MUCKERS Czech Parks Race Night. 04/07/23

Rouvy Route Used: Nova Pec to Dobra | Czechia | 17.96 miles | 1204 ft climbing

Route 3 from the Czech National Parks Easy Challenge and the First Race of the Night

35 Registered | 31 Finishers | 1 DNF | 3 DNS.

Its been a while since we’ve had a double header night but tonight was the night. I kinda feel under an hour is a bit short, yet 2 hours is too long so as this one would be under an hour for the majority at race pace, I tagged a little 2nd race on the end.

looks like this route suited “karel_sousek” who came home in a superb time and over a minute in front of one of out other top riders “Tuden” We then had the usual gap ( but not as big as usual though) back to the chasing pack which was won by the excellent Polish rider “yayarecki” who looks to have outsprinted a pair of Danes to get the bronze!

“nielsbrynnum” just got over the line for 4th, in front of ( i suspect) newcomer “transberg“. I am really sorry if you’re not a newcomer, I just don’t remember typing your name before or at least not that often?? Superb result anyway with top 5 tonight.

Top Muckers Worldwide rider “MikeHagen” came home in a very strong 6th , 8 seconds in front of ( omg, I’m really taking a risk by guessing this !) another possible newcomer to my races “Berty-Bassett6” with a great 7th place for the British rider! was there really 5 other Berty-Bassetts on here?😉

Then we have a trio of strong Muckers filling out the last 3 places in the top 10. “denny44” , “kylofski” and “Andy_UP” hopefully they will comment and let us know how that order came to be??

Well done to all 31 riders in this race! 31! on a Summer night. Hope you all got out of it what you needed and see you at the next one.

cheers

Double race Night!? 2nd race a short city route that kinda suites me more?? OK. lets zone4 HR this one and see if i can do it in under an hour so i can give the 2nd race a good go! Why though, when i decide to Zone4, its always when we have a superb number of riders AND ones that are just up the road from me as well that i know if i just up it a bit, I’d probably have a great race against!! 😂😂

Never mind Neil, Just stick to the training and i did. I Just got it all done in around 59 minutes with a nice 189w average and under 140bpms. So No real race report from me here, but what a nice looking route and i enjoyed the challenge.

  2. Steven Ludford says:

My strongest race in a long time, felt good in the warm up and decided to try and get in ‘group 2’ on the road. Managed to achieve this and rode for approx half distance with ‘Berty-Bassett6’, ‘Ghostkiller’ and teammates Mike & Chak. The group worked very well to stay together but I couldn’t really pull on the front, I couldn’t even muster the power/kg to get to the front so held on for as long as I could and they finally broke me about 1 mile before the big hill. Now I could see 3 more teammates 600ft behind working well as a team, all of them light as feathers so I knew Daniel, Andy & Kyle would fly past me on the long hill on their way to a master class in tactics and teamwork, there would be no benefit in me sitting up to wait for them, I powered on ultimately to protect my position ahead of the rest. Not an ideal route for me so I am very satisfied with position and performance.

I seem to start ok, but I knew there was problem as the power I was putting down wasn’t registering and then lost connection. Seemed to last forever but was only just under 2mins but damaged was done. I was sat last and thought this will be interesting as I had my sights on around 12place. So I began smashing the pedals but wanted to get into a good rhythm. I soon started to catch fellow comrades and manage to get a good partnership going with Jeff , we caught kali and stevliobound and then set our sights on catching the mountain boss and derrydingle. Manage to catch these 2 on the last climb and had to leave Jeff behind ( great effort Jeff btw esp with recent injury ) and then manage to pick up rens on the decent and then put in a effort about 800metres out to get ahead and then closed on Lars but run out of road. Only around 14seconds behind. One day I get everything right. Hopefully Thursday. Well done all.

Almost like a Redbull F1 car starting at the back of the grid! just racing through the field and just enjoying the overtakes! you will obviously get everything right on Thursday Mucker! 😉

Great report and ride Ryan, was my first ride on Rouvy for a couple of weeks,so intended do take it relatively easily, cycled with Ryan, and waited for him when he glitched, great fun, overtaking several back markers. Ryan dropped me on the climb, and I put all my effort in catching Dan Mountain to the line, stunning route, thanks for organising.

Didn’t feel I had legs today, but no excuses as it worked out okay. Spent most of the race riding with yayarecki, Berty-Bassett6, Ghostkiller, Chak, and S.Ludford. We briefly saw Tom-MWW after he’d been dropped by the top group — he found that it’s hard to grab the wheels of riders on a hill! The one long climb was brutal, but I managed to stay with yayarecki and Berty-Bassett6, we even saw tranberg and nielsbrynnum 20 m up at one point, but they crested the hill first and got back to 300 m ahead. With a km or so to go the three of us had pulled the other two back, they were only 70 m ahead, but I didn’t think we had enough race left to catch them. yayarecki had different ideas. Great effort by him to hit the podium. I still needed a few more hundred metres. Ah well.

  5. Kyle Goodram says:

Tonight, I was in two minds about whether to go out into the real world or participate in a Muckers Race. Eventually, I chose the latter. Although this 17-mile, 1200-foot climbing race wasn’t going to be my strongest ride, I decided to give it my best shot. Off I went, and after a few miles, I found myself in 12th position with “Andy_UP” and “Denny44.” These two riders were very strong, so I was pleased to stay with them. We caught up to “S.Ludford” and passed him, as we did with “Tom-MMW” – another two strong riders. At this point, I was in the top 10. On the last climb, we were all pulling between 4.1 and 4.6 watts per kilogram all the way up, alongside “Ghostkiller.” I don’t know how we managed it. On the way down, I pushed hard and broke free from the pack. I thought “Andy_UP” and “Denny44” would join me, but they didn’t. So, I pushed as hard as I could for the last 4 miles. It felt like watching a solo rider break away from the peloton at the Tour de France, only to be caught right at the end, which did happen. In the end, only “Denny44” managed to pass me. This has to be one of the toughest Muckers Races I’ve ever done. Thanks, Muckers.

For me it was one of the best races so far with amazing sprint at the finish line on Rouvy.

I’ve been battling with chest infection from the end of march this year and finally it feels like it’s gone now. I raced on Zwift yesterday so my legs were already a little tired and I wasn’t expecting too much today. After sort of slow start I decided to try to catch and stay if possible with Mike Hagen, as I know he’s a very strong rider. I think he tried to drop me quite a few times but luckily for me I managed to hang on to his wheel this time. Initially there was a group of 6 or 7 of us but some guys dropped off on the way. So it was me, Mike and Berty-Bassett6 who got together to the last climb. I thought we lost Mike getting close to the top of the climb but he managed to come back to us. I thought it was impossible to catch those two strong Danish riders (nielsbrynnum and tranberg) before we get to the finish line but my legs wanted to cooperate and I decided to go for it. It was an exciting finish! Good effort everyone! Enjoyed today’s race a lot. Thanks!

just watched the recording!! what an amazing finish! Thanks for sharing that and commenting.

    • Mike Hagen says:

Ya, you did almost lose me. I missed a shift and lost a pedal, lost so much time trying to reclip. So hard to recover from blips like that. But no way I could stay with you at the end. That was amazing.

      • yayarecki says:

Thanks! Super strong effort from you too. You pushed me to the limit but it was a nice race. See you in the next one.

    • Niels Brynnum says:

Well done Yayarecki !! Excellent finish, – if any rider at yesterdays race deserves an EXTRA applause for the effort its definitely you 👏👏👏👏

      • yayarecki says:

Thank you Niels for your kind comment, I really appreciate it. I thought once you guys get to the top of the climb you’ll be gone and there’s no way we can catch you😁 it was a very exciting finish, thanks!

    • lee marshall says:

Hi – first of all thank you you letting me join in – really enjoyed it in a sadistic way !
I was lucky to get into a small group and managed to hang on when it whittled down to just 3 , I had a taste of things to come when it seemed like I got tag teamed and couldn’t keep up In fear of burning matches , luckily a hill came along and I managed to slowly claw back . I hoped that the three of us would become just 2 and give me a chance of just drafting home , and I thought it worked but we soon got back to being a three , knowing my lack of sprint I knew I was doomed and slowly watched my draft disappear then just rolled across line – but really enjoyed the race and hopefully will do more and get to know you all well done everybody !

  7. Andy_UP says:

So every race I start in the front or second group, have to let go in the second half and then Denny passes me. When there is a serious hill in the second half, Kyle also passes me. Both I usually don’t see in the riders behind in the first half. So change of tactics, I was going to stay with those 2 and see if this works out any different/better. So started, saw Denny 2 places begind and got in his wheel. I saw Ludford, Chack and Ghoskiller getting smaller and creating a gap. Those riders I normally can follow till the finish and when I play it right, finish before them. It was really hard and against my nature to let them ride. Stick to the plan. Follow Denny. Didn’t take long before me, Denny and Kyle where alone and keeping a nice but not to high pace. I even managed to take a few pulls, but mainly I was saving some energy for the hill. As expected, they started the hill above 4w/kg. I can do that a while but this hill is too long for me, I know that. They kept the pace around 4.2w/kg and about halfway I really started to suffer, but I pushed on. We passed Ludford, Chak and Tom, seems like my tactics really is working out! Before the last red bit, I was on max heart rate and everything hurts but the top was so close so I bit trough the pain and rode like the finish was at the top. Must have been a sight when we reached the top, as I was gasping for air and sweat flew around the room. Kyle even had to let us go for 30m near the top, and that’s out top mountain goat! So it was me, Denny and Ghoskiller racing for 8th, 9th and 10th place, but Kyle surely would catch up in the downhill so how where we going to beat Ghostkiller and place these 3 Muckers in the race report? Kyle flew past on the downhill and powered on, we let him go. On the flats I took Ghoskiller wheel, he did a great pull and as he let his power drop for me to take over, I took off and kept going around 6w/kg. He tried to follow but soon he wanted Denny to do his part. He was doing his part, but for the Muckers and didn’t pull. Denny being the strongest of us 3 could lose Ghoskiller any time, and he did once the gap was big enough. He closed the gap to me as I almost had Kyle and no surprise, he claimed 8th spot. I was very pleased with 10th and the fun race I had. Sorry Ghostkiller, I hope you understand 😉

  8. Henrik Jørgensen says:

This Thursday’s race was a treat with many small hills and a climb about 2/3 of the way to the finish. We quickly got about 4-5 men in front. to my delight there were even 2 other Danes with Tranbjerg and Niels Brynnum. I get the two very well from the domestic Royvyligaen.dk which is run from September to March for Danish riders. They are strong people, and when Karel Šousek was also in the front group, it was driven fast. maybe a little too fast for the two Danes (and a fifth rider I don’t remember.. maybe Tom or something) had suddenly fallen behind and Karel and I were alone. We drove and enjoyed ourselves and when we reached the climb we were followed nicely along most of the way. Since there were about 2-300 meters to the top, I had a plan that I would have a head start on the descent. So I gave full throttle towards the top and made a hole of about 30 metres. But a few meters from the top, something happened that shouldn’t happen🫣 I completely exploded, lungs and legs were completely exhausted, and the pulse was at maximum. It came like lightning from a clear sky, very strange what happened. But the result was of course that Karel was able to lace me up quietly on the descent, drive past a helpless cyclist and drive towards the finish line as a deserved winner. I only recovered just before the line and had nothing to fight with. Fun to try with not something I want again😂

  9. Niels Brynnum says:

Tuff climb in the end 😰 I went away with the 2 strongest riders 💪💪Tuden and Karel_S from the beginning of the race, however they were pushing really hard, but I knew it was going to be impossible to stay with them all the way to the finish line. Another Dane, Tranberg and TOM-MWW joined the front group, but it was clear that none of us had the strength to follow Tuden and Karel_S who took off and left Tranberg, TOM-MWW and myself in the chasing group. TOM-MWW was strong👍and took his turns in the group, however Tranberg was clearly avoiding taking his turns, but again that is racing 🙂 It seemed that TOM-MWW was struggling at the small hills, but he managed to close the gap several times however before the final climb the elastic band broke and Tranberg and I continued together. After the last climb it seemed as both Tranberg and I was at the edge. I noticed, we had a small gap to the chasing group, but I was quite sure the gap was big enough….but then came the tornado from Poland Yayarecki, – teaching 2 danes a lesson 👊, incredible finish 👏👏 Thanks for sharing the video.

  10. Tom says:

Was my first rouvy for a while, couldn’t get across to the first two, they where just too strong to get onto from the start. Was hoping to stay in the group of three until the end but I couldn’t manage to get the Watts out for the climbs, it just seemed to drop off whether I churned or spun fast, smart trainer felt not smooth.
I think I will try a recalibration and maybe check my technique on a just ride before my next race.
Anyways, I just dropped back on every climb. Which was a shame as I enjoyed it, would of been happier to sustain a top 5.
Hope to see you all online again soon 👍🏻

  11. Denny44 says:

I wasn’t sure how fast I can ride tonight. Had a hard sunday ride in my legs with more than 4200hm. I started not to fast and was surprised to be together with Kyle and AndyUP. Andy is usually a fast starter and in the front group. I expected Steven in my group but this time he was in the front group. Different tactics from Andy and Steven. Andy, Kyle and me worked well together. The pace was quite high and when we reached the big climb I was already a bit tired. I pushed at 4.0 to 4.3 W/kg and Andy and Kyle followed me. We passed Steven and we were chasing Ghostkiller. Usually ghostkiller is very strong at the climbs so I had no hope to get to his wheel. When I saw that we were getting closer I pushed even more. It was extremly hard and I reached 95% of my max heart rate. But at the top Andy, ghostkiller and me were together. Kyle was behind us and had a little gap of 30m. I tried to recover at the downhill and noticed that Kyle reached our group, used the draft and attacked. I could follow but didn’t and waited what ghostkiller was doing. Nothing happend and Kyle was flying away. He pushed hard. Then Andy attacked with full speed and launched his rockets. Ghostkiller wanted to follow Andy but I didn’t support him and try to help my mucker team members. When Andy was 70m ahead I knew that he will bring this to the finish line. So I started my attack with 6.0 W/kg. Ghostkiller tried to stay with me and I had to push for a half a minute to get away. After he lost my wheel I tried to get to Andy and Kyle. They were riding really fast and giving everything they had. With a huge effort by myself I reached them. My legs were burning and my heart rate was at 95% max. At the last km I used my high speed and passed Kyle and was 10 m ahead at the finish. What a great ride with great team work and a high power output. Didn’t expect that tonight. Good result for the muckers. Sorry ghostkiller, usually you beat us but not tonight 🙂
