Before i get into the race report, I’ve been asked privately by a few riders/Muckers if they could help us with payments or subscriptions to help keep this thing going and I’ve messaged those guys back to say thank you but the last thing I am going to do is ask for money from anyone for what i basically love doing! . However, if you really feel you’d like to help us out, then buy some merchandise!! we make a little bit of profit off all the merchandise we design and sell on the site, so that would be amazing, and it will also help spread the word about this community we call “Muckers Worldwide” Also, as we can design and add anything to the site, if there’s actually anything you would like us to sell, with a Muckers twist, then drop us a comment and we will get something designed up and put on sale! Anyway, now that’s covered, on to this superb race!
Back to a nice over 20 miler race night tonight. Gotta’ love mixing them up, with last week having a few double race nights with short sprint races, and now this week some nice endurance type ones. This route called for some nice drafting on the slightly lumpy downhill first 10 miles, then power for a sharp climb, then lumpy down hill again , then a climb to the finish. What we in the UK call “proper good!”
The fast guys must have aimed for 60 minutes for this and the winner, the American rider whos not been on a race for a while, “nelsonsnyder” smashed this with a time just over 57 minutes to claim 1st place. He was chased down by the ever strong “karel_sousek” who was only 32 seconds behind, with “Simon-Hahnenbruch” taking third place, but also getting this race completed in under 60 minutes! Superb effort!
4th and 5th places for 2 riders who are use to the podium, just shows the quality tonight! “Tuden” had to settle for 4th and “hinsbergen” 5th.
then comes the train of riders that we all packed together at the 10 mile mark! The winner of this train, and quite understandable going off past performances was the strong rider “nielsbrynnum” who was closely followed by Top Places Muckers Worldwide rider “MikeHagen” in 7th, who just pipped “IRONCRIS73” by .4 of a second for 8th.
“Kylofski” claimed 9th place and he really seems to be getting his mojo back now with a few top 10 finishes on the bounce now, and the final mention goes to our very own pocket rocket “Andy_UP” with a strong ride to 10th. 2 Muckers Worldwide riders rounding out the top 10!
22 riders finished this race tonight! well done guys as this was a long route to have a race on!
thanks for reading and hopefully see you on another Muckers Race soon!
cheers everyone.

This is my first and only race this week. On Thursday, we are setting off for our Tour of Flanders. Thanks for the invite, “Andy_UP”. I could see that this route wasn’t a short race and was a little bumpy, so I thought, “Give it your best, Kyle.” I set off and guess what? I was riding with “Rens” again. We caught up to a group of riders which included “Mucker1974,” “Jeff65,” “rouvy1bryon,” and a few others.
I remember thinking to myself, “I’m 10 miles in and I’m in 6th place,” as the group had now caught the group in front, which included some big names like “MikeHagen,” “Andy_UP,” and “Tom-MWW.” We all kept swapping places. One minute, I was in 6th, next I was in 14th. That’s how big this group was.
As we started the biggest climb of the race, this large group broke up. “MikeHagen,” “Andy_UP,” and “tranberg” shot off like a rocket. I slowly pulled away from the others. So there I was, climbing alone for the entire climb. I eventually caught up to “yayarecki” and “tranberg.” “Tranberg” stayed on my wheel for what I thought was a lifetime. I wasn’t going to shake him. It wasn’t until the last big-ish climb that he dropped off, doing a respectable 3.6 W/KG, while I was pushing 4.1W/KG.
After I created a gap, I could see him slowing down. Next on the radar was “Andy_UP.” I managed to jump on his wheel, and he stayed with me until the last of the climbs, where I pushed 5.1W/KG. This was enough to break “Andy_UP,” who by then was tired, and he too dropped off the pace. I powered on to the finish.
9th place. I’m happy with that. I get a mention in the race report. This is my third race on the trot in the Top 10. Thanks, Muckers, for a great race.
it was a mad large group wasn’t it. I actually wonder if it was due to this largeness that i got the glitch when behind certain riders?? strong race Mucker, And see you Thursday for our Road trip to Belgium!!
Yeah, sorry about sticking to your wheel. I tried to take the front a few times, but I was completely done. And it did not seem like you took advantage of it, you just seemed to increase your w/kg when I paced.
I did not enter the big hill in the middle with the highest pace, so the front with “MikeHagen” and others got a good gap, but then decided to close it before the top, which I managed with some very high w/kg, only to get dropped on the downhill with no power left in the legs to close it. Also, I also had a glitch which meant several riders disappeared, and also partially why I lost the draft on the downhill. First time this happened to me and hopefully last. But nice race until I blew up! 😀
15th tonight but at 10 miles in, it could have been anywhere up to 6th! massive pack riding together just before the first long climb, which eventually spread us all out! weirdly, I actually lost 2 avatars from my screen while doing the climb, and it had to be the 2 riders i caught up to! so not only did i get no draft off them as i caught them, but i also moved out to overtake them even though they weren’t there. very strange! Anyway, got to the top of the climb which i somehow dropped jeff on, i then found myself catching rens and bryon, but i put everything into bridging the gap to them, that the next climb, i was left for dead again! Came over the line and really enjoyed that race. felt good.
Really enjoyed that ride, so much fun riding in a large group, with Muckers Worldwide finest, felt pretty comfortable for the first 10miles, but knew as we entered the first climb, I would get dropped by Kyle, Andy and Co. Tried to keep up with Neil, but had to let him go, certainly was a hard fought 17th place. Thank you for putting these races on, and good luck on the Belgium cobbles at the wk end.
Hi Jeff, i know you’re not full back to full fitness so you’ll be back in front of me in now time! it was superb and great to meet these avatars in real life over the weekend!
The very strong group of Nelson, Karel, Tuden, Chris, and Simon pulled away almost shockingly quickly, I thought. But I was with Niels, Tranberg, yayarecki, and (someone new to me) IronCris73, and I was happy. We were just cruising along about 12 km in when I saw the group behind was closing. Was going to do a push, but then realized that they were mostly Muckers: Andy_UP, Rens, Kyle, Jeff65,Tom-MWW, and (yes!) Neil. So sit up, no more pulling, let them catch up. It’ll be fun! And it was for a few kms, but then we got to the Jay Hill climb, and it’s sorry friends, but everyone for himself. I felt strong on the hills today. I wish I knew why so I could do it everyday. Got a good start on Jay Hill then Andy went _UP like a rocket and I let him set the pace (I’m getting smarter that way). At the top it was me, Andy, Niels, and IronCris, and we cruised again for a bit. On the climb to Wilmington we caught Chris who’d gotten dropped from the lead group. Wait, what? Chris? He had a story to tell. Anyway, some easy cruising back from Wilmington, serious effort on the Hazelton climb, cruising on the downhill, then some survival tactics the last two km on the bumpy uphill to the finish. Chris was the elephant in the room there, just knew he was going to do a 15 W/kg sprint to win. Tried to keep track of Niels and IronCris but kinda lost them. Needed the results to see that Niels got 3 seconds on me (what!) but at least I got IronCris by a wheel. That was a fun race.
Well guys what can I say, after a week of vacation with no training, and a 350 km trip back from Genoa to home, I couldn’t miss the Muckers challenge even if nice tough 40 k.
Ready to go and on the 10 ” countdown I lose my connection to the screen.
Already nervous, I’m last, I pick up and shoot off 15 km at full speed, catch a glimpse of Neil’s group…. Too bad I’m out of gas. I try to play with Jeff, I think I’m going to stay close to him in the last 4 k but eventually I realize I have to settle for 18th tonight. Congratulations to all.
Went into tonight’s race with a bad feeling about my legs today. They have felt heavy all day. And when I saw the start list, I could see that even with decent legs it would be a challenge just to reach the top 3. Riders like Nelson Snider, Karel Šousek, Simon H, and Hinsbergen are really strong riders. It was the 5 of us who quickly formed a front group. My plan was then to try to hang on until the climb that came about halfway along the route. But it didn’t turn out that way. So many watts were pounded into the pedals that it was only possible to take very short leads, and at times it was impossible for me. Before the climb, Nelson and Karel got a gap down to the rest of us, and I was not the man in the physical condition to have to close it. Since Simon and Hinsbergen didn’t seem to want to either, I thought it was fine enough to let them sail away. And that we might be able to catch them again on the climb. But then came the detail of the day🫣😆As if shot out of a cannon, Hinsbergen rocketed past Simon and I🤯 you’d think the boy was sprinting towards the finish line, because it went smoothly with 10-12 w/kg and he just kept going! ! Simon didn’t react, and I certainly shouldn’t have anything to do with such a psychopathic move.😆 So Simon and I continued as unchanged (at Simon’s pace). Before the climb, I noticed that Hinsbergen had dropped to about 2.5w/kg, and I thought he just needed to get some air before the climb. When we had almost caught him again, I thought that perhaps he had given up on catching the others, and wanted to try his luck with us again. When we made contact he fell behind, without making the attempt to follow us. Then it dawned on me that he had lactic acid spurting out of both ears and had just committed Harakiri with that effort. Good news for me as I just had to follow Simon as long as I could and concentrate on not using too much effort. The pursuers should be about a kilometer down after the climb, so it should be a manageable task. I let go of Simon’s wheel on the climb and rode my own race all the way to the finish line. However, I was never quite sure of my lead, as the group behind me now consisted of strong riders like Niels Brynnum, Mike Hagen, and of course the fallen Chris Hinsbergen. They would quickly eat away at my lead on the flats and on the descents as I really tried to manage what little energy I had left. But it went well and I was able to roll to the finish in fourth place, which I am extremely satisfied with in this sharp field. Cool route and good fun and training. a little lesson for one person there was also room for 😁😁👍 but hats off to the attempt Chris👍👌💪
Was hoping for a 💪 Sepp Kuss 💪 helping wheel 😜
Great race ! However, I felt some fatigue in the legs just by reviewing the participants for the race 😀Shortly after the start, I realized that I needed to settle in the chasing group after the 5 riders in front. We gather quite a big group IronChris (new to me, strong rider 💪), Kylofski, Andy_UP, the strong fellow Dane Tranberg, MikeHagen, Yayarecki, Rens_Piccavet, Munker1974…sorry if I forgotten anyone. I had some technical problems, while we drove in the big group as I could not see Andy_up and MikeH ´s avatar. Anyway, I planned to accelerate on the last long climb, before reaching the climb, we caught up with Hinsbergen. At the top the climb Hinsbergen and I had a little gap to MikeH and IronChris, however they managed to close it quite quickly as Hinsbergen didn´t had any interest in pulling 😜So it came down to a sprint finish among the 4 of us. MikeH started the sprint with about 400 mtr to go, I passed him with Hinsbergen on my wheel. I gave everything towards the finish line, but Hinsbergen´sprint finish was too strong 💪 for me.
Paid the price for riding hard outdoors on Monday but I just couldn’t say no to it as the weather was too nice not to do so. Despite of tired legs and getting dropped I still managed to improve my previous best time so all in all happy with my race. Good effort everyone.
It’s been a while since I could make a Muckers Race. I work on Thursdays when those races are on, and I have 2 three year olds on Tuesdays. They make trying to get a race in, interesting to say the least. Here’s how this one went…
I was all prepped for this one, took my normal morning ride off, meal and drink prepped. Everything felt like it was going to be a good race. The race started and for the first half mile or so everything felt good, I was in that big middle group just noodling along. I thought “hey, this will be good if I can stay in this mix and save some power drafting”. And then everyone shot like a rocket, next thing you know I’m cranking trying to get back in the draft but I was worried that I’d blow up and not have energy for the entire race so I backed off and fell into my normal “back of the mid-pack” range. I was the tail end of a 14 person bubble on Rouvy for the longest time but not close enough to anyone to mount a challenge. Then I saw Manuel coming up behind me and he was coming fast. I tried to jump on his wheel but he motored past and I watched him go ahead and give Jeff a challenge. Somewhere in here, my three year olds decided they were done napping and had broken out of their room and were causing trouble. I had to jump off the bike and get them separated and back under control. I was upset with them but took it out on my bike and unfortunately for Manuel and Jeff, they got the results. I hammered the pedals and caught them both on a climb. Manuel gave a burst but I think his legs were done at that point. Jeff gave me a challenge, we went back and forth a few times. But then I was done playing and decided to throw everything I had left at the bike. Those final hills I pushed 4-600 watts trying to let Jeff know I wasn’t going to let him back by. That was one of my better efforts in a long time both for endurance and power.
I’m looking forward to the next series as all the races are on Tuesdays. Maybe I can complete a full series. Thanks Mucker for putting these on.
Great report on the race John, enjoyed our little battle, well done, I was pretty shattered at the end, definitely couldn’t hold your wheel, there’s always a next time !
Nice to see you back Mucker and thanks for the report. at least we know now if you disappear or stop as you’re not the only one on here balancing trying to race while the children sleep! might set up a challenge/race for you all on a 100 mile route, last the day and you just jump on and doo as much of it as you can in between naps and feeds! 😂
Like most of us who race, I looked at the start list to inform my strategy for this event. It was very clear that if all the registered riders show it would be a battle for the top 5 places. Knowing Simon and Henrik have ridiculous sustained power reserves and Chris has a nearly untouchable finish sprint, I was going to have to get away early and hope a break right off the start would not be taken seriously and might go unchallenged. Unfortunately, getting away solo at the start would then require a TT effort for almost an hour with four strong athletes chasing. Probably not my most brilliant race tactic but it was all I could formulate in the minutes before the start timer got to “GO!”, that allowed me any chance of a podium finish
2 minutes in and a 30m gap – feeling gassed and already out of breath – Hmmm….I was strongly questioning my plan!
I settled in at ~ 4.5w/kg, then I noticed Karel pushing up to 6w/kg to bridge the gap. The rest of the chase group didn’t respond so I let up on the gas a little in the hopes that we could work together and put some distance to the chase group who was currently content with, well – chasing. Within a few seconds Karel was on my wheel and off we went. Karel and I were working well together thru the first half of the route slowly increasing our small gap to 300m when Chris started to make a move at about 2k before the biggest climb on the route.
Again, the chase group didn’t respond when a rider broke away???
Solo effort now, Chris was sustaining 8w/kg and quickly closing the gap. Knowing I couldn’t hold off that type of attack, I still increased my pace by 1w/kg to extend Chris’s push to catch us as much as possible and still leave some of my reserves for the pending hill that I figured we would reach just about the time Chris caught us. Sure enough, Chris caught on just as we reached the base of the hill. Unfortunately, it appeared that Chris gave too much to bridge the gap because he slipped off the back almost as fast as he caught on.
With Chris unable to hold on, it was still just Karel and I climbing together at ~5w. I was trying to hold that pace on the climb as long as possible as that was where I assumed Simon and Henrik would launch their attack. Watching the nearby rider list, I saw Chris get passed by the chase group and then Henrik slid off the back shortly after the climb started, so now it was just Simon chasing solo.
When we were able to crest the hill with Simon still chasing, for the first time it seemed plausible that we may be able to hold the start line break all the way to the finish line.
My legs were very unhappy with me at this point which required alternating sitting and standing to attempt to hold power anything over 4w/kg. Not sure if it was strategy or if Karel was struggling like I was but he was no longer helping, leaving me in front while he drafted. I tested with some soft attacks which he responded to with just enough effort to stay on my wheel but wouldn’t come around. After 3 or 4 of these tests I determined I was better off on my own rather than pull my competitor along only to get sprinted at the finish.
Using the Rouvy algorithm to my advantage, my planned break would need to occur on a downhill because I’m about 10kg heavier than Karel and “gravity” should provide some assistance. Unfortunate there were only rollers left on the back half of the route so it took a few attempts to finally get a gap on Karel.
The top 4 places were all riding solo now, so it was just a TT effort holding pace to the finish line. Without any major attacks left, the results were set.
Great event!
Huge thanks to Neil for making these events happen
Fascinating race report, Nelson. I thought I was a deep thinker, but nope.
saw this on Facebook and had everything crossed you’d share it on here!! thank you.
Am I right in thinking that Thurs race was a re-run of Tuesdays ?
I guess not ! It says Chattanooga in strava but can’t see it mentioned here ! And I raced my little heart out 😁
hi Lee, sorry no race report for Thursday the 13th, which was the Chattanooga” route. I was on my way to Belgium for a weekend of riding with some fellow Muckers on the hills of Flanders. Only got back today and i know from the past that if i do the race report even a day late, people aren’t as interested in it anymore. So 4 days late is a no-no. ( p.s, going forward, it’d be great if you added your Rouvy name somewhere to your name/comment just to help everyone know who you are straight away when they read your comment. cheers buddy. )
can you tell I am a techy computer whizz kid 🙂 will do from now on , I will be doing more of your races if that’s ok , especially if the weather gets worse
Betty-bassett6 is the rouvy name , I don’t know why the 6 appeared , must have been a fat thumb hitting the 6 same time as the T
have enjoyed the few races I have done in the group , a good turn out especially for the time of year and I do enjoy the banter afterwards . I do suffer big time with the sarcasm bug and sometimes forget to censor myself when writing so be sure I mean no offence to anyone I just like to get one in before all the incoming remarks ! there is a small group of us who have raced together on line for many years and I am trying to get them over to here , they don’t do much inside this time of year but as the winter approaches I am sure they will give it a go . you will like some of them , well , one of them , – maybe
lol , hi Lee. thanks and i hope they pop along at some point. really happy with the numbers as well for this time of year and can’t wait to see what happens in the winter! Might have to do top 20 mentions if we get decent numbers. Im very sarcastic but it doesn’t always translate well on a global platform so i am constantly censoring my comments and reports!
