MUCKERS 2026 MAY CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 3.
ROUTE AND RACE DETAILS:
Cheddar Gorge | Babble Ride Across Britain | 20.29 miles | 1,385 ft. elevation
ROUVY SAY: A genuinely iconic natural gem nestled in Somerset’s Mendip Hills, Cheddar Gorge is widely regarded as one of the best cycling climbs in the UK.
WE SAY: classic UK route that just got thrown into a random Challenge after it being one of the highlight routes from the babble across Britain challenge from 2 years ago! Yes, 2 years ago! I thought it was last year but my Strava says i last did this route in 2024!. But, we will give it another go as a race and see what happens…….
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, i feel race 3 is the most important race in a 4 race Muckers championship. If you have done the first three, you now know what you have to do in the last one and who you are racing against! Also, for those of us who are around the 40th to 80th places and because of the new points system, pretty much everyone who has completed 3 races, now has more points than those that came for 1 race and got a podium. This is one of the reasons we narrowed down the points gaps from 51st downwards as we want to reward those who race week in / week out, rather than a hitter popping along, wining 1 race and getting enough points the be placed higher than those who have done 3 races. Anyway, with that said, lets see how the results tally up shall we:

WHATS NEXT TO COME:
Remember you are more than welcome to come and race with us on any of our races even if the championships are of no interest to you. The more the merrier!! These championships are just here as extra motivation and fun ways to train.
Sunday Hill Climb (aka the Sunday hill climb championship)
Double header this weekend:
Sete Cidades | Azores | 11.32 miles | 1,798 ft. elevation
Then an hour later:
Hilchenbach – Erndtebrück – Birkelbach | 28.15 miles | 1,969 ft. elevation.
This equals a very nice 39.47 miles and 3767 ft. elevation
Search “Muckers Sunday” in the event search function on ROUVY to find all the scheduled climbs we have created so far. All start times included in the championship.
Tuesday Race Night (aka the w/kg training championship)
The 2.8 week!!!!
can you hit the 2.8w/kg target over the following route:
Cedros | Azores | 10.71 miles | 1,191 ft. elevation
luckily its kinda short, but it’s got a downhill at the end and we all know what that means…….
Search “Muckers Tuesday” in the event search function on ROUVY to find all the scheduled races we have created so far at the 5 different start times. All start times included in the championship
Thursday Race Night (aka the world championship)
The last round for May! We use the strangely named:
QVRO4 Asque-Cietat | 15.92 miles | 2,484 ft. elevation.
What a tough looking route this is! But lets see how it goes as we wrap up a pretty hard month of racing!

TO FINISH OFF:
Well, that was one tough race. hope everyone enjoyed it and you are all now set for next weeks even tougher challenge. Remember you are fighting to get as high as you can in the GC for the world championship points and if you are having an even better month, top 3 in your category for bonus points. Looking at the categories after todays race, some are set for a win and also a promotion next week , but there are lots of ways these predictions could change so lets see how it all unfolds next week!
Not much else to report this week, so we will leave this short and sweet today and get this blog published.
Thank you all as always, and especially those who read this blog to the very end. Appreciate it.
Mucker1974

Struggled tonight. Just wasn’t feeling it, even in the warm up, legs heavy and tired. But the race starts and we try a rapid start, but already we are in 40th place and not gaining at all. If anything, i am getting dropped and i am in the draft.. then i realize I’ve left the cadex 50s on so not got my usual aero wheels for the fast bit! They really do make that much difference! I get dropped, and i jump onto the next pack and its a really nice pack and i feel these guys really helped me set the time i did just by being fast all the way to the climb. Got to the climb and my legs just had nothing. could just about hold 2.7/2.8 but had to be out of the saddle to do anything like a 3.0, but it wouldn’t last long. What a difference to Tuesdays “easy” 2.9s up the 3 climbs!!
But you have races like this. you activate survival mode and just head down to the end and hope you set a good time. I feel my 60 minutes and a few seconds wasn’t too bad all things considered and i am happy to be quite nicely into the GC top 50.
I’m still fighting to stay in A5, mainly against valrdz which has kept this month very interesting, but we are both way off the others in our category. i wonder who will come out on top next week? Its a climbers route so its hers for the taking, i just have to make sure i finish within 6 places of her and i stay up which is an accomplishment, but if i don’t, then I’m getting a demotion…. which would be a relief lol
I know the feeling. That’s the way I felt last week.
I was really looking forward to this weeks race. I reviewed the earlier races to see how may rider had completed them and reviewed their times. I used the data to set time goals and to know what place I needed to finish in to be in the top 50. If I finish in 1 hour I would loose 9 spots from my heat finish. If I finished in 58 min I would loose 6 spots. So I set 58 min as my time goal and 40th as my place goal to make the top 50. My plan, like usual was to, push the start and grab the wheels of the faster rider an hang on as long as I could. With all the little rollers I didn’t think I would make it to the climb with them. Hung on until about the quarter mark and then ended up in no man’s land which was not what I wanted. There was a big group of riders a ways back and I knew they would catch me quick but, I didn’t want to burn to much energy trying to stay in front of them before the climb. Then I noticed that El_Tractor was easing off ahead so maybe just give it a little juice to get to him and we could work together to the climb. We worked well together to the base of the climb which is when the big group caught us. El_Tractor grab the wheel of the stronger group and I jumped in my my what was left ( LinV, sunniva, rihards_sprincis, fazzo34, Thomas_Lyhne). Sorry if I left anyone out. We all worked well together pushing up the climb. Great working with all of you. We crested together and took a little breather then started pushing the pace down the hill. It looked like everyone else had the same idea so we were moving. I had decided on the way down that I wasn’t going to wait for the group to kick, I was going to go a little early and see if I could hold on. So I let up just a little to get a draft and went. I jumped ahead and stopped looking for riders position and just put my head down and gritted it out. I knew it was close but, wasn’t sure if I made it over the line ahead until I saw 39th place. What a fantastic finish for all of us. So much fun. It was a super tight finish with 5 of us within .4 second of each other. I ended up beating all my goals, finished at 57.44.00, 39th place in the heat and, 42nd all in. And best of all, won my race within a race. Next week is a completely different race and tough with all that climbing. Should be a grueler!! See you there😎
That was a fun race. More chasing and catching groups, and mixing groups, than usual, I think, and that made it fun. Big lead peloton. You knew it would be; no need to get serious until the Cheddar climb started. But on a little ramp halfway to the climb, we got separated! Oh no! Lead 18 got away, and I was left with Jana.Sterbova, wolli.d, Yumile, MNHROUVY, simonjp, and the famous MatthiasHeil: a good group to ride with to the climb. Through Cheddar and into the gorge, saw that RaTim and Klinthomie had gotten dropped by the leaders. We reeled them in. And gapped them. Well, Jana, Yumile, wooli, and I did, the others formed a group behind. But now nigelhardy and Stefan793 were gaining fast! Desperate to reach the top of the gorge before they caught us, but didn’t quite manage. Did manage to hold onto the draft into the easier uphill after the gorge. We caught Stefan_Schmidt, lrollin, and Dave12. We were joined by 666jrm. I think he caught us from behind, I’m not really sure! I know we’re losing riders off the back; I hope I’m not next. Four km to go, last ramp before the downhill to the finish, last chance to attack, and someone did. I was gassed, but so was Nigel. We were dropped. We were 150 m behind, got back to 70 m, but by then I’m just worried about Nigel. Every point counts. I went with 250 m to go and somehow pipped him. Happy with 15th, and looking at who was in that group just five seconds up; I’m very pleased. Next week is going to be another brutal race. Kudos to all that finished!
I went through almost all the race groups in order, one after the other. Unfortunately, I started with the first one. 😉
Of sure another race very toasty, this time I trued to start with more velocity, and I hold the wheels of a group of very powerful mates as Big S (super smile Loudford), Duckman2, Fazzo33 and my 👑 chupa wheels of Andy. My group when the hills come result break, and as ever the paper come mixed again, for my fortune I find a few distance MNHROUVY, antyradziu and Ghostkiller, we worked all together during all the hills and kicker that we find, I see often my nearby list and for a moment I see not so far Ratim, MatthiasHeil and a very impressive Klinthomie (now you are too improve, you give me 2 min to me, and never I can catch you 👍). My plan for catching this group don’t realise but after lose Ghostkiller (I think for a issue of connection), I work hard with the other two friends, I try and try to push but it was not enough. At the end after many km of effort, I try to go with a final sprint but for a little don’t win it of 3, but in my mind I just know that 😂.
Thanks especially to antyradziu, is just 2/3 times that we worked very well together 💪.
Thanks for all who ride with me, and see you to the next week for a final race, now I hold my 3rd position in A4 but it’s a very heavy challenge 💪👋🦈
It turns out it’s not the Wednesday’s Z2 climbing sessions with Ratim that exhaust me, but the Thursday’s strength trainings. But I have no choice or ability to change that, so I’m always ready for Thursday’s race and give it my all.
I’m in a good position on A7 and don’t need to sprint to the finish; I just have to hang in there. That was my plan, but then came the climb, and my legs were screaming: slow down, slow down.
Luckily, 4WorldPeace was in my group, so I knew we’d work together, and LinV, whom I associate with Sunday’s tough climb, was great. Oh, it was so good to have LinV with me yesterday; she helped me mentally organize my effort. Once we reached the summit, everything became easier 🙂
Thank you for your help, support, and great fun.
I had to pinch myself several times. I thought I was dreaming or at least hallucinating – how was I riding alongside Mucker legends and people in categories 4–5… 6 steps above me? I know that my form is good these days, and I was eager to try myself out, but this went way beyond my own expectations. A top 20? I will take it!
For this race, I actually did a little bit of recon on Wednesday, since I was doing some mild zone 2 training anyways. I liked the route and recognized that my tactic for this race was to stay with the front group until we hit the gorge. Should be around 20 minutes before the start of the big climb and staying with the group over the last kicker was crucial. And so this was what I did! It wasn’t easy, and I had to focus so much on the little kickers not to lose BareRemi and the other 16 riders in front. Once we dropped Mike, Yumile, Jana, MNHrouvy, and more on one of the last kickers, I was flying! I could not believe that I had actually stayed with the front, and it honestly gave me wings.
But since I am not a featherweight, I have to have bigger wings in order to not get caught by the likes of Mr. Mike Hagen on climbs above 3–5%, and that was the reality. Still, I think I did alright, and I am very proud to have ridden with Ratim (among others) for most of the ride.
At some point, we were three, and it was obvious we could not hold off the group behind us with Mathias Heil, Macko & Co. And that was alright; maybe it was an opportunity for me to rest a bit, since my legs were burning from trying to pull away from them during the big climbs.
The last sprint was crazy. Downhill, spinning out, hard to time. Do I go at 300 meters? 400? 500? I almost felt like there was no use in trying, especially with the group that I was in, but I tried anyways – and what do you know, I finished third or fourth! Even overtaking Mathias and Ratim and other names that I have huge respect for. I am kinda surprised at how much of a mental game sprints can be, how you can lose hope in the matter of milliseconds, and how much that matters for the final rankings.
But top 20! Wow! A lot of “pinch my arm” moments in this race, and probably my best performance ever on a Thursday Muckers race. You know, at the start of the year I had two realistic goals. One was to try and finish ahead of Sharky in a race (hehe), and the other was to finish in the top 20. Now I have done both. I still can’t believe it, but I guess I gotta set some new goals. I just hope this progression keeps on going and that there is still a long way to go before I reach my ceiling.
Next week is gonna be a totally different beast, and I already know now that I am not gonna be this happy come Friday morning. But let’s try. Thanks for the ride, everybody! ✌️
