MUCKERS LAST HIIT OF 2026.
Hi Everyone,
So sorry for the delay getting these results to you. Family things just got in the way this time which meant i wasn’t going to get the time i needed till this morning (Saturday the 31st) to actually sit down and get this blog wrote.
A quick recap/reminder for those possibly new to this special event. I got the idea for this “event” a few years back after doing a few structured HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workout sessions and just thought “i wonder how could i get a training session in but it also be a race event?” The first one was then born, i looked at all the short routes and threw some together and guessed/hoped I’d got the spacings right for a recovery between them all. It wasn’t perfect, but everyone enjoyed so they were here to stay. I’ve re-jigged, messed around and found what i think works best for everyone, from route profiles to trying to keep the gaps the same and also naming the races a certain way so they are easy to find when you’re heart rate is at 170+.
I also like to give them a “theme”. Tonight’s was a trip around the world so i could only use one route from one country. This also helps newer riders get a few countries added to the “passport please” area on ROUVY that counts up how many different countries you visit and awards you as you gain more.
The actual idea is a flat out sprint on a route (the High intensity part) then enough time to back off, recover whilst you find your way to the next race ( the Interval part) and hopefully be ready for another flat out sprint to the line. And try and keep it to just over 60 mins. Plus we also want to make it a fun championship that we base on full accumulative time over the 16 races. We choose to do it this way now as it awards those that do all 16 which is the whole point of the event/training session. But remember, its about the session not the GC, that’s just in there because i know how it can motivate you more!
So without anymore delay, here’s how the last one of 2026 finished:
Our winner is the Rocket luke-vin!
And by some way so gotta’ give you props for a stand out effort! koniekupe secured 2nd and Tob22 secured the last podium place, then it’s a much closer battle for the rest of the places! Well done to all 3 of you!
But in the spirit of the session, 32 of you are winners as you did all 16 routes! It’s never easy and possibly the hardest you’ve pushed yourself for 22 to 42 minutes on your trainer! But if this GC is important to you, you can see from some parts just how close it was (look at 5th and 6th, is BTK_jiri70_cz now kicking himself he didn’t push that 0.3 of a second faster on one of the routes??😉)

FINAL THOUGHTS
Again, well done to all 32 who just ran with this, did all 16 routes and i really hope you enjoyed it. We only run them on the months that have 5 Thursdays so the next one will be April 2027! So lots of time to get ready for that! (yes we know December has 5 Thursdays but won’t be doing this on New Years Eve, sorry)
I suppose we need to talk about glitches as it happened to me on route 13 and also to simonjp. In the past, we’ve never really had this issue with the HIIT event apart from a totally separate issue where we had 1 route that was completed by some riders too fast to be deemed an official finish time so were dsq’d. We just removed that 1 route from the whole event and all was fine(ish) When this happens in a world championship race, we always say you have to let us know what happened within an hour of the last race, but it will more than likely be left as a DNF if its basically a glitch/power outage type thing. just treat it as if you’d suffered a mechanical in the real world. We know it sucks and at the time it’s the worst thing in the world, but in the grander scheme of life, it’s not and we treat it as such. But if you get a random DNF even though you finished, we ask to let us know where you finished and if you can get someone else to vouch they saw you, that would be even better, but if you are a verified rider with us, we generally take your word for it AND you normally have a finish time on strava or rouvy that we can use.
So for me, my crash happened about 2 seconds into it. full on app crash, reloaded, got back on and was obviously dead last but still had riders up the road so i then got the route finished then was just in time for the next one, but no recovery. My time on the race result shows 2:11 but my moving time was 1:16 so i can look at the GC and see 55 seconds faster would have put me 11th so I’m more than happy with that, no need to mess about with the GC, it is what it is.
simonjp is a little different as he crashed nearer the end and is shown as a DNF on ROUVY. Normally this is treated as a DNF and that’s it. But i can see from his stats that he completed 0.25 of this 0.28 long ride and was flat out! So he “did” the intensity. What is really strange is that he said he had jumped back on to finish the route, so it really should have started him from where he glitched and continued to the end like mine did and show 0.28 completed and a time. Maybe it doesn’t do that if you glitch so close to the end? So we are left with no finish time for this rider and would normally leave them out if this was a world championship race. But it’s not, it’s a one off HIIT event where doing all 16 routes is important. So we’ve added him back in so he’s included within the top 32 riders, but the only thing we can do is set your time the same as the rider in last place like we’ve done before when left with no official time to use. You can do your own maths to see where you might have come, but with no exact time, its guess work. But thank you for reaching out to us and we will make sure we don’t use that route again as that route must have something slightly off with it for it to fault on 2 of us.
Anyway, hope the above makes sense. Sorry it got a bit long winded. but wanted to be clear how we came to the solutions we did.
Thanks again everyone and hopefully see at the next one!

I was doing so much better than i expected just for the glitch to ruin it for me! I’d even seen 1st place in one race (obviously one of the downhill ones lol) but that was for a few seconds just before getting swamped by riders before the line. But i was feeling very competitive, especially on the downhill and flatter routes as i have weight on my side and as long as i can maintain the rocket start for long enough, i can be right in the mix. So apart from the glitch, i was really happy.
side note: i do love going onto the route leaderboards after these event to see how many riders from this event are now in the top 10 for the route overall. It always happens and glad to see it!
Evening Neil , thanks for including a time for me on route 13, it’s always good to be able to see where you came within the overall event, even after a glitch. Cracking training session, I always look forward to it!
