Training Night or flat out Race Night? The choice is yours! Nice flat start that probably had everyone who’d selected zone 4 hr wishing they’d chose the other option as there was loads of opportunities to draft, especially with 76 on the start line! But once you hit the climb, it was so easy to get up in Zone 4!!

First mentions go to the top 3 who did the Race Within a Race! Well done to “Grochang” on a superb effort and for also finishing high enough for a mention in the main race report later!! Might have to do a “I Got 2 Mentions” T-Shirt now 😉. 2nd place goes to “leonelcunha” who was only 15 minutes behind the main race winner, then the final mention goes to Muckers Worldwide Team Rider “Kylofski” for being the 3rd fastest rider to Zone 4 Heart Rate this race! 9 riders managed to stick to the rules on this one so well done to you all, and commiserations to those who just did too much in zone 5 and missed out, but I hope you still managed to find it a worth while training session, AND, we still got a challenge route out of the way!

Main race now: So Happy “Tuden” got a win here, he’s been 2nd alot recently so this might just give him the boost to get a win in the Championship on Tuesday?? “karel_sousek” gets awarded the 2nd place with new rider to the muckers podium “Dennis_R” in a strong ride to 3rd.

stuck in no mans land comes “nelsonsnyder” in 4th, same can be said for 5th place “Krisskinder”, but 6th and 7th came over the line with 9 seconds between them with “pasjordi60” just pipping “JJRobinson”!

8th gets awarded to “Stefan793” with fellow German rider “Stefan_Smit” being awarded 9th after a few more riders finishing without any Heart rate data visible, so not getting a classification as per Muckers Worldwide Race Rules.

“peters7” gets 10th , 6 seconds later “R3-568-DIEGO-DONATI” claims 11th, 4 seconds later “RuddBaars” gets 12th then Top Muckers Worldwide Rider for tonight “denny44” gets awarded 13th! Well done Mucker! But wait!!?? 14th place we have another Mucker and this time its “SwissChris69” making a welcome return to the mentions!

“Grochang” gets that superb 2nd mention of the night by being awarded 15th place with “yayarecki” just 9 seconds behind in 16th. French rider “lrollin” gets the bump up to 17th, 3rd Muckers Worldwide Team rider “MikeHagen” next in 18th , with “rouvy1bryon” next over the line in 19th.

So, last mention in the official Muckers Worldwide Race Results goes to “MatthiasHeil” who gets 20th place. Well done and i hope that’s a nice surprise!

Thanks everyone tonight, don’t forget to leave us a comment on how the race went from your perspective, especially as it was a race within a race so people would have been doing different things! Please also have a look around the site, check out the blogs, articles, reviews and Team rider Bios etc etc.

If you’ve completed a Muckers Race, you are now one of the team and any contributions welcome!

cheers and hopefully see you on the next one.

Neil Rushby

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

I went for the zone 4 race with in the race, but i knew i was pushing it a bit too much at the beginning while trying to stay in the draft of the rider/s in front of me! Ended up going into zone 5 for 2 minutes and 4 seconds and that happened to quite a few riders, but i really enjoyed it anyway and felt superb afterward and not like I’d just done a 21 mile and over 2000ft ride at all. Had A race long duel with DolphWader who just showed his fitness by leaving me on the hill and also being disciplined enough to stick to the zone 4 regs! well done!

Decided to go hard for a top-20 mention, though with great foreboding about that one hill at 20 km. There was a big bunch ahead of me just after the start, but trying to be reasonable about pacing meant letting them go. Spent most of the middle part of the race working with MattiasHeil, and that was good. I think he was more reasonable about pacing than I was; I surged at the base of the hill, and attacking a 15% grade (which it is for the first 300 m) is not a reasonable thing to do. So the hill was hard, very hard. Got passed by a few. So it goes.

What a fun race. Half of the race I’s chasing down Mucker1974 (Neil) but each time I came close enough to close the gab my HR went too close to zone 5 and I had to let go. But heavy breathing and slow RPM I manage to close the gab and even overtake. And getting a 9th zone 4 place 🙂
This is something I need to do more often instead of ruin my legs on constantly high zone race.

  4. Mads Grosen says:

Thanks Neil, I definitely need a 2 mention T-shirt😊 I like the thought of making you think out-of-the-box😉
I took the race in the race, and I was warming my heart rate up, pumping it in to zone 4 before the Gun start. No zone 4 time was going to be wasted in the beginning of the race.
I found myself in a great group with many strong riders, but the drafting was a killing danger, and I took myself for leading many times in the beginning, just to keep my heart rate up. The small ramp sections challenge my HR to stay down, so I had to leave the group with my Danish companions hj2010 and Tranberg. At some point I caught up with RuudBaars and passed him very easy but that was just a short victory 🚵‍♂️💨 coming in to the last hill
climb. SwissChris69 came in sight and I had, at some point, only 35 meters uphill in between him and me, but he wouldn’t let me get any closer. Yayaricki was pushing from behind and it was quite frustrating situation I had put myself into to – keeping the heart rate down and still pacing myself.
    Thanks for another excellent race👍
    Cheers you-all-Muckers🤟

  5. Kyle Goodram says:

HR Zone 4 races are incredibly challenging, not because they are physically tough, but because they demand precise control over your power output, heart rate, thoughts, and breathing. This is why, out of the 75 participants who began the race, only 9 of us managed to complete it. My primary concern was maintaining control during the initial 13-15 kilometers of undulating climbing. I couldn’t push hard on the short ascents as I typically would, and I could see other riders passing me. I found myself in 45th position, and my only thought was to maintain control.

During this stage, I ended up in a small group of riders that included “coquepedales” and “MiraBoy.” They were maintaining a pace of 3.3 watts per kilogram, which suited my effort to keep my heart rate in check. As we approached the main climb, I had only spent 2 seconds in Zone 5, so I knew I had some room for effort. Climbing was the easier part for me, as I could maintain my cadence and control my breathing while listening to my relaxing country music. Throughout the climb, I managed to pass a few riders, although I couldn’t see much as I was focused on monitoring my heart rate data. I consistently stayed between 3.0 and 3.2 watts per kilogram, and I did it. I spent a total of 5 seconds in Zone 5.

The downhill section was a breeze, just coasting along. I finished 35th overall and came in 3rd on the heart rate results. I’m genuinely pleased with tonight’s performance. Looking forward to the 100-kilometer ride this Sunday.

  6. Steven Ludford says:

Chose the Z4 race option, but spent about 45 seconds in Z5 in the 1st minute trying to maximise the draft of a big group – so I knew I was in trouble if it touched Z5 at any further point, which it did, too frequently, ultimately 59 seconds into ‘disqualified’ territory. I wonder what some competitors think, they must be very confused when you have to suddenly back off the power as you approach Z5. Like others have pointed out, these do make useful training rides and engage the brain, although I didn’t see any scenery, I was only staring at my Heart Rate.

  7. Henrik Jørgensen says:

Obviously, a relaxation race was planned for this evening. I wasn’t aware of this😆 Also no matter since I’m never below zone 5 anyway😉 The route that I’ve driven before without remembering it is a bit of a sneaky affair, with a long and hard road to a rather long climb. As usual, the start went at a furious pace, and 6-8 riders got away. But after the first few hills, the breakaways were reduced to only 4-5 riders. Karel š, Nelson Snider, Poocat and maybe one more and then myself. A hard pace was driven and small attacks on the hills. An elimination race was now underway. I really don’t remember who fell off first and who was next. but before the last mountain climb, we were like pearls on a string about 30-40 meters apart. Procat forest and I as number 2. I had decided in my head before the start of the race not to move along when Procat went on the offensive. There are several reasons for this which I will not go into here. On the climb, the tactics were also quite simple. Find a pace you can keep all the way to the top. So 5.0 w/kg was the plan to drive all the way up. Had to find my legs first though. then came a little short on the first piece. To my great joy, I could see that the distance between Procat and me remained the same, approx. 30 meters. Once I got into the rhythm and could pick up the pace a little, I could see Procat’s lead slowly shrinking. When I reached him I could see he was having a hard time and was in crisis. So I kept up the pace and was able to quietly pull away. It’s simply one of the coolest things about cycling when you succeed, when you’ve worn your way onto the person in front and can then drive away from them. This is why I love long and hard climbs the most. Reached the top with a good lead of about 60-70 meters and now the long descent to the finish awaited. I may have relaxed a little too much at the start downhill, because suddenly I could see that my lead was down to 30m. So there was no choice but to sprint on the small sections where you do not achieve a top speed of 72 km/h. He came close (19m) and just before the finish line was a steep little wall. We both went all out over it and on the other side of the wall could see that his w/kg was 0.0w/kg. So the victory was a reality. I feel like flying at the moment, so of course it annoys me that I can’t drive all the races in the little Mucker’s Championship, because I have to work some evenings. but it is what it is. Huge thanks to the team behind Mucker’s worldwide and the ever-larger crowd who choose to ride in the races.

  8. Chris says:

Interesting race-in-a-race definition by HR zone 4… omg, my heart was jumping out of my chest in front of my bike and laughing at me 😉
    Avg HR = 172, max at 182. Like a 20-year old boy 😅

    Chris alias “uffzynda”

  9. Lyndon Wright says:

Once again a top route, I decided to do the zone 4 race and boy was it hard, keeping a 👁 on your heart rate and not pushing to hard and not jumping on someone’s wheel as they go past. so pleased to come 8th.
