Continental Introduces Two New Tubeless Variants to the GP5000 Tire Lineup
Continental has unveiled two new versions of its Grand Prix 5000 road tire range. The GP5000 TT TR is a time-trial-specific tire, while the GP5000 AS TR is an all-season variant that promises increased wet grip and puncture protection. The new tires, along with the existing GP5000 S TR, create a three-pronged range, offering greater specificity to the brand’s best road bike tires. Both the new tires are tubeless-ready and hookless compatible. The GP5000 TT TR is lighter and faster, and the GP5000 AS TR is stronger, with better wet-weather grip, more puncture protection, and better durability than any other GP5000 tire made. The GP5000 TT TR and GP5000 AS TR are priced at £79.99 Wiggle UK and (GP5000 AS TR not yet pricesed) per tire, respectively, and are available for purchase immediately.
How do the GP5000 compare to the GP4000?
The GP5000 is the successor to the GP4000, and Continental claims that it offers several improvements over its predecessor. The GP5000 features a 12% reduction in rolling resistance, 20% better puncture protection, and 10g less weight than the GP4000. Additionally, the GP5000 is said to offer better grip, comfort, and durability than the GP4000. Overall, the GP5000 is considered a high-performance tire that is designed for racing and training, while the GP4000 is still a great tire, but it is a bit older and not as advanced as the GP5000.
What Tires do you recommend?
I have been using GP4000 tires for years and have found them to be superb. Recently, I switched to the GP5000 and I am enjoying them as well. However, I am always curious to hear about other tire options. What tires do you recommend for road cycling? Please share your experiences and recommendations in the comments!
