Taking on the 94.7 Ride Joburg by Southafro
Upon entry to the 94.7 Ride Joburg, I decided to risk the consequences of copyright and proudly display the Muckers Worldwide team name. I wasn’t relying on it to intimidate anyone who had ridden in a Muckers Race and been thrashed by the talent that abounds in those races (especially from the Vikings).
The depth of talent made the race furiously fast, and the size of the field/batch forced intense focus and close racing. There wasn’t a whole lot of climbing for 98km, only 1398m of vertical ascent, but the speed of the race made it tough.
This is a ride for anyone’s bucket list, from serious racers to fun riders or those riding for charity. Thousands of participants are spoiled by Johannesburg’s hospitality and entertainment. It’s truly impressive how the whole city focuses on giving their best for the day.
This wee Mucker managed a time of 2h40min and placed 66th in my category. I’d like to say thank you to all the Muckers I’ve raced with for inspiring me to train harder and race more fiercely. You all deserve heaps of respect and praise for the outstanding example you set. The Strava messages show some of the amazing places that you get to visit in all corners of this world. Hopefully, one day I can actually have the pleasure of meeting some of you and riding in person with you.
Neil and Kyle, you gentlemen Muckers have started something special to be super proud of, thank you.
Chris Helmbold aka Southafro

Hey Chris
Really great to hear your uplifting story. I get goosebumps reading how you reach out to all the Muckers who you virtual have ridden with and as to continuing to work harder through inspired motivation from the Muckers riders and races🤙
Deepest respect and kudos Grochang😉
Thank you Mads
I need to get those Yoga links from you again please sir. The body is beginning to stiffen with all this racing and training😂. If I were filthy rich I’d spend it on visiting all the Muckers and riding the best routes, and eating those delicious meals that some of you guys/gals post pictures off. Seeing how the world looks from y’all’s roadside and trailside perspective would be absolutely fantastic. I’m off to buy a lottery ticket tomorrow🤞🏼.
Kindest regards Chris.
Keep it shiny side up Mucker Family
This is just great and i think maybe your first ever blog?? Well, its a great way to start Mucker, and so glad you shared it with us. Even Colin at inside cycling world commented on it on tonight’s live stream of the championship race.
But we love it when any of the Mucker family do any kind of ride/event/race and want to share it. you all have a platform here to have a go at a blog and share it with the Muckers Worldwide community.
Well done Chris and thanks again for taking the time to share.
Thank you so much kind sir and this is most definitely my first blog Neil. Many thanks for inviting me to the Mucker family and starting my Rouvy riding anew. It is a privilege to share a little ride story from SA, which is full of fierce competitors, very evident by our legendary rugby history. I really hope to be on the start line with more Muckers in the next 94.7 event, that is a challenge to all international Muckers to come visit us in sunny SA.
Great read Chris, it’s interesting, we don’t hear about many events outside Europe, but I have heard of this one.
Keep flying the Muckers flag, the others will have been intimidated 😏.
Now, sort out that winning ticket..
