MUCKERS French Adventure Race Night. 04/07/23

Rouvy Route Used : Paris – The City of Love | 7.24 miles long | 111ft climbing

Route 5 from the French Adventure Challenge and Race 2 of the Night.

23 Registered | 15 Finishers | 3 DNF | 5 DNS

Rouvy have launched a strange little challenge that they’ve got this little route included, plus, the “Col Du Tourmalet”!!?? So As this it too short to have a stand alone race, i tagged it onto tonight’s race, but was worried I’d not given much time to people to register by doing it just 4 days ago!

We still managed to get 23 registered onto it so I was very grateful to everyone for feeling they could get on this one with such short notice. 18 at the start line so it was going to be a great race!

From the gate, the top 6 went all out and gapped 7th straight away. The all worked together really well and managed to keep pulling out the gap to 7th all the way to the end. A few little surges here and there and then gone! Yep, “karel_sousek” went and got the win with “MikeHagen” chasing down for 2nd and “RWaite001” just behind in 3rd.

20 seconds later and the rest of the top 6 came over the line ( All Muckers Worldwide Riders) in the order “mgk1971”, “Andy_UP” and “Mucker1974” getting a top 10 finish for the first time in a race that had more than 10 finishers! 🤨

2 more muckers next with “denny44” in 7th and “kylofski” in 8th, Then Swiss rider “Misterpiero10” in a nice 9th place.

Last mention? 7th Muckers Worldwide Rider in the top10 : “Ryanio_Bianchi” who did have a bit of a nightmare first race so I’m glad he got a decent result here.

Well done everyone, that was a fast race and you did well to finish it. See you at the next one!

Cheers

Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

6th!! ME!!?? I know I’d saved myself for this, but at some points I was actually in 1st and taking the lead for a few seconds now and then. I do quite like these flatish city routes so I knew I was going to be ok if I could just get into the first group and try to draft as much as possible. Did this and we were a nice group 0f 6 and we pulled away from 7th all the way so I knew if I could just hang on, I was on for a top 6 finish at worse! Several times it looked like i was getting dropped but i dug deep to get the gap back which eventually killed any chance of a kick from me at the end. The kick was way to strong for me at the end anyway and i came over the line the 6th best which was pretty much spot on as those 5 in front are all way stronger than myself. Enjoyed that.

This is the third time I’ve done Paris, and it wasn’t my fastest, but it was definitely the most fun. Really nice to ride with a bunch of Mucker teammates! Mucker1974 was leading us to the intermediate split and I’m yelling, “Hey, guys, guys,” I’m saying, “Let Fearless Leader Neil take the prime!,” but no one was listening. Karel finally did an attack, too strong for the rest of us. He clearly doesn’t think much of group sprints. Me neither. I did my best Karel impression a little later and RWaite001 went with me. So we did the SST (stupid sprint thing) at the end anyway, and I had *just* enough left to pip him. Fun!

After the really tough first race, I decided I was going to take the second race easy, as it was as flat as a plank of wood, about 7 miles with 100 ft of climbing. At the start, I was taking it easy when “Denny44” passed me. He had mentioned in the chat before the race that he was also taking it easy. He went past me, and I jumped on his wheel. He more or less pulled me all the way around Paris. In the last 0.5 miles, I tried to race him to the finish line, but he just beat me to it AGAIN. Well done, “Denny44”! You are a machine. See you all next week.

My 2 compagnions on the first race said they were going to take it easy. Not me, I want to race! So gave my 6w/kg in the first seconds and this brought me to my surprise in first position. Where is Tuden? Where are all those super fast riders? OK, I see Karel, that’s one. Is see Mike, very strong also. But nobody who would blast off and solo this to the finish, this is going to be fun! 6 of us in the leading group and look, it’s Mucker, the boss is here and even taking pulls! I just know he is enjoyng this and it’s putting a smile on my face. I hung on until the last 2K, tried to get away from MGK but my leggs reminded me of the hard previous race, so coudn’t. Strolled to the finish and Neil didn’t want to overtake me. Guess he didn’t feel alright with the fact of putting his name above mine. As I see he is celebrating his 6th place, 5th would maybe be too much for him to handle and result in being drunk all night, so he made the right call.

Completely missed the start of this race by 5min🫣 sat and rolled quietly on the bike while I wrote with a few different ones on Strava 🥴 very inattentive to the time to the start. Stupid and my second mistake that day🙈 But got started and also picked up a few riders, but not enough for a top 10. But looking at my time on the route, I could well have been at the very front. too bad 👏👏👏

That was a great race guys. I’ll be honest I hate racing so I don’t do as many of these races as I once did but I do enjoy mine and Neil’s little rivalry that we’ve had since he first posted on Facebook that he was starting these races.
I completely blew up at the end in the last 100 meters and well done Mike, you pipped me to the line by a tyres width, but I was happy with my 3rd place.
Thanks for organising these events Neil, like I said I hate racing but I’ll try and compete a little more often, to keep the numbers up if nothing else.

  7. Matthias G. K. says:

I have to apologize at Andy and Neil. It was my first ride this evening, I spend most of the time drafting as I’m not fit after trying to keep the back wheel of Pavel and Hagen. But at the end there was my terrain – slightly uphill. So Andy and Neil got dropped.

No need to apologize. It’s a race and sometimes the strongest wins, sometimes the smartest. I think (of the 3 of us) you were both.
