MUCKERS 2026 JULY CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 3.

ROUTE AND RACE DETAILS:

Oberalp Pass | Sedrun | Switzerland | 27.77 miles | 2,110 ft. elevation

ROUVY SAY: Ride over the Oberalp Pass from Andermatt to Disentis, a high alpine route with wide views, crisp air and a scenic descent into the Surselva valley. The pass road winds past lakes and peaks, offering a rewarding crossing through the heart of the Swiss Alps.

WE SAY: Long route time! Could be a few of us here on the bike for 90 mins so lets see how we all did!

We are running really late with the blog tonight due to trying to wait as long as possible for some riders to supply screen shots or evidence of there race times (even if its 2 screen shots we have to add together) due to some possible ROUVY glitches tonight.

REMEMBER! Its not up to us to go looking for your times if you have a problem. You need to contact us within an hour of the race end and let us know what’s going on. It was just we all saw “velobuch has been disqualified” pop up on our screens so i went in search of an answer. It got to 9:30pm and we’ve had nothing sent to us so unfortunatly we stick with ROUVYS result and get on with the results and blog. Even if you get re-instated the next day, once we have done the results and blog, that’s final. It’s not the be all and end all of life, it’s just a training app race series and shit happens to us all at some point or another.

But it does look like we are seeing some weird glitches so be careful out there! 😉

*Ballast added to this table

The Aim here is to get into the top 50 positions by the end of each 4 week period. If you do, you get World Championship points that are updated every month for the year.

Top 10 at the end of the Month get ballast added which is basically a percentage figure your points get deduced by and lasts for the whole of the year

We use your best 10 Months Out of 12 for the world championship.

WHATS NEXT TO COME:

Remember you are more than welcome to come and race with us on any of our races even if the championships are of no interest to you. The more the merrier!! These championships are just here as extra motivation and fun ways to train.

Sunday Hill Climb (aka the Sunday hill climb championship)

Col du Télégraphe – Galibier | France | 22.02 miles | 6,864 ft. elevation!

The Big One! Nearly 7000ft and just over 20 miles. From the Pyrenean Crown challenge so we’ve got to do it so why not as a group of like minded Muckers who will all be feeling the pain as we try to cross that finish line!

Search “Muckers Sunday” in the event search function on ROUVY to find all the scheduled climbs we have created so far. All start times included in the championship.

Tuesday Race Night (aka the w/kg training championship)

Col d’Aspin (from Arreau) | France | 7.25 miles | 2,569 ft. elevation

Challenge routes are a big elevation happy at the moment but this will be a good challenge to try and hit the 2.5w/kg target as there’s no downhills to ruin your figure!

PS. yes you guessed it, we have also thrown in a Tuesday warm up race at 18:25 where we use the strangely titled “Home to Cemetery” challenge route. is the author a vampire or ghoul?? Anyway, its 11.5 miles long and only 190ft elevation so a nice warm up before the climb.

Search “Muckers Tuesday” in the event search function on ROUVY to find all the scheduled races we have created so far at the 6 different start times. All start times included in the championship

Thursday Race Night (aka the world championship)

Alsace Wine Route | France | 22.37 miles | 1,585 ft. elevation

Race 4! The final one for July. Another long one but not as steep and a bit more staggered than Race 3. Should be a great route for the final!

Search “Muckers championship” in the event search function on ROUVY to find all the scheduled races we have created so far at the 7 different start times. All start times included in the championship

TO FINISH OFF:

Late one tonight, sorry for all the glitches but we’ve gotta move on and get ready for next week. As we usually say, race 3 sets you up for the final race as you now know what you need to do. With only 55 riders this week getting points on the board, it’s made most of the categories very interesting indeed as we head into the last race.

I’m gonna wrap it up here, so thanks to all for racing with us and for all of you who get involved in the blog. really appreciate it.

tried to get the wattbike up and over the very first little crest so i wasn’t right at the back for the first long downhill and that worked out pretty well as i was able to join a group of 3 other muckers for the draft-fest downhill. Once we hit the flatter part, we really sped along quite well and soon caught the group in front, then we settled into the run to the climb.

Got to the climb and just tried to focus on average 2.e and not letting the heart rate run away like it has been doing recently. 2,5 is just too slow for a 90kg racer on the aero bike and wheels and i was just overtaken and overtaken as i quietly went about getting up this long climb without bonking. Got to the top at 1:11 which gave me 29 mins to get down the other side to try and beat my goal of 90 mins.

flew down the hill and caught and passed Lyndon for a few extra points and got over the line in a 1:27. Not bad, but not great.

Quite a few no shows in my cat means i’m in 2nd and kinda safe as 3rd is a good few points back and can’t see then beating me by that far next week to overtake me. 4worldpeace looks set to win this months as next weeks profile isn’t for me so well done to him and good luck to everyone next week.

  2. Mike Hagen says:

Rocket start to get with the lead group for the first descent, and that worked. Big group of 19 and we stuck together on the flats before the climb. Group of nine went ahead on the climb, nine trailing, and me by my lonesome to tackle the hill. Well, Grochang was just ahead, and I had it in my mind to close the gap and ride with him, but, nope, that was not happening. Velobuch zipped by at one point; I saw the message a few minutes later that he’d been DQd for suspicious activity. Hmmm. I spent most of the climb slowly gaining on Sublac72 while watching BTK_jiri70_cz slowly gaining from behind. Wondered if the three of us would come together at the top, and that is what happened. Now on the second descent, I felt good, so I attacked the hairpins, sprinting out of every braking corner, building a lead on Sublac and Jiri. But Jiri didn’t falter; he got back on my wheel with a few km to go. Now we’re setting up for the finish sprint and it turns out that bikeanddogtrips (Stu!) is watching and chatting instructions to me. But Jiri can see the chats too. So when Stu told me to go, I did, but so did Jiri! He had a good lead. I was closing in the finish chute, but too little, too late. Fun race!

I could see on the climb segment leaderboard that EddyDomino had gotten up a minute quicker than me. But he’d been in an earlier race with less draft on the descents, so I thought he might’ve still have been slower overall. And so he was! seven seconds and one position back of me. Eddy! You need to get yourself in the main race to keep tabs on your competition, eh?

    • You’re right Mike, however it’s really difficult to race at 19h30 in France because of the heat wave, it’s nearly 30-35°C… However, as I said in a previous comment, I ride at 10:30 I ride with Tim_Hall a strong US rider and sometime with enry1963, then I can have some draft. I think I will come back at 19:30 in September. I will finish the July championship and not sure to be present for August, perhaps only the TT. I’ve already done two races in a camp site with an Elite trainer, it was difficult to find a shadow place and other users were astonished to see a fool riding on a trainer whereas the weather was fine to ride on the road…
Rendez-vous next thursday for the final July race.

  3. Brian Westfall (4WorldPeace) says:

This was an interesting route. Trying to create a game plan with so many factors at play was difficult. Which bike to choose, how to play the start, how to ride the decents, and of course the climb. My average speed goal was above 20 mph and stretch was 21 mph which would put me finishing somewhere around 1:21 to 1:23. I chose not to go with my climb bike after much debate because I would loose to much time on all the descents especially the first half of the race. I would have to burn too much energy to stay with a faster group. So, a descent start, ending up with a group of 4 including SQUALO_DELLE_ALPI, hj2010, sorry I don’t remember who else. It was a good pace but, not burning to my energy, a larger group with Muckers 1974, Stelviobound, and S.Ludford caught us when it flattened off and we road together to the climb. The group split up as expected and I use the occasional passer by for some extra wattage. Thanks S.Luford for the little extra pull. I settled in and just rode solo the rest of the climb and gritted it out with an average of with a 2.7 w/kg average and focusing on keeping the gap from the riders behind me (sunniva, vargapeter, and Hans holm moller I think). Not my best but decsent considering the length of the race. I caught and passed ale.mine at the crest and then just worked the decent with all the braking on the switchbacks as best as my legs could handle to get my speed back up. I had to really dig in through the last little rollers at the end to hold off Hans holm moller. Finished with an average speed of 20.2 mph and a time of 1:22:31.2. I held to my strategy and had nothing left at the end so I am happy with the outcome.

    • Manuel Lamber SHARK says:

Yes, great group of 4 for the first descent, but we must push more if we don’t want cath of group behind of us… no many help I find and our advantage finish after a bit…
We’ll see for the next 💪👋🦈

  4. Duckman2 says:

Nice little group for the climb and downhill. really close finish, but earlier ride with sprint took a bit of leg out of my finish. Thank you
laborg, simonjp, MNHROUVY, and ValRdz for a good close ride and finish. Personally I’d like to know what the heck laborg was riding on that downhill, just impossible to catch him with four riders going full tilt. Well done sir.

    • Manuel Lamber SHARK says:

I’m happy for you, too performance my friend, I always read your name near me in my list but never cath you this time 💪

    • laborg says:

ha, just riding 89kg and the large chainring. both didnt help in the ascent though…

and i was quite happily surprised about the finish, because i usually get snubbed in a sprint.

  5. Karel Sousek says:

Tooth extraction earlier today. I first went for uncategorized run to check how the body will respond. I could move, nothing hurt much, lets join Muckers. Long descent section, before we reached 600 m climb. I was feeling quite competitive, yet i could not follow koniekupe and bretsos. We made duo with David, with 150m lead to Stefan.

When we reached tunnel after summit, Stefan was suddenly with us. I thought we might catch bretsos in another long downhill, but he was able push solid wkg in descent too, while i was lucky for 200w at 110rpm. Little cramps at the end as it is another tropic day, so both guys were stronger in sprint. Thank you all who joined us.

Race in double face for my motivation, I work so well for all the route, in the first descent I work with 4worldPace, hj2010 and also BTK_jiri70_cz if i remember well. Nice group but nobody help me to push more in all the descent and infact the other group cath us near the end or that… when start the long hill, i want to hold a good pace for try to improve in general A4, was a pity that I can’t hold the wheels of Enry1963 but he is more stronger of me, but I see my friends in front Chris and Niels, I work so hard to cath they, and after when I see MatthiasHeil I rode with more power.
I 🎯 my target to overtake him and I take over 300 mt, when start the last long descent I start to pull, and I see a group of 3 to work to take me, Dennis, Chris and Matthias.
At the last 1, 1.5 km to the end, my advantage of 500 mt start to reduce, I ride hard, but nothing to do.
At the end only Dennis can overtake me on the finish line, but from a good performance start my angry… all work for nothing…. I hold my 4th position in A4 but also for this month nothing to do…
See you to the next 👋💪🦈

Good to be back racing with you all even though everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong in this race.
First off I had a 12 minute late start due to massive connectivity issues with virtual gearing. Tried to rejoin the race 3-4 times, restart the apple tv twice and also reboot the Wi-Fi to the annoyance of the rest of the family before I finally tried to disable the virtual shifting and it suddenly worked. Started as # 50 with more than 5 km up to #49 and 11 km up to #48 🥵
Ended as #35 after a solid and very very warm and long TT – sorry to everyone I passed that I didn’t give a thumbs up but my mobile was not connected 🤗
Finally, to make matters even worse, when I crossed the finish line and was show my result Rouvy then didn’t save my race in the next step, so I have to do it again if I want to finish the challenge … but thanx to Neil for reinstating me in the results even if it is a bit lower than I would have hoped for on a route like this, but it is what it is – glad to hear that I was visible to you Brian as I was beginning to feel like an invisible ghost rider doing my own lonely race – thanx for another race guys 🚵🏼‍♂️👋

I was wondering what had happened, when I saw the results afterwards. Godt kæmpet, Hans.

      • Hans says:

Thanx Christian – so much for trying to improve the semi-compact on the two big descents 🫣 enjoy the vacation 👋

  8. Klinthomie says:

Dear virtual friends, I’ve committed a sin. The sin of getting lazy and expectant. I’ve become used to getting a rocket start and being in the front group and yesterday I got the harsh reminder, that I actually have to fight to be in the front group and not expect is a given. My mistake.

I was in the second group on the descent with Wolli.D, VeloBuch and UncleE. Great company! I tried to catapult us to the front group where I could see Mike hanging at the back, but alas all that work and it did nothing, haha.

The big climb came up and as expected, Wolli and VeloBuch dropped me. I aimed for Niels in the front group as my target and slowly paced myself up. I was tired, as I have been running and biking quite hard this week without restitution, but I kept on. To my luck, good friend Manuel aka Sharky came up from behind and I was able to latch on. The rest of the climb was basically rubber banding with Sharky untill we caught Matthias Heil. Sharky took off and me and Matthias got to enjoy the rest of this *dreadful* stage together. Before the top, Dennis (King Magic) caught us and left us on the descent. I tried to sprint between the breaks for us to catch Dennis, and I was about to give up 100 times, but somehow … we caught him? And then Dennis pushed and we somehow caught Manuel who was originally at least 5-600 meters in front of us. The sprint came up and I was at my limit. I mistimed everything and ended up doing an amazing lead out for the other guys to catch Sharky – sorry buddy! I lost the sprint and at least 4 spots, but who cares? I am just very happy to be in the company of all these strong riders. Haven’t ridden with Matthias since May, so yesterday felt like progress.

Tough stage, and A5 is def. more competitive than I thought. But I am also not looking forward to A4 anytime soon, as that category looks like full on mayhem.

    • Klinthomie says:

Only 1 measly point behind Jon (Duckman2) in A5, competing for the #2 spot, but I don’t know if I can make the main race on thursday – but it is something to race for! Thanks for organizing and all the hard work, Neil!

      • Neil Rushby says:

i can’t take all the credit Mucker. I need to send a shout out to Kyle for keeping this all running in the background and Ste Ludford who jumped on and did the spread sheets for us yet again so i could get the blog done sooner! I could not do this on my own.

  9. Mr Steven Ludford says:

Nice to be back after a month holiday plus a rest week. Good race tonight and I was always in good company, nice group of 4 on the first descent catching the next group to get nice draft to the climb in a group of 8. Everyone settled into their individual pacing plan, I was passed by a couple of lighter riders but had my focus on a very slow gradual gain on UncleE64 as I hoped we could join up for the descent, I had the feeling he was cheering me on up the climb for the same objective. We stormed the descent, in fact I struggled to get past him to help for a long section. I intended to ride to the line behind my comrade but I wanted to break 1hr20min and the temptation to beat it towards the end took priority so I apologise to UncleE64, I think I owe you for 2 recent assists now.

  10. I am really happy with my effort, I planned a combination of seated and standing climbing. It doesn’t create a smooth output but it seems to work for me. 45 minutes on the climb was better than I could have hoped for. My goal was to get to the top before Sunniva since we were tied going into this one. That didn’t happen but I am happy with my effort. I was isolated on the second decent, it was too steep to peddle without spinning out so I ended up coasting most of the time which seemed to take forever, like a slow motion race. I’ll be on vacation next week so I’ll be on the backup trainer. I was really looking forward to rollers on my new trainer, but that will need to wait. The backup trainer is all about smooth power, bring it on!!!
