ok, 25 miles long and 3 “long” climbs… i need to think about this one! Pace the climbs at as close to 3.0 as i can and then hope im with some others on the downhills and flats to try and draft back up to those that dropped me on the climbs.

Set off like this and was soon in around 82nd place and just wondering just how many strong riders do we get on these Muckers races!!! Nice group on the downhill and flats then dropped again on the 2nd climb. Luckily again a nice group down the 2nd climb and to the last climb where i get dropped again but had a little company up here and down to the finish.

Got a few PBs and was really happy with my race, even though i had to race on the map screen tonight as i’m glitching so much on the normal screen, i don’t want to take the risk on a championship race. Just into the top 50 now but it’s really close around that part of the championship table that i will need a strong race next week!

Looked like a tough route, and hard to know how to tackle it. Decided to moderate my start, cruise the first climb, and slam Via Cipressa. Was that the right tactic? I still don’t know. Dropped the group I was with at the base of the climb, and by halfway I was pulling in the next group that contained riders like macko, Dave12, and Yumile, folk I know I can ride with. Getting close to the top, I was within 70 meters, I could see them! So near, and yet so far, as I couldn’t get on before the summit and they pulled away. I wasn’t catching anyone by myself on the long middle descent, so I waited for ludwigdb and BigJohRides who had also broken away from the groups they were with on the climb. We rode together to the finish, catching and dropped some riders, then they beat me in the sprint because of course they did. Kudos to all that finished! That was a tough one.

I like this course a lot. The climbs roll well and there are nice parts to recover. So I took this Muckers race. I miss the main race competition. It’s though and a quite to impossible to compete against the main race riders at my start time on 8:30 due to the missing higher speed of a fast group in the flats. But it’s Ok for a good workout. It’s March and concentration is now on even more base work on my part for this years challenges 🙂 . CU soon. Patrick

This is a really fun route, that i both looked forward to this year and last year. Thoose mytical climbs are much harder than they seems to be on television. The race started with the short challelning climb just from the beginning. Here is were you need to be with the leaders groupe to make sure to be in the mix for the win. You cannot allowed yourself to fall back. This race unfortently started with thoose 3 unhuman guys setting the pace up this climb, making sure to rip the whole race appart. Two of thoose were DQ because of the 5 w/kg rule. I cannot see why the third guy werent DQ when he manage to follow the other two and had above 5w/kg on both 20 and 30 min. But he let himself drop power in the end, to get within the number… But thats another story.
Coming over that climb that i cannot remember the name of, the championship contender groupe with myself, Erlend, karel, Velo and Gilmad looked exhausted by trying to follow the unhumans. So pace towards Cipressa was not high. I think all of us knew what was coming, and we just wanted to catch our breath. A strong groupe chased behind almost catching us 1 km into the climb. Coming up in the easier part of cipressa Gilmad set the pace all the way to the top and group behind instantly started paying for the pace they had before Cipressa and the first part of it.

Going into Poggio i tried to keep the momentum just to make sure to be ready to what was coming. karel, velo and Gilmad looked like they had the same approch, so there were never a chance for second groupe to catch up. Poggio were some sort of cat and mouse playing before a massiv attack on last 20hm. I started paying for another bad week with another cold. Just one of the benefits with having young kids. Just on the back foot over the top, i tried to stay within the draft, but lost out about halfway down the decent. So could not challenge Erlend and Gilmad for what i would say is the win.

Thank you all for a great race.

Gates of perception are wide. Open. Muckers. Busy day at work, no running, but as always like this, legs does not feel any better. Everyone scared of initial kicker shortly after start. So i and it required alltime 5min personal best to stay in front. Deep moments. Luckily unreal trio was far away and our lead group of five rode more predictable. Everyone tired, but no one wanted work in flat sections much.

When i survived second drafting climb, i contributed in front more to make sure other group will not get closer. Final drafting climb and i payed a bit price over horizon, when everyone was sprinting. Full effort in descending part, but gaps did not change. I can be only happy, it was very good race again. Thank you all who joined us!

Hello again, it’s Grumpy Smurf here, do you recognize me?

My equipment troubles continue. After struggling with my Kickr Core for several weeks, I replaced it, but unfortunately, the replacement had an issue during the first session. So, I’m back to using my original Core. This week, I’ve had fewer problems on the climbs but more on the descents: the return of zero resistance on steep downhills. After keeping up with the second group on the Cipressa, I lost contact at the very beginning of the descent. It was impossible to follow because the resistance was completely absent, and I couldn’t pedal beyond 120 rpm.

For Kickr Core users, have you experienced this random zero resistance issue on descents over 60 km/h? I’ve tested various configurations, and even reverting to version 3.9.5 hasn’t stabilized the problem. Syncing with Rouvy seems to cause issues with trainer calibration, as tests on MyWhoosh don’t exhibit this problem (although MyWhoosh doesn’t really simulate descents).
I did this race on macOS 15.3.2, using a Bluetooth connection for the trainer and ANT+ for the heart rate monitor.

So, for those who have a Kickr Core less than two years old and use macOS, have you noticed resistance issues with Rouvy in the past few weeks? And random power variations of more than 10%, sometimes even 15% (compared to the 2% margin of error claimed by Wahoo)?

Wahoo support is dodging the issue by asking me to test with a real power meter, which I don’t have. They don’t believe the device is defective after 25,000 km and 10 months of use, but honestly, I don’t know what to think anymore.

Does anyone have an opinion on the Cycplus T2 or T3, which work without a transmission belt but with a magnet system? Damn, esports racing is getting complicated.

Hey Grumpy Smurf, I have had loads of issues with my bike so I opted for the Zwift Cog and Click and now everything works brilliantly.

Hey, Grumpy Laurent! I’d be grumpy too if my trainer was giving me grief. I’ve a Kickr Core and I run the app on a Win10 laptop. I’m having sporadic power dropouts; most are only tenths of seconds and don’t set me back more than a few meters, but some are longer and are a bit nerve-wracking. Not sure if it’s a Rouvy issue or a trainer issue. Is suspect it’s a Wifi/Bluetooth issue with my sensors. I don’t think it’s the same problem you have. My resistance always seems fine, just sometimes the app doesn’t register it. That said, I do wonder why I fall behind on downhills at 70 km/h when I’m all spun out at cadence 140. Trainers are clearly not created equal, and, yeah, esports racing is complicated.

This race? A rollercoaster! Up those punchy climbs, then BAM! Flat sections designed to suck the life out of your legs. My weapon of choice? A Trek Madone Gen 8 with 65mm wheels. Think of it as a party trick: kinda good on the hills, but a full-on aero beast on the flats, which, let’s be honest, are my kryptonite.

I hit the start line like a rocket, then settled into a ‘steady as she goes’ 3.4 W/kg on the first climb. Only problem? I was getting overtaken by grannies on tricycles (okay, maybe not, but it felt like it!). Mid-70s? Seriously? I had to rein it in, play the long game.

Then, the cycling gods smiled! I found Regina.L, my ride-or-die partner. And guess who rocked up? Mucker1974 (Neil), my nemesis-slash-friendly-rival. We formed the ultimate power trio, until the final, glorious climb.

Now, I’m a competitive soul. To beat Neil, I knew I had to unleash the inner beast. Regina.L, bless her, was right there with me. We hammered it, leaving Neil in our dust (or at least, 600ft behind).

Downhill? Disaster! Or, well, almost. Neil was closing the gap, down to a measly 550ft. The last two miles? Pure, unadulterated pain. I was pedalling like my life depended on it.

Regina.L and I crossed the line, me a glorious 400ft ahead of Neil. Victory was mine! And my legs? Well, they’re currently staging a protest. Totally worth it!

I don’t know what it is about this route but I can’t seem to resist it!! Within the past week I’ve ridden it three times — way in back with a best so far of 1:20 and change and today I go to plan Saturday’s ride and what do I see on upcoming events? Spring into action ending in San Remo… Well, hope to see a lot of friends as you zooming past!
