MUCKERS SEPTEMBER CHAMPIONSHIP R2. 12/09/24
ROUVY ROUTE USED:
La Vuelta 2023 | Stage 21 – Madrid | 29.35 mi | 1,814 ft
EXTRA TIME SLOTS REPORTS:
9 Registered riders, turned into 3 on the start line, turned into 1 finisher on the 2LATE4ME version that ran on Wednesday morning. Well done to Muckers Worldwide team rider “cdtchris” for a fantastic solo effort in the end.
The 4:30am 2EARLY4ME version had one rider finish, which is a 100% improvement over last weeks total 😆, with a great solo effort from “Padihl” averaging a very strong 3.3w/kgs for the whole route.
The RISE&RIDE Time slot seems a popular option with the same amount of registered riders and finishers as last week. 17 registered, and 9 finishers. Lets give the top 3 a mention as it looked like a 3 way sprint with the gold just going to “paolobendy”, in front of silver placed “bismo” and bronze placed “Nuccio64”. 0.3 of a second separating these 2 very strong riders! Well done!!
5 finishers from 8 starters for the lunch time slot “EARLY-ON” version is another decent turn out, with a top 3 consisting of German rider “GhostPink” getting the gold, South African Muckers Worldwide team rider “Southafro” getting the silver, and Swiss rider “Jambo72” getting the bronze!
So we now had 16 riders who had finished this route and whos finish times had been loaded into the NITEOR program. These times gave the riders in the main race something to think about as they waited on the start line. But before we head to that report, we need to wait for the “LATER-ON” version to finish…… 4 finishers! I use an exclamation mark as this time slot rarely gets a single rider ( its just on championship nights for those who maybe are running a touch late and miss the main race) never mind 4, so we can do another top 3 from another time slot! 1st place goes to “Ulrich-NemPOS”, 2nd place to “kinnaidj” and third place ( and last of the extra time slot mentions) goes to “adamjoshua1401”
MAIN RACE REPORT:
116 registered riders tonight for this race!! I was thinking this was going to be down to riders registering when i first set it up months ago, but then jumped on the ROUVY grand finale race last Sunday which used the exact same route. So i jumped on the warm up quite early and was pleasantly surprised to see over 50 riders warming up with over 5 minutes to go. This just kept going up and up until we had over 70 then we were off!
We were so lucky tonight to have Colin @ inside cycling world actually doing a live feed with his unique style of commentary to go along with it, that it really felt we were in something quite special. The massive group of big hitters on screen ripping up this course meant this was gonna be a very tough 30 miles for every single one of us! I’d really recommend watching the video attached below, but for now we have the top 10 mentions to award!
New rider to the mentions, gets straight in there with a 1st place with a very strong ride from “cdn_bird” to get the win! I was wondering if anyone would smash the 60 minutes goal and he really wasn’t far away with a time 1 minute 11 seconds shy of it! 2nd place, and welcome back, its “Alieno79” who was doing so well for the first few months of the year then must have been outdoors for a nice amount of time! 3rd goes to another hitter from the winter months “BareRemi” , just 0.3 seconds away from 1st. If you watch the YouTube video on inside cycling world you see that anyone from the top 8 could have won this! 4th goes to “przemokrk”, 5th to “Stefan_Schmidt”, 6th to “TijsV” 7th to “Jmorales88” and 8th to “lrollin” but to be honest, these guys could have finished in any order, it was that close!
Last 2 mentions from the main race goes to “karel_sousek” in 9th and in 10th we have “FlyingSkywalker” making this such a quality top 10! please remember, you’ve now got your name in lights! you’ve got a Muckers Mention! please help us out and get over to the shop and maybe buy a special mention T-Shirt in a language of your choice? Maybe Spanish as this was a La Vuelta race?? Any purchase will really help us keep this going.
please pop a comment in the comment section to let us know how the race went for yourselves, let us know if we’ve made any mistakes and thank you all for reading the blog, especially those that read it to the very end. Thank you, Mucker1974.

what a massive race and event this was tonight. We’d decided to try and work together in a 3.0w/kg train then at the 60 min mark it was each rider for themselves. The 3.0 train was hard enough!! we set off, got up to speed and we found ourselves in and around 66th place! 66th at 3.0w/kgs! anyway, we stuck very nicely to the plan and picked off a few riders until we hit that 60 min mark and now in the top 50 of this race, and Luckily, only Mick went off and had a go to bridge the gap! he gave it a good go but soon realized he wasn’t gonna catch them so dropped back to us.
we had a pack of 5 riders and was set to just ride in but then Colin said on his video, something about lets watch these guys over the line so i had a go at a sprint from behind the pack, got the jump but as i saw Mick wind up the power, i knew i was done for! He passed me just before the line but he really deserved it.
my points tonight, just gets me into the top 50 but only just. this is going to be so hard to get top 50 now so its head down every Thursday and do my best!
Well done to all those that finished this nearly 30 mile route!
Seems like the big time: Madrid with a police escort, big field, strong riders, live broadcast with Colin at Inside Cycling World. I was pumped. But the race is a bit of a blur. Started with my best 8 min W of the past three months and was in a big group of, 15?, riders coming down the hill toward the rollers in the second half. It was going to be hard! But the rise after halfway broke us into thirds and I spent the rest of the race with chorus, KlausKinski, simon117, and (until we lost him) Andy_UP. It was insane. Holding 4s and 5s on the risers, telling myself to “keep it going, keep it going; you can see the top, you can see the top” and surging over the top to make the others work and tire them out (did that work?). Coming into the last couple km, chorus kept trying to get away, I kept trying to stay on his wheel, and the other two weren’t going away. Into the last 500 m, chorus lead out once again, I chased, JC (KlausKinski) passed, I got his wheel, gaining, gaining, but just ran out of road, and he got me by 0.02 seconds. Didn’t get off my bike for a while.
That’s for the mention Neil. It wasn’t solo until, maybe ⅔ of the route, and I wonder why riders quite after they have gotten so far in the race. Hopefully not for technical issues.
I like the long race without a infinity red hills, I did the same race the last Sunday afternoon and this time with more concentration and rest the day before, my time is improved for nice 8 min.
This time I and Duckman2 work always hard as a team and the result it’s fine. Thanks also Phil_SCRT work worded together us until half or more in race and in finally MatthiasHeil where all push in front to try to recovered to another group a few second from us.
Well done to everybody 💪👋🦈
Wow, what a mind blowing event tonight. A fantastic route, a huge amount of riders, a nice pacing strategy with some muckers and Colin is live on air 🤩
As Neil already mentioned, we agreed to ride at 3,0W/kg for the first 60 min with some muckers. The group worked well and we were able to improve our position from around 65 to top 50. After the agreed 60 minutes I started an attack and tried to bridge to the next group, where John aka “Duckman2” was in. “Duck” and me are very close together in the September championship and also have been in august CS. So, a good guy to battle with. I was hoping that one of my group would join me, but ….I was alone. It was a mission impossible. When I realized that, I fall back into my original group and prepared for a final sprint. The group was getting a bit faster, when riding to the finish line, but no one was fully exploding. Then Neil came from behind with a high effort. Luckily I saw it right in time, got his rear wheel and was able to pass him right before the line. Thanks to all rider for making this racing such an event. Especially to the head of Muckers, Kyle & Neil for organising and Colin for broadcasting (riding and watching the race live on second screen was insanely cool 😁 )
Really enjoyed that route, long flattish sections, with a few punchy climbs, had two horrible glitches and couldn’t catch Muckers 3.0 w group. Eventually caught Kyloski, and rode with him for a while, until he dropped me on the 20mile mark. Ended up cycling with David1951, and rolled in over the line me together. Many thanks Neil for all your hard work, organising these events
Crazy race. So fast. It was only my third race and I still have troubles keeping attched to a group. After a couple of km’s me and Schmidti were caught by a group of about 7 or 8 people. Altough I managed to do my turns at the front of the group, I had troubles keeping attached when I was at the back. With 2km to go they caught me out. The road had a shallow descend and I suddenly was behind for 20m. That very quickly went to 30, 50 and then there is no way back. Too bad, ’cause I kind of was looking forward to a sprint. Not that I had much left in the tank… I was caught by 2 other riders and I couldn’t even stay with them anymore. I was completly knackered. Looking back, it was an awesome experience, and I know now that I need more training! Big thumbs up for the organizers!
Before I start, I wish to give massive respect to Colin from Inside Cycling World for doing the live YouTube coverage on this ride.
This ride for me was more of a medium-paced ride, as I wanted to go and support a friend who is doing an Everesting attempt near me, and I wanted to join him for a few laps. So, this ride was not full-paced.
84 riders, I think, started this ride. I managed to get to 71st and ride with Jeff65 and a few others. With about 14 miles left, myself and StevlioBound continued together, pushing each other right up to the last small climb, where I pulled away slightly.
I finished in 63rd position. This was tougher than I wanted to ride. But it is what it is, I don’t care. 😀
See you all Sunday!
First ever race on Rouvy. Great fun, thanks everyone. Looking forward to the nextbome
I really had a fun ride with this race as I like these punchy courses the most. However. I can never let a groupetto get too far away when I’m recovering in the back from a pull or I’m sure to loose contact, 3 second bike to screeen delay is a killer. After some really fun group racing with a great group of folks a couple of hard bridge attempts at the end finineshed me off, but thanks to DonJulio and Thieu_DM I was able to drag myself across the line. See you folks on Tuesday : )
Fun Race¡¡¡ The Muckers races are gaining in level and participation as seen on Thursday. It was a special race for me because it was held in my city and passed through areas where I have lived and know well. About halfway through the route the groups were already formed, in my case a good group with Mike Hagen (we always ride close), Chorus and Simon117. There were moments when I thought we would catch the ones in front but it was not possible.
Sprint finish in which I surprisingly won (I am a horrible sprinter), with a slow motion sprint in which I did not even reach 6 W/k 🙂 but which I seemed to launch at the exact moment to catch my unsuspecting companions. A thousandth of a second later and Hagen would have won as you can see in the video.
Congratulations to all the participants and the organizers for the obvious success¡¡.
Big race with many very good riders as the summer is over for now and there is a risk of flooding instead for the weekend. While i welcomed long distance, i was also concerned as i still feel tired every day, maybe missing energizing Italian air? Over twenty people in front group, but with many short attacks and furious pace we dropped few until we stayed nine. Then in second half i could not produce another short burst of power and get dropped too.
Quite far from the finish and with strong group behind i was crying i will be caught soon, staying alone in between two big groups. To my surprise when i kept pushing full out ~300w avg i could keep them distanced. They were coming for me, but when i survived last bumps i could hold on 9th place. That is great, because i would end up same in sprint finish. Short power peaks is something i definitely do not have capabilities now. Heart rate meter striked so no data, but i peaked well over 180, i know. Great racing, thank you all who joined!
The big return of powerful engines. With a new contender in the Muckers races. Cdn_bird, to name him, is a particularly strong competitor. Regularly in the top 10 of the UCI Gran Fondo, which is somewhat the world championship for older riders, he’s at a very high international level among amateurs. And we can say he gave us a tough time, it was him against the rest of us. So it was hard to keep up with the intense bursts of attacks, especially with peaks over 10w/kg on the climbs. I stayed focused until the last kilometer to avoid getting dropped. I was surprised there were still 9 riders left in the final third of the race, and 8 after Karel got dropped on a climb. I thought I would be the one to get dropped first from the group, but Karel was the one. In the final sprint, I knew I didn’t have much of a chance. I followed Stephan as much as I could, then let the sprint go. I neither had the will nor the legs to push 1000 watts to hope for anything better than last in the leading group. Another 3 places lost to Stephan, who’s pulling ahead in the annual overall standings.
To be continued next Thursday…
