MUCKERS SUNDAY MORNING 100KM PRIZE JERSEY CRIT 15/10/23
ROUVY Route Used : SwissTri Linthathlon | 4.41miles | 55.77ft | 15 laps!
71 Registered | 23 Finishers (2 without HR data) | 14 DNF | 34 DNS
15 laps of a pretty flat route, fells quite easy when you first look at it, but any 100km grand fondo is gonna be hard! We really needed numbers on this to get the maximum help from the draft and seeing 71 registered just before the start meant this might actually happen! This translated to 37 on the start line, but as i set off last, i was in 30th so this was going to be tough!
Those regular riders/reader will know this amount on the start line means a top 10 mention only, but this type of effort deserves a mention to everyone who finishes this. Also our rules a regulations mean we need to be friends so i can see your HR data, but for this one, if i see it on strava, i will allow it. But this is an exception as it was a massive effort and i have the time to go looking.
“Alan-H” just beat “karel-souseck” to first. After 66 miles they were 2 seconds apart and reading Karels comments to Alan on Strava, I get that he’s well known and respected and his data on Strava looks legit. Well one guys and sounds like it was a great race between you both.
We then wait 6 minutes for the next pack of 3, with Top Muckers Worldwide rider “nielsbrynnum” leading them over the line to claim a podium but one of these 3 doesn’t show HR anywhere so unfortunately I can’t include them which means regular Sunday racer “Kaihu” gets the bump up to 4th place. “pjjj” actually unfriended me a few days ago, but sent a message which translated to a comment about todays race so a little confused by that, but his Strava data is there so it looks fine so i can award him “5th” for today but if he wants to be included during the week he knows what to do. 6th goes to “EL_Tractor” and 7th to the 2nd Muckers Worldwide team rider “Svard” who wants more of these types of races, then next 8th is awarded to “Tonda103” who looks to have been in a little no-mans land.. wonder if he was dropped or was actually catching them??
Next we have a group of 3 in the 18th minute behind the leader bracket, which was lead by the British rider “Tubbyt” for 9th, followed by Danish rider “Kingmagic” for 10th, then German regular rider “Stefan_Smit” in 11th.
3rd Muckers Worldwide team rider over the line “Andy_UP” next in 2th, just in front of Zone 4 HR lover “Grochang” in 13th, just in front of recent addition to the Muckers Team “Squallo_delle_Alpi” in 14th with a small gap back to 15th place “Brainport”
Finish Duo “Kkimmo” and “jyrkip” come next in 16th and 17th place with a very consistent ride together , with “Mucker1974” following them over the line next in 18th place.
2 more Muckers take the next 2 places with “kylofski” in 19th and “S.Ludford” in 20th then the final position goes to “Sidlo62” with 21st who was quite far back and 51 minutes behind the leader, but, this rider beat 14 other riders at the end of the day that quit! That’s some endurance you have in those lets!
Well done to you all for finishing this! please leave a comment in the comments section on how this race went from your perspective as this was an epic race and it’d be great to know how you handled it!
see you at the next one!

eventful. missed the start by 30 seconds so had to put a little bit more into it than wanted to at the start but I also wanted to beat my last effort of 3 hours and this was just not the start i wanted! caught a few up and ended up in a nice group with a lap down gunerra and we were setting some nice lap times and on track to beat my last time. And relax…… NOPE one team mate who will remain nameless 🙄 decided to go hard to catch up another mucker so inevitably dropped me ( his little power kick is just too strong for me to hang onto and i didnt want to burn myself out) and i was stuck solo and loosing time now. Trying to keep/get into some kind of form and i eventually got into a rhythm as the 2 closing Finnish riders crept up but i was able to jump on with them and i was determined to stay in their draft for as long as humanly possible! We caught 2 Muckers, We passed 2 Muckers but i wasn’t loosing that draft again so just kept with them. 2 laps from the end i was struggling to stay in the draft and when the last lap started, i just couldn’t do it anymore and they dropped me. but i had a 0.8 mile gap to the rider behind so i decided just to get it home for the last lap as the 2 Finnish riders had pulled me into a very nice position to be able to let off and still beat my 3 hour target. hope those guys read this and see how much it helped me! cheers.
High hopes at the start, flat route and distance held no fears, but it all unraveled quite quickly after the halfway point. Managed to find a strong group very quickly at the start with, TubbyT, Kingmagic, Grochang, Squalo delle Alpi & Brainport. Everyone taking turns, some more than others and I definitely gradually spent less time on the front. Teammate Andy_UP fell back into the group and unwittingly this lead to my downfall. I was comfortable with our 2.8-3.0 pace and good for 2 or 3 more laps, Andy suddenly hit the little section under the road bridge for a short time at approx 3.8 and my group all suddenly chased him hard, I watched the magic 50ft drafting distance disappear and instantly knew I was blown out the back. Started to tap along solo at 2.0 pace with Kyle and Neil one mile behind, thinking one or both may need to ‘just get home’ I dropped my pace massively and this was my 2nd downfall. After 2 laps and nearly 10 miles wasting time at half power Neil bridged to me at exactly the wrong moment, he was caught by 2 riders just as we hit the only ‘uphill’ gradient on the course and they all flew right past me before I could get back to speed, which I assumed would be just over 2.0w/kg, wrong, they were suddenly motoring along nearer to 3.0 … Cracked (twice in one race) I looked across at the motorbike cameraman, drew my finger across my throat to inform the viewers I was ‘out’. Cruised the last 2 laps with Sidlo62, although we were 1 lap apart I definitely felt he was helping me home and I am really pleased to see he finished the distance.
well done mate! i’m sorry i couldn’t back off when we came up to you, but i just wanted to stay in that draft id been in for a few laps before and was feeling i could stick with it. So now we’ve done the short one, lets get the long one organized!
Yes sorry, it might be my fault the group you were in started racing. Sitting in that group got boring very fast, they were going so slow oncethey caught me, it’s like I destroyed all chemistry in the group.
You didn’t mention you could enjoy my draft when I laped you. Or was that a secret? Whoops :-p
You lapped me!!! I didn’t think you’d mention it … but maybe you have short memory and never ever ever remind me in the future.
Due to inclement weather, I opted to participate in the Muckers race instead of going mountain biking in the rain. In hindsight, I’m not sure which would have been more challenging!
I started the race with my usual burst of speed, briefly taking the lead before settling into a more sustainable pace. By the halfway point of the first lap, I was in 11th or 12th position alongside “El Tractor.” A top 10 finish seemed out of reach, as normally I start fast, and people pass by. After a while, we picked up fellow Mucker “Andy_UP.” We attempted to work together, but our efforts were not always seamless. Following the second lap, I noticed two riders ahead of us, “Tonda103” and “Pjjj,” who were riding solo but gradually closing in on each other. To secure a top 10 position, I decided to bridge the gap and reach them before they could join forces. I took the lead, and we caught up to them just as they were about to unite. Unfortunately, “Andy_UP” fell behind during this maneuver.
We were now in positions 7 to 10, making a top 10 finish a real possibility. Midway through the race, “Tonda103” was forced to drop back. Initially, I felt as strong as the other two, but as the race progressed, my energy waned. “Pjjj” now did most of the work, while I primarily followed. The gap between us and the group in front and behind us was so significant that there was no need to push to the limit. But the two others were not slowing down. Three laps before the end, the race leaders overtook us. The other two managed to keep up, but I was the first to fall behind. The last three laps were a lonely affair, which wasn’t very motivating. The gap between me and “Tonda103” was 1.5 km, so there was no reason to push myself in the final laps, and I finished in 9th place.
As Neil mentioned, I enjoy these long, flat races with a large field of riders. They most closely resemble the real-life races I typically participate in back in the Netherlands. However, even for me, the proposed 100-mile race seems a bit excessive.
well done mate…. its more like 111 miles the one i want to do next, not 100 miles…… look up the Hawaii Island! i’ve seen it so many times and wonder about doing it a lot! we could arrange stops?
I really enjoy these circuit races 👍I joined a group (Karel_S, Alan H, wards, PFHM and the strong Danish mate m-forby) right from the start. We worked quite well together for the first 40+ km but Karel_S 💪💪and Alan H 💪💪 were clearly the strongest riders in the group and they pulled away from us. m-forby had stopped after 30 km so it was down to wards, PFHM and me. However the super strong Finnish biker Kaihu 💪💪closed the gap to the 3 of us. PFHM got dropped from our group with 10+ km to go. I was not sure how much I had left in the legs for a sprint finish going into the last round. We stay together until about 350 m from the finish line, where I started my sprint and luckily managed to keep a little gap to my mates thought-out the day.
superb result mucker and thank you for the report!
I was looking forward to this day, but it turned out to be a day of struggle. The start went well, but the difficulties started maybe around 10 laps. The leg started cramping (left hamstring) and towards the end it was a struggle with pain, but I made it to the finish line. Thanks to the club nielsbrynnum, Wards and PFHM, it was a good race. Alan-H and karel_sousek went really hard today, congratulations on the first and second place. This was a great race too, although it was a bit difficult for me.
Well done Kai and thank you for the report!
1st ever crit style ride and loved it.
Couple of times had to push deep to stay in a group but always worth it when you get that draft back. Loved how you could draft from lapped riders and riders lapping me.
Will look forward to the next one
65 miles or 105 km of indoor riding – I had never attempted anything like this before. The most I had ever done in a single ride was 40 miles, and that was a long time ago with Neil. The last time I attempted this route, I gave up halfway through. I just found it incredibly monotonous. I set off, and after 25 miles, I was already bored and contemplating quitting.
But then, I thought, ‘Just one more lap to match the Crit race we had last month.’ So, I pushed on, and when I hit 30 miles, I thought, ‘Okay, let’s do one more to make it halfway.’ At 35 miles, Mucker1974 and S. Ludford drew me into a game of catch-up and slowdown. This continued for several laps until Mucker1974 left S. Ludford and me far behind.
Suddenly, I found myself at the 50-mile mark. Only 15 more miles to go. So, I dug deep and pushed on to the end. In the last lap, I raced as fast as I could, achieving my fastest lap of the ride.
The conclusion from today’s race is that your mind plays a bigger role in your race than your body. If you can control your mind, you’ll become a stronger and faster rider. Thanks to the Muckers for helping me complete my first Rouvy GranFondo.
Today, given the long distance, the head becomes a strong ally as well as finding other pilots who want to work as a team 👍
I’m happy with this race, happy because I managed to be consistent over 15 laps and I had never done such a long distance indoors. I worked well with S.Ludford, TubbyT, Kingmagic, Grochang and Brainport, they tried to lend each other a hand, although perhaps Kingmagic was better at hiding and not wasting energy 😉.
I saw Andy up and Stefan_Smit first far away and then closer and closer but no one wanted to capture them… then something changed and we got Andy. At a certain point Andy up, Grochang and Brainport set off at 🚀 and I admired the view. Determined not to give up in the last 4 laps I attacked and recovered from Grochang and Brainport who then gave in on the last lap and so we did a power photo finish wheel wheel me and Groochang… congratulations to everyone 💪
Sorry…Maybe I’ve been hiding, but I broke the record for the last 90 days with 29 watts. And I’m almost dead now 😀
No need to be sorry, tactics are tactics, everybody is thinking how to stay in a group or beat the others in the group – it’s why racing is so much fun. Well done on the record, hopefully you are less dead today.
I love these long endurance races :). In the beginning, the legs felt bad from climbing 1450m in another race. I struggled a lot in the beginning till I found a good group to ride in, alongside Svard. At some point there was the smart move by Svard to close the gap to pjjj and Tonda 103 before they found each other. There was a nice cooperation up to the point were it was just the 3 of us (pjjjj, Svard and me). Svard decided not to ride anymore, so it was up to pjjj and me. When the race leaders overtook us, there was the chance to draft with the big guns. It worked for a while but pjjjj kept disconnecting and returning so I couldn’t use his draft to hold on. There they went. A solo ride to the finish. Looking forward to your 111 Neil 😉
The 1450m climb was yesterday off course, not before the start 😀
Should reread my comments before posting
Crit in the Switzerland with 15x 7km flat lap, in total nice 100 km. We formed group of 6-8 riders after start and everyone looked happy with the situation, knowing it will be long race. Then after 30min i had to go to the toilet, so had small gap 50m, which i closed shortly, but it initiated other attacks in the group and one of them done by Alan H. divided our group further.
Suddenly we were with Alan in breakaway, quite early i would say, but why not? Step by step we increased advantage to the persecutors, once it was clear that winning this race will be between the two of us. Alan did great job in the front in the first half. Once we reached 2h of racing, i felt we both wanted to make it more exciting, so i launched first of many big attacks and Alan counter that. He got small lead by 30m and it took few minutes max effort until we got together again. Then i decided to launch many other attacks for the rest of the race, but Alan could stay in draft every time. We also caught many riders by lap or two and few of them stayed with us for some time.
End is coming, few more pushes, but we are still together. Within 400m before finish Alan launched final sprint effort with 10w/kg and i could not respond, despite sitting in good drafting position. Very well deserved win for Alan, second for me and overall great and challenging Sunday morning race. Thank you all who joined!
Karel, a toilet stop and only lost 50m on Alan….you’re not only superfast on the bike
My plan was clear from the beginning. Focus on my TT position, stay in HR4 and find a large group and hold them all together from start to finish, so we could make some fast splits.
But I found out that it is easier say than done🙈 Had to pull some big watts to maintain a large group and at some point it was all about hanging on. Squalo, Brainport and I had to let Tubbyt, Kings Magic, Stefan Smit and Andy-Up go, I then focused more on my HR and TT position. But having said that I totally forgot all about training when we took on the last 2 rounds. I managed to pull away 50 meters from Squalo and BrainP but Squalo wouldn’t let me go and I had to push some heavy watts to win – good fight Squalo💪
So Mr. heart rate zone 4 is rather a big word for todays ride – spent 46 minutes in zone 5🙈 I wonder if my legs will be ready for the championships race on Tuesday🥴
Anyway a big Thanks for arranging these long races🙏
From the start we formed a small group of 6 riders in which there was good collaboration from everyone, then after a first acceleration from Mr. Forby it was Karel Sousek who had to make an effort to come back and then we The two of us with Karel met up very early to cover the last 70 kilometers but around 20 kilometers from the finish the attacks followed one another to finish together up to 400m and decide in a sprint.
We did this route, same distance, in januari. Everybody did a gentle start back then, and worked together for 13,5laps. Ended up with a higer avg power then yesterday’s race. Right after the start yesterday, all hell broke loose and it was like it was only a 3 rounds race. Did 4 w/kg the first round, and couldn’t stay with the first group. Had to drop back to svard and el_tractor. After being in the red so hard, the pace was a bit to hard to really help, I had to recover. El_tractor didn’t like it. Svard did a strong pull and El-Tractor opened up a gap, after a while, he pulled 10w/kg to close it. I responded with 10w/kg and so they did not drop me yet. It’s been long since I had to produce that kind of watts, and this was in round 2! Not long after, svard decided he wanted to close the gap to 2 riders infront really fast and started pulling 4,2w/kg. That’s when I had to let go. Dropped back to a rider named Stefan_Smit. He was pulling 3.2w/kg. Just right to stay in the wheel but really hard for me to pass him and do a pull. I did try a few times. After a while he drops power, so I start pulling. But alone, I could not hold off the big pack behind us. So when they were at 100m I drop power and let them catch me. Now I see stefan smith doing 3.4s and again gaining on the group I was in. The group itself had slowed down as me joining it must have broken some chemistry. After a while I got bored and started to pull hard before the bridge and even more on the bridge. Most came back each time. It wasn’t until Niels Brynnum and 2 others lapped us, just before the bridge, that gave an opportunity to go hard on the bridge and keep in the draft of this fast group. A few bridged over. I enjoyed this group in the draft and I don’t even know when Niels and the others pulled away from us. King_Magic, Tubytt ans Stefan had some more power in the legs and I was dropped with 1 lap to go. Nothing behind that would catch me so easy pace to the finishline. Very fun race!
El_Tractor didn’t like it because he thought the two Muckers (Andy & Svard) were playing it in “team”. Each one attacking to get El_Tractor of their wheels. Must have seen a strategy that wasn’t there…or did I….:p
The pace was too high for me to do much work. It was still very far and I’m with 2 riders that are way stronger than me on this type of route and distance. But I wasn’t going to race after a teammate no. Apparently, my teammate thought more for himself than for his teammate. Anyway, it’s a race so all these things are part of it, no hard feelings to anyone.
