MUCKERS LA VUELTA THURSDAY RACE NIGHT. 14/09/23
ROUVY Route Used: La Vuelta 2023| Stage 18 – La Cruz de Linares | 17.27 miles long | 2562ft climbing

We are getting close to completing this El diablo challenge on Rouvy now and tonight we saw one of the toughest routes yet! Looed not too bad on paper, maybe a bit hilly, but once you looked into it, it was basically a flat beginning, a 2500ft climb for 6 miles, a nice down hill then a long flat section! The climb seemed to last forever and was just soo steep! lets see how we did!
top 3 consisted of the top 3 you really wanted to pop there tyres at the start line!!😂 1st over the line came “Tuden” with a nice 40 seconds gap over 2nd place “JoseCostaRonda” who himself had a huge 3 minutes over 3rd place “Karel_sousek”.
4th went to Italian rider “broken79” with 5th place “Stefan793” a few minutes behind. Really strong rides with the top 5 completing this route in under 60 minutes.
6th comes top placed Muckers Worldwide team rider “nielsbrynnum” who finished with a nice gap in front of the sprint off for the next 4 places!
this sprint was won by “Minyana” in 7th, “transberg” in 8th, then a duo of Muckers Worldwide Team Riders rounding out the top 10 with “tomlerieger” in 9th and “Kylofski” in that all important last mention place in 10th!
24 more of you crossed this finish line and you should all be really proud! We had alot quit on the climb and you guys kept going! Quite a few little sprint races to the line all the way down the leaderboard which you can see by re-watching the live stream recording on the link below:

cheers everyone for racing with us tonight, thank you everyone who keeps joining us week in and week out, team mates and those who help keep this thing going!
Cheers.

Well done to all 34 who finished this tonight! What a horrendous climb!! Thank you so much to Shoffmann for the constant pressure up the climb, then the draft along the long last flat section, then the sprint to the finish! I Know i’ve said this many a time before but, when you have that one person that you can just have a great race against, it really doesn’t matter what position you finish and only racing can give you this experience!
I tried to catch up Slyfly in the descent without success, I should have waited for you and Shoffmann on top instead.
A little nervous tonight on two counts. 1st; quite a big climb to haul 96kg over … and 2nd; a mobile engineer changed my right crank and power meter this morning in a warranty exchange for the previous power meter that was ‘out of range’. Had this faulty meter been helping or hindering me in the race results, only tonight would tell with a new ‘perfectly in range’ power meter. The eventual ‘IF’ score of 0.98 satisfied that question and quashed any doubts I had. Now, what about that climb? I started very calmly and took shelter and draft as much as I could to the base of the climb, I then aimed to maintain a nice rhythm between 3.0 – 3.2w/kg all the way up. After riding slowly away from a few riders at the bottom I spent a while near ‘runeholtzmann’ and ‘jusnjobt’ but I refused to follow any small attacks and my gradual pace eventually worked in my favour and I finished the climb keeping a 300ft gap to ‘bazak.oztan’. I half considered waiting for Bazak to team up after the descent but felt it would risk extending the gap to ‘ilcapitano1988’ who, at half mile ahead, looked safe … until … he started to ride below 2.0w/kg and I thought ahah, a chance. It was a long chase with HR over 170bpm at times (not ideal for an old boy) but made the catch in the barriers, then he fought back, arghhhh, out of the saddle…I’ve come to far to fail, the finish line … so happy to see you.
Tough race tonight. Bike fixed, knee feeling better (hopefully). In my head, I was thinking to pace myself. Set a steady pace, hit the climb at 3.8 – 4.0 W/KG, hoping to keep this up for the entire climb. I passed a few Muckers on the hill and caught up to “Ghostkiller” and “tomlerieger.” We changed positions a few times on the climb. I had 1000ft left, my legs were dead, but I had to keep this up; otherwise, I would get caught by “rouvy1bryon.”
I reached the top, and “tomlerieger” and I dropped “Ghostkiller.” It was 5 and a half miles at the bottom. How the hell can I keep this up? Thanks to “tomlerieger” for letting me jump on your wheel. We caught “tranberg” and “Minyana.” The four of us raced for the last 2 miles.
With 500 meters to go, I got dropped. I didn’t care; I had 10th position, and I was getting a mention on the Muckers Race report.
A tough, strange stage, as I was always looking for attack teams but seeing the names close together I knew it would be tough. Kyle waved me bye (new avatar option 🤔🤣), like S. Loudford on the infinite climb. Maybe my 9V iron isn’t the best, but we’re going for it anyway. I wanted to stay close to Rogerstrainer and kingmagic (who passed me on the uphill split) but I was slowly losing ground.
I decide to shoot for a full throttle descent and finish, but in the end I arrived 1 minute from 20th and 7” from my rival Kibgmagic. Tonight 23th with confidence. But I wonder why I didn’t recover more (I was at 2.8/3.0 w and those in front were running at 0.5/1.0 w downhill 🤔).
Until the next challenge 💪
Bizarrely I really enjoyed this race, laptop failed to load Rouvy, so the time it took to reboot, I started last in 41st place, 6 minutes after the start. Took me ages to catch anyone up, wasn’t until the 3.5 mile mark, I managed to pass a few riders, plenty of dns on the climb, and lots of carrots to aim for. Only a few familiar names, I managed to pass 5 or 6 riders, including Roy, saw Mucker74, when his sprint to the line, and i just managed to beat Lucdu91 to the finish, and managed to roll in 28th. Many thanks to Neil and Kyle for their hard work, and giving me the motivation to ride competitively
I didn’t look forward to this climb. Knee felt bad and my entire body was so tiered. For once I planned to do a fixed pace, 3.0 but from the start I did an easier race towards the climb. Was at a stunning 32th place. Then when I hit the climb I could easily do 3.2-3.4 most of the time and started to gain in on some riders. Fougth my way back and finish 20th few meters behind my fellow countryman runeholtzmann. I felt this one was an easy climb comparing to other on the Vuelta challenge.
After a dissapointing power output last 1.5 week, I decided not too go to hard at the start. Managed to stay in a nice group untill the climb. They all started going 4w/kg up this climb. Did that for a few min. but I knew I couldn’t keep doing this so when I started to feel it, I went to 3,5. To my surprise, I could keep it around 3,5 untill the top. Worked together with Flyger on the flats, that was nice. Pavel was closing in near the end and made Flyger a bit nervous so he pulled a bit too hard, too long. I started the sprint early, 500m to go, just as Pavel almost cought us. I didn’t want him to catch his breath, just as Flyger who did the most pulling near the end. Happy to win a sprint finish this time. Also happy with my 30min power output.
Tuff climb 😬😬😬 JoseC and the strongest Dane Tuden by far, – kind of had their own race right from the start 🚀🚀. I gathered with the chasing group behind JoseC and Tuden towards the climb. It was obvious that in our group that there was a lot of respect for the climb to come as the majority of the riders only enjoyed the draft 😎 😎 As we entered the climb, I tried to stay with 💪 Karel_Sousek💪 but I could not keep up with his pace. Half way up the climb, I got passed by Stefan793 and from that point I was on my own all the way to the finishline 😉
Me gusta y me sirve como un buen entrene de intensidad participar en vuestras carreras…
Pero hecho de menos poder ver mas informacion sobre mis rivales ( ppm, w…) para poder tener mis propias conclusiones.
Seguid asi…animo
For tonight’s race, a really sneaky route had been found. It has a bit of everything. basis for a really fast start, a wicked climb, then a long descent, and finally a long flat stretch towards the finish. The route can be attacked in many different ways, so I chose to focus only on the first half. This is because the last half with the descent is so long and steep that you achieve top speed and basically do not need to step on the pedals. This should mean that you get to the bottom fresh and can give it maximum on the flat. Well, back to the chosen tactic. The first part to the climb is not very long, so just full speed ahead, as a start now often is anyway. And the climb itself, I wanted to try to see if I could drive at about 110%, which might be a bit crazy, but I would rather die trying than not have tried at all. Jose Costa and I got to the climb first and he immediately tried with small jerks to shake me off, quite as he usually does. Normally I would try to go along with those jerks but wanted to stick to my 110% plan. This results in Mr Costa several times getting a distance of 30-40 meters down to me. But each time I reeled him back in by keeping a steady pace. And then, what I’ve been waiting for in so many races against him happened. About halfway up the climb, the miracle I had been waiting for happened. Jose Costa broke. He exploded and his W/kg quietly went the wrong way. At that time I was about 25m behind him, and getting closer all the time. When I got up to him, I actually thought he might just be gathering strength. But No… I could just drive away from him and he didn’t come along. It almost gave me superpowers, and I increased the pace even more. In no time I had made a lead of about 300 m. I was riding on pure adrenaline, and could feel lactic acid up above both ears, and just before the top I was honestly about to throw up on the garage floor. But held on to the top and could now enjoy the ride down the descent and recover a bit. When I reached the bottom and drove into the last flat section, I knew that the victory was a reality, and drove controlled to the finish as the winner 🥇. Mega cool route that we can easily drive another time for my sake 😉 I was also happy to see that there were as many as three Danes in the top 10👏👏👏 really strong when you think of our relatively small size and that the country’s highest point is only 145m above sea level 😁 Big thanks to the people behind Mucker’s and to everyone who took part in tonight’s race.
Glad to read you went in 110 %, – you would have ruined my weekend if you had wrote “easy steady 70-80 %” 🤣🤣🤣 When you finished yesterdays race, I was still missing 6.2 km 😖😖You need to tell me, what you eat for breakfast… 😉
Thanks for The information also for me 🤣
Before the start, I had quite a lot of respect for the climb and the whole route. So let’s start with a solid warm-up of 20′, to be prepared
After the starting signal and even before the climb I was in a group for 15th -20th place. In the climb I tried to find a rhythm between 3.5 and 4W. Kyle approached from behind and I knew he was one who drives up the mountain calmly and consistently. I took his wheel and We drove briskly with 3.9W, overtook some riders on the incline and closed the gap to «Tranberg» and «Minyana». After the downhill we had a gap of 200m to the two, which I was able to close. Kyle and I worked together, but unfortunately the other two didn’t take part in the tour. My plan was to attack 1km before the finish, but this was not successful because the pace was always over 40km/h. Unfortunately, the two overtook us in the final sprint, but we secured 9th and 10th place for the team “Muckers worlwide”!
Respect and congrats for all finishers, this was though! cheers Tom
3 small kids, so you never know if you will be able to join on these night races, but I was on the bike 2 minutes before race start. Fortunately, it was a flat start, so decided to warm-up in that section. I entered the climb at 26th position and from then on I just tried to find a steady, but hard effort, and I managed to do so with only “srichards” passing me (but eventually fading near the top). I catched Minyana just at the top and crossed in 8th position, so quite satisfied with that climb. Minyana and I did not have the best cooperation on the flat. I tried to take some steady pulls, but he would either go 2 w/kg or 5 w/kg, so it smashed the dynamics. Eventually “tomlerieger” and “kylofsky” pulled us in, and I actually took a couple of pulls (it’s true, Tom), before settling at the back of the group and trying to annoy Minyana a bit by trying to slow him out of the group as he was not pulling at all. That did not work, and in the end, it was a big sprint, where Minyana were the strongest. But really fun race – and a good but tough route!
No estoy de acuerdo contigo…. en el llano tras la bajada… intente que no nos cogieran por detras y daba relevos fuertes… si es cierto que al ver que nos cogían baje el ritmo…
Ahora eso si… estuvo divertido 🦾🧠🦾
