MUCKERS Vietnam Race 5 of 6. 29/06/23

Rouvy Route used : Moc Chau | Vietnam | 12.65 miles | 1069ft climbing

Route 5 from the Vacation in Vietnam challenge and also the 5th race in the mini Vietnam Championship!

33 Registered | 21 finishers | 2 DNF | 10 DNS

23 riders on the start line, with quite a few showing off there new bikes since the last update! just over twelve and a half miles but with a thousand feet of climbing, this was going to be a climbing race , set at flat race speeds!

The top 3 didn’t hold back! all 3 somehow setting an average speed of over 25mph, with “Simon_Hahnenbruch” making a welcome return to the championship and the top step! “Tuden” was nearly 30 seconds behind in 2nd but he kept the supremely strong “karel_sousek” 10 seconds behind for 3rd place.

4th place came “nielsbrynnum” who was just 2 seconds in front of top Muckers Worldwide rider and current championship leader “MikeHagen”

“yayarecki” came a very respectable 6th in front of a train of 5 Muckers Worldwide riders trying to claim the last 4 top 10 spots!

So it went “Andy_UP” in 7th, a rare sighting of “Kylofski” in 8th, “Ryanio-Bianchi” in 9th then a Canadian sprint off that was won by “kin_kwan” for 10th spot!

What a fantastic race and well done to everyone that finished this, and I hope you at least enjoyed your own little battles along the way.

cheers

Only 1 more race to go and still lots of positions to fight for! Mike should have this in the bag now but there’s no guarantee that he will make the 3rd race but if hes at the start, it should be his. Andy is looking comfy in 2nd as it would take a big effort and a massive field of riders for him to be 20 places better than Andy. Then its quite close for the remaining top 20 positions, but just to be in this top 20 after 65 different riders have at least taken part in one or more races, is a superb result. Good luck in the last race! (Link Below)

This championship really got me thinking long and hard about tonight’s race! I set off tryingreally hard not to over do it, but try and get on someone’s wheel! But i had to go harder than i wanted to just to try that theory and i eventually got dropped and settled into13th place where i stayed for the rest of the race Normally i’d have dropped back and had some fun with the group behind and hopefully have a nice sprint finish, but not today! I was trying to keep the points as safe as i could so i had to solo it just to be on the “safe” side. My closest rival Ryanio did amazing and is now only2 places behind me! I’ll need a miracle to beat him at the last race but for now, I’m still somehow in the top 5 overall and if I drop a few places, I’ll still be happy….. i think…..

I missed the Tuesday race due to playing Foot-Golf which was a bad move. Hoofing a heavy football around a golf course messed up my right leg, knee, ankle and foot. After hobbling around the house for two days I thought I would see how my leg behaved whilst cycling. Cycling must use entirely different muscles as I felt surprisingly comfortable during the warm up but I couldn’t risk a fast start and sadly had to watch all hope of a draft disappear in the first minute. Tried to form an alliance with ‘robinagy’ but we couldn’t get a good rhythm and were probably not well matched to be effective so I pushed on and caught ‘derrydingle’ before letting him go on the final climb. By now I felt I was holding back the effort to protect my leg but my heart rate suggested my effort was high, perhaps this was more to do with high temperature in room … who knows? Will rest up for a few days, going to need two good legs in the next few weeks

all these other “sports” doing us all in! No Jeff either tonight due to keeping fit via other sports! deffo hope you get sorted Mucker as i need you as well in a few weeks time when we do the Flanders trip…. the one in actual real life!! take care and thanks for commenting.

  3. Ryan ( Ryanio) says:

What a great race and well done all. I had a good start and was up to 7th but Andy was to strong so let him go early on. I then had a battle with chak for 8th and 9th and due to the fact that I need the points I wasn’t going to let of the power for a single second. I managed to drop chak after about 7miles and before the last climb. My legs were cooked and Kyle wizzed past on the last climb and I couldn’t respond. Was a great race and in a weird way enjoy the legs burning just to get the points to close the gap on Neil. Great route , great race.

This was my first indoor race in about three weeks, as we were lucky to catch a rare glimpse of the sun (which is uncommon in England). As “Jeff64” says, “Make hay while the sun shines.” I’ve been out in the real world, riding on the road and mountain bike. Anyway, let’s get back to the race. Yesterday, Neil informed me of his plan to maintain 4.0W/KG up the first hill, stick with someone on the flats, and hope for the best on the last hill. In order to beat him, I had to match his pace on the first hill, stay with him on the flats, and then surpass him on the final hill while maintaining the distance for the long downhill towards the end. My plan worked, and I also managed to overtake a few other riders on the last hill. I nearly caught up to “Andy_UP” with only 150 meters to go, but he proved to be too strong. Thanks, guys!

    • Neil Rushby says:

well done Kyle! i really tried to hang on but it was just that step too far for me. thanks for taking a few points off Ryan for me though 😉🙄but he will have me in the last race!

  5. Nagy Róbert says:

As always I tried to push to my limits, but okay, I knew my legs were on vacation today. But in the first half I was surprized that I can go with Ludford, at good watts. But it was obwious that the man will come with the hammer, it hapened at halfway, and from there I was just making a good hard recovery ride (if sg like that exists – not) 🙂
For the last race, Ill try to take a little rest, and then let’s see what willl that be enough for.

    • Neil Rushby says:

Was a bit strange not to see you more in the mix to be honest but that makes sense now. If I wasn’t as focused on the points as i was, I’d have definitely been down there with you and Ste and happy with the result. The quality of all the riders now means that you have to be on it just to make sure you don’t finish last! See you on another race soon and thanks for taking the time to comment.

    • Steven Ludford says:

Hi Róbert, I hoped to stay with you longer. You actually went a little too hard each time you went to the front and I had to chase rather than rest. Sorry I pulled away, I just needed to control my w/kg tonight more than normal. Next time we will work better together.

      • Nagy Róbert says:

Yeah, sorry you might be right, in rouvy it is so mush harder to set the right speed/power back or front 🙂 Have to practice that more.
But it was all okay, thanks, I couldn’t really keep up with you much more!
The day before I decided to make a little training outdoor in the little Budapest mountains, those are not big like stelvio, but steep enough to take me apart 🙂 And I didn’t count in this race. Next time, let’s see!

  6. Mike Hagen says:

I was either asleep at the start or got glitched, but suddenly I was 70 – 100 m behind the big group I thought I was with and had to chase.  Caught the group, passed through, and finally caught  Andy_UP.  I was content to let Andy sit on my wheel and pull him up to nielsbrynnum who was still a couple hundred meters ahead.  A few km later, saw Niels, got excited, and dropped Andy (sorry, Andy!).  Caught Niels on the last climb, but then he surged, I couldn’t keep up, no energy left after all that chasing, and got gapped just before the last downhill.  Crazy downhill: I was on the drops, tucked on the top tube, spinning in the 140s, still could not close the gap.  Good on you, Niels for recognizing that the real finish line was the top of the last climb. We’ve had some really good head-to-heads, I think we’re even now; looking forward to the next one!

    • kin kwan says:

Sorry to hear that you glitched out at the beginning. The downhill finish indeeds very tricky. Congrats on beginning #1 in GC.

    • Andy_UP says:

No need to apologize, I must thank you for taking me along for the time you did.

      • Mike Hagen says:

Looking good, Andy. We have you locked into 2nd place GC, you better show up next Thursday!

  7. kin kwan says:

Great race everyone! Well done 👍🏼
Another last minute to hopped on to the bike, hard to get the legs going at the first 5 mins. Rode along with Neil, Squalo_delle_Alpi and Kyle for a bit. Can’t keep up with Kyle but managed to caught Chak at the second last hill. Distance Chak about 50m at the peak of the last hill. No rest during downhill, had to keep the high power to maintain my advantage. Barely held on the #10 spot. What a great workout!!!

Also yesterday evening we gave vent to a beautiful race. This time I thought I’d pick up the pace first to be able to place with someone a bit further up and work towards aiming for the top ten. It seemed possible, I was with a small group of 3/4 riders with Kin, Chak and Neil…. but in the final hills, the Canadian duo had taken a little margin, in the last descent I pedaled at a good pace to see I managed to recover if I could and closed +25” from Kin, but I always kept an eye behind me to be sure that Neil was satisfied with 13th. I wish you a good final battle, unfortunately I’m going to the beach hoping to start fighting again with everyone to improve and get once in the top ten 👋

    • Neil Rushby says:

i was trying to put the pressure on you, and also hoping you might let off and ride with me but you just kept out of reach no matter what i did….. strong ride Mr Shark attack!

  9. Andy_UP says:

I tried to follow Simon when he started his chase of Tuden. Did for a while but as expected couldn’t for very long. I saw Mike closing the gap on me, and he was alone so took his wheel. He didn’t mind, smart as he is, he knows he can drop me any time he wants. He stopped holding back when he saw Niels up the road, so I had to let go. Yayarecksi closed the gap and there was no way I could follow him. On the hill, suddenly the chaser behind me changed to Kylofski. On a steep final hill having him chase you, you know you are in serious trouble. Managed to hold him of till the top, but he was only 150m behind, and still closing! I was near or on maximum speed on the downhill but still he was almost in my wheel when the final sprint came on. He flew past me, I hit 11W/kg, came beside him and could hold the power high to the finish to claim a 7th place I had to fight for very hard.
P.S. These downhill finishes should no longer be alowed. Race organiser, do you not value the safety of the riders!!!

  10. Henrik Jørgensen says:

it Was time for Mucker’s worldwide race again💪 Have recently renamed the garage where the trainer stands to the boiler room🥵 although the last few days have not been so hot, the humidity has been nauseating. But what the heck, turn on the fan and off you go. I got really tired even before the start when I saw Simon H at the bottom of the screen was there. That man just makes life really hard on the bike. But also cool because you want to beat him at some point. (didn’t happen today either🙄) The front group was quickly formed with 4 strong riders. Simon H, Karel S, Niels B, and myself say the pig. The route was perfect for doing a lot of small accelerations on the small bumps that were numerous all along the way. So we kind of took it in turns. With about a third to the finish, Niels B and Karel S started to fall behind every time we hit a hill, and I knew it would be between Simon H and me in the end. I had planned the last small hill before the final to make a surprise attack, a bit far-fetched considering that there was a climb towards the line as well. But Simon just gave it 1.5-2.0 w/kg more, and I had to give up. I am quite satisfied with my second place 🥈🥈🥈👍

    • Neil Rushby says:

image that feeling you get when you just see one name, and multiply it 20 times and that’s me on the line! 😂. but i wouldn’t want it any other way as a 13th for me when i know I’ve beaten much faster riders is just as good as your 2nd place….. that’s my story and and I’m sticking with it 😂🤣

I really appreciate you commenting Henrik as not a lot of the top 3 riders do and you do it consistently so just wanted to say I really appreciate it as it gives us all a really good insight at what’s going on for race win! The other guys do wonderful reports on there strava posts so it would be great if they could pop them on here as well as not everyone who races on my Rouvy races, follow those guys on strava. but you can’t have everything in life can you.

      Thanks again and well done!
