Rouvy’s New Corner Braking: A Game Changer!

Hey Muckers and Rouvy riders!

Just hopped off the Mucker Tuesday Race, and while the legs are still burning, I couldn’t wait to try out Rouvy’s new corner braking feature! Since it’s not active in races yet, I jumped into a “Just Ride” session on the Winter Wonderland Challenge. For those unfamiliar, it’s a 20-mile route with a decent 700ft of climbing, starting with a fun downhill and a kicker of a climb midway through. Naturally, I went full aero, rocking the Rouvy TT bike and disc wheels. Let’s just say I was flying!

Now, about this braking system… Within the first mile, I was cruising at 44 mph when suddenly, whoosh! The system kicked in, smoothly slowing me down to 29 mph for an upcoming bend. It felt incredibly natural, like I was actually approaching a corner and instinctively easing off the pedals. A little further on, I hit another braking section, this time scrubbing speed from 42 mph to 35 mph. What’s impressive is how the system seems to “know” how much to brake based on your speed and the severity of the turn. Genius!

Throughout the rest of the ride, the braking sections were strategically placed, mostly when turning right (interesting observation, right?). It wasn’t overbearing or intrusive; it just felt…right. This feature adds a whole new layer of realism to Rouvy. You can’t just blindly bomb it down hills anymore.

Honestly, I’m blown away by how much this enhances the Rouvy experience. It’s a game changer! Kudos to the Rouvy team for this brilliant update.

    glad you love it mucker. I’ll sit on the fence for now. i’ve rode with it twice and i don’t know if its a wattbike thing but it’s a real struggle to get the bike to accelerate out of the bend. its like i have the rubbish starting issue i have every race start, happening to me out of every corner. i worry how it will be when it comes out in a race event.

    Also i’d have thought all the route records would have been wiped as the virtual partners you select, all scream past you on the downhills now. wonder if ROUVY are waiting until all types of events use the braking system before they do that as you’d still get the same effect if you selected a VP that had set there time in a race situation. As a training tool, i suppose its good as you are trying harder now on the downhills but i’m just not feeling it at the moment, but that could be just about my bike rather than the actual feature.

    Thanks for the review, Kyle. I have to say I like the braking as well. It is certainly more real. If braking is implemented for racing before the end of the year, I’m not sure I’d looking forward to Bad Homburg on the 29th: 100 laps with two (maybe four) corners with braking and sprinting to get back up to speed? That is what a criterium is about, but it’ll hurt! I’ve checked out braking twice; on a downhill course, and on a flat course with corners and roundabouts. It’s pretty intuitive. VPs just blow away when you brake now, but ghosts stick with you. I think I’ve found that if you time it right, you can get the jump on ghosts coming out of a corner. Hopefully that will work with real riders too. Overall, I think the more tactically minded and skilled riders will benefit the most from braking.

    I found it to be very good too. Also the 72 kph limit has gone as I hit 85 kph on the winter route so hopefully no more downhill finishes already decided at the top of the hill when it goes live for races.
