MUCKERS TUESDAY ZYCLE CHALLENGE RACE! 21/11/23

ROUVY Route Used: Nesselwang to Fussen | Germany | 9.5 miles | 406.82 ft climbing

105 Registered | 83 Starters | 77 Finishers | 6 DNF | 22 DNS

Its defitly been a while since we had such a short race route on a Muckers weekday race! 9.5 miles and only 406 ft, this route would have been a welcome change to some and i hope you made the most of it as these don’t coma around that often.. ( i did tag on a 3400ft hil climb after this, but this was the main race of the night!)

“alieno79” got the gold today with the top 5 smashed this route in under 20 minutes! “Stefan793” getting a really strong \silver tonight with “hinsbergen” claiming the bronze! “luca_ma” gets 4th and “karel_sousek” 5th. “adampel” in a little bit of no-mans land then pretty much a 7 way battle for 7th came across the line, won by Muckers Worldwide Team rider “neilsbrynnm” just in front of fellow Danish Mucker “Grochang” in 8th. “s.p.” gets 9th, “yayarecki” 10th, “lrollin” 11th and “hj2010” 12th.

Due to a few NEDs, we now end up with 5 Muckers Worldwide riders from 13th to 17th in the following order: “tomlerieger” then 9 seconds later “chorus”, 8 seconds later “batbuilder” then just 3 seconds later “MikeHagen” with “Groenen” 19 seconds later! Well done guy for getting in the top 20!!

18th comes “A2-596-DIEGO-D”, 19th “Stefan_Smit” and final mention tonight goes to Muckers Worldwide and Farnham Road Club rider “Gazinho” who from the times, just pipped 5 other riders to this spot!

Well done to everyone tonight, don’t forget if you’ve done a Muckers Race or 2, we would love it if you felt confident enough to rider under our team name! Just please make sure if you do that you are friends with me on Rouvy (search for Mucker1974) and you use a heart rate sensor. The last thing I want to do is remove a Mucker from the race results for being a NED! (Not Enough Data!)

Neil Rushby

co-founder of muckersworldwide.com and race organizer! Been into cycling since a kid and spent most of the time on BMX and mountain bikes. Took me longer than most to get the road cycling bug but I was bitten around 5 years ago when I finally got a fully fledged road bike that fitted and I let the flat handled road bike go...

you know the field is getting really strong when you do your best ftp and 20 min power records, average over 265watts for the first time in a long time and still only manage 35th place! Felt really good throughout but this is my type of route, if maybe 2 miles too long 😏

  2. Steven Ludford says:

Super fast start, out of the saddle and my nearby list is saying 20th, 30th, 40th. As people calm down I manage to catch a very fast group including Muckers Groenen, Gazinho and Squalo_delle_Alpi plus Farnham riders gunnera, Hoppytherocket and Gazinho (he’s in both teams like myself). Only 400ft climbing but I juuuuuust could not manage to stay with the group and had to let go. Knowing Farnham Road Club teammate Hoppytherocket (and opponent in our Winter League) was just behind, I sat up till he arrived so we could team up to the finish line and maintain race position, he was still strong and we needed each other to hold off a charging Mucker1974, we got to the sprint and I was done … Well done Hoppy.
    Race stats: Age : 56, Weight : 95kg, IF=1.093
    Averages : 157bpm, 305w, 3.18w/kg.

Well done for adding for race stats including your correct weight, one of the true riders out thereπŸ˜‰

My race stats 86.6kg as of this morning using 87kg for the race 330w average

Wow! That was fast and furious! I can’t believe I finished in the top 10😱. So happy with this result. Muckers races are very hard and competitive. Started around 50th and decided to just keep pushing steadily but hard and got to around 15th position where I joined another 5 riders with which we got to the finish. I can’t wait for Thursday race as I really like this route. Well done everyone! πŸ’ͺπŸ‘

I did a pre-ride of this route last Friday and learned some valuable lessons about my fitness. I developed a plan for todays race and did my best to stick to it. I started off averaging 300w over the first mile. I took a little breather on mile 2 (this was my nemesis in my pre-ride). I was able to control my breathing and maintain position, drafting a little bit. I was in 14th place!! Now came the hill. I felt energized and ready to attack the hill. Up I go at 300 watts! I was flying. But riders were starting to go past me. I was starting to get a bit frustrated even though I knew they were much stronger riders than me. I got to the top and the freight train of riders kept going by. I was trying to grab wheels, trying to push as hard as I could, trying anything to keep from falling back. I think I dropped back to 35th or so. There was a pack of Muckers that had gotten past as we were coming to the downhill. I went over the top all alone and tried the entire way down to catch that group. I was pedaling at 3wg trying to catch them. I never did. On the final 4 mile “flat” I had a little race with flyger, gunnera, GeorgeBookmiller and Guthinger-Mike. I think we all sort of wanted to draft but sort of wanted to pull away. It was a mess but it helped me push as hard as I could til the end. I managed 300w up the final sprint climb and then had to push to beat my goal. I crossed the line .06 seconds ahead of my goal!! Like Mucker, I also set a 5 min avg record and rode at my second highest average wattage for a ride. The only thing that I think would’ve helped would have been to burn a match to grab that group going down the hill. I’m really happy with how I rode today. These races are helping me get stronger.

  5. Mike Hagen says:

Really odd day. Warming up, I didn’t feel I had good legs, and actually said in the pre-race chat that I’d just find a group of Muckers to ride with. So my start plan was just to get up to speed, then look around, and ride with the Muckers I saw around me. They were tomlerierger, chorus, batbuilder, Groenen, Gazhinho — I’m doing okay! So rode with them and others, saving energy in the group, and about 20 minutes in I’m feeling nicely warmed up, not feeling bad at all, and thinking about asserting some surges — see what happens. Then we went around a corner and into one of the Rouvy AR chutes, and my screen froze. OMG! A lot of riders have been DNFing due to glitches; is it happening to me? So, semi-panic, trying to reset, restart; not working — then I realized the problem. Very embarrassing — the race was finished! 20 minutes is just too short for a race. Worse, with all the confusion I was a few seconds late starting race number 2, went far too hard the first few kms, but did okay — finished right where I would have anyway. In the end it was a fun day.

  6. Lamber Manuel says:

I like double challenges, because they skip the usual parameters and you can make a good impression if you are well trained. First race with an excellent start even though I already know that there will be a lot of bumps on the first hills. I got a good group, but I think they were looking for an asset they wouldn’t have to worry about. On the other hand, every time I saw a name not far away I tried to attack to close the gap. I’m glad I rode with Steven, even though we drifted apart, he’s a master of downhill riding. Nice team with osprey, FlyinSkyWalker, Kingcom, remko with here I lost the sprint, but happy to have often pulled the group. I wasn’t able to catch and hold Gazinho’s group… too bad. Thanks to everyone, but in my opinion there are still problems with the nearby avatars, it’s not clear how many there are and sometimes there’s no draw πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Sat this one out, recovering from the flu…Aiming to be back, in full business mode, on Sunday for the big climb!

  8. Kyle Goodram says:

This was a warmup race for me to see if I was fit enough for the main climbing race at 7.30pm. Cycled with “CerveloKevin” and “Mikeee”. I know “CerveloKevin” was also using this as a warm up too as he came 2nd in the second race. See you all Thursday for the Championship Race.

  9. Batbuilder says:

Very fast and furious, with no real hills to attack on. So it wasn’t my favourite sort of route. I did Ok though. I rode mostly with Mike Hagen and Groenen through the field and managed to nearly catch up with Battilator at the end. I did the Canberra route afterwards, as I was knackered from the sprint finish and didn’t fancy the climb.

  10. Wouter Groenen says:

A nice short race, so I thought. Short it was, but a though one. Produced a new ftp of 275 (back up to where I was this summer). In the end just over 1 mile too long for me. I started a little slow thinking I would go hard on the short climb and catch people there. That did work, but that left me low on gas in the last 1 or 2 minutes. I was in a nice litlle group with Mike and Batbuilder, but when Batbuilder started pushing 6 w/kg right before the last righthand turn I had to let go. Still managed to finish top 20, so right where I finished in the october championship.

Afterwards I rode the Rossfeld climb, another though one. It was easier in the sense that you could maintain a fixed pace, but still hard with long stretches of 12% + climbing.
