MUCKERS Slovenian Alpine Peak Race Night. 06/06/23

Rouvy Route Used: Mangart | Slovenia | 6.74 miles | 2772 ft climbing.

Route 1 from the Slovenian Apline Peaks | Medium challenge

28 registered | 13 finishers | 3 DNF | 12 DNS

Now this takes me back! When we first started out, we always reserved Tuesday Nights for some hill climbing then Thursdays would be races. This all changed when we decided to focus on using the challenge routes only for races, so it seemed fitting and a nice trip down memory lane, that we got a hill climb on a Tuesday this week. We’d also added the extra incentive to get this done in 65 minutes so you could get to the 2nd event which was the small route from the Czech National parks challenge.

Quite a nice start on this route, followed by a lovely downhill section until you hit the long climb to the end, which included some dark red sections just to keep you wondering just why you were actually doing this!!

Tuden” somehow got up this in 37 minutes and 10 seconds, with “karel_sousek” just 16 seconds behind in 2nd! Both riders averaging 10.8MPH or more on this climb! Team Adam-Chris next (its been a while since we had both riders join us) with “hinsbergen” getting the bronze and “adampel” having to settle for 4th. All 4 of these riders somehow managed to stay above 10 mph for this event. Superb effort.

Just under 4 minutes ands 30 seconds later, “giorgiotriboldi” came over the line to claim 5th, then Irish rider “rmadden1” popped over the line 4 minutes later in 6th, were these constant Big gaps or did we have some racing to create them??

2 minute gap to 7th place rider “rouvy1bryon“, then another 2 minutes later “GhostKiller” claiming 8th.

9th and 10th came 2 Muckers Worldwide riders with “denny44” claiming 9th, then “Ryanio-Bianchi” getting the last mention in 10th.

Well done to all 13 that finished this and especially those who carried on and did the next event as well. over 3000 ft on a “school” night is some good going!

Hopefully see you at the next race event.

cheers

That was hard! I’m not the best climber, even though i do like a good climb, but i set off basically hoping to get to the top in that magic 60 minutes target so I got to the 2nd event. was pulling a nice 300 watts on the first little climb, feeling quite good, hit the downhill section and recovered nicely, then as the main climb hit me, i had nothing! that 300 watts was all gone and i was struggling to hit 200! so i got my head down, span the legs to 80+rpm and just plugged away as it, trying so hard to up the speed on those very few yellow sections, just to try and keep my average speed high enough to do it in the time I wanted. Overtook 2 that quit for whatever reason which always makes me smile, then came over the line just 38 seconds over the hour mark! Plenty of time to get onto the 2nd ride!

bad luck for me last night guys, I had a good start, I like the climbs and my legs were ok.
I was competing for 10th place when after 25 minutes…. I broke the chain 🤬🤬🤬.
Maybe see you tomorrow night if I get the new one 💪

Well done, Mucker! 300 watts is an impressive feat for anyone. When I take on a challenge like this, I aim to maintain around 280 watts, which drops to 275 watts towards the end. However, this one was particularly demanding when considering the numbers. Last night, I ventured out into the real world and covered 40 miles with a 4000-foot climb. I truly enjoyed it. Looking forward to seeing you all at the flat race on Thursday.

Great ride by all and well done all who completed. I was slow at the start at was last but just allowed my legs to find a rhythm. I tried to follow ghost killer but he slowly pulled away and then Denny44 caught me. I saved abit for the last section, but left it too late to catch ghost killer and denny44, I was approx 600ft behind and then closed it down to about 250ft but ran out of road. But enjoyed the climb. 11-25 cassette worked ok and think I can improve on my time. Again great ride all and well done swifty for not giving up and completing. Nice 👌

Was a good but tough ride. No time to recover. @Ryan: you started strong and at the split time I had a one minute gap. Tried to maintain the power and could hold that. Noticed that I was getting a bit closer. At the steep sections you were faster and I always lost a bit. Just tried to keep my own rhythm. When I caught you I had no plans what to do. Just rode and tried to keep the power high. Was a bit surprised that you couldn’t follow. At the last 500m I was really tired and happy to go a bit slower just enough to maintain 9th. Wouldn’t go so hard wihout other riders chasing me 🙂 Thanks Ryan for pushing me

    • Neil Rushby says:

well done Ryan and i agree, an extra well done to Swifty!
