MUCKERS TUESDAY RACE DAY. 13/02/24

ROUVY Route Used: Bodmin Moor | Babble Ride Across Britain | 15.97 miles | 1745ft. climbing

2EARLY4ME RACE RESULT:

Was really happy to see an increase in numbers today for this race but what a shame only 2 were fully fledged Muckers! Friends requests sent to all the NEDs so hopefully they accept and they can get a top 3 mention next week. So “Kevin.Cervelo” (Why the name change mid month?? this will now mean split points for the Thursday championship as its done automatically, if you actually are CerveloKevin?) gets a superb time for the top mention, then long term Mucker “Sounthafro” gets the only other mention with a 2nd place , but still a great effort anyway so well deserved!

The Muckers finally make a start on the Babble Routes and for a Tuesday, this means a stand alone race or training session. its up to you. Looks to have been a close fight at the top with the first 5 riders all coming home in the 37 minute bracket! “Alieno79” gets first in under a second over “luca_ma” , “karel_sousek” gets a great bronze medal just in front of “Gil.Mad.io” in 4th and Top Muckers Worldwide Team Rider “Tuden” in 5th, but more importantly only 23 seconds away from the win!!

A sprint for 6th is won by “Wyverns” just over “KeithOldGit” , then Team Adam-Chris come over the line together with “hinsbergen” getting the nod for 8th in front of “adampel” in 9th. A great run to 10th from Mucker “tomlerieger”, “anatso” in 11th, “Stefan_Schmidt” in 12th, Mucker “nielsbrynnum” in 13th and “s.p.” in 14th. A rider we haven’t seen for a while “JoseCostaRonda” gets 15th, Our regular Down under rider “andy_emmo” 16th, “m-forby” in 17th and Top placed Farnham Road Club and Mucker “Gazinho” in a very good 18th. I am not sure if a lot of you know this but we have been very privileged to have Farnham Road Club use the Muckers Tuesday Race Night as part of there winter League so keep an eye out for the Farnham Teams in the table as they are all racing each other as well as the rest of us! We have another Mucker in 19th with “Groenen” then the final mention goes to “DRAFT-MAN” in a very well deserved 20th place!

104 riders finished this and if you adhere to our very simple friendship and HR data rules, then you are more than welcome to call yourself a Mucker!! Well done to all of you and thank you so much for joining our races.

Neil Rushby

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

I did “The Lecht” as 40′ warming up ride and was ready at the start. Goal of today was a top 20 and a mention. Found myself at around 25th place after the first Kms just a little bit behind Mucker Niels Brynum. Gave everything to got into his draft but he pushed 6W on the climbs so it was hard to close the gaps, I tried to stay at max 5W and not to overpacing. I felt I had good legs so we manages to bridge up to the group of 10-16 place with swiss Pfeffer and many others. After 3/4 I was alone with anatso when he attacked on the last steep climb with more than 6W. I hat to let him go but my tactics was to keep my 4.8W even in the flat section to came back in his draft. I guessed he is a lightwight rider who climbs good but had problems downhills. It worked out like planned: I came in his draft with a good speed and passed him just before the crest an was 15m before him in the descent. So he had no draft from me and was not able to close the gap to the finish anymore. My best race ever: 314W, IF 1.12, 4.31W/kg. Need a rest and recovery now. Pedal on, cheers Tom

Tuesday night this week for me meant Race as there is no need to preserve energy for Thursday due to calendar conflicts 😉 As my pre-race warm-up I rode on of the Hermes Challenge routes (Herakleion to Kato Gouves) aiming for a single all-out ~4min effort there to challenge the KOM Top10 that Alan Huette and NielsBrynnum had done earlier same day.. Got the 10th spot 😂

Anyways, back to this race, sprinted from the start line and was soon in 8th position, but as the peleton surges resided and started to settle I had dropped back FAST and 4min into this ride I found myself in 50th place…fine…carry on…it was supposed to be a HIIT-effort so I got what I bargained for! Had to push to stay connected in the draft and once I fell behind I had to push real hard on the up-transients to regain ground.
This is how most of the ride transpired and for the last half of the ride I was predominantly with Mike Hagen, DokPS, yayarecki, Ironsan and DonJulio. DokPS did leave is behind in the dust a little before us, so we were 6 who could be a contender for either position, between us and ultimately only 15s separated us across the line 🙂 I was soaked, ending up on 32nd place for this race, 34th overall after ToEarly/Late races were added to the scoreboard. Pretty happy with that!

No more races for me this week, Thursday I am not able and Sunday my 1 week vacation start, so next Muckers raee for me will be on the 27th – see you all then and thanks for the racing 😀
(I will be doing a volume effort Saturday morning, route indecided, if others would like to join I could set it up as a Race and ride as a group)

Thank you Neil “i gave it horns !” After an extremely hot day under the horses here in SA. I was very much looking forward to this ride. Mr Kevin took off with afterburners scorching the hedgerows and the front tyres of the closest riders. The short sharp hills on this course and the desperate attempt to catch (damage control) the front runners, forced greater w/kg numbers for me over the tops. Not the kind of course you relax on. I could see I’d have to try trick david_ochainxxx into believing I didn’t have enough for a sprint finish. Hahaha he didn’t fall for my tactics and hit greater levels of power than I could attain. I was left with a tough finish, some blowning lungs and a need to get some revenge. Hope to see them again after the friend requests are accepted Neil. I achieved a new 20min ftp number, so a nice reward for my efforts. Thank you Muckers ! Happy valentines y’all !!

This was the route for me. Not much flats, up and down. I like it a lot. And it was Tuesday, so not much worry about the final result, I want to attack.
But both Gil.Mad.io and Alieno79 are here and their style of racing is not my cup of tea. Actualy I do not understand, their are the two best, but their are not trying to beat themself from the start.
They just go hard every hill and then wait for the final part, no matter if they can take some advantage on each other. And if someone else attacks, they will bring it back. Boring… 🙂
However in the middle of race, Tuden went with Alieno79, so I give it a try, however before I recover a bit to help Tuden with the tempo, we were brought back by Gil.Mad.io. And again, no work from Alieno79 on the flats/downhills.
Then I tried to go again, as I thougth it was a last chance for me, but Alieno79 was behind. No help from him again, however I made a gap on the start of the downhills, thinking this is it.
But still get outsprinted with brutal 22 w/kg surge by the last meters. But 2nd is still good.
Thank you again, great race. Actualy my best avg watts for some time (300W), so it pushed me a lot.

    • Nagy Róbert says:

22W/kg with my weigth… would be 1800+Watts. I just wanted to check Philippo Ganna’s strava, but of course he also hides watts like almost all pros. But as far as I heard, cca 1800W is used to be the sprinters numbers, on a sprint on a pro race. Okay, it is a bit different to put out that number after a 200km race of a 30km race.
Anyway, there in the top5 you guys ara all quite close to the pros…

      • luca_ma says:

It was just few seconds, but still super power.
But do not underestimate the pros, they are much better then us, I was racing some time ago and wouldn’t have a chance now.

        • Neil Rushby says:

its possible it was a glitch or the start of a mechanical issue raising its ugly head so lets keep an eye on then next race as you guys up top are usually very close and competitive aren’t you. Well done on another top effort and the best avg watts ( it’s always very nice for us at the back to know you guys are still pushing at the front as well!!)

          • Chris H says:

Hey Neil. I’d like to give my 10cents worth if I may. I’ve started watching y’all’s main races on Tuesday and Thursday night. FOMO I guess. The late races are fast and furious indeed. Off with Netflix, the racing is that entertaining ! I’d like to vouch for the constant efforts of the front fellas. The numbers for a funrider like me to see are amazing. They almost never let up and their recovery numbers are my zone 5+ numbers. I find it Humbling, inspiring and devastating all in one show. They definitely push all the way to the end. 💪🏼

Thank you for the Farnham Road Club mention, including ‘JungleJane’ we had 10 riders finish tonight.

I was very privileged and extremely grateful to have a number of Muckers working as domestiques tonight. I would not normally use the Muckers against my Farnham Championship opponents but an upcoming holiday has now sealed my fate and it was an opportunity to have the additional fun of planning and executing a strategy against the two riders ahead of me in the Championship. Firstly, I am relieved my performance predictions of the opponents was accurate, as was the road position where we caught ‘Gunnera’, task one, tick. My teammates taking all the wind from my face were ‘Andy_UP’ and ‘Slyfly’, who had the tricky task of pacing ahead of my Avatar, while ahead, ‘Svard’ was being a nuisance and tracking target No.2, ‘HoppytheRocket’, who had both the power and weight to perform well on this profile. We even had spotters in North America providing position updates, NOTE, if anyone had suggested this would be happening to me 18months ago when I first purchased an indoor bike, I would certainly have said they were insane and go rest their head. Despite all this assistance I failed to deliver on task two, Hoppy was too strong and I was too weak. I’m about 15watts short of full fitness now but this will have helped enormously. Thanks Muckers, especially those actively engaged in pushing me tonight, and generally to the whole team for allowing me to indulge my moment as protected rider (even at the back of the peloton). We have done a few race plans like this over the last year or so and it adds a whole new dimension to the indoor experience. I look forward to my turn as domestique in their service.

What can I say, I’m starting to like the scheduled training sessions on Tuesday, but today, strange to say, I wasn’t able to join the scheduled team group. Today the goal was 3.0/3.2 w/kg with maximum effort 3.5. My average will be 2.88 almost correct but needs improvement. I was supposed to ride with Loudford, Andy, Sward, SlyFly and Mike, but we couldn’t all join together. I found Mike and then Sward, I thought I would find the others but in the end they were 10 places behind. Mike then went and Sward and I often cycled together even if at times there was indecision whether to go all out or resist the rules. I also found my favorite “Dutch” SillySilNL but then I held back on training and fell behind at the end. Next Tuesday I’d like to do some good team work. Hi everyone

Hello Guys! 🙂 Nowdays I absolutely haven’t been plannig a race with the muckers, because I decided to just make nice workouts eg the Lidl-Trek workout sounded quite nice to me. It means, each week 3 wo-s, and besides that a muckers race is not something that fits. But yestarday I saw the guys are all suffering with flu, as myself, so I decided to join.
The plan was a 2-2,5w/kg, buth rather towards 2. I was both tired and ill so….
What happened acually is, 1min before the start rouvy started to write errors, net loss, and nice things like that. But a few seconds afer start I managed to join the race, I saw the las guys back on the screen 🙂
Then I was pushing a 500-300 watts avg int the first minute, to get back into the band, and I felt that I’m in a quite good shape in spite of the odds… Previously I decided to go with Neil and Torben because I knew they are also “invalides” like me, but I didn’t know where they are, far ahead, of back. So I just tied to push a convenient pace with anyone around me. These guys were 1ElvisPresley1 for a little time, Mikey3R, and Phil_SCRT, they were really good companion, thanks again for the ride! But as my strava shows to keep up with them I had to put out a 166(!!!)BPM average. This is extreme for me. On one hand it means I’m not in very bad shape, but if I put there also the watts (210..), then the fact is that, that yes I am in a veeery bad shape still 😀 😀
But really, who cares, I’m not planning to be in any race-teams, just enjoy the rides in the summer 🙂 When there is no flu, no viruses, no covid, maybe even the russians will not be bombing us way uphills… (downhills I’m fast enough)
But summer is far ahead, anything else can still be there. 😛

You did well to have a Muckers race, here as you well know everyone is competitive but we are also a group united to train together as true friends.
Yesterday 2 train trainings were scheduled, Neil’s, Loudford’s. Then others were more towards the race. In this race I didn’t have as much fun as last Tuesday, I didn’t find my group but in the end I worked with Svard, working with the aim of training on Tuesday with people who know each other is very nice in my opinion. We’ll be waiting for you next Tuesday 💪

nice comments guys. It will take a while for the idea to reach everyone that we will have training options on Tuesdays but we will get there, but i will never try and stop those who want to race from racing! Farnham race on Tuesdays, those who can’t make the Thursday championship races, will race on Tuesdays and those with little to no self control will also race on Tuesdays!!

But the Muckers chat is really going great on Tuesdays about what trains we want to try and I will always update the facebook posts to let as many people know who will be doing what power and join them if they fancy it. It’ll come good, just takes time

Thanks for your words, Manuel! 🙂
This is why I’ll try to be there. Of course, sheer logic would say just do srtuctrured workouts, so to max out the foundation period… The real fun is out there for me in the real roads, hills, there I want to be in the best shape.
But these races really give me fun, especially when I see old friends there there, so i’m trying to make a good balance.
And yes, Neil, it is even better to get more people to the Tuesday’s races, who will take this as a zone 2 or 3 (ie low) training.

Muckers race, power pour like nowhere. Not feeling great during day, easy running warm up to assess if it is real or just in my head. When i returned, it was the latter. That was very positive, because race route was very bumpy and it was clear that repeated 1min ~6,5 wkg efforts will be needed in order to stay in the front. Alieno, Luca, Gilmad, Tuden, Andrew, Chris and me in leaders group.

Later on we droped Chris and Andrew. Tuden went into breakaway with Alieno, but it was early attack. Machine Gilmad got us back after few more painful moments. Luca then joined Alieno, i was hypnotizing Gilmad and we dropped Henrik. Finish uphill, i just closed my eyes and when i opened them, bronze medal goes to CZ. That was not intention, as Gilmad would deserve it more for his total effort today, i will give it back next time i promise. Excellent race, thank you all!

For February races I want easy, social rides to try to recover some of my missing strength and fitness. The 3 W trains have been really good! Some chatter before the race for a 3 – 3.2 W train, so that’s the plan. I ramp up to 3.2 W during the start countdown, then hold that for the first couple minutes. I’m in the 60s, looking for Mucker blue jerseys, but moving up. Passed Squalo_delle_Alpi, passed SillySilNL, but they can’t hold my wheel. Sorry! Working my way up into the 40s then the 30s, surging to 5 and 6 W/Kg on some of the snappers; it felt good! The day’s plan is out the window. Finally settled into a group with yayarecki, HalAir, IRONSAN73, and others, but left them behind on one of the last hills. Had Magnusph in my sights, looking at top 30, then ran out of gas a little bit. I didn’t want to blow everything up and end up back at square one, so I waited for HalAir who was not far behind. The last couple of kms when folk are ramping up for the finish surge, I let go and got passed by a few riders in the last 100 m. But that’s okay! Really pleased with the ride; best average power since early January. See you Thursday!

    • HalAir says:

Indeed, I recall you had a decent lead on me for a while (250-300m ahead)
With such punchy route profile I was “struggling” a little to maintain a consistent pace with the group as I suspect most of the others were considerably lighter than myself, causing me to coast past on the decents and on the ascent entries due to carrying higher momemtum into the climb. Thats what I capitalized on coming into that final uptick to the finish line 😉

  10. Mike Guthinger says:

Thanks again for organizing. The numbers are really picking up and some very fast competition.
