MUCKERS 2026 OCTOBER CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 1.

ROUTE AND RACE DETAILS:

Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest | Montana | 16.9 miles | 735 ft. elevation

ROUVY SAY: Ride east-northeast from Highland Road, link the early bends, then sweep southeast past the Toll Mountain area. Continue east toward State Hwy 41, follow the open road across the final junction, and finish at the eastern endpoint of the route.

WE SAY: TT time! Remember we do a no-draft TT race at the start of every month. I saw someone ask/report this on the chat of the main race so please remember how we kick the month off. Also we have DSQ’d a lot of new riders this week due to lack of heart rate data. Please make sure you supply this so we include you in the following tables. It’s not something we use as a sneaky way to disqualify you guys, it’s just a way to try and stop the dodgy ones turning up and also, a quick way to verify you. Once you are verified, if you have a heart rate sensor failure, its all good, you won’t get an instant disqualification as we know “shit happens” but we do expect you to get the hr back up and transmitting in a few weeks time.

So the TT! Profile looks downhill… simple right? but there’s a pesky climb thrown into the mix which really got everyone wondering about bike choices! Did you go with the right set up for your riding style?? lets see….

TO FINISH OFF:

October is here already! And we have a nice jump in numbers this week already. Been a while waiting for this first week to have over 100 riders in the GC so you can feel it’s now gonna be a tough 3 month run in!

For anyone new here, we are really glad you came and raced with us and hope you enjoyed the challenge of the TT. now it’s all about trying to get into the top 50 by the end of the month so you get added to the world championship table. All we ask is you stick to the 3 simple rules and you will be included. You can find all the info you need on the different blogs on our website.

Now it’s over to you lot. The comments section is your chance to let us know how this race went from your perspective! The comments after the TT race are usually the busiest as we all fight to make sense of what we did and if it was right or not lol. ….

Thank you all for racing with us, thank you to Ste for the results, thanks Kyle for keeping the site running and lastly, thank you for reading the blog to the very end. Appreciate it.

Went with a “fun” set up and used the TT bike. Knew i would suffer up the climb, but, the prospect of a rapid downhill after it and how i much prefer to chase down rather than try and hold off, well, it was the only way to go for me.

Rocket start up the climb start and then recover down to the main climb. I “will” climb this thing at 3.0! I WILL!!! lol. I started at the bottom in around 28th place, then got passed by 16 riders , but, most were on normal bikes so i will catch these up on the downhill… I WILL!! I HOPE!!!

44th place as i crest and i just push a decent effort just to get up to speed then it was fun time! catching the first few riders quite quickly but i can see some very serious competition down the road! The first is 4worldpeace and as i catch him, i see he’s on the normal bike, relief as i know it will take a major effort for him to stay with me now. The kickers we hit are right up my street and i can blast over them whilst keeping my momentum up. Next i’m catching sunniva, but just not fast enough, as we both catch others up, the gap just isn’t closing fast enough.

1 last kicker before the end is my only shot. But it’s longer than i expected and i put all i have left just to get over the crest, so as she starts to pull away again as she hits the green before me, i have no answer… She later thanked me in the chat for “letting” her win… i wish i was that gentleman she presumed i was…. 😏

But crossed the line in 33rd and also a lot faster than i thought i was going to be. Really enjoyed this and very happy with my performance tonight. Looking at the A7 table its crazy how many are in it, but experience tells me not all these riders will end up doing all 4 races so 3rd place after race 1 is a solid start.

Yah, I had no hope of holding you off with that much green and using my road bike Neil!🥲 And I thought for sure you would catch sunniva but, she was moving!! Looking at the stats I was 8th in A5, would have been 5th in A6, and 4th in A7. Would have had to go to A8 to be top 3 lol! Still tons of fun.

when the downhill profile increased to its max on the green, i think thats when i could really catch her, but when it leveled off or was just slightly downhill, she was much stronger. So it was cat and mouse and i also didn’t want to burn too many matches as i was convinced that the last “hill” would need all my remaining power. But there is something really motivating when catching like that, rather than trying not to get caught!

The Cats after the first race are always very interesting, but you do have to take them with a pinch of salt as this route will suit some more than others. If it’d have all been a bit more uphill, i’d have been more nearer 10th than 3rd, so this is why i say push in every race then wait till the end of race 3 and see where you are and what you need to do! But i love hearing that you guys are finding it fun!

This was my first ride since Sunday do to a business trip (missed the the Tue race😢). I’m not used to having 3 days off so we’ll see. Chose my normal road bike thinking I needed the help up the climb but, in hindsight I think the TT might have been a better choice. Started hard and felt good on the way down hill and had a descent climb but, not good enough to hold off sunniva as she just cruised by me and up over the crest. That’s when the bike choice really showed up, sunniva just kept widening the gap and Muckers1974 caught me quite easily (which I knew he would) but I didn’t expect sunniva to keep pulling farther ahead like that. I pushed as hard as I could on the descent but, it felt like there was a serious headwind (bike choice). I managed not to get passed and passed 3 riders on the descent and was catching elywoody but, could get up over that last kicker well enough. Finished the race in 36th place and just cracked the top 50 at 49th all in. Not my best but, managed to squeak by one of my A5 competitors in a prior race by 1 second by pushing hard through the line. Every second counts right! 😅

    • Neil Rushby says:

every second truly counts Mucker! great effort passing others on the downhill on the normal bike as well. If it was only TT bikes that passed you, then you’ve gotta be at least content you did what you could, or even better than you thought on the bike you were on. But yes, Sunniva was the most stubborn carrot i’ve chased in a long time, and i’ve not had the legs to chase you guys for a while so it was a welcome change. Next week will be very interesting to see where we all are on a “normal” route

      • Sunniva says:

Thanks for the kind words guys, it was a really fun race. I think more people might start joining our races on upcoming Thursdays and it will be more difficult to stay in the top 50. But we will do our jest 🙂

I haven’t had my usual stuff the past month or so, and I know why. Little bit of an injury in April, but mostly I haven’t been on the bike as much the last couple of months. I’m not as fit. It happens. I’m not unique. But that’s okay! Still having fun. Choose the TT frame for today. Started well, if a bit easy, to save something for the climb. I wanted to hammer the climb, and I did, it was my best 10 minutes W of the day. My thinking was to get up the hill a little faster, and not spend as much time going slow. Managed to claw RaTim in by the top, though he accelerated faster onto the downhill. Caught him back again, and eased ahead. He was closing the gap at the end, but I held him off. It was a good battle. I’d seen Wouter (Goenen) complaining that this was a TT race, no draft, and he was on the wrong bike! He’d zipped by me on the hill, but I’d expected to catch him on the descent. I did, but it was a near thing.

Looking at the October standings, my gosh. This is where all those A1 bonus points are going to come back and bite me. ‘Cause they came with ballast, and now that ballast is getting heavy. It’s going to be a *very* interesting last three months, I’m thinking.

    • Neil Rushby says:

yep, i think this will be one of the most interesting ends to a Muckers championship! especially with the category bonus points thrown into the mix as well! Really impressive year so far Mucker, Keep it up!!

Opted for the TT set up – although it made the “climb” feel incredibly slow it seemed to be the quickest choice today. I spent the race trying to catch Matthias Heil, but he proved too strong.

  5. Manuel Lamber SHARK says:

Alright, I’m starting to like these TTs. My target was Wolli—who’s usually stronger than me—but to my surprise, I ended up finishing exactly 1 second faster, placing in the top 19 and proudly winning the 4:30 PM session.
I was really focused on uphill speed, cadence, and gear selection based on the gradient shown on the screen… I hardly recognize myself! 😂
Great work on the TT setup for this comeback race in the A4 category—currently sitting in 3rd place. But have you seen the endless list of Super Riders this month? It’s going to be a fierce battle. See you next week.
Shout-out to the legendary Ludwig for dropping by—love you, my friend! 🫶🏻💪🦈

    • Neil Rushby says:

excellent effort and a special well done for a muckers worldwide win in your race! I think focusing on making that climb as short as possible was the key here and you executed it very well.

    Recon race
Placeholder time trial as i might miss tomorrow main time slot. Took me initial descent section to switch from running both mentally and physically, so i entered climb on 7th position, but moved to the lead over there, with big gear and cadence ~55. Long downhill section where i spinned out few times with cadence ~115. Interesting time trial i liked it, thank you all who joined us.

    Main race
With coffee race under my belt i joined Muckers time trial for the second time, after yesterday placeholder. How much can we improve? Conservative start again and moving into top10 in the climb. Stefan passed me in the descent as raw watts is what matter here the most and light riders struggle here. Improved by ~40 sec, good result. Thank you all who joined us!

    • Neil Rushby says:

i watched you on the Recon and realized that the climb was key, as was the TT bike. Well done on the improvement in the main race, this is the month you really need to eat into BareRemi’s lead so you can see what you need to do for the last 2 months of the year. good luck!

  7. Bart Cuppen says:

I wasn’t sure how to pace this one, so I choose to go all out on the climb and see from there on. So on the climb I could distance some of my usual rivals, but on the downhill I was completely empty and I saw a few were closing in, but I could manage a moderate pace, and was only being passed by Michael.
I was dead at the finish but happy with the end result 😀

    • Neil Rushby says:

Superb result Mucker! The effort on the climb was the key on this route and you smashed that! you look set for some good points this month if you keep this up!

I didn’t have my weekly strength training session yesterday, so I had the chance to really push myself without blaming a weaker performance on legs tired from a workout 😉. I chose my TT bike, figuring I’d have to tough out the climb but that the descent would be easier. And it was, the bike really flew on the way down. A few times I felt like I was running out of gears and had to stop pedaling to balance the resistance. I also had a weird glitch where my avatar stopped pedaling during the long climb and just sat there as if coasting downhill 🤣 luckily, he got back to work after a bit.
I knew I’d be a perfect carrot for Neil to chase, and I was worried he might catch me, as he was closing the gap very quickly on the second descent. The final little rise was an all-in effort. I was first but to start the descent, I had to stand up on the pedals because my legs just couldn’t spin faster anymore. I managed to pull it off, though I wasn’t entirely sure if Neil was just as exhausted as I was or if he simply let me pass 🙂. Thanks for a great race, see you next time!

  9. Michael Michelius says:

Mostly downhill, so the route should suite me. But there was this one proper climb. I knew I had to push the pace there and that it’d be a tough section. In the end, it wasn’t just the climb that was a challenge—the whole course was brutal! Honestly, I barely noticed who I was overtaking or who passed me. Most of the time, I was just staring at my numbers, trying to hold my max pace.

At some point, it became clear: a top 10 finish was actually on the cards! Wow, that definitely fired up a few extra coals. Towards the end, I saw “Barttt” pushing hard. OMG, position 9 had to be defended, so I went completely flat out. It hurt like hell, but it worked! Cracking race, absolute blast!

…but from now on, I need to ride tactically; I don’t want any extra handicap ballast! 😂🚀

    See you! Cheers, Mick
