MUCKERS 7pm Thursday Race Night. 27/04/23
Rouvy Route Used : Cairns | Palm Cove – Craiglie | 24.85 miles | 75459 ft climbing
Route 2 from the Tri Combination series | HARD challenge
28 registered | 16 finishers | 2 dnf | 10 dns
Maybe it was the length, maybe the thought that this challenge was a tough one to complete, or maybe just riders saw some of the riders on the start line! what ever it was, we only had 18 riders on the start line for this race tonight and it wasn’t even a double header night.
“Simon_Hahnenbruch” claimed first place just after 57 minutes but only 5 seconds in front of 2nd and 3rd which was lead by “quicknik80” in silver and “nelsonsnyder” in third. Top 3 all with an average speed of over 26mph! some goin that!
Only 11 seconds behind came “karel_sousek” for 4th place and considering he was having drafting glitches again, this was a really strong result but i think itleft him to an almost solo effort all the way!
5th, 6th and7th were all very close with the Portuguese rider “EdAlves” claiming 5th, Canadians top female rider ( well, to me she is!) “StephanieBriggs” in 6th and the 2nd German rider over the line “Stefan793” in 7th. These 3 finishing in under that magic 60 minutes time as well.
8th and 9th next and looked to have rode together quite nicely came top placed Muckers Worldwide rider “denny44” in 8th with “yayarecki” 4 seconds behind in 9th.
Last mention, and maybe the reason why we had a sprint between two riders for it, came the 2nd Muckers Worldwide rider “Mick_Michel” who just pipped🤐🤐 well, I can’t say, but the gap was 0.4 of a second between getting a mention and not 😆😉
But, I will say a massive well done to everyone that finished this race. This was a longer than normal race so it was tough to stay on it for the whole thing and not just give up.

12th for me tonight. I tried sooooo hard to stay with denny44, yayarecki, bling87, uncleE64 and Mich_Michel for the first 10 or 11 miles but we hit a long gradual climb and i just couldn’t do it anymore. was doing ok on the flats and little kicker hills, but that one just finished me off and i had to let them go! A bit later on i caught bling87 up and thought he’d backed off to ride with me but he soon dropped off and i was left on a solo effort to the end, but still having to put it in as the strong climber Kyle was just behind me and on every incline, he shortened the gap, so i had to stay on it otherwise he would have had me. I did see the usually very strong robbiedoo at the rear and looking like he was helping swifty along which was really nice of him. Definitely Muckeresque behavior..
This was a bit of a strange one for me as I’m not a long flat ride type of guy, but being a “Mucker” and it’s a “Muckers Race,” then I had to jump on.
The first 5 miles, I was sat with “mszczu,” but then he dropped me, and I was left in no man’s land. I could see “robbiedoo” slowly catching me. I was hoping to keep him off my wheel until the last 10 miles, but something happened, and he stopped, and so did “mszczu,” and then “Tom-MWW” stopped too. I was sat there in 14th place, slowly catching “Bling87.” With 6 miles to go, I passed “Bling87,” only “Mucker1974” to catch now. I finished with only 0.25 miles behind “Mucker1974.”
I’d just like to mention that when “robbiedoo” got back to the ride, he rode the last 12 miles with “Swifty.” “Robbiedoo,” I know you’re an Eastbourne Rovers CC rider, but today you were a true “Mucker” for not leaving a man behind!
Shout out to Mick_Michel for towing me along and a well-deserved 10th place. After I tried (and failed miserably) to hold StephanieBriggs wheel in the opening miles (DAMN she’s strong!) I was lucky enough to link up with Mucker1974 (Neil – Mr. Mucker himself!) denny44, yayarecki, bling87, and Mick_Michel. We worked together until that longer gradual time Neil mentions above and eventually the other 3 got away from Mick_Michel and me. bling87 was trying to stick with denny44 and yayarecki but eventually came back to us. It was great to trade off with Mick_Michel all the way home – we played a little cat and mouse at the end (10th place and a mention in the race report up for grabs!) but he was only toying with me and blew me away in the sprint. Oh well, maybe if I keep working at it I can get more than just a 🤐🤐 mention in the race report. Cheers to Neil and the Muckers for such a good time!
cheers for the comment Eric, it was a good race to be in the draft that’s for sure. It still makes my smile how the top 10 mention gets everyone from all the around the world, trying that little harder! I think the zipped mouth i used for 11th this time is just as good 😂. Thanks again for commenting and see you on another race soon.
Sorry I couldn’t make it. I had a fun time at the circuit of Zolder evening cycling. But I see some fun routes comming up next week so I’ll be back!
Great to hear that most had a wonderful race event! Couldn’t make it eather because I am very sick with fiever and a heavy bronchitis. Think yesterday was the worst day, received med and feeling better now. Maybe we see on Sunday, try to be at the start, but with only 50% output. We will see…. I wanted to work on the “30000 feet Strava challenge” too, but don’t feel strong enough at the moment. By the way, I can’t find this challenge on my PC, only on the smartphone and only if sb. wrote a message.
Chris alias “uffzynda”
wow, 2 totally different reasons for not jumping on this race!! Andy, i saw your strava post and i am blown away by your speed around the race circuit. Chris, look after yourself and don’t rush back too soon! listen to your body. we will all be here for months and months so come back when you are ready.
Another beautiful race. One word would suffice to describe it: Wow! But let’s use a few more words. These races always take everything out of me, but that’s why I love them.
In the first period I rode with a group of 6 riders, UncleE64, yayarecki, Mucker1974, denny44, Bling87 and myself. At some point Mucker1974 seemed to be struggling to keep up with the group and dropped back a bit. I dropped back as well and tried to lead my teammate back to the group. The first attempt failed and to be honest I didn’t have the strength for a second. Sorry, Mucker1974. It wasn’t long before UncleE64 and I couldn’t follow the group either. But at least there were two of us and we worked well together all the way to the finish. I was able to win the final sprint. The important 10th place, yes! 😉 But really, we both deserved to be 10th. UncleE64, thanks for the great teamwork!
Cheers!
its really hard to be ruthless in the last sprint when you know you’ve worked really well as a team up to that point isn’t it!!?? But you’ve just got to remember, it is a race, everyone knows its a race, and its not over till you cross the line.
i was struggling you are correct, i really appreciate the help but i was blowing up at that pace, especially when the climbs got a little longer. little kicker climbs that i can stand up and pull 500-600 watts to get over them, no problem, but those longer efforts that take 300-350 watts to stay with the group, are just not for me at all
But as they say, you only get better by riding with better riders, which i do 3 times a week!!!
