MUCKERS THURSDAY RACE NIGHT. 07/12/23

RACE 3 OF 13 MUCKERS RACES IN DECEMBER.

Route Used: Kingston to Glenora | Ontario | Canada | 31.69 miles | 711 ft climbing

78 Registered | 63 Starters | 52 Finishers | 11 DNF | 15 DNS

Tonight’s route is a perfect example of why we love to race! A long route, with a few little kickers, could be a little boring as a solo effort, but get in a large pack, drafting and attacking, and you end up amazed how quickly the whole thing flashed by and did you actually see any of the scenery or were you just concentrating on not getting dropped!!

“Alieno79” has now entered the Muckers December Championship properly with 2 wins and a no show and resumed his battle with “karel_sousek” with the Italian getting the better of the Czech rider tonight by 12 seconds! Over 2 minutes in front of the battle for 3rd which finished with “Stefan_Smit” getting the bronze medal just in front of “FlyingSkywalker” and “lrollin” Superb results guys!

In a bit of no-mans-land comes 6th place “A2-569-DIEGO-DONATI” but then a full on race between 4 riders for 7th was eventually won by “s.cata”, with “Grep.” in 8th , top Muckers Worldwide Team Rider “Andy_UP” getting a superb 9th and “pavelfoltny” rounding out the top 10. Superb effort to get in this top 10 tonight!

4 riders next, all finishing just 3 minutes and 31 seconds behind the winner, with 11th to 13th places all being Muckers Worldwide Team riders: “Tuden”, “nielsbrynnum” and “El_Tractor” then British rider “RocketRoy” getting 14 place. 2 seconds later “boogybill70” pops over the line, then 3 seconds later comes “BTK_jiri70_cz”

Next we have out only NED in the top 20, then 2 more Muckers next in the guise of “Grochang” and “Svard” and finally rounding out the top 20 comes the 5th Danish rider “m-forby“! These Danes are really getting a strong grip on this Virtual riding!!!

Well done to all 52 finishers tonight, we hope you enjoyed it and we also hope you are enjoying what the Muckers races bring to ROUVY with as fair as we can races and regular riders we know we can race against!

Please don’t forget to check out our Muckers Worldwide merchandise, plus the 2024 cycling range we just released with Owayo ( see blog on the site) as just the odd purchase of these items really does keep the candles burning here at Muckers Towers.

Next Race in the December 13 race Championship is Race 4 on Sunday with a nice Hill climb from the GCN challenge. link Attached:

Neil Rushby

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

Probably one of my most enjoyable races on Rouvy in a long time, and it was all to help a fellow Mucker win the sprint!! We’d agreed to try and ride as a group tonight and whoever was in the front, didn’t go higher than 3.0 and it worked quite well. As we came to the end, we had arranged to go at the very last split start, but around 1.6 miles out, Jeff65 WhatsApp’s us to ask if he can go for it at 0.8 miles out and hopefully surprise the rest in the group who’d joined us! I was almost at max at this point and was happy to roll over the line as 38th was safe from behind, but i thought I’d do my best to lead him to that magic 0.8 as best I could then I’d be done! so I think i was now close to 4.0s and concentrating on keeping Jeff in that 11/12ft behind me sweet spot! if it went to 10ft, i knew i had to try harder, but if it went to 13, back off a little! i somehow got him to the 0.8 mark and i was done!!!!! I Just remember seeing them all disappear into the distance, hoping it worked, and it did!! With some more help for another Mucker (S.Ludford) Jeff won our little groups race!!! The WhatsApp chat went crazy afterwards and we were all buzzing! Now, did anyone see any scenery on this route as I know I definitely didn’t!!

11th in the Championship is really good for me, but I will be missing Sundays race as I’m taking the current Mrs. Mucker to away for the weekend to Chester Markets and she’s said “no way” to getting back early for the race! 🙄😉 So I hope I at least stay in the top 25! 🤞🤞🤞🤞

  2. Silvia says:

What an incredible race 🤪. Again nice and flat, just the way I like it 👍. Had to work so hard to stay in the different groups of Muckers I was in 🥵. Started with SwissChris69, Tranberg and Flyger. We picked up MatthiasHeil , but lost him. Then all of a sudden NielsBrynnum and Tuden flied by and the whole group tried to hang onto them. Didn’t succeed for long, but we did pick up Svard along the way. The group was split and I stayed with SwissChris69 (who did most of the work 🙏) and Svard for quite a while. Then we picked up MikeHagen and stayed together until the end.
In the nearby list I saw Grochang and m-forby coming closer doing 5W/kg. Only 8 km to go and they were 700 m behind 😱. Really needed some form of communication in Rouvy to discuss strategy with my group. Discord next time?
Of course those animals caught us 500 m before the finishline and then we all started to sprint 🤪🥵. I ended up in the middle at place 21, very pleased with this result 💪, but missed a mention here by 1 second 😭!
Thanks to all the Muckers I rode with tonight and who lent me their wheel 🙏.
I see I made it into the top 10 in the December championship 🥳. I’ll enjoy it while it lasts, since I can’t make it to the next 2 races 😢. CU next Thursday Muckers 😃

    • Neil Rushby says:

well done on a fantastic result. So many regular fast riders in your group as well! this months Championship was designed to just give extra incentive whenever you could join a Muckers race as everyone is going to miss a few along the way And we are getting new riders joining us every race and whoever joins us from Sundays race will already be 600 points worse off from missing the first 3 races! See you on Thursday!

  3. Mike Hagen says:

A longish and flattish course, and in Canada, suits me, right?  So the plan for today was maximal effort and to have my best race in a while.  Got a really good start, maybe my best in months. Once the ghosting settled down I could see I was hanging just outside the top 10; bit of a gap, but s.cata and boogybill came by and we worked our way on.  It was a hard pace, but I thought I could do it for an hour.  Nope.  Hit a low spot, got gapped, shat out, and off the back.  Bummer.  Soloed much of the middle part.  Tuden, Niels, and tranberg steamed by, I tried to catch the train, but couldn’t do it.  Saw that SwissChris, Svard, and SillySil were slowly gaining and would inevitably catch me, so I eased to wait for them.  Really nice to ride in a group of Muicker blue!  We were about 600 m ahead of the next group when they caught me, and I thought we’d have a nice cruise to the finish.  But, no; 14 km to go, saw that the Grochang, m-forby, hj2010 chasers were only 400 m back!  And pulling some massive watts.  Upped the effort then.  I thought we four worked really well together, not perfectly organized, but that is very hard virtually.  We had a cycle going, and seemed to be paying good attention to keeping the gaps between us to about 3 – 4 m.  But not enough, with only 2 km to go, the chasers caught us, just as we were overhauling yayarecki.  I think.  Not sure what happened the last bit, not enough oxygen in my brain!  That was a fun race. And, no, Neil, I don’t remember any scenery.

  4. HalAir says:

Sounds like I missed out on a cool race! Was otherwise occupied this evening so had to sit this one out 😥
These long flat routes dont really suit me, but that is probably due to lack of specificity training on my end but something I hope to improve on over the winter 😅

I’ll be back in race mode on Sunday + pop into APOLOGETIC RESCHEDULE OF TINDEVEGEN! either Friday night or Saturday morning…! 😋

  5. Manuel Lamber says:

I waited for this race in the afternoon, I wanted to see my improvements on the field… and instead…. due to discussions with my son, I managed to start at 8.03pm, 500 meters from position 62, what a drag. So I start hunting, head down and maximum effort… and what an effort, I want at least the top 50, then after 11 km I start to get there, then I decide to continue attacking, I want the top 40 but it gets tough. Seeing your comments with so much draw, well unfortunately I didn’t find any. When I saw that the next one was Kyle and 2 other Muckers (DolphWader and Mick_Michel) I gave all my energy to capture them… I got close, very close. Let’s keep this race as hard training and regret for not starting on time.

  6. Steven Ludford says:

Enjoyed this race immensely, rode in a very big group that at various times including most of the riders that finished between 28th-40th position. The Muckers had agreed the strategy in advance and the other riders seemed to work it out and everyone did their bit to keep the pace at 3.0w/kg at the head of the group. Jeff65 asked if he could try an attack with 0.8mile to go, the Team Road Captain gave him the ‘thumbs up’ and it became ‘Operation Jeff’, Mucker1974 took up position with about 1.1 mile to go and I gradually came alongside carefully hoping nobody spotted the plan, Jeff launched, people hesitated and I sat in their draft preparing my own sprint. I was unsure Jeff could hold off the strong names behind, but he did it … Chapeau Jeff. Recently, I come to the line completely exhausted to sprint but I was feeling really good today due to the group draft, Neil had challenged me to do a 10w/kg sprint and I couldn’t let him down could I … 1000w and 11w/kg later I was done, although I was still out sprinted by Neprud, well done Sir.
    Race stats: Age : 56, Weight : 95kg, IF=0.918
    Averages : 148bpm, 263w, 2.78w/kg.

  7. Andy_UP says:

Started fast, but not all out. I wanted to be in a nice fast drafting group, as this route suits perfect for this. After a few 100m I rolled into first position, with Matthias Heil, the famous cannonball starter, in my wheel. I honestly don’t know what happend. Anyway, I didn’t see many superfast guys. Alieno, Karel, Stefan Smit and Irollin. This is going to be an intresting race. So the fast guys eventually took off, didn’t really try to follow, I know I can’t in the long run. So settled in the second group (racing for 6th to 10th position!). Special thanks to the strong Diego Donati, he did 80% of the pulling, keeping a steady pace, fast enough to not let the big chasing group get closer, without surges so I could maintain the draft around 95% of my FTP. s.cata closed the gap on his own in the last kms, so a top10 was suddenly uncertain. I had to beat 1 person. So I focussed on Pavelfontyn, who was the least strong of the 5 other. Took his wheel, kept in the draft as everyone took off. I passed him 150m before the line. Top10! Wait a minute, I’m 9th… Checking the results and the Swiss woman Coci, who finished just infront of me, has a DNF. She must be very annoyed. So for the record, she was 9th. I had an IF of 1.01 on 1h12’35” so I was on my limit. Very fun, very happy!

  8. lrollin says:

What a shame that the official Rouvy race an hour earlier created significant competition for the Muckers race. Consequently, quite a few participants were missing at the start of this race. As for my race, it started off fast with the leading group until the 20th kilometer. Then alieno79 pushed harder to break away solo. I stuck with Karel_Sousek, who quickly dropped me with an attack at over 7 watts per kilogram. I took some time to drink and increase the fan speed while waiting for the small group composed of Stefan_Smit and FlyingSkywalker. We rode well together until the last kilometer. Yet another missed sprint that I initiated too early. Since my trainer’s cassette doesn’t have the final gear, I couldn’t catch up with Stefan_Smit, who was in excellent form during this race.

  9. Nagy Róbert says:

Wow, guys, that was a perfect race, just one mention: more from this!!
Flat, and long, that’s for me.

And I’m extra happy I could ride with the hard-core Mucker-team for a while 🙂

Anyway, I’s still quite weak, I don’t know why. Just checked my spring-races this year, where I could do 240-50 Watts with lower bpms, now I was happy t exceed 230 at max.. That’s it, maybe still a post-covid stuff, hope it will be better. I think I sit back to the good old workouts, they’ll be good for me these weeks.
But if you do something similar to this, I’ll pop up 🙂

  10. Michael Michelius says:

A fantastic route is on the agenda today. Flat with some short, flat ramps. Perfect terrain for a drafting train. So a few riders got together in a group and rode at the front with 3.0W/kg. The lead kept changing, so everyone could get their recovery breaks. It worked great until Torben “DolphVader” lost contact. Kyle dropped back to help him find his way back into the group. Some time later I did the same and sat between our big group of muckers and Kyle/Dolph. Unfortunately, it was until then that I realised they wouldn’t be able to rejoin the group. So what to do now? I tried to catch the group again but the pace was too fast for me. So I was stuck in no-man’s-land. Towards the end, when it was absolutely clear that I wasn’t going to make it back to the front group, I decided to drop back and take the wind away from Kyle and help my two teammates. You could say it was a stupid decision by me to leave the group and fall back, but do I race to score points and good positions? Yes, but not only. So maybe it was an unlucky decision, but I would probably do it again next time 😉💪👍
    Cheers Micha (aka Mick_Michel)

The plan from the beginning of the race was to join the Muckers 3 w/kg race 🚴🏻‍♂️💨💨 but around the 15 km mark I saw my strong fellow 🇩🇰 “Tuden” passing our group so I decided to join him. We keep a good pace and worked well together 👍🏻 We got accompanied by another really strong 🇩🇰 “Tranberg” and the 3 of us stayed together until “Tranberg” unfortunately got dropped around 10 km from the finish line. Tuden and I continued and caught another group where we stayed with until the sprint. Tuden opened the sprint with 350 m to go, I tried to catch his wheel but I 😅 did not manage to pass him despite it got close towards the finish line.

Before the race, a few Muckers suggested riding together, creating a sea of blue Muckers jerseys, and taking turns on the front at a steady 3.0 W/KG. I agreed and pledged to drop back if anyone fell behind, helping them rejoin the group.

The race began, and for the first 14 miles, we maintained a strong Muckers group with a few other riders. However, “DolphWader” got caught out, falling a few places back. I dropped back to assist him, and to my delight, fellow Mucker “tomlerieger” also joined in supporting us. The three of us covered about 4 miles together until a glitch separated us from “tomlerieger” 😢.

Observing “Mick_Michel” slowing down, “DolphWader” and I jumped on his wheel, finishing the race as a united Muckers trio. It was a true display of Muckers teamwork—collaborating, supporting, and working together. Looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday for the GCN hill climb.

How could a dull flat route be so much fun, the answer is join the Muckers Worldwide peloton! As in previous comments, we all rode together, taking in turns on the front, and trying no to go over the 3w/kg, think with a couple of miles to go, for one reason or another, the group had 10 riders in it,so for a bit of fun I asked the boss man Neil, if I could attack with 0.8 miles to go. As I’m no sprinter ( or hill climber) that was the only way I was going to win our mini race, had a great lead out from Neil, and S . Ludford held the other riders up. Caught rouvy1 Byron on the line, and I think there were only a few seconds between the 10 riders, brilliant result for me, who is usually last when we do a hill climb. Many thanks for organising these races 👍

My legs were screaming for an easy ride but unfortunately I’ve got the Tuden syndrome. We were both throw off several times before gun start. I was on my PC Windows10, and had to change to the Apple TV. Two minutes later I was sprinting to catch the Mucker peloton. Tuden was coming from behind, and I knew I didn’t had to wait for him, I saddle into his rear wheel for a very short amount of time – my legs were still screaming: “don’t do this to me!!!” I caught up with hj2010 and we found later on m-forby. What a dreamTeam we made from Kingston to Glenora but we were missing one Danish rider on our way? Nielsbrynnum who we all had agreed on taking the road with in companion with the Mucker Pelotons😂 You all know that storyline from Niels⬆️
Halfway through my legs were getting warm and we continue to chase groups after groups. Finally, we had one group left, to pull in before the finish line. I wasn’t sure we could do the 800 m catch with only 11 km to go, but every ascent brought us closer to SwissChris, SillySiNL, Svard and Mikehage. Sadly I pushed the last 100m a bit too hard for hj2010 to join the SwissChris group – no trouble for m-forby to take my wheel. I tried to slow down the pace for hj2010 to catch up, but the pace didn’t drop and we ended up in a 300 meter sprint, which, by the way were surprising, hard to win against Svard💪
    PS.
I have promised Sylvia to keep in mind to let her get a top 20 mention next time she has that opportunity – let’s see if I’m a man of my words😉
Thanks Kyle and Neil for every single race I have completed and all the next one in the future👍
