MUCKERS Thursday Night Warm Up Race 16/03/23

Rouvy Route used: Challenge Vansbro | Sweden | 18.83 miles | 419 ft of climbing

Route 2 from the Scandi Spin with Liv Cycling | EASY challenge.

41 Registred | 22 finishers | 4 dnf | 15 dns

Seemed a good idea to leave this race as an hour long before the main race, but lining up on the start line, the mental arithmetic was going crazy trying to work out what speed I need to do to finish this, recover, load up the main race, then be ready to go! 419 ft isn’t too bad and 19mph should be just nice enough to achieve, but I worked out it’d have to be 20mph minimum to get the above done and onto the main race in time.

26 of us lined up on the start and off we went, trying to get into a nice pace/pack and settle into this really nice route again. I’ve been really impressed with this Scandi Spin challenge and its 3 routes, well done Rouvy for this challenge, its been great.

feelslikemonday” smashed this one with an average speed of over 26mph! just 4 seconds behind came the very strong German “Simon_Hahenbruch” in a time of 42 minutes and 16 seconds. Just over a minute later came “bismo” to claim the last place on the podium, closely followed by “PatrykS_Gdynia_PL

5th was “Karel_Sousek” with team mate “Technik_11” just behind in 6th, seems they worked quite nicely together to get that top 10 placings for both riders. 7th was “Ralfz” then came top placed Muckers Worldwide rider “Tom-MWW” in a really impressive 8th! Strong ride Tom!

9th came “Ghostkiller” , still pulling a very impressive 24.8mph average, followed by the very consistent “mgk1971” in 10th, just 3 minutes and 26 seconds behind the winner.

All 22 riders finished under the 60 minutes time constraint for race 2 so I’m happy with the timings after all. Well done everyone and hope you all enjoyed it.

Remember to leave a comment so we can read how the race went from your perspective. That’s what being a Mucker is all about.😁

cheers

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

15th for me and what a cracking race! Ended up settling into a nice group with me, Wiep, rogerstrainer and lrollin. Each of us taking in turns, sometimes getting a little break away but then re grouping. the race went in a flash while concentrating on not getting dropped until all of a sudden we are at the last half a mile. I was perfectly positioned at the rear of the group then with about, 900 ft, everyone kicked, but the road went up slightly which meant I could stand up and just give it what for! 180bpm and I won the sprint just 0.00.03 seconds in front of Wiep! Really happy after that!

As with every race, I visualised riding over the finish line with my arms in the air and kissing my jersey … then the race starts. I thought this flat race would suit an old club TT rider so started brightly up at the front, the clever riders let me have my 30 seconds glory (I should have kissed the jersey then) before leaving me gasping in their wake. Reality check, I’m not that fast, I could even see I wouldn’t hold the second group so looked down the rider list for someone doing power numbers less insane, ‘jeff65’ was heading my way so I soft pedalled while he came across (I think it’s Jeff because he’s called Jeff and 65 because that’s the speed required to stay on his wheel). We worked really well together for the entire race length, when Jeff went ahead I had to surge to ‘keep on’, the cynic inside me thought he was checking out my energy levels for the eventual sprint. We were getting tired as there were moments where we were saying “after you” … “no, after you” as we rode at half power, but we couldn’t mess around as the group of four riders behind were looking strong and obviously working well. At one point I seemed to do two u-turns in the road, get my map book out and scratch my head before continuing. Anyway, we rolled over the line in perfect harmony … oh no I remember wrong … we didn’t … I did the dirty and put in a massive sprint on my team mate, sorry Jeff.

Steven, lol, actually did laugh out loud reading this! might have to get you on as a guest writer in the future! The “after you…no, after you” body dance your avatar does when you back off is so funny. we have to call it the “no, after you” bob! But, we all know it well!! Jeff’s a very forgiving rider and a superb team mate, but he will have his revenge no doubt. Thanks for commenting, made my night!

      • Jeff says:

Revenge is a dish best served cold ( only joking of course Steve ), what a brillant account of the race.It was the first outing on my new bike, after i downloaded the dreaded Rouvy update, and the first time i have felt confident to give it 100% after my hamstring strain. So as always the start was frantic, and after a mile, soon found myself in no mans land, ahead of Neils group, and chasing Steves group. After a few 4watt efforts,i nearly gave up chasing, and then i noticed Steve dropping back to join me,and we spent the rest of the race drafting each other, until my teamate out sprinted me to the line!!!!Great fun as always and thank you Neil and Kyle for all your hard work.

Beautiful event with top racers, congratulations to everyone!
Today wasn’t my day, I didn’t feel fit although I rested for a day. On top of that, my internal clock wasn’t working properly today, the race started suddenly and I hadn’t even buckled on the chest strap. Bad luck. On the relatively flat, but very beautiful track, I hardly had a chance to make up for lost time. I’m quite strong on hilly routes (lightweight), on the flat I usually lose valuable seconds. And again I couldn’t find a “wingman”, you were all gone when I entered the race with all these supersonic aircrafts…. 🙂

    Well done!

I kept a close eye on your gap to us when you were closing in and even as a group of four working together, you still caught us up and then dropped us all! you were just a touch too strong to stay with so i had to stay back with the pack otherwise I’d have burned myself out trying to be your wing man! I’ll keep working at it and hopefully one day i can be strong enough to stay with you. Thank you for the comments Chris.

  4. Torben Adolph says:

Thanks Neil for really making me feel welcome as a novice to your “warmup” ride. For me it was a race and trying to stay on the tail of the front group didn’t go as planned. The gap was to big and I had to do my own pace. But this is not the last time I ride in your race/ride. Thanks mate 🙂

    • Neil Rushby says:

Hi Torben, you were strong at the beginning and i thought you might just stick it out with us. Sometimes its worth just going into the red to then stay on the back of the pack than getting dropped completely and having to do the whole thing on your own. considering you did most of it on your own, coming home only about 2 minutes behind my pack is a very strong effort and i think you maybe could have held on!?? Hopefully see you again soon and thanks for the comment.
