MUCKERS MAY CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 4. 23/05/24
ROUVY Route Used: Le Prese to Pradelle | Italy | 11.81 miles | 1781 ft climbing
Introduction:
4th round of 5 races in this months championship and today we have a hill climb, but not a 3000 foot one like we had last time out, this ones “just” 1781ft with an average grade of just 3% and a mx of 14%. Bike choice will be dependent on weight and what bits you want the help with. At nearly 90kgs, I’ll be going with the lightweight Feska to help me up the climbs, even though overall, one of the Treks will probably have an overall theoretical fast time, subconsciously, I want the help on the climbs that I feel I get from the lighter bike!
So this could be a nice “quick” race for some, but no matter how you tackle it, as per 99.9% of all our races, it’ll still get a challenge route ticked off and that’s what matters here, especially if the championship isn’t that important to you and this is just a stand alone race/ride in your eyes.
Speaking of the championship, now we are getting into those months when participation has dropped due to people freezing subscriptions and getting out doors more, those of us who stayed can now really get some nice points in the bag and see how high we can climb in the standings. Also these same riders have a great chance to get some great points in the world championship standings as well, so it really is a win-win for those who stay, especially those who at least join us on Championship Thursdays as it’ll soon be Winter and chances of top 50 placings get harder and harder to achieve! (i say this from personal experience!! (January and February i just about scraped enough points together to be classified in the top 50, just! this month i’m well inside the top 20 with 2 races to go!)
Anyway, we still have the extra 4 start times for those who what to join in and get there finish time blended into the main race finish order and get points (rules and conditions apply), So lets see how all those start times did first:

Nice to see the top 4 in the championship back to fight it out, with some additional strong riders in the mix as well! “Tuden” just gets the win in front of championship leader “BareRemi” then 30 seconds later we have a sprint for the last step on the podium which is just won by “breers33” beating “nelsonsnyder” by just 0.2 of a second!
5th comes “karel_sousek” , 6th “Stefan_Schmidt” 7th for the special appearance of “RocketRoy” , 8th to “Sefan793” , 9th to “Pfeffer” and last mention to Muckers Team rider “nielsbrynnum”. Muckers at both ends of the top 10! Nice work!
Interesting fact tonight, not 1 DNF. I honestly don’t think that has happened before??
Anyway, enough chatting, i’m sure you want to see how the championships looking! Cheers everyone and see you on the next one!

hard race for me! paced it how i wanted to, raced pretty well but even with a not too bad average watts of 241, i still only managed to finish in front of 4 other riders. I even probably climbed the 2nd climb as well as i have done in a long time, even pacing it just right to catch Duckman2 near the top and pull out a nice gap over the crest to keep any attacks from him at bay. Still nicely in the top 20 although its quite funny to be around Tuden and Nelson but its obviously because they’ve missed a race….. but still nice though
I can only sign what you write above. Without mention I’m 8 after 4/5. Plan was hold in group with Mike and Andy. At first was hard fior me to get in, in last possible moment I got it (I think that with little help of them). According to plan I drafted in group until last hill. The stronger ones disappeared so I climbed with Andy and also finished togethet.
In last flat race it will be hard for me, but I’ll do everything to stay in top 10. But Mike is just behind me and 11th is Tuden 🙈🥵🤷
This route needed a plan. I wanted to save energy for the final climb but knew it would be beneficial to have cooperation and draft on the long flat section before it, this meant using precious energy on the first smaller climbs. It worked out, kylofski was only 100ft ahead after the first climbs and allowed me to join up and we shared turns, and those important 50w savings, all the way to the final climb when we cut loose and he powered ahead. I now had a healthy gap to the following group and concentrated on matching their w/kg to the summit of the climb where I considered my position safe.
Race stats: Age : 57, Weight : 95kg, IF=1.011
Averages : 159bpm, 288w, 3.03w/kg.
Summer is back, but Muckers races don’t have a break. With that we started and after initial surge leading group established. During first shorter climb i pushed in front as i was feeling quite fine. Nelson and Tuden were most active riders over flat sections. Once we reached key climb in the second half, it was all about who reserved most of the energy. Tuden and Baremi flew away and i battled nicely with Nelson and Brian. Over the steepest part i was gaining a bit, but not enough to distance guys. We went over climb together and then i had not much chance in sprint. To sum it up, exciting race as always, thank you all who joined!
Tuesdays race was great for me, and I wasn’t sure I’d have the legs for Thursday’s encore, but no worries, still felt really strong! RaTim was on my wheel in the early going, and that was okay. I knew he’d be doing his utmost to stay on. But we were also with boogybill70 and reeled in Andy_UP and MatthiasHeil and a few others in short order. We were a good group of 7 or 8 through the middle part of the race after the first ramp and through the upward trending rollers. We caught anatso just before the Corva climb; why he waited I’m not sure as he was only with us a km or so before taking off on the climb. boogybill70 took off as well, as did nigelhardy, me following best I could. I was caught by DonMatteo_07 and Badeskum, but damned if I’d let them drop me, and we were still together at the top. Into the last 500 m and those young’uns threw down more watts than I’m now capable of, so I let go and cruised in by myself. That was such a fun race!
With all the great weather we’ve been having lately, it’s easy to forget there are still Muckers races happening on Rouvy (not really)! This was actually my first May championship race (out of four), as I tend to get out on the real roads when the sun is shining.
Considering that, I was pretty stoked to finish 24th out of 41 on this hilly course. The climbs definitely suited my riding style, and a big shout-out to S.Ludford for pulling me along for a good chunk of the race – until that last climb, anyway! 😉
While it might not be enough to crack the top 50 in the standings yet, this result definitely gives me a boost heading into the last of the series. Looking forward to seeing how we all stack up in the next week!
