MUCKERS 2026 JULY CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 4.

ROUTE AND RACE DETAILS:

Alsace Wine Route | France | 22.37 miles | 1,585 ft. elevation

ROUVY SAY: Start in Colmar and ride into the heart of the Alsace Wine Route. Pass through picturesque villages including Ingersheim, Kaysersberg, Hunawihr and Bennwihr, surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills beneath the Vosges Mountains. A scenic loop blending historic charm, quiet roads and classic Alsatian landscapes.

WE SAY: Last race for this month! looks like you will benefit from the draft if you can get into a decent group, especially for the long run to the first climb. The hitters will be looking for a sub 60 time, the rest of us will just be looking to do as well as we can and see where the final points lay.

looks like the main race had some competition from the GURE group this week, who also had a race starting at 18:30 so can i just state again our gratitude to you all for sticking with us, especially when our world championship races aren’t always the easiest routes! We totally understand there’s a lot of choice out there at the moment so to have 57 of the 97 registered riders turn up for the main race, with a total of 75 riders being verified from the whole event, is just great to see, especially in summer.

Right, lets see how this month has ended shall we.

WHATS NEXT TO COME:

Remember you are more than welcome to come and race with us on any of our races even if the championships are of no interest to you. The more the merrier!! These championships are just here as extra motivation and fun ways to train.

Sunday Hill Climb (aka the Sunday hill climb championship)

Col du Tourmalet from Sainte-Marie-de-Campan | France | 10.52 miles | 4,160 ft. elevation

From the Pyrenean Crown challenge, it’s also a classic in its own right so hopefully see you on there. Only the one climb this week so come along and get 4160 points for crossing the line in however long it takes! or get 0 if you quit anywhere on the route before the line……

Search “Muckers Sunday” in the event search function on ROUVY to find all the scheduled climbs we have created so far. All start times included in the championship.

Tuesday Race Night (aka the w/kg training championship)

Sossusvlei park/ Namibia | 27.96 miles | 141 ft. elevation

The 2.8w/kg night so why such a long route i hear you ask??? Well, we just couldn’t fit it in anywhere else before the challenge ended and it looks like such a fun route! So come along, race it, enjoy it and let the w/kg result land where it lands……

Search “Muckers Tuesday” in the event search function on ROUVY to find all the scheduled races we have created so far at the 6 different start times. All start times included in the championship

P.S we’ve had to squeeze another challenge route in as a warm up so we use the 11 miles long: Bagnara C. to Cannitello over Scilla – Calabria route which has an easy 531ft of elevation and starts at 18:25.

Thursday Race Night: Special Event

Normally we set up a HIIT night on any 5th Thursday of any given month, but i was struggling to get a set of routes together that we’d maybe not done before or i could use as a theme like we did last time where every other race was the bad homburg loop, which was a personal favorite of mine but didn’t want to just do the same again. So As i wasn’t feeling it, I’d had this idea on the back burner for a while to race a few motor racing circuits as a mini event, so we will pause our usual rapid HIIT night and give this a go. 5 short races, but longer than our usual 1-2 minute sprints we’ve used previously. The schedule is as follows (sorry, only 1 set of races at our main race start time for this event)

18:30: Race 1: Laguna Seca Raceway | California | 2.22 miles | 230 ft. elevation

18:40: Race 2: GPBRASIL CVB│AUTÓDROMO INTERNACIONAL│GOIÂNIA/GO | 2.35 miles | 102 ft. elevation

18:50: Race 3: VIRTUAL SHIMANO SUZUKA ROAD | 3.6 miles | 236 ft. elevation

19:05: Race 4: Brno Circuit | 3.6 miles | 236 ft. elevation

19:20: Circuit of the Americas | Austin – Texas | USA | 3.37 miles | 233 ft. elevation

So the time constraints are 10 minutes for the first 2, but you have 15 minutes for the next 2 and take however long it takes for race 5 as that’s the last one. Kinda still a HIIT but long intervals and “hopefully” long rests between them. Simple GC structure based on total time over the 5 races so you need to do all 5 to be included in the top of the GC.

Hey, it might be rubbish…. or it might be a lot of fun. Lets See……

TO FINISH OFF:

Another Win for Stefan793 and another maximum 60 points as well. Another promotion might mean the end to the 10 points category win as he now also has more ballast as he enters the August championship, but he is on fire at the moment! Well done!

Karel has a cracking month to get 2nd and lrollin get to the podium again just like last month! Well done to both of you.

Special mentions to Sublac72 and laborg who finally get some well deserved ballast for the first time this month by finishing super strongly in the top 10!

It was another month where all the winners of the top 9 categories were in the top 50 so they all got bonus points. Well done to all that got promoted for August, but to those that got relegated this month, you put up a great battle but it just wasn’t meant to be, so re-group and smash out August as you are now in a great position to get top 3 and those all important bonus points!

We have 7 riders getting a promotion and just 3 getting relegated. That’s not as brutal as it will be when we get more riders after summer but happy its not too drastic.

Lets also keep an eye on A9 next month and see if we finally have a rider who does all 4 races so they get promoted up to A8! fingers crossed!

World championship blog will be done over the next few days so keep an eye out for that , but for now we are done. Thanks everyone for the continued support, thanks again to those who have helped me yet again to get this blog done, and for all of you for getting involved in the blog. Really appreciate it and love reading the comments when i log back in over the weekend!

bye for now.

didn’t feel any pressure going into this race, I’d done ok for 3 races, only me and 4world had completed 4 races in our category which meant it was impossible to get relegated and as he is stronger than me on these routes with the longer climbs in theory, it’s also impossible to get promoted! 😉

I’d compiled a list of the finish times from the earlier races and i saw a nice gap to aim for Somewhere between 1:08:81 and 1:13:27. This was quite a nice gap to aim for as it really didn’t matter where in between here i finished, i’d still get the same points. so we now have a time and an average speed of between 19.5mph and 18.3mph to go for.

first part it green so it was time to get as rapid a start as i could and then get into a nice draft pack which i did, and what a pack it was as we caught up more and more all the way to the first climb. Hung on as long as i could on the yellow bits as the draft was still saving around 30 watts and i was well inside my target, but it ramped up just past my comfort level and i ended up in a trio, with one of them being my cat rival 4worldpeace. Didn’t see any point trying to drop him , but rather hang with him and see if we could work together to set my time. I was even pulling away from him on the climb at one point so i backed off to stay together as solo was pointless for my aim. We crest the climb and he bolts off! I’m like wtf! lol Obviously my subliminal messages didn’t reach across the pond and i basically never saw him again and yep, i was left solo and in pure time trail mode now as i just did everything i could to try and keep my average speed where it needed to be. I realized on the last climb that if i just pushed a bit harder, i might actually get a faster time than the 2 riders on my list who did the 1:08s so as i got to the top with an average of 19mph, i needed this average to be over 19.6 by the end of the descent! It was touch and go, especially with the auto braking around the switch backs but just near the end i saw it click to 19.7mph and i knew I’d done it! i will deffo be racing with these target times again next week!

Surprised to see just how close i was to getting no bonus points in my category though! 2 mega performances from 2 riders who only did 3 races nearly ruined it for me, so i am so relieved i had these target times to aim for as if i hadn’t, i’d have just settled for getting home in front of the rider behind on this race who was quite some distance away and would have seen me set a slower time and thus not get the bonus points! Phew!

My Summer holidays will ruin August for me but also means i get to stay in A6 for another month as i won’t be able to compete all 4 races, thus avoiding relegation…😏

Sorry about that Neil! I saw those two riders (maybe it was just 1) pass us right before the crest and had enough juice to grab on and I thought you might go with me. I definately appreciate having you to ride with up that first climb though. Even though I didn’t have much pressure on this last race I am always focused on maximizing the points so I’m always trying to maximize my average speed and as you know the best way to do that is to take advantage of the draft when ever you can. I saw the opportunity and took it.

  2. Brian Westfall (4WorldPeace) says:

Did my usual pre-race prep by reviewing route and prior races and set my goals, average speed high 19mph with a stretch of mid 20mph. Not my best start but not terrible. I had a hard time keeping my speed up on the flats and little rollers and couldn’t stick with any of the faster riders until I settled in with a group with Sunniva, Muckers1974, VilemStrakos, DanWren until the first climb. Hit the first climb and Sunniva and DanWren dropped the 3 of us. We worked together through the first and most of the second. I managed to break away with a couple of riders that that close to the top, I think they were Loki72 and MarcusBritannicus but not sure, sorry if I missed someone but, I was really pushing to keep my speed up and stay with the group. At some point MarcusBritannicus fell back and we caught Hawkeye77. The 3 of us worked together until the last climb when Loki72 broke away and Hawkeye77 fell back. I pushed the last decent solo and couldn’t make up much ground with the 2 riders ahead, M.Zagorsk and Txingurri82. Thanks to all the riders that worked with me today. I finished at 1:06:10 and an average of 20.3mph and had a much better drafting performance than last week. Feeling good about my efforts in July and looking forward to Aug. Well maybe not in A5😝 but, it will be fun anyway.

It would be imperative to get with a fast group for the first 11 km flat bit, so my best start was called for. Did that! Poked my head off the front of the group expecting to see MatthiasHeil, but he was out of sight 50 m up. How does he do that, week after week? Then a moment of inattention and the group gapped me. Ack! Happily, wolli.d came by and we got back on. Thanks, Wolfgang. Funny how little things can make so much difference. Then some entertainment: Stu Ashton (bikeanddogtrips) using the chat to coerce his group to catch the one ahead. I realized then that we had a lead group of 27, where I was, a small gap, then a group of 28, then Stu, et. al. I think he managed to get on. The top 10 guys got away on the ramp at 5 km. Let them go; it would be the climb at 12 km that sorted the field. That climb took me 8 minutes, and the top was my best three-minute W of the year. Happy with that. At the end of it, I was with Yumile and Sublac72, with Jana.Sterbova and Grochang just ahead, and wolli.d and the Shark, Squalo_delle_Alpi, lurking dangerously not far behind. Second climb, and we almost reeled in Jana and Mads. Cool. But they started downhill before us and got a bigger gap again. With just a few km to go, Yumile must’ve found some unexpected reserves as he dropped us and bridged up to Mads. Into the finish, it was flat, so I went to TT mode with a km to go and got in ahead of Sublac72.

Pretty good month for me. Niels took it easy a couple of the races, so he’s regulated back to A2. Stefan is promoted to Elite, and rightfully so. No one is coming down from Elite, so I’ll just keep running to the bank with those A1 bonus points for a little longer.

  4. Eric H. (UncleE64) says:

I had nothing to ride for from a World Championships perspective (having missed the first 2 races of July) and thought I’d take a risk today.
I had this hair-brained idea to stick the fast guys in the front group until things started going uphill. My thinking was they wouldn’t go too hard until then, This was basically correct, since – somehow – I did manage to stay in the front group of 20ish riders for the first 20 minutes of the race. For the first 5 minutes of the race I was absolutely positive something was glitched in Rouvy though as what I was seeing on the screen was lining up with my position or draft percentage. I kept chasing people and pulling all the way through to the front when it hit me – I’d done it again – switched camera yesterday evening to “FAR” to show my friend how that worked and had forgotten to switch it back ot “ME”. Doh! Anyway – by the time the first climb came I was already gassed. Got dropped by the front group of course and then almost immediately got passed by at least 10 riders Thankfully, SLudford and SunniVa eventually picked me up and I limped along behind them as long as I could. SunniVa exploded past me on the last climb. SLudford was able to chase her down, but I had no answer. Overall a very fun first 20 minutes and what I’d call an enjoyable pain fest after that. It was good to ride with everyone again today. Hopefully can make more races in August and plan a bit better for my fitness level! Congrats to SunniVa for winning her cat – great job!

    • Brian Westfall (4WorldPeace) says:

I had the same hare brained plan but the difference was I didn’t last more than a few minutes. In fact, I’m not sure if I ever really got locked in. 😓 just kept getting passed.

  5. Paul bateman says:

That was a good route. I dropped my chain on the first red part which, although it only took a few seconds to jump off and put on, made me lose a lot of motivation.

Back in A6 next month and as much as i have enjoyed doing the early races i think i will have to go back to 6:30pm if i stand any chance of racking up some points.

The early races are well worth a blast on time trial week but every week can become time trial week if you find yourself alone on a long flat

    • Brian Westfall (4WorldPeace) says:

I know the feeling even in the late race. The only thing I have to look forward to in A5 is no bonus points and a quick demotion back to A6. But maybe I’ll get lucky and everyone in A5 will drop a change or two.lol!

      • Paul bateman says:

Yeah i can imagine that flat stretch before the end was pretty tough in the evening too if you find yourself alone.

A5 is quite a large jump in performance. Im glad its your turn next month lol. I think most the riders in that cat were beating me by about 10-15 min each race. A6 is a decent group to be in most the time though so jumping up to A5 now and then is a nice challenge

    • Klinthomie says:

Will be nice to have you back in the 6:30 slot, Paul! I welcome that idea!

  6. Simonjp says:

Cracking race! The flat start meant i had to get in the big group, which stayed together to the start of the first climb. I dropped off and combined with Klinthomie to tackle the next 4 climbs and descents. We worked together really well and were able to keep the next group back at bay. In between the last 2 climbs was that long flattish section, which I could see the chase group, which included RaTim and EddyDomino were gaining. So i decided to sit up and join up with them. The group, led by Laborg, broke up on the last climb and it was then a free for all to the line, I managed to out sprint my race buddy Klint and Berty Basset to claim 25th place. It was a very close finish, I only just beat Klint by 0.2 seconds and had to produce my biggest 5 second wattage for the year to do it!

    • Klinthomie says:

Simon, I gotta say thank you for leading me up those climbs. I was really motivated to stay with you and it was nice that we could combine for the downhill. At some point, we had to realize that we could not hold of RaTim and EddyDomino, and I think it was wise to do so. I had to save myself for the last climb (which almost broke me entirely).

Kudos to Laborg for pulling so much and going crazy. I was really hoping we could catch up to Matthias Heil together, but no dice!

      Nice sprint, btw.

      • laborg says:

yeah, great race all together! i actually felt better in the last part of the race and seeing Matthias Heil in front gave me the needed energy to push through – although, he beat me in the sprint, hats off to him!
looking forward to the next race on thursday!

  7. Karel Sousek says:

We watch the world turn upside down. Big 30 group in the first warm up section before series of climbs. They sorted field and we were about 10. Chajensen went into solo, followed by Erlend, Andrus and Stefan. We lost contact with Snowshark, but the guys waited for us in next mini climb, in order to chase leader in bigger group.

We worked together, but gap did not close any meter. I got little cramps, so could not help as i wished. Fast forward to the final section and over last horizon we again splitted. Gap was little, but finish line nearby. Very happy with top5, enjoyable race. Thank you all who joined us.

  8. Tomáš Hloušek says:

A strange month, the first 14 days I had a working holiday in the meadows and straight from the scythe and rake I went home to do the races, with the goal of doing all 4 and dropping into the A4 category. But after these races, only Eddy and I were fully participating. I don’t know how, but after three races I was ahead of him. The goal for the last race was the same as for the others: to be in a good group at the green start. After the first group broke up, I tried to catch up with the riders in front of me and I found that everything had merged into one group. I had a few minor failures, but I always managed to catch up with the group, but it cost me a lot of breath and strength. As expected, I fell off on the first hill. But I was in a good group for the entire part of the hills and straights, although as time went on I was no longer able to help the front as much. On the last hill we completely fell off, but small groups started to form. Unfortunately, I was not able to catch up with the rider in front, but Simon fell off behind me. TT to the finish line, but it was clear that the group behind me was not cooperating and it was impossible to catch up with the rider in front of me. I finished in the order roughly as I should have. However, this does not apply to the categories. Thanks to the summer and holidays, there were a lot of riders who did not do all the races. This completely ruined a nice, interesting and motivational system. According to my performance, I belong to the average A4 and instead of being relegated to “my” category, I gained a nice 10 extra points, but next month in the A2 category. I think it is the third promotion in a row and now I expect two relegations in a row. Wouldn’t there be some extra points for the one who was in the most categories?? 😂😂

  9. Manuel Lamber SHARK says:

This last race give me some good sensation respect the last, today turn right the work during the hill and also my little tactic. Is a pity that also this month I finished 4th in general A4 and another time without extra point….
Another strange thing for me is that I arrive before 3 times on 4 in front of Matthias but at the ent he arrived 3rd 😂.
Came back to the race, well start this time for me, and ride in a big group until the first hill, after the second I find finally wolli, he is more strange for me but this time the route will be better to work together, and infact this was the result. My principal target was cath and try to beat MatthiasHeil, and in every hill it was that. In the descent I work not alone but always with Wolli and our little group don’t risk nothing until the end.
I’m so happy also I finish don’t so far from my 🇨🇦 Grizzly 😉 but A4 result always too competitive… another wood medal for me e no extra points 😇.
Thanks to everyone who ride with me, and we’ll see to the next August Champ 💪👋🦈

  10. Hans says:

Good to be back to some normal Muckers Championship Racing without any strange Rouvy glitches leaving you alone on the route. But when you have this great race company it’s a bit stupid of me to do one of my race specialities on the second climb … “Getting Dropped ALONE From The Front Group in no-mans land”. Thankfully this time I was able to catch Karianne after a couple of kilometers solo and we rode the rest of the race together sharing the work 💪 Really enjoy racing you all every week – sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but it’s almost surprisingly hard and fun whatever the outcome. Great that Neil and the others do all this follow-up so the results are not just forgotten after the race is finished. Makes you wanna push harder. I don’t really care about the race categories but it seems like they give a lot of fun to many of you so never mind. Thanx for another fun race guys and enjoy the rest of the summer 👍

  11. Chuck Phillips says:

I’m on vacation at the beach, so I brought my travel trainer. the setup was less than ideal just an iMac on the window sill in the hotel room, no fans, too much sun, sand, eating and drinking all week. I couldn’t see anything on the screen, so drafting was sketchy, it turned out that it didn’t matter. i was so over heated by the end. I didn’t know I could sweat so much!!!! it’s funny I didn’t realize how much the sun, sand, salt and booze was effecting me until I recovered from the race. it took about 2 hours to recover but now I feel like my normal self. it really makes me question my choices on vacation???

    • Manuel Lamber SHARK says:

We are all crazy in this Group… 😂, Well done my Friend 💪👋🦈

    • Brian Westfall (4WorldPeace) says:

lol! Sand, salt, booze sounds like a brutal race prep! That’s dedication for sure. 😜🚴
