MUCKERS 2026 APRIL CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 3.

ROUTE AND RACE DETAILS:

RideCymru 2026 | Eryri National Park | 18.7 miles | 1,283 ft. climbing.

ROUVY SAY: Get ready for one of the great rides in the world as you power your way through the heart of Eryri National Park; a land steeped in myth and history. Ride in the shadow of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), Wales’ highest mountain, before descending through deep valleys and along hidden roads through ancient woodlands.

WE SAY: Another good lucking race route that we must enjoy whilst we can! Usually we use the bigger routes that fit between the Tuesday shorter races and the Long Sunday hill climbs, but we are hitting a nice spot at the moment where the challenge routes all look like this! And what a good route this is! It’s got everything, long gradual hill, downhills, sharp and steep hill and kickers. Lets see how it all turned out:

WHATS NEXT TO COME:

Remember you are more than welcome to come and race with us on any of our races even if the championships are of no interest to you. The more the merrier!! These championships are just here as extra motivation and fun ways to train.

Sunday Hill Climb (aka the Sunday hill climb championship)

Nice and Easy Double Header this Sunday. Here are the 2 routes:

Stavelot to Creppe via Col du Rosier | Belgium | 12.4 miles | 1,299 ft. elevation

RideCymru 2026 | Cambrian Mountains and the Afon Gwy | 18.47 miles | 1,693 ft. elevation.

you have 45 minutes to get the first one done to be on the start line for the 2nd (that’s if you want to set off with others, but you can be up to 29 mins late so its no real pressure). Just a fraction under our usual minimum target of 3000ft so its as easy as we go riders! Also the week after we have thrown in our first “proper” climb (over 6000ft but not a challenge route) as we just felt the need to get a proper one in after all these double headers recently.

Search “Muckers Sunday” in the event search function on ROUVY to find all the scheduled climbs we have created so far. All start times included in the championship.

Tuesday Race Night (aka the w/kg training championship)

2.5w/kg target and we use a nice challenge route for this:

RideCymru 2026 | Coed-y-Brenin: The King’s Forest | 11.33 miles | 1,158 ft. elevation.

Search “Muckers Tuesday” in the event search function on ROUVY to find all the scheduled races we have created so far at the 5 different start times. All start times included in the championship

P.S. we have also arranged a Tuesday Warm-up race at 18:20 if anyone fancies it. we are using this challenge route:

Sweden Borlange Lilltorpet | 13.57 miles | 1,007 ft. elevation

Thursday Race Night (aka the world championship)

Last round of this months championship! we are using this challenge route:

RideCymru 2026 | Gospel Pass | 16.3 miles | 1,873 ft. elevation.

profile looks a killer! all the climbing pretty much done in the first 5 miles, then its a downhill (with a few kickers) for the next 10 miles! Bike and wheel choice and where to deplete your power will be what makes or breaks this one for you!

Search “Muckers championship” in the event search function on ROUVY to find all the scheduled races we have created so far at the 6 different start times. All start times included in the championship

TO FINISH OFF:

Things are heating up nicely for the finale next week! With a lot of the winter riders now outside, it’s now more than likely you get top 50 if you complete 3 races out of the 4, and guaranteed top 50 if you do all 4. The question is, can you get those bonus points for coming top 3 in your category as well???? These are the months to try!!

Kudos to all those that still come along and race with us, be it every week or just when you don’t get outside in the real world. We are here all year and most will know by now that all are welcome even if you just need a fun way to get a certain challenge route completed. You only have to stick to our basic rules if the championship is of any interest to you. If not, then that’s absolutely no problem. Glad to have you along!

Massive thank you to those who have been snapping up the merch recently. It really does help us keep this thing going

And lastly, thank you to those that have took the time to read the blog, especially those who read to the end. Appreciate it!

Looking at the profile, my race would all depend on how well the first long gradual hill goes, plus if i get off the line well! Had to pull out 5w/kg start and settled into top 40 with a really fast pack… “hang on Neil!!” I’m telling myself, especially when i just want to back off, “we can recover on the green bit!!” managed a very nice 260 watts average up to the green bit, but now its time to recover and use my energy more strategically. Started to get dropped by a few but wanted to conserve what i could for the red kicker near the end so when i got to it, 3.0s felt maintainable so stuck to that. fair enough, i got dropped at the bottom, but later on i’m closing up on some and i have a decision to make near the top:

Do i burn some matches now and bridge over to 4World in the hopes i drop the 2 i am with and he’s also up for a duo to the end?? he might be dead and we get caught anyway and i get dropped by all 3 due to burning said matches?? Or do i stay with the 2 i am with and go as 3 to catch 4world later????

I’m actually feeling quite strong and i think 4world will be up for a duo to the end So i bridge over to him, throw a thumbs up and try not to have a heart attack over the crest as i try not to let him drop me on the downhill!!! He seems to be able to pick up speed so much faster than me as the downhills start. But we get going and he seems well up for it! I try and stay in his draft on the downhill’s so i can use my kick to drag us over the kickers and its working well as we gap the chasing 2. A few times my kick gives me a little bit of a gap that normally i might have just tried a solo effort, but i knew we needed to stick together for the plan to work. So that’s what i did. I was more than happy with what we’d done so when he kicked for the final sprint, i didn’t contest. i was spent, but happy. Well done Mucker!

Great working with you Neil to stave off the group behind us. Thought for sure you were going to use that kick of yours at the end but I guess you just gave me one!😎 Congrats on leading cat6 so far in the month!

only leading due to be the only one having done 100% or the races lol. But it looks like an automatic promotion to A5 might be happening if i do ok next week 😲🤯. But it’ll be worth it if i win this month and get those 10 bonus points!

  2. Manuel Lamber SHARK says:

Today, I like very much this route, in my mind I thinked to start good, take a good group and hold a high pace until the red and violet hill.
The plan turn good, I hold a good 3.4 w/kg agv, many riders around me but I lost a bit of energy (don’t remember exactly where 😂) and lost the group, Andy, Pablo1945 and others big riders. Immediately I think to lose the opportunity to improve my A4 ranking, but I want to fight until the end. For my fortune I meet near me Antyradziu and after a double 👍 we started to work together perfectly. We catch another time Pablo1945 in a long downhill, but I know he is a tactical man, and I was surprised that don’t ride with us… in fact in red and violet hill he overtake us as a train…
I and my mate work always in duo, helping each other for the infernal hill, and in descent we work hard to hunting the next two top riders (Ratim and logically Pablo), at the end I always shoot out all energy, and in the last kicker I catch Pablo (excuse me for that) but not Ratim, I arrived a few second behind.
At the end a great result for me (hold 3rd position in A4) but I’m very happy to work team with Antyradziu, many thanks, it was a perfect work this night.
See you all to the last battle to the next week, thanks to all who ride with me 👋💪🦈

Horses for courses, in this case about 1000 stone horse muscles, to my 10 stones.
But first an aside. This is my second time I race in Wales. The first time IRL was a running race on NewYearsEve 1968..the Nos Galan in rhe tiny mining village of Mountain Ash. I have some wonderful memories and stories from that night, but in fairness to virtual space here, need to shared with IRL beers.
So, back to the task in hand, today’s lightening bolt. This time the start put me within leaderboard vision with greats such as Mike, Eddie D. Ludwig and many others. Then over the top of long big chainring climb and the long long green. I was there, and then I wasn’t there. Gapped off again. Dang. But ever onward with Merlin as my guide. Up and over the red stuff with 4.1 w/ kg for the segment, and grabbing RaTim for the descent.. We traded pulls all the way down until as many times before, Tim got bored playing with his little friend and, with a yawn, rode away at the end.
And then it gets a bit interesting. we get on the flats near the end and I spy a rampaging locomotive, the Sharky express. I was all in as he rolled over me at the finish line. Did anyone get the license plate number of the autobus that ran me over. It used to be that the little kickers would slow you down just a bit mate, but now you are flicking them away like mosquitos. Great finish mate, and if this was real life I should be buying you a Peroni or two.
So, it is what it is. After 3 races I am 17th overall, and 3.6 w/kg on this kind of course today.. Now I will get two days gravel outside, and then hope to see folks on the Sunday hills. cheers

    • Neil Rushby says:

finally you (Sharky) report some decent team work lol!!! nice to read that Mucker!

  3. Mike Hagen says:

My start was not bad, not bad at all, was in the low 20s, but instead of drifting up to the front as I would usually do, nothing much was happening. And then I got dropped. Didn’t quite have the legs today? But ended up riding with a bunch of buds, a very nice group it was: ludwigdb, Andy_UP, wolli.d, EddyDomino, even Dok_PS put on an appearance. Then we got to the red bit halfway and they all left me behind. Hey! Guys! Didn’t even catch MatthiasHeil. Well, I did, but he put in a massive surge near the top of the big climb and gapped me. I spent the rest of the race chasing solo, but then was caught by KonaBleit and simonjp. The three of us together could catch Matthias, no? No. We closed to 70 m, and I started my sprint with 500 m to go, but, no, all that did was give a nice lead out to Thomas and Simon who passed me, and Matthias held on. But it was a really nice route, I saw some of it, and it was very fun.

    • Neil Rushby says:

well done Mike and looks like you and 3 others are fighting for the last 2 places in the GC top 10! should give you all that extra push to see who achieves it!

  4. Eric H. (UncleE64) says:

Nice route. Nice race. As always, I had a blast seeing so many familiar names.
Sadly, I did NOT stick to the plan today. Plan was to NOT be a hero up the first incline – try to keep it just slightly above my FTP – maybe 105% – and save as much as I could for what – for me – would be about an 8 minute hard effort on the steep climb. Instead, I went too hard from the gun – realized my mistake after 2 minutes and dropped back – but somehow spent 2 solid minutes (2:00 through 4:00) with NO DRAFT and no one else on my screen. Huh? Anyway, I looked up after 5 minutes and realized that while I was hanging onto what I think was group 2 – in 34th place mind you – I had averaged 115% of FTP. Pretty much cooked in the first 5 mins. Made the (bad) decision to try to stick it out to the “top” of the incline but lost contact about 3/4 of the way up when it hit 4%. Then no draft again from 14:00 until 25:00 (11 minutes) while I waited for the next group. DukeNorton and Cuss finally rolled up after the downhill was over and I got to sit in until the steep climb, but instead of doing something north of 105% up the climb as planned, I only managed 94% and watched helplessly as first DukeNorton and Cuss pulled easily away, then ValRdz, Rouvy1Bryon, and Ogee screamed past, and finally Duckman2. Somehow, I did muster the strength to get to the top just ahead of BTK_jiri70_cz and we worked together to the finish. Brief scare on the way when my phone showed that 4WorldPeace and Mucker74 were gaining on us, but we made it safely home.
Pretty sure I’ve screwed my chances of staying in A5 this month by going out so hard at the start today – I blame Sharky and Pablo/Paul who I kept seeing early on – encouraging me to try and stay with them – sneaky bastards! ValRdz passed me on the monthly A5 standings and Duckman2 is right behind. I can’t climb with either one and with a 30 minute climb to start the race, I’ll have to do the best I can and then hope I’ll get lucky with a group that feels like chasing. Unlikely I’ll succeed, but I’m looking forward to giving it my best and seeing everyone again next Thursday!

    • Neil Rushby says:

Cheers Eric. Looks like you’ll be keeping a close eye on Duckman2 at the next race, But ValRdz is only a few points in front and when your in the top 50, that’s about 2 places only, So it’s all to play for! And if this competition gives you that extra push, then my work here is done lol.

I also went too hard along that first section but there’s no harm in it really! We are also racing against everyone else in all the other time slots and that extra push, to stay in the draft of that fast pack, might actually translate to a few places higher in the leaderboard that you just don’t see till the results. Well, thats what i tell myself when i know perfectly well i am burning way too many matches early on lol.

Good luck next week, But don’t worry too much if worse comes to worse, you’ll not finish “last” in A6 next month as i might be there, or if i get promotion, i’ll show you to properly loose in A5 lol

      • Eric H. (UncleE64) says:

Good chance we will swap cats next month. I’d make a cute remark about “duck hunting” except I’ll be the “hunted!”

        • Neil Rushby says:

i don’t think we will swap i think you’ll just do it! (unless they don’t show, then its only auto deduction if 4 or more of a certain cat finish 4 races or not)

  5. Brian Westfall (4WorldPeace) says:

Didn’t have my best start but manage to stay with some faster rider for a bit. I think I was closed to 40th place when I got to the top of the long gradual climb. I found a nice pack to ride with (Muckers1974, Bates1980, VilemStrakos, and StepanB) up over and down the hill. My plan was to hit the steep climb hard and see who would come with me. Bates1980 had the same idea so we worked together for a little bit until I started to pull away. Got passed by c.raig.g and Duckman2 about halfway I think. I saw BTK_jiri70_cz gaining on me and about 3/4s up thought maybe I could jump on and stay with him up over the top to have someone draft with down the hill but that didn’t happen. He just pulled away. So I rode down the hill solo with that group of 4 striding the gap. Could I get up and over that steep hill and be able to finish ahead of 4 on my own? Well I’ll give it a try and put as much as I could in to climbing that last hill. I noticed the Muckers1974 broke away from the group and was kicking hard and was bridging the gap fast. Could he maintain that power to the top? Was he going to pass me before the top? I pushed as hard as I could and we hit the green at the same time and worked together to the finish. 43rd finish in the heat, 49th in the final board and top in cat7 so I am really happy with my result.

    • Neil Rushby says:

Great ride Mucker. And you should easily be in A6 so hopefully you get a good result next week, grab those 10 bonus points and move on up to the next challenge!

      • Brian Westfall (4WorldPeace) says:

No pressure huh! I have to remember it’s all for fun. Love the challenge though!!

  6. I had hoped that I could jump out ahead of my competion, get in a big group and stay there over the top of the long uphill drag. I retrospective that might have been too obvious. I was happy to see the average power I had managed toward the top of the uphill drag. I could see all the usual riders just up the road. I emptied the tank on the steep section, just in case someone would crack. No one did but I didn’t either so that is a positive I can take away. Next week is definitly not my profile, the climb is to long!!! but the climb comes at the beginning so maybe select the lightest bike setup and hope to find an ally at the top. Or do I tempo ride to the top and catch up on the downhill???

    • Neil Rushby says:

hope you don’t loose too much sleep wondering what set-up to go for….. but i will be the same as that climb will kill me but i kinda know i will be fast on the downhill bit…. so i’ll be trying a 3.0 up the climb and see if i make it…🤞🤞🤞🤞

  7. Sunniva says:

My jump start plan fell apart when I realized my heart rate monitor wasn’t working and I panicked and ran around the house looking for another one.The race started while I was still pairing the sensors, hence the slow start and loss of the group. I slowly overtook others, looking for someone to join me. BTK_jiri70_cz helped me a lot, but I was too weak to keep up with his pace. He rode away, I rested for a while, and then I started chasing Stelviobound and StepanB. I was alone on the descent, which took a lot of effort, but I caught up, and then StepanB and I started working together. On a steep section, Neil was close; we were less than 200 meters apart, but I couldn’t climb any faster, and Neil and 4Worldpeace pulled away. I finished with StepanB. I was incredibly tired, but happy. (IF: 0.977 AVG 2.9 W/kg). Thank you all.

    • Brian Westfall (4WorldPeace) says:

I would have lost it too! I was wondering why you weren’t pushing me up those steep hills. Or maybe is should say pulling.😉

    • Neil Rushby says:

Sunniva! Please don’t panic about hr data for the Muckers Races! We are running a verified/non verified System now for hr data and once riders are verified (like yourself and all the regulars) then you won’t be checked for hr data every race anymore. So any weird issues like this, won’t now get an auto dsq like in the old NITEOR days.

Let me talk to you, show you what love can do. I wanna see you move, i know you can feel it too. Happy i could make it after all day conference, but with big question how it will go. Luckily tempo in the first half was okeish, so we could warm up properly. Then 5min of all out climb effort, where i ended up in duo with Andrus. I rather kept pushing as solo Hans was very close. Solid and fun race, but it will be more challenging as indoor temperature is getting every week up. Thank you all who joined us!

  9. Hans says:

Stayed with the front group in an ok tempo over the false flat until everything split up on the 2 km legbreaker. Eventhough I have always considered myself more of a climber and actually have the same weight now as when I was 20 I am just too heavy and definitely not as explosive and powerful as some of the top-topguys when it gets really steep. So close to hanging on in the top 5 over the top this time, so there is progress made on the 5 minutes max efforts. Solo TT mostly downhill the rest of the way chasing Karel and Andrus and ended up with a respectable 296 watt average for the whole race. Thanx for another fun race guys 👍🏻😎

  10. Duckman2 says:

Loved that course, some fun riding in there but still dropping what little form I have in the effort to hang with Uncle, Sunniva, 4WorldPeace (my favorite handle on the platform), ValRdz, and the rest of the happy crew.
