MUCKERS USA TRI Series Race Night. 18/07/23

Rouvy route used : Santa Cruz | Holy Cross – Cowel Beach – Ano Nuevo Park

Route 3 from the USA TRI series challenge. 24.89 miles long and 1128ft climbing.

38 Registered | 26 Finishers | 2 DNF | 10 DNS

Just the one race tonight again, but these USA Tri series routes are just perfect single race lengths. One the start line we had 4 of the strongest riders we have join us, so this was a 4 way fight for the podium.

Team Adam-Chris got a now very rare 1-2 with “hinsbergen” just getting the better of “adampel” by just under a second! an even closer gap to the ultra-strong American “nelsonsnyder” who must have been happy for the competition this week!?

4th, and who (if you read his strava post) sounds like he wasn’t at his best at all came “karel_sousek” who was only just under 2 seconds from the win. 56 minutes riding and the top 4 finish under 2 seconds between them all. Superb!

5th came “nielsbrynnum” who must be wondering how much faster does he actually have to be to get anywhere near this top pack!? Hes getting closer, and its about time he joined the Muckers Worldwide team to see if that possibly helps his next step! He’d also be our first Dane to join?? Next over the line is new regular rider “Berty-Bassett6” with the Brit just a few seconds behind 6th.

Finally, a Muckers Worldwide rider pops up in 7th with the ever trustful Canadian “MikeHagen” taking the position, then in 8th comes the strong Polish rider “yayarecki”, with the 2nd Muckers Worldwide rider “denny44” in 9th!

Last mention goes to the German rider “Loki1972” who got into the top 10 by a massive margin over 11th so desrves the mention due to a superb performance.

Don’t forget, we’d love to have any riders who do these Muckers races to be part of the team, just add us as your team name and that’s it. Also we do have a WhatsApp chat group open to all who feel they are now regular racers and fancy chatting with 20 other regular Muckers Worldwide racers.

well done everyone and see you at the next one!

cheers

still quite stiff from last weekends first ever real world muckers get together in Belgium, i decided to zone 4 the first split, then after than i zone 5’d but carried out full power efforts on the hills. really enjoyed it and even caught a few riders, even viki67 who i just got at the end!

That started like we all thought it would.  The strong group of Adam, Chris, Nelson, and Karel immediately off the front and doing their thing.  No hope for the rest of us to go with them.  Settled in with nielsbrynnum,  Berty-Bassett6, and yayarecki, and figured it would be us four all race.  There was a big group behind us including ghostkiller, kylofski, lrollin, denny44, and some others, hard to remember the names, or even see them all on the nearby list.  denny44 was the one who worried me.  I saw from the Chattanooga splits that he’s been well back of Niels, Tranberg, and Berty on Thursday, but had caught and beaten them.  Oh my, I didn’t want any of that.  He and his group were only 60 m back about 5 km in, so did a surge up that hill and got a bigger gap of a few hundred meters.  Then saw that yayarecki was not doing his share of the work in the pace line.  Didn’t know if he was tired or what, but I think you have to try, can’t just sit in too blatantly.  So when with about 8 km to go the other three of us suddenly had a 9 m gap on him going up a hill, I surged, attacked over the crest, and we were up 100 m and pulling away.  Maybe that was mean.  Maybe if he’s been doing his share we would have waited.  Maybe. The last 4 km was up and then down.  Perfect for me, I would push hard up the hill and, judging from earlier in the race and from previous races, I should be able to stay in front on the down slope to the finish.  But Berty did a brilliant thing: he went on the hill.  I was surprised and maybe Niels was too, but neither of us reacted right away.  Then Niels finally went, and I . . . tried.  Finally got going, doing 4.5/5 W/kg as planned, but I was behind those two instead of in front of them.  Did my damndest to get back on the downslope, almost did, but then they’re surging for the finish.  Once more to the well, but the well was dry.  So it goes.  Niels got me again and that was a great race by Berty. See you Thursday!

Legs still very sore from last weekend so started slow and looked with whom I could do this long route on a reasonable pace. Neil wanted to ride at a decent pace so I closed the gap and pulled for a while. He powered up the hills like the finish was on top. Hey Neil, that’s my thing! Kept working well together and we rolled up and left behind 6 riders + 2 dnf’s. That’s fun!

After the first successful Muckers Worldwide Tour of Flanders, I was feeling quite tired. I thought I should take it easy and started off at a nice and steady pace. I passed Muckers1974 and Andy_UP, who were also in zone 4 as they had participated in the Muckers Tour. Eventually, I caught up to SR-71, and together we continued riding until we reached Dok_PS and Ironlin. The four of us rode together until we reached a slight hill near the end, where Pok_PS surged ahead and I tried my best to keep up. I appreciate the effort, Muckers, but this was a bit too demanding after an amazing Muckers Worldwide Tour.

  5. Niels Brynnum says:

Sure, Neil 🤔 I wonder how to close the gap to the front pack but it’s difficult to lose 10 kg overnight 😅😅 I kept an average of 3.892 w/kg, which I was quite pleased with. From the beginning of the race, I made an effort to follow Adampel, who was chasing the 3 in front. I shortly, however realised that I needed fuel for the entire 40 km., so I waited a few seconds for the chasing group with Berty-B, MikeH and Yayarecki. Berty-B, MikeH and I worked quite well together, while Yayarecki enjoyed the nice draft😉from our hard work. I knew all 3 riders quite well, especially MikeH 👍 who I had the pleasure and some tuff races against in the past. Berty-B, I meet for first time last Thursday at the Muckers race, surely a powerful contender with a strong and solid engine. Yayarecki, yesterday I was in doubt of his tactic as I been overtaken by him in a sprint once in one of the Muckers races, a race which I refer to as the “Danish lesson by the Polish Rocket🙁” But as MikeH mentioned we dropped Yayarecki with 8 km to go. I felt quite good, and the legs responded well on the small climbs. I felt perhaps, at that point, that MikeH was getting close to his limit as he had to close some small gaps to Berty-B and me or…..was he pretenting 🤔. That was the reason why I didn´t reacted when Berty-B went on the hill, I wanted to check if MikeH could close the gap. I pushed hard to catch Berty-B and we drove full gas towards the finish line with MikeH trying to catch us. At a point MikeH, were only 9 mtr behind us, but when unfortunately, the elastic band broke and it became a sprint finish between Berty-B and me as it did in the Muckers race last Thursday. Berty-B accelerated with 800 mtr but I managed to stay in his wheel and with around 350 mtr left, I managed to pass him. Happy reaching the finish line in 5th position but 3 min+ to the leading group, as I mentioned in the beginning surely makes you wonder 🤔🤔 🤔🤔 Thanks to all for a great race and especially to Berty-B, MikeH and Yayarecki 👍

well that was tough – thanks – I think ! saw the same pattern forming with the big boys flying off the front never to be seen again and we were a group again Nielsbrynnum yayarechi mike and me with the ever present denny group behind . last race I thought we were doing well until Denny and another smashed through and shattered all my hopes and I limped through the line on my own . this time we remained a 4 , 2 of which I know beat me in a sprint and 1 elusive one , I didnt know if yayarechi was keeping his powder dry or not and leapt on the opportunity to distance ourselves when it came along making us a 3 , still thinking its pointless tagging along to be beaten in a sprint I tried to break the bunch in anyway I could just to whittle us down another and luckily it worked ! still got smashed in the home run but by only 1 instead of 2 so sort of took that as progress well done all and thanks for letting me in (Betty Bassett by the way )

  7. lee marshall says:

berty !!! berty Bassett ! this is how horrible rumours start !

  8. yayarecki says:

It was a very very tough race for me and frankly I shouldn’t have been in the group I was in from the beginning. I was huffing and puffing all the way until I got deservedly dropped. Yesterday it was a bad they in the office. I knew from the beginning I was going to get dropped sooner or later so I don’t really deserve the 8th place… Some days you feel amazing and you can do more than usually and some days you’re just s**t. So apologies to Mike Hagen, Nielsbrynnum and Berty-Bassett6 for not doing my bit but I was just hanging there with you🥵🥵🥵 You guys are definitely in different class than me💪

    • Niels Brynnum says:

No need to apologies Yayarecki, you are always welcome to draft in my wheel. Hope to see you in todays race

      • lee marshall says:

yea – no apologies needed – I was just scared I was gonna get flattened nearer to the line !

    • Neil Rushby says:

one day I’ll be up there and i will be doing exactly the same! its racing at the end of the day and you’ve gotta do what you gotta do for the best position you can get! it is really interesting to read how these little things get different reactions out of riders though. very interesting indeed.

  9. Denny44 says:

Like the other muckers my legs were also a bit tired from the weekend. Was in a group with ghostkiller, Loki and Irollin. At the beginning we worked well together but after a few km the speed I wanted to go was to fast for some riders. Soon ghostkiller and Irollin got dropped. Only Loki was left but he couldn’t take his turns. After all it was a 30km solo ride in the front and Loki stayed at my wheel. Couldn’t chase the group in front of us. Was happy with my performance and next race is on thursday.
