Last Night this Race was looking a bit bare and I thought we were going to wake up to 10 racers on the start line but I was pleasantly surprised when I jumped on just before 9am that we had a nice 21 racers ready, with 2 fellow Muckers lined up as well ready to tackle one of the longest routes I’ve seen as part of a challenge in a long time at 55.6 miles long.
The field soon settled into the fast pack, the chasing pack, and the steady pack! But over the race 10 riders quit! 10! One of the biggest drop out numbers I’ve had and I think just demonstrates how tough this route actually is, mentally especially!
1st over the line was “Kaihu” with a very strong ride, averaging nearly 24mph. Only two and a half minutes behind came ” Sergio1964” for the Silver, with his fellow Portugese rider “EdAlves” coming next just 4 minutes down the road to take the bronze. “Kingmagic” claimed 4th place just under 30 seconds behind third! Wonder if that was as close a race for third as it reads???
5th came the Argentinian rider “IRONSAN73“, just in front of the Spanish rider “Bermejo” who claimed 6th. 7th, and in a little bit of no mans land came the French rider “PhilipG” but a nice result considering he was with the chasing pack early on and was in 10th.
Luckily, with a few retirements up front, the 3 Muckers has 8th, 9th and 10th in the bag, it just depending how they finished, but they’d worked as a team all the way and not one of them wanted to come over the line in front of the other. but they came over the line “Mucker1974” in 8th, “SwissChris69” in 9th and “Jeff65” 10th, but it really could have been any order.
Well done to everyone who finished this. 10 people couldn’t for whatever reason, so just finishing this is a victory.
cheers.

8th place but I’d have been happy with 9th or 10th as well! Set off with the though to do 2.5s but i soon thought i was ok to try and stay with “yayarechi” and PhilipG” so I messaged the Muckers ( “swissChris69” & “Jeff65” ) to say lets try and stay in this chasing Pack as i feel “OK”. Chris had an issue at the start but is a very strong rider so I thought he would catch at some point. So ne and Jeff stuck in this group, we caught up to “IRONSAN73” and we were a nice group. But when we got onto the incredibly long flatter part with the odd climb, i found I was going too deep to stay with them. Jeff had backed off to go back to chris to help him along ( me totally knowing they’d catch me up at some point working as a team) so I eventually got dropped and just waited for them to catch me up while maintaining zone4 hr to recover.. When they caught me, I really struggled to up the pace to stay with them but luckily for me, they backed off a touch and we rode together with lloydie helping out as well.
Several times I thought about giving up but the Muckers kept me going! If they hadn’t been there and i was doing this solo, i do feel i might have at least gotten off for a stretch and a change of clothes! and a Brownie!!! But every now and then someone quit in front and you could see the chance of a top 10 mention getting closer and closer! I came over the line 8th but that’s only because my focus was on lloydie behind me that i didn’t realise i was going much faster than chris in front and overtook him just before the finish. apologies sent, but so happy i finished this! it was tough.
An interesting race day, I started quite lightly. The purpose was to put everything in the game for the final climb and the tactic was successful. Special thanks to Kingmagic and Sergio1964. Thanks also to the organizer.
well done again on the win and thank you so much for commenting.
It was a tough race but I went strong with belief to create a group at the front and go all the way to the end, work between us, and that’s how it worked . After the first descent we already had a group of three (Me, GgTto1971kg60 and Inaki.M) that would certainly be the group from which the winner would come out but the application gave an error in the middle of the course and stopped drafting and also the resistance of the bike trainer gone wild. I tried to follow the other two in the group but I had to do 140% of my ftp just to keep the wheel that was impossible to maintain until the end. This in the middle of the course so it was 45km alone when we already had almost 2km ahead. the funniest thing is that something happened to my escaping colleagues because I still went to catch them, Inaki.M gave up first and GgTto1971kg60 still tried to follow my wheel but the leaderboard saw his values also strange and gave up too.
It’s sad to see such a huge effort disappear in a few km, we are making the same effort as those behind and we are constantly losing the advantage…
I went to the end just out of anger and a feeling of accomplishment.
I already made a complaint to Rouvy because not even the race was sent to my Rouvy diary or strava account
hi Ed, that is such a shame to hear! I think i would have exploded if that had happened to me! I really hope you get it sorted but hopefully it was just a horrible glitch, so thanks for letting us know.
This ride is pretty much as Neil describes it, I could never have done it solo, it was all about working as a team, to get over the line. A bit different to a usual flat out race, lots of riders dnf, so pretty pleased to get this route under my belt . Thanks for organising
cheers again Jeff! we even made SwissChris laugh which you’ve gotta say is pretty good considering nothing felt funny near the end! Remember, more bottles of water next time if we are going over 50 miles!
