MUCKERS 2026 SEPTEMBER CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 2.

ROUTE AND RACE DETAILS:

Laurel Hill SP to Kooser SP | PA | USA | 14.48 miles | 1,772 ft. elevation

ROUVY SAY: The long mountain ridges of Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands provide multiple opportunities for scenic climbs and descents and this route via two of Pennsylvania’s state parks is no exception. We begin in the valley east of Laurel Ridge, meandering through beautiful Laurel Hill State Park. Then we bear west to climb Laurel Mountain via County Line Road and Jones MIll Run Road. To enhance the realism, I’ve included a missed turn and subsequent 180 degree turn in a chuch parkling lot. But no worries…that little diversion was only a few hundred meters in length. On the climb up gravelly Jones Mill Run Road through state game lands you’ll notice an unusual number of parked pick-up trucks… Not surprising given that we filmed on the first day of deer hunting season! After summiting we enjoy a fast, staight paved descent on State Route 31 eastbound before finishing the ride with a pleasant lake loop in Kooser State Park.

WE SAY: Tricky set up dilemma here! only 14.5 miles long, but 1772ft UP! It’s not exactly a full on climb, neither is it a flat roller, but we do have drafting tonight…….. wonder what everyone went for……

*Ballast added to this table

The Aim here is to get into the top 50 positions by the end of each 4 week period. If you do, you get World Championship points that are updated every month for the year.

Top 10 at the end of the Month get ballast added which is basically a percentage figure your points get deduced by and lasts for the whole of the year

We use your best 10 Months Out of 12 for the world championship.

WHATS NEXT TO COME:

Remember you are more than welcome to come and race with us on any of our races even if the championships are of no interest to you. The more the merrier!! These championships are just here as extra motivation and fun ways to train.

Sunday Hill Climb (aka the Sunday hill climb championship)

Alpine Panorama route | Stage 3 | Glarus – Flüelen | 53.48 miles | 5,764 ft

OMG! this is a big ride! If you thought last weeks was tough, this is longer but luckily the climb happens in the first half and not after a 25 mile flat like last weeks!! But this will still be tough one!

Search “Muckers Sunday” in the event search function on ROUVY to find all the scheduled climbs we have created so far. All start times included in the championship.

Tuesday Race Night (aka the w/kg training championship)

Th e 2.5w/kg week! we use:

Over Totland and Frotveit | Bergen | Norway | 17.9 miles | 1,719 ft. elevation.

I think we all know that a flat-up-flat-downhill-flat table top looking route means we’ve gotta get some watts in the bag by the time we do the downhill! These 2.5 versions are where some of us go from “watts-shedding” to “watts-harvesting” 😂

We also have a warm-up race this week coming using:

Madison River Canyon | Montana | 12.51 miles | 190 ft. elevation.

we start at 18:30 which gives us a nice 35 minutes to get this downhill done and be on the start line for the 2.5 race.

Search “Muckers Tuesday” in the event search function on ROUVY to find all the scheduled races we have created so far at the 6 different start times. All start times included in the championship

Thursday Race Night (aka the world championship)

Round 3! we use a fast looking downhill route!!

St. Mary Downhill | Montana | 18.08 miles | 387 ft. elevation

for those power houses and heavier riders, this is your race!

Search “Muckers championship” in the event search function on ROUVY to find all the scheduled races we have created so far at the 7 different start times. All start times included in the championship

TO FINISH OFF:

Thank you to the 112 riders who took part this weeks event. 15 of you DNF’d, which leaves 97 who finished and we only had 10 riders out of that 97 who didn’t use any type of heart rate sensor. So 87 all in is brilliant and i hope you all enjoyed it! But you can feel it’s getting very competitive and filling up now! When having to average over 3.0w/kg is the only way to give yourself a chance of those nicer top 50 points, you know the “easy” summer months are over!

Another thank you is to everyone who jumped into the comments last week. 60 comments!! And not 50% mine!! Result!! But what a great read it was and hopefully we get the same engagement this week! But the TT race does seem to get everyone thinking…. a lot!!

That about wraps this up. look forward to your comments and as per usual, thank you all for reading this blog to the end. Appreciate it.

I actually can’t complain about tonight. Had my first rest day yesterday since coming back off my holiday as i’ve been trying my best to get through the routes i missed but 8 days on the trot and i just needed a break even if it was to try and fix the wattbikes gear issue thats been spoiling my last few rides.

Fixed those yesterday and made the choice to go aero just to at least have some speed and a chance to stay in anyone’s draft! Set off and was soon with sunniva and 4worldpeice so knew i was with my fastest rivals so tried my best to stay with them till i couldn’t, all in the hope it got me far enough along to set a decent time at the end. climbed quite well, staying around 2.7s and managed to do this all the way to the top of the last climb, luckily in the company of Ste Ludford as 2 heavyweights drafting each other on that final decent meant we blew past the rider who passed us a while back at the top of the last climb and didn’t give him a sniff of joining us lol.

competition is now tough! This result would have got me 30-40th a few months back. now its 60th. But when you feel you actually raced the route in front of you as best as you could, in the condition you are in at this moment, then the “number” doesn’t really matter. I feel pretty happy with it. Lets see if i can improve a little bit more next week! 🤞

    • Brian Westfall (4WorldPeace) says:

Great riding with you Neil! Next week is your race so my plan is to try and stay on your wheel but, those are high hopes!!🤩

  2. Steven Ludford says:

Did an outside off road ride earlier in the day and noted I wasn’t feeling great performance wise. Combined with tonights 2000ft over a short distance my pre-race outlook wasn’t too optimistic.

I started at 2.9w/kg knowing there would be enough draft to the early climb and thinking it was a power I should be able to sustain for 50 minutes. Everyone rode into the distance on the climb, thanks to Yayarecki who seemed to be helping me for a little while. I managed to slowly reach Mucker1974 and hoped I could stay close so we could work the descents together, alarmingly, I reached a 10 year high 183bpm (with 15 minutes over 180) so something was ‘off’ tonight, although, if it had been ‘on’ I think very few higher positions would have been possible.

Great to see the rider numbers increasing, happy to scrap for points whoever I’m racing.

  3. Eric H. (UncleE64) says:

Reasonably happy with how today’s ride turned out given that I dropped my chain a quarter mile into the little rise just before the first categorized climb. I had a good start – maybe a little too fast (what’s new!?) but latched onto a nice group that included El_Tractor and Duckman2 who I knew could be nice carrots for me on the climbs. I was able to stick with the group through the fist 2 short climbs – happy about that – and then dropped the chain. I got it back on without dismounting, but still lost 15-20 seconds and found myself in no-mans land. Looking back, I could see Mikeee73, LinV, ValRdz, 4WorldPeace, and Sunniva, but couldn’t make out on my phone of they were split or all working together. I was worried!

It may have been that the chain drop was actually a good thing – possibly kept me from trying to stay with the group I was in for too long and blowing up. Anyway, I got going again and hooked up with another rider (sorry don’t remember who). We crested together and worked the downhill nicely but I could still see Mikeee73, LinV, and ValRdz not far back. Went a bit too hard at bottom part of the last climb and decided to let the other rider go. Rode Z3 power for 60 seconds to get my heartrate back down a bit and then gave it everything I had left for the remaining 5 minutes – sprinting over the top as if it was the end of the race. Caught up to Browser on the way down, but he dispatched me pretty easily in the final sprint. Managed to hold off the pursuers though which gives me some confidence for future hilly routes!
Looking at the results afterwards, I do wish I’d had a chance to try and hold onto the earlier group. Big difference of 11 points between 45th overall and the 48th (where I ended up) which might really help at month end. Of course if Mick_Michel does all 4 events it likely won’t matter!

After reviewing earlier rider times and watching the race prior I wasn’t quite sure how well I would manage the climbs. My plan was to just ride as hard as I could and hope I could hook up with a rider or group on the descents. Well that’s prettier much how it worked out. Rode with sunniva and Andy_Up until the finish and earlier with ValRdz and LinV for awhile but, as expected could not hold on for long. sunniva, Andy_Up, and I worked well together on the climbs and the descents. And I managed to find a way to hold them off on the final kicker. I was very happy with my final time. Quite a but less then I projected and when I saw all of the strong riders ahead of me either outside the top 50 or just inside of it, the sting of finishing 55th wasn’t as bad. Gave it my all says my metrics. Next week is going to be a fast one so we will see!!

My best 4 minute 40 second W of the year off the line (good enough to see MatthiasHeil doing his trick) and my best 2 minute W to the top of the first climb, but where did it get me? Dropped! Worse, several chief rivals had managed to stick with the lead group. Waited for the chase group and teamed up with Barttt, we got away, and we overhauled a few riders including simonjp (not using the D word!). I like to think we were gaining on the group ahead on the last climb and the last 5 km descent, but they were too far ahead for it to matter. Great teamwork though. This was a real tough bumpy route; kudos to all that finished.

great collab!! we were in nomansland most of the race so it was extra helpful to take turns on the front, see ya next one

  6. Tomáš Hloušek says:

Before the start, I felt tired and unmotivated (I’ll be away next Thursday and will be riding a flat, non-drafting race). So, I just decided to stay near the front on the first small climb. I managed that somehow, and then I just suffered—trying to stick with the group on the climbs while being of almost no help to the others on the flats and descents. I think I only managed it because Mads and Eddy decided not to drop me. I rode part of the final climb alone and was afraid Eddy and Mick would simply pull away and I’d never see them again. Eddy decided to stay with me. Even though it was just the two of us, we caught Mick on the descent, despite him putting out more power. He didn’t give us a chance in the sprint, though; plus—for some reason—Eddy basically sat out the sprint, so to my surprise, I finished ahead of him. Comparing my power output with the riders around me shows just how much stronger they are and how I spent almost the entire time hiding in the draft outside of the climbs. It’s also quite obvious who was riding over the summer and who wasn’t. Mick, from category A6, finished ahead of me (I’m in A2); there were too few riders in the races for me to drop down a category, even though that’s how I ended up here. I think in two months, Mick and I will both be in A4, and he’ll be the favorite to move up to A3.

    • Michael Michelius says:

Tomas (and also Eric), you’re putting way too much pressure on my shoulders. One good result doesn’t make a champion – or as we say in Germany, one swallow doesn’t make a summer! 😁 Anyway, that was a hell of a ride!

  7. Michael Michelius says:

Spent the summer riding outdoors and soaking in everything that makes cycling so special. Now the days are getting shorter, the weather’s turning, and it’s time to head indoors again.

When I saw today’s route, I knew: this is gonna be brutal. Hard it was, but an absolute blast too! To my surprise, I managed to hang on to the front groups (at my absolute limit!). Eventually, I lost contact and found myself with Tomas and “EddyDomino”. On the final climb, I launched an attack and snapped the elastic, but they reeled me back in on the descent. So I sat in, saved every watt, and prepped for the sprint finish – worked out pretty sweet! 🔥

16th place is just crazy!! Losing weight since the beginning of the year has definitely paid off! 📉🚴‍♂️

Ready for some nice battles, guys!! 🚀
