MUCKERS ‘The Classics’ Race 1 of 3. 16/05/23

Rouvy Route Used: Challenge Samorin | The Championship 30 km | 18.58 miles | 318 ft climbing

Route 2 from the Classics Challenge.

Seems a long Time has gone by since Thursdays race night, but here we are, ready for the first race in a double header race night. This 4 route challenge, has a hill climb and 3 nice race routes. So I decided to run the hill climb as a separate hill climb event which I tend to run on Sundays as non races but just scheduled if you fancy getting the challenge done, and the other 3 routes as a mini championship on my race nights. Tonight being the first in ‘the classics’ event

For an 18 miler to only have 318 ft of climbing, almost makes this a flat route so the draft will be key to a good result and race time.

32 on the start line for this race tonight!! awesome turn out and thank you all for joining us tonight. So are we all ready for a boring flat race?????

hinsbergen” conquered this route tonight that was flat but with some nice little kickers just to test riders powers/surges. Just 2 seconds later came the strong Dane “Tuden” with “karel_sousek_drafting” just another 2 seconds behind him! Class top 3 if i do say so myself.

4th and 5th sprint off next with “Pimporro_GURE” just beating “adampel” who, for once, wasn’t one place either side of his team mate tonight.

6th came top Muckers Worldwide rider “MikeHagen” showing the free transfer was a shrewd move indeed 😆😉 7th for the 2nd Dane in the top 10 “nielsbrynnum” , and 8th for the 2nd Czech rider in the top 10 “Ghostkiller“. Not too far behind came German rider “Loki1972” then in the final mention slot, “DaniMuren” , the Beligum Rider finishing out the top 10 with a very impressive average speed of 24.42mph.

Thank you everyone for jumping on this race and hopefully you can jump on the next one and get some more points on the board!

cheers

21st and what a challenge! set off quite strong and held on for as long as i could but got dropped by those guys and ended up in another pack for a while till that one split up. then joined another pack. Pretty much like that the whole of the race, just trying not to get dropped and if i did, then stay strong until someone caught me again! Special mention to “squalo” as he did pull me along for a while and got me into the pack of 4 that i ended up having the final sprint off with. Happily he just pipped me at the line and i’m more than happy about that thanks to his efforts to help me!

I need to take lessons from my teammates about pacing. Tonight it was ‘Chak’, ‘tomlerieger’ and ‘denny44’ but on other nights there have been a few more names. It is difficult because you are unable to look around when the race starts to know where people are, so you are not sure if they are behind you or in front and I am too worried to lose a good drafting pack. The result is too much time at the beginning in ‘the red’ and guys coming past me 8 miles later still fresh. I wasn’t feeling 100% tonight and relied on the drafting of riders to get me through, so apologies if I sat on your wheel tonight. Although I’m feeling it was a bad night my numbers suggest it was a fast race with a strong field of riders, 158 Ave bpm and 24mph average, but I was well below FTP.

it would be nicer to have a bigger list of where everyone is. i do see on some screen shots, people have an overlay of a big list of placings but ive never seen it on my ipad. Have a nice rest tomorrow and maybe just zone 4 the Thursday one if your having a go? you’ve done a lot of cycling recently mate.

This was just the warm-up for the second race for me. So, I decided to pace myself for this race and rode with ‘Swifty’ for the first 8 miles. However, then I realized that if I keep up this pace, I will not make it to the second race. Unfortunately, I had to leave ‘Swifty’ behind and power on. I passed ‘Ram79’ and finished 27th with 3 minutes to spare for the next race.

This was a good race for me! Flat course, which suits me, so I thought I could get in with the front group and hang with them for a while. A few kms in, after the usual torrid start, that’s the way it was: about half a dozen of us at the front. But, wait, no Chris or Adam? I figured not much would happen until they joined us, which they eventually did. Reading the Strava reports, seems some of the riders experienced Rouvy glitches. For me, they were minor: I lost my draft bar at one point, but not for long; some avatars were ghostly, seemingly only half there; and at one point Tuden took a quick trip into a corn field, probably for a pee, but he made it fast. About halfway Karel did another one of his surges and pulled Chris and Tuden with him. So me and Adam and Pimporo are now a group of three, but suddenly Adam disappeared then reappeared 50 m behind. Clearly a glitch; he was still moving so we waited for him. With just a few km to go, those two upped the pace and I couldn’t respond. Just as well; I’d known for a while I was pretty much locked into 6th place, and this way I wouldn’t have to try some stupid 800 watt sprint.

Well done Mike and thanks for taking the time to comment.

    • Pimporro says:

The picture of the blog was my first 8 miles. The 6 of us rode strong together as a group and managed to chase back to 18th or 19th place. But I burned all my matches and got dropped shortly after. Without the draft I had to work so hard but kept watching the group get further and further ahead. DT Kareaz was a few hundred feet behind me so I had motivation to keep pushing. This was the firat Muckers race I have been able to attend. The competion is very fierce and the lead groups were amazing. I’m happy with my result but anxiois to do better next one I can join

  6. Henrik Jørgensen says:

Really tough race to the very end. There was some issues with drafting and riders not showing on the screen. Going through some of the participants Strava comments, I can tell I was not the only one with issues. Te He stranges thing thought, was the wierd unknown rider that showed up from time to time in the right hand corner of the screen. But no one was there.
Back to the race… Really tough race with a bunch of riders hanging on for a long time, and making this race great fun. Eventually only Hansenberg and Karel Soušek was able to pull away, and The race was on. Karel really worked us over, with multiple accelerations. But Hinsenberg and I did not break, and I think Karel payed for his attempts in the end. I was able to get a small gap to them, and started my sprint waaaay out. I know from previous races that Hinsenberg has an impressive sprint and I was already on maximum heart rate.(195 bpm🫣) insane for a guy in my age.
Hinsenberg came fast from behind a d I could do nothing to follow. But I am very satisfied with 2 place in this group of very strong riders.
Great fun and great training 👍
