MUCKERS USA TRI Series Race Night. 20/07/23

Rouvy Route Used : Florida | Haines City – Lake Pierce | 24.73 miles | 524.93 ft climbing

Route 4 from the USA TRI Series challenge.

32 Registered | 22 finishers | 5 DNF | 5 DNS

Last of these 24 mile USA Tri races tonight and its been a decent challenge all in. all the same length and not too much change in climbing, although tonight’s was the flattest we’ve had out of the 4. we only had 13 registerd for it with 7 hours to go as well so i was thinking it might be a low turn out tonight ( Might get a top 10!! 😏) but just before I entered it looked like that number had grown with quite a few late entrants.

“nelsonsnyder” decided to go all out tonight a claimed gold by a massive 1 minute and 26 seconds over “Karel_sousek” who himself just pipped “Simon_Hahnenbruch” who came over the line in just over 1 second behind in 3rd.

Maybe this is down to the flatness of the course, or the others weren’t at full-full chat, but the rest of the field wasn’t too far behind Simon! the ‘very serious about getting his name right’: “Berty-Bassett6” claimed 4th, tonight’s top Muckers Worldwide rider “denny44” came 5th, 6th went to French rider “lenb” and 7th to our very own “MikeHagen”. I’ve grouped these guys together as they all finished within 2 minutes of 1st place! under 2 minutes behind Nelson! cracking result!

8th was claimed by “nielsbrynnum” who would have been closer to the front if he’d updated his team name (😁😁😆🙄😏) then a welcome return, (it does feel like its been ages since you’ve raced with us? or am i wrong??) to “Chak” who just out sprinted our final mention rider “Alf1963” who came home 10th, and only 4 minutes and 46 seconds behind 1st.

really intersting race and results for some of you tonight. well done for completing it and i hope the races helpedyoucomplete the challenge as well.

cheers everyone and see you at the next one.

ok Neil, Zone 4 this! Zone4!!! 3rd night on the trot for me so needed a recovery ride. set off and not only am i in around 13/14th place, but riding with Simon-H! forget the zone 4, let see if i can stay with him at all… got to the first split and we’d caught some others up and was feeling strong, got to the 2nd split, about 8 miles in, and i was done!!😂🤣. so backed off and even though i did, i was still able to keep just over 200watts and quite comfortably. yayarecki came past and i though, he will help me…. nope! he went even harder once past me so i did try to stay with him but it was harder than the first efforts! well done sir! so next to pass me was 2 muckers and i hung onto them for as long as i could but once i saw i had no threat from behind, i just backed right off let them go and recovered home. need some proper rest now.

My plan tonight was zone 4. So, as I warmed up, I rode nearly 8 miles of the Flanderian Hills. I can’t believe I recognized the entire route. Anyway, back to the race. We started off steady and rode with Paulo_Tann and derrydingle. We managed to catch Jeff65 and Plamenak, making us a group of five. We worked together for at least 15 miles. Then, Paulo_Tann dropped off, leaving us with four riders.

I noticed that Mucker1974 was getting tired, and we were closing in on him. Soon, derrydingle also dropped off, leaving us as a group of three. But when we reached Mucker1974, we could see that he needed help for the last 5 miles. So, Jeff65 and I decided to let Plamenak go and stayed with Mucker1974.

At the very last hill, Mucker1974 put in an awesome 4.5w/kg effort, but that broke him, and he dropped off completely. Jeff65 and I pushed for the finish, utilizing great teamwork. Kudos to Jeff65 for helping a fellow Mucker. See you all next week!

At last a flat ride without any hills, this should be a breeze, but found it pretty tough with no downhills to get a rest.Definitely a race of two halves for me,rode in a group of 4, and felt pretty comfortable, with myself and Kyle sharing the work, second half struggled to stay on Kyles wheel, great fun riding with Mucker 1974 also, decided not to sprint for the line, after my team mate had done most of the work! Cheers for organising these races, really have improved my fitness

Started ‘out of the saddle’ to get over the first two short lumps tonight and found myself in a nice little group. I wasn’t feeling great and noticed I was struggling to hold on to the wheels using other riders to bridge any gaps that appeared. Eventually dropped I was picked up by ‘boogybill70’ who pulled for miles, I managed to pull for about one minute but it was a token gesture. We (he) managed to get back to ‘Chak’,
‘Alf1963’ and ‘lrollin’ then our fortunes changed, he rode out the front and I fell out the back and had to solo to the end trying to keep a gap ahead of ‘yayarecki’. Not sure what happened to ‘boogybill70’ as a certain top 10 finish glitched and disappeared very close to the end as I noticed my 13th position change to 12th – a shame, he would have deserved a mention tonight.

Brutal start for me.  I was well over 300 watts NP three minutes in, but those first few ups put me behind the lead group.  I despaired that I could get in with them.  But Nelson had started late, happily for me, and I got on his wheel as he went by and he pulled me up to the group.  I owe you, Nelson!  Nelson cruised off the front, taking Karel with him (for a while), so it was a group of five (nielsbrynnum, berty-bassett6, denny44, lenb, and me) working well together, I thought.  About halfway through, we could see Simon_Hahnenbruch (clearly also a late starter) about 300 m back but closing fast, and Karel ahead but waiting (Nelson going too hard, Karel?).  We came together and were a group of seven for a bit until Niels dropped back.  With maybe four km to go, visions of finishing with Super Simon and Karel too were dashed when those two surged.  berty-bassett6 and denny44 were strong enough to go with them for a bit, leaving me and lenb behind,  Then lenb was too strong for me the last few hundred metres, and we finished in that order.  My HR was redlined at maximum for 95% of the race; I am totally wrecked.

  6. Nelson Snyder says:

Small attendance and no plan for today’s event, I took a slow start to the race which had me at the back of the pack working my way thru the field of riders. I came upon Simon chilling around 3.5w/kg. I rode with him for a bit but when he let up even more I decide to carry on. Simon raced a UCI event over the weekend but should have been recovered from that effort by now so he was clearly on a “rest day race” pace today

Eventually, I found myself with the lead group of around 6 riders. Karel was at point so I went up to give him a break. He sat in for a few minutes and we opened up a small gap before Karel also let up, eventually sliding all the way back to Simon who hadn’t reached the lead group yet.

Now solo, I decided to just put my head down and try to maintain a solid pace for the remainder of the route.

Still monitoring the nearby riders list I could see quite a few people applying some big watts in the chase group, which made it clear to me that if the chase group were organized I would have been easily caught.
    Next time!

well that was different ! don’t usually do flat courses and with the sun shining outside I nearly didnt tonight . flat courses have a set pattern for me , I try to keep up till I pop then cross the line just in time for the last sandwich and a cold cup of tea !I managed to get in a group working well and tried to do a turn or 2 , I could see Simon coming up like a scene from jaws and just thought , what the hell – clamp onto his wheel till you have nothing left and see what happens – I now know what happens ! I lost the wheel and denny put in a big effort to get back and I managed to stay with him , then leap frog back onto Simon after going into cardiac territory- it worked ! I was back on Simon ! but I had burnt all matches , set fire to the box and burnt my fingers ! I was instantly dropped and cooked and left hurting just trying my best to find something to get me to the line , I know I shouldn’t have been where I was and on any other day I would have been moaning and saying I should have gone outside – but I will take it and when my heart stops trying to escape from my chest I might even have a little smile , good race , really enjoying it thanks

    • Denny44 says:

hi berty. great race. congratulations. your avator disappered at the end and there was no draft for me. but i saw your name at the rider list on the left. Did you had draft from me? Denny44

      • lee marshall says:

yes mate – could see you and feel the benefit ! would explain a lot as the mammoth task of clawing back to Simon wouldn’t have been possible without you , I just thought you had gone deep into the red – much as I had about 30 seconds later !

  8. Denny44 says:

Big watts and speed at the beginning. it took me 2,5 km to get into the front group. was surprised that the top riders where behind us but Nelson and karel soon joined us. Later karel dropped back voluntary to ride with simon and chasing us. We were a group of five and taking our turns. Simon and karel were steadily closing the gap and we all know they will overtake us at some point and will have their own race. after half way of the race Simon was in front of our group. Was hard for me to stay at his wheel. tried to survive. 5km before the finish karel and simon were gone. with the last amount of energy left in my legs i tried to get back to the wheel of simon. mike and lenb got dropped. Berty was apparantly with me but his avator was not on the road. 🙁 Had no draft of him and needed this little support to get into draft of simon. didn’t make it and suffered to maintain the speed. i was totally exhausted. was a great race with a lot of pains. was in the red from the beginning til the end.
