 4 minutes faster today. That’s what draft does for you. But the draft these past few days or a week has been pretty wonky, there’s been lots of complaints. Rode today mostly with Bizio75 and DonMatteo_74, and we blew by several guys who are usually up the road from me; guys who, judging from their Strava, were victimized by drafting glitches and couldn’t grab our wheels: BartVandenBrande, lrollin, and danrocky among them. This detracts from the racing experience: did I have a great race or was I just lucky? We collected wolli.d and perswe who managed to stay with us, and stfmgr_65 right at the end, but I wasn’t around for that as the last ramp with 2 km to go was too much for me. And DonMateo got stalled on the finish line, I think, he was actually ahead of me.

    • Dominique EddyDomino RODRIGUEZ says:

I don’t like making excuses (legs pain, fatigue, …), but it was a weird experience yesterday. It was impossible to stay in any group even at full power! During all that I thought that I was totally out of the game or perhaps because of my gear choice: first time with the Quintana Roo service course. It was really demotivating, thanks to Laurent Rollin & Chorus, I re-entered in the race and finished it. However, it’s OK, we have to accept it sometimes there are some technical issues even in real life (forgetting to check tire pressure, adjust the derailleur or lubricate the chain 😱)… That’s the rule of the game! So, Mike, you indeed had a great race!
See you all on sunday morning and next week at full speed! Thanks everyones for the race.

  3. Eric H. (UncleE64) says:

What a fun ride! I knew I had to pace myself the first 20 minutes and then try and get into a group that would work together. Went out too hard for first 4-5 mins but settled into my rhythm on the climb (losing about 20 places by the time I got to the top). Still, I hit the 20 minute mark at almost the exact avg watts I was shooting for, so figured I had a chance for a good result. So glad I got a chance to do the “main event” this week and got to ride at various stretches with so many of my fellow Muckers: 4WorldPeace, sunniva, SLudford, rouvy1bryon, and Mucker1974 – enjoyed riding with all of you. @sunniva – I know you would have liked me to pull harder down those hills, but I was whipped and trying to regain some strength.

    • Sunniva says:

But you were pulling like crazy 🙂 When I no longer had the power to race Mr. Ludberg (although he was very kind and waited for me a few times LOL), I decided to join you and try to use your draft. And I got dropped again, grrr. At one point, I even thought you were deliberately trying to get away from me because you didn’t want me on your wheel 🙂 but that was all the power I had. I made one last push at the very end to get away from LinV and Neil and not get overtaken in the final meters. I was completely exhausted after all of this (IF:0.999) but I liked it.

      • Sunniva says:

Sorry for the misspelling of Steven’s last name. The “berg” ending just comes to mind when I think of him. Maybe it’s because we often go uphill together 🙂

        • Eric H. (UncleE64) says:

Wasn’t consciously trying to get away, but I did have a power plan and was trying to stick to it. I’m wondering if you were experiencing the ‘draft glitch” everyone’s been talking about. Hopefully they fix it soon.

          • Sunniva says:

Sometimes the problem is that I’m riding at a steady pace with the group, and then boom, the load changes and it gets harder without changing the route profile. It’s then difficult to keep up with the others. I’ve never experienced this before.

    • Neil Rushby says:

definitely punching well above my class when i found myself with you and rouvy1 but i held on for as long as i could and i did feel it was going to be possible if i just stayed really close, but i just had to keep digging in way too deep to even stay in the draft so i was always going to expire at some point. But was a nice challenge while it lasted.

  4. Brian Westfall (4WorldPeace) says:

It was a good race for me but, unfortunately I lost to much time on the big hill to stay with any group and ended up riding most of the 2nd half by my self. I’m not sure if I just lost concentration or it was the wonky draft but, two groups just blew past me and I couldn’t grab there wheels. I thought I had a chance to catch Neil when he finally dropped of that fast group he was in but, he caught on to those groups that I missed and pulled away. Some how I manage to grab on to the group LinV and StepanB were in and held on to the end. Thanks LinV for pulling us to the end! StepanB was ahead of me when we hit that last hill and I was sure he was going to hold on but, somehow I managed to grind it out and pass him. Neil, I think just maybe if we had one more hill we might have caught you!🙃 All in all a good finish for me but, I was spent in the end.

    • LinV says:

“Thanks LinV for pulling us to the end!”

It’s so funny you say this because from my perspective it was you who was pulling us like crazy!! I had to put in a real effort to stay with you and others were dropped. But thinking back, maybe I was dropping them while I was thinking you were almost dropping me. Hmm, interesting mind-games 🙂

So, I think the Rouvy bug might not be related to draft but to placement. If you’re not where you think you are in relation to others, you’re not getting the draft you expect. Something like this? Anyway, it was a nice route, I enjoyed it.

      • Mr Steven Ludford says:

There’s an odd glitch at the moment where two riders see each other as being ahead and both riders receive draft from each other at the same time. So you both think you are drafting and try to help the other rider by ‘coming through’ but they see it like you are trying to drop them 🤷🤷

        • Hans says:

Exactly … but at least it is very motivating for a hard workout … that is if you can stay in the draft 🥵 add to that the extra effort needed not to get dropped immediately by bigger groups catching you …

        • Mike Hagen says:

Yes. I had that in my earlier race yesterday. My screen showed me drafting and the draft bar said I had a healthy 70 watt saving, but the Nearby list showed the other fellow 5 m behind me.

    • Neil Rushby says:

As i can only see 1 rider behind on my nearby list, everytime you’d pop up, i could work out you must be with a group which in turn spurred me on to either keep a high solo pace going, or suck whatever wheel i could to get to the end and stay in front! I could see LInV was pulling hard behind so i was never sure if you were coming with her or not, so even more anxiety and fear creeps in then lol. I really miss having all the info of the ipads nearby list but i just can’t risk the glitches i get when i use it…. but maybe if i get a category promotion, i will use it next month 🥴🥴

  5. Mr Steven Ludford says:

Strong race for me but the effort required to keep with riders on the climbs reduced me to a passenger on the flats (where I would usually be able to pull) while I tried to recover. Worked for a long time with Sunniva and we bridged to Mike_Ch1 who looked like he needed a group, it worked for a while as we passed a few riders but, ultimately, Mike was too strong, Sunniva dropped back and I deliberately waited to force Mike to slow, we regrouped briefly then Mike pushed again and I made the decision to follow to gain road space on the following groups. I could only offer very brief turns so Mike, understandably, went solo. Now I was isolated and could do nothing to stop rouvy1bryon and UncleE64 from catching, except jump on and hope they could draft me away from the next riders.

    • Eric H. (UncleE64) says:

Hi Steven, not sure if you knew it, but when rouvy1bryon and I caught you, you did your share of pulling too – at least that’s how it appeared to me. I felt like I was getting a free ride home until we hit that last kicker. You both opened up more than 50′ on me right away when we started climbing, but then it seems the good pacing I’d done all race worked and y’all let me close again at the top – or maybe you were both being kind to a fellow Mucker 😉
Hoping we can all channel Mathieu Van Der Poel next week! He’s my same height and weight, so I should be golden right? If only!

  6. Manuel Lamber SHARK says:

A tough and intense race this evening. After a good start and a green zone, I catch up with friends and rivals Duckman2, pan.Rorisi, and Mnhrouvy, very close in our category standings. I work hard to gain ground, and I succeed, but on the subsequent descents I’m alone and I keep pushing (despite the single-versus-group theory 🤣). In fact, when I see Duckman2 group everyone up and descend well, I already know I’ll be caught in a few kilometers. Here begins a race within a race. No kudos from Mnhrouvy, and I can already tell he’s after the lead in the category. Sharky sharpens his teeth and holds firm. It’s a great challenge. Maybe he’d be better suited to a C4, but I love a challenge. Like two kids on the run, we catch Andy and Ratim, finally getting kudos from everyone, or almost everyone. I think, okay, let’s work and rest… but no, after a few kilometers we’re still in the breakaway, so consistent that we’re making up ground on Matthias Hell. I don’t want to give away even 1w (even because I don’t have any left), but the last climb could bring smiles or pain… result? Sharky manages to gain 70 meters on a tireless Mnhrouvy (great job, buddy, but I prefer teamwork). I arrive behind Matthias and finish top 30 and 1st in A5 💪🦈🫡
Thanks to all the friends who rode with me, and a positive thought for my friend Slyfly who’s having problems with his kicker. My friend, this month would have been a top challenge. I’ll see you next time 💪💪

  7. Hans says:

Draft really was all over the place. Getting dropped painfully slowly from the frontgroup on the climb while having an average of over 5 w/kg since the start of the race (it took 2-3 km on full gas just to catch the front of the race in the beginning downhill section) – regrouping with Karianne, VeloBuch and IvanSagan only to experience Karianne pulling like crazy on the flat and dropping IvanSagan of the wheel (but from her point of view I was the one pulling 5-10 meters ahead of the group 🥴), then the unfortunate but usual powerdrop to VeloBuch and Karianne getting out of the slipstream when we caught Wyverns – finally ending it all with a solo 12 km TT to the finish line. Strange and hard race with a 300 watt average … but still fun. Cheers all 👋🏻

  8. I started in dead last, My 4 year old grand daughter facetimed me just as the race started, of course I needed to answer, when I told her I was in last she thought that was funny. So my tactics were out the window, no drafting with a heavy bike built for drafting, oh well I hit the first hill as hard as possible. The aero bike helped on the downhill. I picked up some places enough to move up one place in the overall standing but on the wrong side of 50th so I lost big points to my catagory rivals. But thanks to my grand daughter’s call I was still smiling at the end of the race.

    • Neil Rushby says:

this is why i didn’t see you on the nearby list yet i only see 3 riders now that i’ve switched to the spare iphone to use as my screen. I also have started to worry you and Brian are in cahoots and are letting me go so i get automatic promotion by winning this months category lol. i’m feeling i Might get a puncture next week……..

  9. Karel Soušek says:

Hybrid journey experience, ongoing drafting issues, DF 63% despite i spent 90% of time with someone. Flat section and first climb quickly made gaps. I stayed with Hans, not sure whether i draft or not. Only with Tim i could feel something, but still like having sex with sheath 🙂 We joined with Andrus later on, dropping Wyverns.

Interestingly leading trio was miles away with almost 4min lead, be it real or not. Also descents are way harder spinning out very quickly on moderate decline. All in all, solid result, effort, but something is wrong and it’s not only my level of performance. Thank you all who joined us.

  10. Eric H. (UncleE64) says:

Gotta share a funny story: I did the Milan Torino race on Wednesday (for the coins and to test the new Trek 50th edition). Since there were so many people signed up I also decided to switch from my regular “first person (Me)” view on my phone to the “Middle” view. Plan was to not push too hard, but I thought to myself, “what harm can there be in a 300W controlled effort” to get going and then settle into a nice group until we hit the climb. Right after the start I could see I was trailing a fellow Mucker! “I’ll just trail that guy for a while” I thought (I can’t really read the names on my screen unless I really bend down, move my contact lens over and squint.” The guy in front seemed tireless! He also seemed amazingly well-matched to me and steady. We kept passing folks and climbing through the ranks with the draft pegged at 100%. Finally, after 2.5 minutes at nearly 300W, I thought “I’m going to ruin my Mucker race tomorrow if I keep this up” and slowed down. So did the Mucker in front! Then of course it hit me. I hope you’re all laughing with me. Needless to say, I put my view back to “Me” for the Mucker race on Thursday. Cheers.

    • Mr Steven Ludford says:

I also use the first person ‘me’ view for the realism … but like yourself I have switched to ‘middle’ view for the occasional TT race … it’s bizarrely motivating as you don’t want to ease up as long as that rider ahead is still going strong 🤦.

Apologies I haven’t accepted your Rouvy friend request Eric, and to anyone else who has sent me one. I run the Rouvy Turbo Championship for Farnham Road Club and by making my friends exclusively FRC riders I can pull results out of Rouvy very quickly using the ‘see friends’ filter. I can be found on Strava under Steven Ludford.

    • Neil Rushby says:

as soon i started reading this i knew where it was going.😂🤦‍♂️ I think it’s a right of passage for anyone who calls themselves a ROUVY rider that you have to at least one in your life tricked yourself by doing this!!

    • Klinthomie says:

      Hahaha!

  11. Neil Rushby says:

This has turned into part of My Saturday routine now. I walk the dog, then sit down with my breakfast and read through the comments. Seems we are all, in our own way, experiencing some weirdness on our races, which is kinda a relief for me as i felt them straight away (if you look at my average w/kg in the races you will see, i use the draft … a lot!) but most of the time i just end up feeling its all my ipads fault.

Also just to let you know, people from ROUVY have reached out to say the development team are aware of it and are looking for a fix and do read our comments as well so thats also good to know.
