Tough night tonight! Matched up todays Stage 16 from the real La Vuelta with the 2 Stage 16 routes from the ROUVY La Vuelta challenge. We start at 7pm but the 2nd race starts at 8:10pm so if you aim for a 19mph average speed over this, you will get there in time! its gonna be tight for some, and quite easy for other! Lets see how many manage this……

Pleasant surprise to see we had 73 register for this and 50 on the start line! And it was our first ever live stream of the race on YouTube! Looks like the 3 big guns turned up for their moment of glory with “Tuden” getting the win, with a nice gap to “nelsonsnyder” in 2nd and who was closely followed over the line by “karel_sousek” in 3rd.

4th went to “stefan793” , 5th to “Minyana”, 6th to “clem59299” and 7th to tonight’s top Muckers Worldwide team rider “Berty-Bassett6” but all these 4 coming over the line with no competition around them!

The next 3 however did have a sprint finish with “Groenen” claiming 8th, just in front of “yayarecki” in 9th and “VeriniAlfin” in 10th! 11th comes “robinpietschmann”, 12th “El_Tractor” , 13th and second Muckers Worldwide team rider “MikeHagen” then in 14th, French rider “lrollin”!

Top 14 places taken up by 14 different nationalities! That is a record and what a race to do it on!

next 2 places go to strong efforts by another 2 Muckers Worldwide team riders with “DonJulio” in 15th and “denny44” in 16th. Well done guys. “robse3011” claims a nice 17th, then another 2 Muckers Worldwide team riders in the next two places with “kylofski” in 18th and “S.Ludford” in 19th. So who gets the last mention??? only “Squalo_delle_Alpi” with a brilliant ride to get into the mentions!!

Well done everyone as this was a fast and frantic race and in no way an easy one!

Neil Rushby

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

what a nice route to race on. got going quite nicely then settled into a nice pace, trying to work with dolphwader while we picked a few riders off until we caught rogerstrainer who stuck with us. had a great battle with him for a while, then i kicked on one of the little licker hills and got a nice gap. i saw he wasn’t going to chase me down so i backed off but just kept enough on just to “hopefully” stop him thinking to attack! caught and passed dolph then chilled to the line, totally ready for the 2nd race!

Last week I complained that my stream glitched, that I was pedaling but the bike wasn’t moving, and folk were disappearing up the road.  Happened again today.  But it’s not the stream, it’s me.  My legs really are trashed!  After the start today, I was in a bit of no-man’s land, about 70 m behind DonJulio and about 70 m ahead of denny44.  So do I chase DonJulio, or do I wait for denny44?  If I wait for denny44, the two of us can catch DonJulio more easily, but if DonJulio catches El_Tractor first (he was another 70 m or so up), those two become very hard to catch.  Hmmm, what to do, what to do.  Actually, I don’t think like that; DonJulio was a red flag, I just chased.  I caught DonJulio just after he caught El_Tractor, and then lrollin came back to us and we were a group of four for most of the race.  With about 8 km to go, the group of four ahead of us was about 500 m up, and I thought we could catch them.  But our group wasn’t very well organized; we weren’t working together well enough to close the gap.  Those four ahead were pulling away.  The last km, I just went, thinking my best bet was to overpower the others in my group.  And that mostly worked; El_Tractor was the only one to get ahead before the finish. So much for my plan to take it easy. Now a 15 minute rest and try again.

lol, its nice to dream you will think and act tactically isn’t it…… cheers for commenting mucker and well done on a really strong race considering your legs are trashed! take care.

    • Wim Bonckaert says:

Sometimes it’s brutal to read that you gave it all with good legs, to read that the guy you were clinging onto had trashy legs. But I’m happy, I gave it all. I tried to take some turns on the front, but Don Julio & lrollin didn’t take any turns. It was clear I was only going to be able to sprint for 12th place by sticking in your wheel Mike. Sorry and thanks 😉

  3. Steven Ludford says:

With some early climbs I wasn’t expecting too much from myself and kept calm doing my own pace hoping I wouldn’t be alone. Luckily, I ended up in a decent group working quite well, as it started to reduce in size teammate ‘kylofski’ joined ‘robse3011’ and myself, Kyle could have powered on as we still had climbing to do but he knows my climbing limits and kept me in the group long enough for us to join ‘denny44’ who fell back to us to help create a strong 4 rider group. This group performed well and I was even able to take a few turns on the front before starting to get tired and having to occasionally accept Daniel’s well paced pulls back to the group. I dropped power towards the finish as a signal to the teammates ‘I was done’ and let 3 of them race the finish, happy with my race position.

  4. Lamber Manuel says:

As always, it’s a pleasure to participate in a race with many drivers and it’s not to be taken for granted, well done to everyone.
Tough, hot race and so I set off in search of a group that pedals hard to attack me. I manage to get to where I find S. Loudfor and Kyle, I take a closer look, perhaps my vision has deteriorated due to the effort but instead it’s them. I know they are stronger so I try to see what happens, the goal is to improve. I manage to stay close but then in the end I break away and lose them. In the end the route adapts to me with the climbs that don’t destroy me, I catch up with Widy, I’m close to it for a bit to understand if he still has fuel, I attack the hills again with 4 km to go to get first a good 20th and then finally also a mention 😜. I catch my breath lying dead in the garage and think… there’s another race… OMG

  5. Torben Adolph says:

Great race. Had really good legs doing easy 3.6 w/kg. Sorry Neil for not riding stable but I had this crazy idea that I’d to catch up on everyone in front of me. But finally I found a good pace for us to work with but then crazy DolphWader voice spoke to me that I should do a burst and catch up on RubenFininho, but just 2 km before the finish line my salmon for dinner was about to burst out the wrong way and I had to slow down. But some nice battles on the race.

  6. Henrik Jørgensen says:

Another tough Tuesday race night. However, the first route was relatively flat, and there should be an opportunity to perhaps save energy for the second race of the evening, which has a few more meters of altitude, and even collected in the last 5 km. Well, back to the first route. Saving energy for the second session would soon prove to be in vain. We quickly found a group with the usual suspects, after a while we were only 3 men at the front. Karel, Nelson and I. We got a big gap to the pursuers and you would think that would do something positive for the pace. But it remained relatively high. I was feeling really good and could feel the other two starting to hang a bit on the small climbs so I picked up the pace a bit and suddenly I really got a gap and I could see they were giving up chasing me. I matched the pace to those behind me and kept them well at a distance. Suddenly out of the blue, I could see that Mucker’s rider Tom-mww came smashing up through the classification with figures of about 8.5-11 w/kg😮😮 he came flying straight through Karel and Nelson behind me, and in a split second he was in front me too. Then he lay down and stopped pedalling, and I think he might have exploded, but then the devil got to him again and he thrashed away at 12 w/kg, then stopped again. He stayed like that for a while while lying a few hundred meters ahead. Suddenly he stopped completely and I think he dropped out of the race. Think maybe there was a trainer who had gone crazy with him. When he was gone I could just drive to the finish line alone as the winner of the first race of the evening. Actually a cool route, and great with so many registrations 👍👍

    • Andy_UP says:

Ah yes, the Tom moment. I was chilling at the back and I saw him apprear on the bottom of my nearby list doing 14w/kg. Then 15, 16 and 17. He flew past me on the uphill, that was special to see how fast that avatar went. I blinked twice and he was out of my nearby list. He sure must have had a problem.

What I wonder is, you top riders, why always start so fast and keep going so fast? Even yesterday with 2 routes and a hard finish in the end of race 2? Is that a sadomasochistical something? You maybe could have won the second race also.

      • Henrik Jørgensen says:

You know Andy_UP its quite simple 😉 allways push yourself hard, and the better you get. If everybody was racing like a grandma every race, nobody would get any better. I think on my behalf its a mindset think, I ALLWAYS want to win in all that I do, or at least try to😉 And no way I could have won the second race, J.Costa is to strong. Only beaten him once, and then he had fractured ribs😁

I enjoyed the race , had a good start and for a brief moment I thought ‘I may be able to just hang on to the big boys shirt tails , but that thought didnt last long ! and settled in a small group in 8th, 9th and 10th place , think someone dropped out in front so we all moved up one , there was 2 wearing same shirts so I thought they were part of a team and I was being tag teamed , one was working hard while one was in the draft . I thought to stand any chance , I mustn’t do anything as the other drafter would be mighty fresh and just steam pass at some point but the one in front backed off after we lost his mate so I took a turn and just seemed to pull away .1 wasn’t expecting that so the rest of the race was just trying to make sure the gap didnt get smaller while at the same time trying to catch bloke in front , but every time I thought there was. chance of catching Clem he seemed to clock me and put out more power to keep me in my place – ended being back and was going to get in the next race but the dogs had encountered their first hedgehog and they had decided the whole neighbourhood should be alerted to the danger !

  8. Kyle Goodram says:

After spending a week outdoors enjoying the lovely end-of-summer heatwave we’ve had in the UK, tonight marked my return to the Muckers Race after a few weeks. It was a double-header event, so I made the decision to start the first race at a comfortable, easy pace and save my energy for the second one.

As I began the race, just 5 minutes in, I encountered an unexpected issue – my bike seat started to move around. Despite this setback, I made the conscious choice to soldier on and focus on this race, putting any thoughts of the next one aside. I planned to fix my seat later in the week, well in time for the Thursday race.

During the race, I managed to catch up with fellow cyclists S. Ludford, Squalo_delle_Alpi, and robse3011. We rode together for a while, forming a small peloton. We took turns leading the group, supporting each other on the challenging hills, and engaging in friendly battles. This camaraderie continued right up to the last mile, when Denny44 made a breakaway move, and robse3011 joined him. I could see S. Ludford a few hundred meters behind me.

As the race concluded, I held the 18th position. I had hopes of more than 50 riders participating in this race, as it would earn me a mention in the Muckers Race report. Overall, it was a fantastic race with great teamwork among Muckers. I made a mental note of two things: to fix my broken seat and to take some time to relax my knee, which had been giving me a bit of a niggling pain, before the Thursday race.
