MUCKERS 8pm Thursday Race Night. 16/03/23
Rouvy Route Used: Cap de Formentor | Mallorca | 6.84 miles | 830 ft climbing
Route 1 from the READY for SEASON??? | MEDIUM Challenge
28 registered | 18 finishers | 1 dnf | 9 dns
8pm UK and a nice little hill climb from a challenge as the second race. Quite a popular route this one and quite an interesting climb….. if you like that type of thing! 🤔
“bismo“, “Simon_Hahenbruch“, “EdAlves” and “PatrykS_Gdynia_PL” must love this type of thing coming over the line in that order and averaging over 20mph each! unreal efforts!
5th came “Dok_PS who i am sure won one of the Sunday races recenty, then came the best placed Muckers worldwide rider “tomlerieger” in a vary strong 6th just in front of “uffzynda” in 7th, who was followed even closer over the line by “Lorenzino” in 8th! Considering the climb at the end of this route, this must have been an interesting end to the race for this group.
A very impressive 9th for “jeff65“, somehow averaging 17.32mph over the route, with “alexmatiu” taking the last top 10 place in a time of just 23 minutes and 44 seconds.
Well done to all 18 finishers, and as per usual, a special well done and thank you to all those who completed both Muckers races tonight. your support is really appreciated as without you guys doing this it’d be no good!
cheers

Legs still shaking from the warm up sprint, i set off and pushed hard just so i could try and get a photo of the top riders before they disappeared into the sunset…. I was ok along the flattish first part but then the climb hit me hard and I was soon into first gear! S.Ludford (Muckers worldwide team mate ) was the first to back off and allow me to get onto his back wheel and then pace me up the hill which I soon got into a rhythm and I thank him for the help! not sure if we caught or if he caught up to us, but we were a three rider team for a while with robbiedoo and then Tom backed off a bit later on and we were a 4 strong British squad just getting it done! Soon the end was drawing near and the competitive devil popped onto all our shoulders and the efforts just started to rise until a full on race happened…. for those 3 anyway😂 and I crept up that last climb to the finish.🥵
After Race 1, the sharp end of this race looked well beyond my capabilities. I decided to start at the back and do domestique duties for anyone around. The great thing about racing is that you are always learning, today I was trying to calculate the best way to tow riders in the optimal draft. IRL it’s easy to see if a team mate would benefit from a draft, their body language for starters or they may just tell you. Virtual is different, you are looking at their data and then trying to put yourself in the right position to help them ‘saving watts’. Uphill – trying to be 5ft max in front – flat 15ft in front – downhill up to 50ft in front. At the same time you are trying to gently increase the power, I think I struggled at that part and occasionally put the hammer down too quickly, all part of the learning curve. By the end we became the Grupetto (autobus), Robbiedoo, Tom-MWW, Mucker1974 and myself before we had one last blast up the final hill … oh … and I may have sprinted away from a team mate again.
thanks for the comments and especially the help up the hill. The draft doesn’t really work under 9mph so it was just your wheel being there that kept me pushing to stay with you on the climbs and that was more than enough help. cheers again.
My first Rouvy race ever (not the last). Note to myself. Never ever do a medium ride seconds before the start. I couldn’t feel my legs after I finally past the goal, as no. 19 🙂
Thanks Neil for being very welcome to a novice in Rouvy racing 🙂
Although today wasn’t my best day, there was still some anger in my stomach because I did so badly in the warm-up race before, where I finished only on P14. Between races, I had a few minutes to go to the bathroom and put on my chest strap, which I forgot to do during the warm-up run.
Again I didn’t have a teammate by my side, this seems to become a tradition, but I still gave my best. All I had, heart rate 180 (at 52 of age ;-)) at the end, in a furious final sprint, 3 seconds after “tomlerieger” on P6 and just 6 tenths of a second in front of “Lorenzino” on P8.
I’m already looking forward to the next race. CU there!
Chris alias “uffzynda”
i thought that your race ending would have been a sprint as the three of you are very close on the timings! Brilliant effort pal. see you at the next one!
First of all I would like to thank you Neil for all the work and energy you put in the Muckers Worldwideproject! This evening I started my warm up with the London city route before I did the Atlantic rode, which I missed on Tuesday night. I put 2 ghosts, Chak, Svard and Mucker1974 as friends in for drafting. Tried to follow my Muckers but had no chance and lost some time in the challange. But at least I was well heated up for the Cap Formentor race! After a perfect start I found myself on 8th place in the middle of the top group riders: top ten is possible and a mention in the report aswell was the goal which gave me wings (legs). I tried not to overpace in the climb an stayed at around 3.5W/kg. In the first climb I was overtaken by uffzinda, who pulled 4-5W, so tried not to follow but to stick to the game plan. In the long climb I got in a kind of flow and felt stronger than ever! Don’t no why, sometimes I feel empty in the races and have troubles to keep 2.5W/kg, sometimes I can pull 4W/kg for longer times. Mybe it’s a question of the form of the day; do you feel the same sometimes?
On the top of the climb I was 50m ahead of my two chasers and pulled like crazy to keep the gap. I managed to keep 20m ahead and was very proud of my 6th place in a main race! Now I’m preparing for a Granfondo in the real world! Nice weekend for all Muckers worldwide. Cheers Tom
Thanks for commenting Tom, it is a great feeling when you stick to your game plan and it works out at the end isn’t it! I feel its all about prep during the day if i am going to be strong or not. but yes you’ve gotta love those days whre the power is superb and it feels easy to maintain it, then hate those days where you can’t even manage 200 watts without everything feeling like a strain! Good luck on the granfondo!
